Messages are not send to non-Apple users, is no longer syncing with iPhone

I can't use Messages to send messages to non-Apple users ("your message cannot be sent.'), or it syncs with my iPhone. I have all the settings in place, it has just stopped working.

Hey Tux Kapono,

I understand that you have updated to macOS Sierra, and now you can not send SMS messages. I know it's nice to be able to have continuity in your messages on devices, so I'm happy to help you.

There are a few settings that should be checked to make sure that everything is correctly configured for this feature. This article has more information on the subject:

Use continuity to connect to your Mac, iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and Apple Watch - Apple Support

Set up SMS and MMS messaging

Use this feature with any Mac, iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch that satisfies the requirements of continuity system. Make sure that your devices are configured as follows:

  • Each device is connected to iCloud with the same Apple ID.
  • On iPhone, go to settings > Messages > Send and receive. Make sure the Apple ID at the top of the screen is the same Apple ID you use for iMessage on other devices. Add a check to your address, phone number, so that you can be reached by both iMessage. Do the same on your iPad or iPod touch.
  • On iPhone, go to settings > Messages > transfer, text messages, then choose which devices to send and receive text messages from the iPhone. A verification code and then on each device. Enter this code on your iPhone.
  • On Mac, open Messages, and then choose message > Preferences. Click accounts, and then select your account from iMessage. Make sure the Apple ID shown here is the same Apple ID you use on other devices. Add a control to your phone number and email address.

Use the SMS and MMS messaging

To use this feature, simply start conversations as usual in the Messages application on any of your devices. Alternatively, you can start a conversation by clicking a phone number in Safari, Contacts, calendar, or other applications detecting phone numbers. All your incoming and outgoing messages on all your devices.

  • iTunes App updates are no longer sync with iPhone

I'm in iOS 9.2 on my iPhone and iTunes 12.3.2.35 64-bit on Windows 10 Pro.  It was that when I updated my apps on the iPhone and then sync the phone with iTunes, applications would be update automatically in iTunes and then appears in the Recycle Bin, ready to remove older versions of applications.  In this case is no longer, so now I have to update the applications on the iPhone and iTunes separately if I want to update Apps in both.  What is the purpose of this?  Why double our efforts?  I tried to update Apps in iTunes first and then running synchronization.  Applications updates appear then to be transferred to the iPhone while sync ("transfer Apps... 1 of 4... [Application name] "), but then when I finished the sync and see the updated section of the applications in the App Store on the iPhone, they always appear not updated, with a red circle on the App Store icon indicating the number of applications that need to be updated, and the word"Update"still alongside the Apps in question in the updated App Store section.  What gives?

In addition, in iTunes, in the [my iPhone] / Summary / Apps section, I used to see all of my Apps in the left column, but see only 20 of them.  All 100 + Apps are still displayed on the right-hand side of the screen, which reflects the layout of my iPhone windows, but I discovered that, in order to restore all applications in the left column, I had to go to my account name in iTunes at the top of iTunes then click on purchase and then re-download applications.  Why on Earth?  They who don't take up much room on my SSD and they are already on the iPhone, so there is no saving space on the iPhone by showing only not all applications in the left column, so what gives?  What's the point?

Please return to the process where when I sync my iPhone my Apps are updated automatically in iTunes.  Why do you do the doubly difficult process?  And, what's now the sync at all, if I don't have photos or new playlists or something like that on my machine I want to synchronize with the iPhone?  There is no synchronization, then, and so unless I have no particular reason to synchronize then I don't be backup versions of the database of the iPhone on my machine on a regular basis!  Apple, you get an Apple rotten to me!  I thought you were all make tech easier to use, more confused!

