Microsoft Security Essentials - turn

How do I temporarily stop Microsoft Security Essentials and then turn back on when I choose to do?

I am running Win 7 Ultimate 64-bit.

Hello

This should help you:

'How to temporarily disable Microsoft Security Essentials'

http://www.PCWorld.com/article/2025707/how-to-temporarily-disable-Microsoft-security-essentials.html

1. find the Security Essentials icon in your system tray (usually, it is represented by a small green house with a flag on top). Right-click and choose Open.

2. click on the settings tab.

3. click on real-time protection.

4 uncheck turn on real-time protection (recommended).

5. click on the save changes button.

So, this is the equivalent of switching Security Essentials 'OFF '. Do that, then come back to what you're trying to troubleshoot and see if it solves the problem. (If so, well, it's a whole other can of worms.)

When you are finished troubleshooting steps, repeat 4 and 5 (this time checking the box, natch) to rekindle Security Essentials.

See you soon.

Windows Defender features are included in MSE, defender of loading would be redundant.

    MSE is antivirus + antispyware.

Then think about MSE as Windows Defender with more added (which is).

  • Problem: Windows Security Center gives me a "alert" that my anti-virus is turned off, but I am running Windows defender and Microsoft Security Essentials.

Windows Security Center gives me a "alert" that my anti-virus is disabled.  I have Win XP Professtional and'm running Windows defender and Microsoft Security Essentials times which I recently uninstalled, restarted the computer and reinstalled more updated.  I read related security problems, but I have not found a match.  I have a screenshot of the Win Security Center Alert, but unable to attach.  It is said: ' Windows found multiple antivirus programs on this computer, but they all report that they could be updated or disabled. Before the uninstall and update, I ran System Mechanic from Iolo, who has done wonders for speed.

When it comes to antivirus software, you want one and only one installed and running on your computer.  Two or more may come into conflict with eachother and degrade performance.  I advise you to uninstall Windows defender and use soley mse.

also I strongly suggest that you avoid using "PC optimization" tools.  They can help a little, but they often do more harm than good.

  • Is Microsoft Security Essentials antivirus enough for a computer?

is microsoft antivirus esstional enough for a computer?

    Hello

Here's what I use and recommend: (these are all free and very effective versions.)

Avast and Prevx proved extremely reliable and compatible with all I have
launched on them. Microsoft Security Essentials and Prevx have also proven to be very
reliable and compatible. Use MSE or Avast and Prevx, Prevx 3 but not all.

Avast Home free - stop any shields is not necessary except leaving Standard, Web, and
    Operation of the network.

    Prevx - Home - free

    Windows Firewall

Windows Defender (is not necessary if you use MSE)

    Protected IE - mode

IE 8 - SmartScreen filter WE (IE 7 phishing filter)

I also IE always start with asset if filter InPrivate IE 8.
(It may temporarily turn off with the little icon to the left of the + bottom
    right of IE)

Two versions of Avast are available 6.x and 4.8 x

Avast - home - free - 6.x stop shields you do not use (except files, Web, network, &)
Shields of behavior) - double click on the icon in the Notification area - real time Orange - click on the
Shield that you want to stop - STOP. To stop the Orange icon to show an error indicator-
Click on the Orange icon - top right - settings - click on the status bar - uncheck shields you
    disabled - click OK
    http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download

Avast 4.8 x - home - free - stop shields, you don't need except leaving Standard, Web,.
and the network running. (Double-click the blue icon - look OK. - upper left - Shields details
    Finish those you don't use).
    http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download#TAB4

Or use Microsoft Security Essentials - free
    http://www.Microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/

Prevx works well alongside MSE or Avast

Prevx - home - free small, fast, exceptional protection CLOUD, working with other security
programs. It is a single scanner, VERY EFFICIENT, if it finds something come back here
or use Google to see how to remove.
    http://www.prevx.com/   <-->
    http://info.prevx.com/downloadcsi.asp  <-->

    PCmag - Prevx - Editor's choice
    http://www.PCMag.com/Article2/0, 2817,2346862,00.asp

Also get Malwarebytes - free - use as scanner only. If you ever think malware and that
would be unusual with Avast and occasional Prevx running with the exception of a low level cookie
(not much), to UPDATE and then run it as a scanner. I have a lot of scanners and they
never find anything of note that I started to use this configuration.

  • Disabled the HTTPS option in Hotmail and problems with the Windows Firewall, Microsoft Security Essentials and Windows updates.

Original title: Windows Live Hotmail only opens a new window links e-mail composition!

I recently put my Windows Live Hotmail account to my default e-mail client in Internet Explorer 8 on my Windows XP SP3 System. Unfortunately, whenever I click on a link to e-mail on a Web page to open a new message, Hotmail tells me, "Sorry, there seems to be a problem with Hotmail right now", and a new/compose message window does not open. I disabled the HTTPS option in Hotmail, which fixed the problem. However, when I went to do a manual update of Windows, I am nailed with a Trojan horse! Apparently, the Windows Firewall and Microsoft Security Essentials have been affected by turning off HTTPS in Hotmail! It's 2012, and it's terribly disappointing that Microsoft only has not ironed out all the imperfections in these services now. If anyone can give me a solution (in simple terms), I would appreciate it!

    Thank you

    Hello

Yes; Microsoft Security Essentials should disable Windows Defender for the reasons you mentioned.

If she didn't turn it off, you should manually have to do it anyway.

Q: is - this installation of Microsoft Security Essentials (XP/Vista/7) disable Windows Defender?
    A:
Microsoft Security Essentials should disable Windows Defender in Vista and Windows 7, and then uninstall it from XP. In some cases, this does not happen automatically.

Q: what happens if I do not disable or uninstall Windows Defender, if I use Microsoft Security Essentials (XP/Vista/7)?
A: If Microsoft Security Essentials and Windows Defender are both running, your system can know the performance degradation and other problems caused by the conflict of two services providing real-time protection at the same time.
