Menu start will not open - Windows 8

I can't open the start menu by clicking with the mouse or the keyboard shortcut. It was fine until yesterday and there has been no update. Since then, I ran a clean reboot and that did not work.

Also the Microsoft edge icon is not visible on my taskbar. There is a gap on the bar where it should be and if you click on the gap opening Microsoft edge but the icon we is not visible.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I've had my laptop 2 months only.

(a) press the Windows key + X, click prompt (Admin).

(b) type the following commands. Press enter after each command

  • DISM.exe / Online/Cleanup-image /Scanhealth
  • DISM.exe / Online/Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

(c) close the command prompt.

  • All icons are empty, menu start does not open.

    Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit

    All my icons have been wasted, for example the shortcut arrows resembled recycle bins. I was advised to use a Reconstructor IconCache.db (which deletes the file so it can be recreated at startup). However, it seems as IconCache.db don't will not recreate. I tried to make a blank IconCache.db file and even use another from an installation of Windows Vista, but the problem persisted.
    I tried various .reg files and fact ' sfc/scannow ' and the problem persists.
    Cannot find the IconCache.db file in % userprofile%\AppData\Local, despite the fact that all hidden files are displayed. The problem persists in safe mode, as well as in other accounts/user profiles.
    Thank you

    I have no problem at the opening of the shortcuts, they open fine.

    However, after 2 days, I managed to come up with my own difficulty.
    * Requires *: Windows 7 installation disc, 7-zip
    * Place your windows installation disc into your CD drive.
    * Open from my computer
    * Go in the * sources folder
    * Using 7 - Zip, right click on * install.wim* and open
    Archives.
    * Either the 3 folder (if the Home Premium). If you don't, go ahead
    * In 7 - Zip, click on the users folder, then Administrator > AppData > Local
    * Extract IconCache.db in the folder **%userprofile%\AppData\Local\** to your PC
    * If you don't see any effect yet, or kill explorer.exe and restart, log and turn off or restart the PC.

  • Unable to upgrade to Windows 8.1, Windows store does not and will not install Windows Update.

    Original title: hard to upgrade to 8.1 - My App store Windows will not open, Windows updates Pc settings does not.

    Everything on my laptop is saying that it is "not responding" - opening of the photos, for example. My apps are no longer compatible - for example my e-mail address is not updated. I think it's all related to not updated to 8.1 - having a knock on effect to all the other bits on the laptop.

    The problem is won't let me upgrade. I understand that it is a slow process, but it won't let me even go up to the store to upgrade. What can I do?

    Really sad about that I just bought my laptop 3 months ago a result already loads of problems with it. (ACER LAPTOP WINDOWS 8)

    I had the same problem and finally came up with this fix. I hope it works for everyone who suffered from this annoying problem. Go to control panel, system, and security, the Action Center. In the center of the Action, open the settings Windows Smartscreen. Do not do anything (turn off Smartscreen Windows) check.

  • After installation of the parental control my Start Menu will not open

    I have recently installed Windows live family safety on my computer. After I've set up and he began to monitor user accounts, I found that the start menu will not open and when you navigate in Explorer, records that contain a large amount of files I can't navigate to files that lie near the bottom, as it keeps jumping to the top of the page.

    It is without doubt parental control that is causing the problem as the uninstall it sorts the problem. I ran SFC/scannow, a cmd in normall, and safe mode prompt and it doesn't find any errors

    . I had this same problem when I got the laptop in November and a successful to fall on a difficulty at the time (to install the resource from Dell that CD somehow fixed?), but now that either doesn't work or it was a coincidence that the problem has been resolved at the same time, it seemed however to solve the problem on some laptops that I worked at the time.

    I had to reset the laptop back to factory settings (ironically due to a system error that prevented the family of work safety!) I also tried a replair nothing works facility. When I installed Essentials I selected only parental controls must be installed.

    I am now at my wits end, I do not understand how a piece of Windows software is make a significantly Windows operating system!

    The installer I used was version 15.4.3555.308, is there a more up-to-date this solve the problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
