Should I deactivate Windows Defender running Microsoft Security Essentials?

I installed Microsoft Security Essentials on vista and I wanted to know if I should keep Windows Defender on or turn it off?

Windows Defender must stop automatically when you install MSE, but if not then I would recommend do you: MSE already has Defender engine everything in it, and it's not great to run both at the same time.

    When it comes to antivirus software, you want one and only one installed and running on your computer.  Two or more may come into conflict with eachother and degrade performance.  I advise you to uninstall Windows defender and use soley mse.

    also I strongly suggest that you avoid using "PC optimization" tools.  They can help a little, but they often do more harm than good.

  • I need to keep Windows Defender and Microsoft Security Essentials installed?

    My question is, what do I need to keep Windows Defender installed too, or I can uninstall it.

    I have Microsoft Security Essentials installed and it works fine. I am running Vista 64 bit with service PK. 2 and the Defender is installed under Vista. Before MSE I used Windows Live One Care until my subscription has expired and that they did not renew it. At that point, I finally installed MSE. Windows defender can be uninstalled? No it can't be uninstalled

    It is part of the vista operating system

  • Kaspersky and Windows Defender AKA Microsoft Security Essentials

    As Kaspersky comes with new computers, it neutralizes or has any kind of problem with Windows Defender?

    As we know 2 Antivirus somehow (disabled or not properly uninstalled) in a computer is a BIG no-no, how you handle this?

    Hello

    It is not recommended to use two Antivirus at the same time. You can use Kaspersky or Microsoft Security Essential. Windows Defender is the defense against software spyware and other unwanted software. If Anti Virus is active and working then he will take over from Windows Defender. The things most important do not use two antivirus at the same time.

    Consult the following link:

  • Windows Defender vice MS Security Essentials

    Hi all

    I would like to find some information on Windows Defender and MS Security Essentials it please.

    MS Security Essentials isn't just a spyware/malware scanner, or does it also include an AntiVirus program, it contains?

    Windows Defender is just a spyware/malware scanner, or does it also include an AntiVirus program, it contains?

    How the two programs compare to all spyware/malware scanning & Protection?

    I'm looking for a good spyware/malware scanner that offers on-demand so many Scaning & Protection in real time.
    I use Spyware Terminator but dropped it when they went to a newer version which had nagware in & used-to-peer for the updates.
    and that just kept this connection works, unless you remember to turn it off!

    I have 2 computers, one running Windows XP Pro SP2 (soon updated to SP3), with Avast AntiVirus & Comodo Firewall.
    I'm looking for a good spyware/malware scanner that offers real-time real Scaning & protection.  But I think I read that MS Security Essentials
    a AntiVirus program and it would cause problems with Avast running at the same time!

    The 2nd computer I have is a laptop with Windows 7 (X 64-bit) Home edition that is also running Avast AntiVirus & Comodo Firewall,
    It came with Windows Defender on it and I don't know if this is causing a conflict with the AvastAV program?

    Your help in this matter is greatly appreciated!

    Sincerely,

    Cindy ;>)

    PS: If MS Security Essentials contains an AntiVirus, how does that compare to Avast AV protection?

    Hello

    To add a bit to the excellent advice already given:

    Of course, you want excellent malware detection, however excellent system
    compatibility is just as important and many fail on the latter.

    Notice I recommend Avast or MSE and suggest adding Prevx - free that
    offers extra protection and superior detection. Prevx is designed to work along
    SIFE other antivirus/security programs.

    Here's what I use and recommend: (these are all free and very effective versions.)

    Avast and Prevx proved extremely reliable and compatible with all I have
    launched on them. Microsoft Security Essentials and Prevx have also proven to be very
    reliable and compatible. Use MSE or Avast and Prevx, Prevx 3 but not all.

    Avast Home free - stop any shields is not necessary except leave the file system, Web,.
    Operational network (Script and behavior are also recommended in Ver 6 +).

    Prevx - Home - free

    Windows Firewall

    Windows Defender (is not necessary if you use MSE)

    Protected IE - mode

    IE 8 - SmartScreen filter WE (IE 7 phishing filter)

    I also IE always start with asset if filter InPrivate IE 8.
    (It may temporarily turn off with the little icon to the left of the + bottom
    right of IE)

    Two versions of Avast are available 6.x and 4.8 x

    Avast - home - free - 6.x stop shields you do not use (except files, Web, network, &)
    Shields of behavior) - double click on the icon in the Notification area - real time Orange - click on the
    Shield that you want to stop - STOP. To stop the Orange icon to show an error indicator-
    Click on the Orange icon - top right - settings - click on the status bar - uncheck shields you
    disabled - click OK
    http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download

    Avast 4.8 x - home - free - stop shields, you don't need except leaving Standard, Web,.
    and the network running. (Double-click the blue icon - look OK. - upper left - Shields details
    Finish those you don't use).
    http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download#TAB4

    Or use Microsoft Security Essentials - free
    http://www.Microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/

    Prevx works well alongside MSE or Avast

    Prevx - home - free small, fast, exceptional protection CLOUD, working with other security
    programs. It is a single scanner, VERY EFFICIENT, if it finds something come back here
    or use Google to see how to remove.
    http://www.prevx.com/   <-->
    http://info.prevx.com/downloadcsi.asp?prevx=Y<-->

    Choice of PCmag editor - Prevx-
    http://www.PCMag.com/Article2/0, 2817,2346862,00.asp

    Also get Malwarebytes - free - use as scanner only. If you ever think malware and that
    would be unusual with Avast and occasional Prevx running with the exception of a low level cookie
    (not much), to UPDATE and then run it as a scanner. I have a lot of scanners and they
    never find anything of note that I started to use this configuration.