A feature introduced with iOS 9 called thinning or slicing app app allows each device to download just the code and resources required by this device, resulting in smaller downloads and a better use of the storage on the device. Therefore the device is no longer the universal version of the application that can be installed on any device to transfer applications is no longer supported. I hope that Apple will bring some changes to how it works, but in the meantime, you can download past purchases from iTunes or activate the automatic shopping app downloads to ensure that iTunes has always the apps you want on your device. As long as you make sure that all of the apps are present and updates in iTunes before you attempt a restore there should be no loss of data. I cannot confirm, but it seems a way to recent update all data are restored and apps that are not in the library are waiting to download from the iTunes Store over Wi - Fi, in a similar way to the restoration of the iCloud way works.

  • iPhone app Messages incorrectly reports that the messages are not delivered

I send text messages with the Messages app on my iPhone.  I've never had a problem until recently.

Recently, all of my text messages are marked by a red error message "not delivered".  But the beneficiary is in fact receive these messages.

I want a solution to this problem (if you have one).

    Here are some additional details:

    * I recently made two changes to my iPhone 6, and I wonder if they are related to my problem:

    1. go to iOS 9.3.5

    2 change my cell number

    * I have T-mobile and I "call wifi" enabled.  Usually, I connect using "wifi-calling."

    Hi adaviding,

Looks like you are having some incorrect Messages notifications appear on your sent messages. Not too sure if recent changes have something to do with it, but I would check your message settings to check everything is in order, it. You can also take a look at the link below. Even if your messages are sent, you can always follow the steps then the message "not delivered" can be resolved. You can also try a simple reboot of your device.

Restart your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch

  • Why new messages are not "BOLD"? SOLVED, caused by the creation of Windows fonts which had not separated "BOLD" and not "BOLD" entered

bold text I just installed Thunderbird 24.6 on a new system running under Windows 7 64-bit. I can read and send messages, but in the component main, new messages are not "BOLD", and e-mail accounts that have new messages are not fat, either. On another Windows 7 x 64 system I don't have this problem. The add-on installed only is lightning on the new system and I started Thunderbird in safe mode, but that has not solved the problem. There is still the/unread column and it correctly displays a pip by unread emails, but I want the effect "BOLD" to return. How can I fix this?

Problem solved. I was playing with the Windows font setting and chose a policy that did not separate entries "BOLD" and not "BOLD" (Segoe UI Semibold)

and my messages are not sent. I have a total of 9 messages that have been blocked.

Do I need to have a pop3 address or can you tell me what is happing.

You must have an account set up under Tools | Accounts | Mail to send from Windows Mail.  If you click on a link, it will not lead you to a webmail interface, but called instead a mail client, such as WinMail.  Around that, the only way is to copy the email address and paste it into a new message you have composed of webmail.

  • Messages can not send files

I tried power off to solve a problem with the Messages/iChat for 6 months now and I hope the Apple community might have a solution. We have an office with a mixture of Mac under OS X (based on capabilities) 10.6.8 (off 10), 10.10.5 (2 for those who hate the model) and 10.11.4 (2). We use Hello messages to send text messages, video chat and send small files (usually images) internally around the office. About 6 months ago Messages/iChat lost the ability to send files. Everything works fine (except General bugs of windows mobile / endangered and buddies on the machines of Yosemite/model). On the senders end you get no notification that the transfer has failed, or that you get a small 'I' icon in the window of conversations that draw attention to the failure. The same thing in the 'File transfer' window, sometimes the file will be marked as 'sent', or 'fail', in both cases, the receiver sees the transfer as it is 'impossible' or it crashes with a progress bar that changes to 'fail' if interact you with the download arrow or double-click on the file icon.

Various forums to suggest solutions, that everything I tried:

    • Quit and restart Messages.
    • Restart the computer.
    • Deleting of plist.
    • Make sure UPnP is enabled on the router.
    • Make sure UPnP is not enabled on the router (learned to love these weird problems, everyone has a different idea)!
    • Ensure ports 443 (Messages), 5190 (UDP for Messages), 5297, 5298 (UDP Hello) and 5298 (TCP Hello) are all open.
    • Compress images.
    • Force quit "matches" in the activity monitor.
    • Ensuring that no one is Little Snitch active.
    • Ensuring that there is no firewall on.
    • Ensuring that user names are not too long (there was a suggestion Hello has an internal deadline that could result in names are identical coupe).
    • Make sure that OS X is updated (this persisted for several updates now).

