Microsoft 2007 issue of show desktop icon

My icon show desktop on the quick launch in 2007 Microsoft is missing and I can't seem to appear without going into Internet Explorer.  I need to know if it can be added to the quick launch area.

See this transparent rectangle in the lower right of your taskbar? It's your button show desktop. Use it the same way you used it on XP.

When "show desktop icons" is checked, I see my desktop icons and I see the background as usual. I can stretch. I can focus. I can tile. I like it.

But at the time when I uncheck "show desktop icons" describes the problem is present. I can't stretch it. I can't focus. I can not the tile. I hate it.

Yes. This control simply allows you to show or hide. It does not change the contents of the desktop (C:\Users\\Desktop) user-defined folder. Good luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Crazy" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com Windows help - www.rickrogers.org

  • Show Desktop icon is missing from the Quick Launch bar

    Original title: Windows Search

I have Windows XP, home edition, SP3, IE8, and I lost one of my desktop icons that I use frequently. This is the icon that is always in the taskbar, as well as a few others. The icon is what opens on the desktop whenever you click on it. It is a white square that looks like a block of office paper, with a figure of what looks like a pencil or pen appearing thereon.  Somehow, somehow, it was deleted, and I can't find where to get it back. I have been in the control panel on 'VIEW' and no luck, only we in the menu of the taskbar and start and he can find, checked a large number of menus that contain the word "Desktop" in it and I clicked on a large number of them also without a bit of luck too. Once more, he is a white icon and is still in the taskbar at the bottom of the screen of the monitor. Someone knows must return this icon... any help would be appreciated.

I value and often use the button SHOW DESKTOP which has always been in my QUICK START MENU... until I recently upgraded to the latest version of Firefox because he promised to be faster (and my experience online in spite of paying for "high speed" is anything but fast!). I see that the icon was not just moved but DELETED and I'm not at all happy about it. What happened and how I get it back? Thank you. (By the way, I don't want a fancy with a bunch of words irritable instructions. I need the answer in a format that can follow a student of 1st year. (Thank you.)

You can create a new shortcut easily enough. Just drag it into the Quick Launch bar on with the right mouse button and then choose "Create shortcut here" from the menu you get.

  • Show hidden/missing of the desktop icons

original title: hide the desktop icons

Hide the icons on desktop on Windows 7 seems a fairly common theme in these forums, but I still have to find a solution that works. The standard response is to right click on the desktop, click view, and then remove the checkmark "show desktop icons". To do this I have to go through the process, not once but twice. After signing and signature later back on I have to repeat this procedure. Tutorial Windows gives the impression that removing the "Show desktop icons" check will keep these icons are displayed until you handed the check mark. This isn't the case for me. Miss me how crucial link in this puzzle?

    Thank you very much.

No matter how many new accounts are created, one of them must be considered with the administrator account and corruption is obviously attached to her.

Incorrect answer.  You can have hundreds + administrator accounts.  There are still only * one * original built-in Administrator account.  If every account you create ends with this issue, then something is corrupt overall.  If the problem is only for a user account once you make them an administrator - I'd guess malware infestation can only be solved in the long term by a format and a new installation of the system and all of the affected software.

When you create a new account - copy less.  Ignore the suggestion to Microsoft article.

What you want to copy is: Desktop, Favorites and Documents on the Start Menu.  Leave everything else at the moment.

Let me be as accurate as possible...

If your old account user was named "GoodbyeDolly" and your new account is "HelloDolly", you will copy the following (after creating and logging into the new "HelloDolly" administrator-level account).

    Copy everything under:
    C:\Users\GoodbyeDolly\Favorites
    TO
    C:\Users\HelloDolly\Favorites

    Copy everything under:
    C:\Users\GoodbyeDolly\Desktop
    TO
    C:\Users\HelloDolly\Desktop

    Copy everything under:
    C:\Users\GoodbyeDolly\Documents
    TO
    C:\Users\HelloDolly\Documents

    Copy everything under:
    C:\Users\GoodbyeDolly\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu
    TO
    C:\Users\HelloDolly\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu

Nothing else at this time.  NOTHING.  Not a single file.  Not a single setting.  Do nothing else for the new account in terms of trying to get stuff from the old account.

You * will * need to configure your homepage (s) Internet.  You should know where your previously saved word, excel, and other office documents.  You must assign the account 'HelloDolly' his own password.  There may be dozens of other customizations that can be (will be) different for each user of a computer that you * will * have to do.  Wallpaper, computer sounds when you do certain things, the disposal of the office icons themselves, the order of the start menu, which is visible on the taskbar and how and when, etc.

    Allurfine/Chimel:

The 'show desktop' icon is redundant, good stuff... OK, so, we'll put it all together:

    (1) How to create icon "Show Desktop" - and place it on start bar (or indeed in any folder you want that you have write access to the disk):

Click Start and run, type notepad in the Open box, and then click OK.
Copy carefully and then paste the following text in the Notepad window:
    [Shell]

    Order = 2

    IconFile = explore .exe, 3

    [Taskbar]

    Command = ToggleDesktop

On the file menu, click Save as, and then save the file to your desktop as "Show desktop.scf". The show, the desktop icon is created on your desktop.

Once you have created the icon, you can also drag on the start bar and access it from the start menu if you wish.

    2) show the desktop on the taskbar icon:

On the right bar or a task far beyond date and time zone.

    (3) computer access from desktop with Windows-D.

    * There you go. Here are 3 ways you can use show desktop. All are redundant. That said, Windows is full of redundancies if you want to get technical - I'm guessing another synonym for this is "user friendly". Use any method you want. I think the point is to have as many options as possible and use Windows in any way works best for you.

    Good luck

    1. have there been recent changes to the computer before the show?

I suggest to try the given steps and check if it helps.

Method 1: You can right-click on the desktop, point to view, and then make sure that the appropriate brand is positioned in front of the Show Desktop icons.

    For your reference: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Show-hide-or-resize-desktop-icons

Method 2: You can also configure your computer in a clean boot state and check to see if the same problem happens.

By setting your boot system minimum state helps determine if third-party applications or startup items are causing the problem.

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or Windows 7:

Note: After the boot minimum troubleshooting step, follow step 7 in the link provided to return the computer to a Normal startup mode.

Method 3: Desktop shortcuts disappear in Windows 7: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/978980

Method 4: If this is a recent problem, and then you try to run the system restore.