    I hope this helps.

    You can run Microsoft Security Essentials along the coast with Verizon internet suite? Or will they come into conflict.

    Hello

    You should be able to use the free version of Prevx with Verizon and Firefox.

  • If running Microsoft Security Essentials do I need run Windows Defender? Is the reason why I can't start the Defender-Essentials?

    I use Microsoft Security Essentials on Vista x 32.  Security Center tells me to start Windows Defender.  I click to start, but he tells me that I have to restart my computer or manually start Defender myself.  I go to services, and it does not advocate.  It basically tells me that my system has no need currently the program or there is another reason, it does not start.  Responses tells me that for the error code of course, I met error 0x800106ba later Code it tells me to try to start it manually if it doesn't work I have uninstall Defender and need to reinstall it.  Yet when I go to uninstall programs, Defender is not listed.  I tried to install it again because it is not listed, I thought I could.  When I went to install it, it-error telling me that I have already as it came pre-installed with Vista.

    Now, my question.  Do I really need Defender since I use Microsoft Security Essentials?  Is in fact an older version almost essential?  Why it tells me to start it if it is not needed? And if necessary, why it won't start

    I have 18 installed Firefox. This is the third time that Firefox has stopped opening.

    I ran Malwarebytes and Microsoft Security Essentials all three times and each time found any problems. The only thing that worked was (using Revo Uninstaller) uninstalling and reinstalling.

    It has worked well for three weeks and stopped opening again last night.

    Oh, and attempt to use the mozilla help screens in Internet Explorer is a nightmare...

    And I tried to use the troubleshooter below, IE won't let either.

    One possible cause is security software (firewall, antivirus) that prevents or limits Firefox or plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after the detection of changes (update) for the Firefox program.

    Delete all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container in the permissions list in the firewall and leave your firewall again ask permission to get full unlimited access to the internet for Firefox and the plugin-container and the update process.

    See:

    Try to start the computer in safe mode Windows with network support (on the startup screen, press F8) as a test to see if that helps.

    I keep trying to update and all these errors reappear. I can't install Microsoft Security Essentials and any update of Windows. I tried to do system Recoery by pressing F11 after reboot, and it does not work either.  I'm guessing that something might be wrong with the registry or there is a virus but I am not a computer wiz. I don't have the Vista recovery disc and the original disk to restart.  is it possible to fix this?

    I paid to get it to format in November 2010... I installed a fake Windows Vista on it (32 bits but my PC on a 64-bit password) so I had to clean install it.

    I don't understand: If you paid someone to format the HARD drive and do a clean Windows, when install I YOU "installed a 32-bit Vista?"

    If your parent friend had lost the Windows CD comes with the brand new computer, the person you paid use to do the clean install of Vista 64-bit?

    I do not see KB948465 in installed updates, only KB956250 & KB256506

    I asked only KB948465. In any case, KB256506 is not an update or a section of the play.

    No, I never had any other than Microsoft Security Essentials antivirus

    Again, I don't understand. If you have never had any other antivirus MSE and MSE has been installed since November 2010, why you try to 'install Microsoft Security Essentials' now?

    Q: which, if any, of these updates ARE LISTED in updates installed (no update history)?
    A: See the number 3, I don't see anything else apart from those two

    What "number 3"? You see nothing else, in addition to the two updates to date?

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    I give up. I can't help you if you do not answer my specific questions in your very next answers!
    I think you'd better take the computer back to the repair shop & pay to figure what's wrong (yet). Good luck.
  • E520 stock Windows 7 and Microsoft Security Essentials.
    We recently got a new E520 Edge to one of our teachers, had met with an interesting question.
    When you install Microsoft Security Essentials, on reboot, the Microsoft Antimalware Service goes from automatic to manual and the service is stopped.
    Before you start saying "Infected" do not forget that this system is straight out of the box and had not been on the internet for something else to install MSE. I also restored to the factory settings and tried again with the same results.
    A process that is to recreate it:
    (1) restoration of the system to the original image. (first attempt was out of the box)
    (2) strengthened with the Standard Windows 7 OOBE.
    (3) after the Windows 7 OOBE, a Lenovo window appears asking to activate Norton Internet Security 2012
    (4) does not have activate Norton as Norton will disappear. Norton is still installed.
    (5) do not install Office.
    (5) at this point, the desktop appears. So I uninstall Norton Internet Security 2012 and rebooted. (on the first attempt, I used the last Norton Removal Tool)
    (6) upon reboot, connected to the internet, installed Microsoft Security Essentials, upgrade to the latest defs and restarted.
    Restart on 7), started Services.msc and looked at Microsoft Antimalware Service. It is started and set to automatic.
    (8) 30 seconds later. Service is set to manual. The service is stopped. MSE has a red icon.
    (9) subsequent reboots will not start MSE automatically. It must be started manually. Put back the service to automatic will be cancelled manually on a restart.
    It must be something new added to the Lenovo images, because old E520 images had a different window of Lenovo who install Norton after asking the user, and MSE works very well on them, and I'm half tempted to wipe the hard drive and install that version on this laptop because I have restore media , but before I do, someone has a idea what installed app or rest Norton kills MSE program?
    He solved.
    Made a ton of tests on the laptop and followed the Lenovo RapidBoot problem. Looked for an update, and of course, there is an update that corrects a but in Lenovo RapidBoot affecting the Microsoft Antimalware service manual. Given that the system update does not seem to have the update available, here is the link to get the latest version.