There is a guy named Ralph Johns (UK) on Apple's Support forums, which has been troubleshooting this kind of problem with iChat/Messages with various posters since at least 2011. Seems to know his stuff, but has not been able to find a solution for everyone. Posters have tried swapping routers, used wireless instead of ethernet (or vice versa) and even two bad guidance computers connected together via a simple switch, so I am not convinced that there is a network problem.

    Anyone have any ideas?

    Hello

I've done it since 2004 in fact.

    Re: -.

    • Ensure ports 443 (Messages), 5190 (UDP for Messages), 5297, 5298 (UDP Hello) and 5298 (TCP Hello) are all open.

IMessages Login using port 443 (made the AIM Login today and Yahoo if you have configured the account)

Swaps the GOAL to use port 5190 (UDP when this file transfers).

The other three ports lists are listed as being necessary by Hello but use Little Snitch myself I was never able to prove that a similar thing on behalf of the GOAL and Exchange port during the basic move IM chat to those containing photos of cats.

    Re: -.

Ensuring that no one is Little Snitch active.

Little Snitch will block (if you tell) the processes that you cannot associate with Messages as such.

It's pop up you should see if you transfer files with the iMessages account. (Note the server and port).

Why they have put in place a different process instead of use the same AIM, Jabber and Hello use.  It has a slightly different name.

I tried to send pictures on PURPOSE to my MacBook Pro that uses iChat 5.0.3

I have also tried to send using Hello from iMac MacBook Pro and cannot operate.

However the Hello from the MacBook Pro to the iMac strangely works.

The version of iChat says that the File Transfer window expected FRO me (in the iMac) to meet start sending in trying to use AIM.

However, the Chat window in iChat 5.x.x watch separately a message from AIM servers saying that the AIM Proxy did not work and try again and it make no changes to the file transfer window.

2nd attempt to use iChat 5.x.x Hello also failed.

It seems to be no reason why it fails.

    Re: -.

Ensuring that user names are not too long (there was a suggestion Hello has an internal deadline that could result in names are identical coupe).

Hello items in the sidebar of finders tend to take the name of system preferences > sharing

The ID Hello buddy would then map My user on the name of the computer remote computer@the

Possibly the naming conventions have changed over time, but I don't normally have questions (the MacBook Pro doesn't seem like spaces or apostrophes when I named it wherever the iMac running OS version much later when appointed allows them).

However as I had them connected should not be the issue.

Which can be a problem is to name them all Macintosh or the Admin according to the naming process, that you can use and if a Diskimage is used to make them all have the same applications and settings.

UPnP occurred as iChat 3 and 4 used so several ports you couldn't open them all in Port Forwarding set ups.

Video and Audio conversations only used 22 ports

    GOAL was three

  • my iPhone messages are not related to my MBP

My MBP does not check the code to send and receive my iPhone SMS

    Hello rose_bud_2012,

I understand you are trying to use the continuity between your Mac and your iPhone so that you can send SMS and MMS messages from your computer, but aren't being asked to enter the code during the installation. Fortunately, we have a number of measures that can help to ensure that everything is as it should before the implementation, but also to ensure that everything goes as planned during the installation.

  • My messages are not sent.

I tried to message from a friend that is long distance, he lives in Ireland while I live in the United States. For some reason whenever we try to the other message, he would say "not delivered". I have the iPhone 6 and it has an iPhone 5, both we have also iMessages on and SMS off the coast. How can I fix?

If you can't send or receive messages on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch

Know what to do if you see an alert when you send a message or if you are unable to send or receive messages.

    First try these steps

    1. Make sure that your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch is updated to the latest version of iOS.
    2. If you have an iPhone or an iPad (Wi - Fi + cell), look for an update to the carrier settings.
    3. Check your network connection. To send a message as iMessage or MMS, you need to a cellular data or Wi-Ficonnection. To send an SMS message, you must have a cellular network connection. If you Call Wi - Fi enabled, you can send SMS messages via Wi - Fi. Contact your operator for more information.
    4. Check with your carrier to see if the type of message you're trying to send, such as MMS or SMS, is supported.
    5. If you try to send messages group MMS on an iPhone, activate the MMS messaging. If you do not see an option to enable MMS messaging or group on your iPhone, contact your operator.
    6. Make sure that you have entered the right phone number or e-mail address of the recipient.

If you still need help, find your question below to see what to do next.

If you see an alert that says waiting for activation

If you try to send a message and you will see with an alert saying no delivered, follow these steps:

    1. Press on , then press Retry.
    2. If you can not yet send the message, press on , then press send as a text Message. Messaging rates may apply. Contact your operator for more information.

If contacts see your e-mail instead of your phone number when you send messages

Your iMessage settings can be on receive iMessages and start conversations of your Apple ID instead of your phone number. Check your settings to see if your phone number is set to send and receive messages:

    1. Go to settings > Messages.
    2. Tap, send and receive.
    3. Make sure that your phone number is listed and selected under you can be reached by iMessage to and start new Conversations for.

If you don't see your telephone number listed, you can add it. Follow these steps:

    1. On all your devices, go to settings > Messages > Send and receive.
    2. Enter your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
    3. On your iPhone, go to settings > Messages > Send and receive.

    7. Press on use your Apple ID for iMessage, then sign in with your Apple ID.

If you can't send or receive messages on your iPad or iPod touch

You can also Configure text Message Forwarding , so you can send and receive MMS and SMS messages on all your Apple devices.

If you have problems with a group message

You could meet a group conversation and receive your own message. Or you could get a new phone number and see your old listed as a recipient in an existing group conversation. If you have problems with a group message, you may need to delete the conversation and start a new. Follow these steps:

    1. Open your Messages and find the conversation you want to delete.
    2. Swipe over the conversation, and then press DELETE.

  • SMS messages will not send watch with active iMessage

So for three months, I had a problem where my Apple Watch will not send a SMS (iPhone users messages) messages when iMessage is enabled on my iPhone 6.

Has anyone else encountered this problem? I had my watch replaced by Apple and still encountered the problem. My only work around is to disable iMessage in settings, but I'm not happy with this.

I have paired and unpaired my Apple Watch repeatedly. I have even associated with a 6s iPhone and did NOT have this problem. Anyone else have any suggestions?

    Hello

Check that you have enabled the following parameter:

-On your iPhone, go to: settings > Messages > turn on send as SMS (if it is already on, it may help to toggle this setting and the iMessage off and on again).

  • Outlook Express - my sent messages are not appearing in my "Sent items" folder.

E-mails are not appearing in my "Sent items" folder  How can I fix it?

Tools | Options | Send. Is the ability to save a copy in sent items checked? If it is already, you have corruption of dbx files.

Spend most of your messages out of the Inbox and then create new folders to send and sent items box after having moved the messages you want to save to a local folder that you create.

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Note the location and navigate on it in Explorer Windows or, copy and paste in start | Run.

In Windows XP, Win2K & Win2K3 the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder Options icon | Opinion, or in Windows Explorer. Tools | Folder options | View.

With OE closed, find the DBX files for the items in the Outbox and sent and delete them.  New ones will be created automatically when you open OE.

After you're done, followed by compacting your folders manually while working * off * and do it often.

Click Outlook Express at the top of the the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work offline (or double-click on work online in the status bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed.

    General precautions for Outlook Express:

Do not archive mail in the receipt or sent items box. Create your own user-defined folders and move messages you want to put in them. Empty the deleted items folder daily. Although the dbx files have a theoretical capacity of 2 GB, I recommend all a 300 MB max for less risk of corruption.
