  When I started Windows today I went to the ORB start and all programs and noticed that many programs were missing. Then a pop-up is above and declared that C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows was corrupted which is why I could not access this folder or Open regedit or other system tools. He said I should use the chkdsk utility, but he tells me that he'll run when I reboot but on reboot, nothing happens. I'm dualbooting linux and vista Home premium x 64 so I don't know if this affects chkdsk. If someone could help in helping fix me my C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows folder because I really don't want to have to reinstall vista for the 3rd time its really become a pain. I scanned with multiple spyware software AntiVirus such as Kaspersky and Avira anti tools such as malwarebits and spybot s & d and nothing seems to come for my problem.   You can try to do a system restore to a point when your computer was working properly.

  You can do this by going to start, all programs, accessories, System Tools, open system restore and choose a date when the computer was working properly.

  If you can't do a system restore, you may need an upgrade in Place, or a reinstall.

  In Windows 7, the AllUsers folder is not a real file.

  It is a symbolic link that redirects to the C:\ProgramData folder.

  ProgramData is not hidden, by default.

  The correct syntax for the Attrib command would be,

  C:\>attrib h ProgramData

  You can view all files by going to the tab options\View Organize\Folder and research.

  In the section files and hidden files , place a check mark in the Show drives, folders and hidden files.

  I have a problem to upgrade Windows Vista Edition family of Windows 7 Home Edition 64-bit. I followed the upgrade process includes the 3 parts of the Guide to upgrade Windows. Part 1 was successful, but when I was doining part 2 (insert the Microsoft Windows 7 upgrade DVD) I get an error message upgrading to 64-bit could not be done.

  Now, I have installed Windows 7 with 32-bit on my E: partition. But this isn't what I want and what it should be. I want to update my Windows Vista 64-bit Edition of Windows 7 Home edition 64-bit, and then I want to buy an upgrade to Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.

  Personal data backup (which none should be considered 100% reliable at this point) then format the HARD disk and do a clean install of Windows.  Please note that a repair installation (upgrade AKA on-site) won't fix this!

  I got 'Factory Restore' from my PC, so I don't know I have re-installed Windows XP needs a LOT of updates, but whenever I visit Microsoft Windows Update and it starts looking for updates, I need, it hangs, saying: the website has encountered an error.

  I've updated the IE6 from the IE8 recovery DVD, after reading that IE6 is no longer compatible with the Update Service, but the Windows Update problem persists.

  I have Win XP SP2, so I TRIED to install SP3, but it fails, saying the license / Digital Signature for the SP3 update is invalid.

  Download the standalone SP3 installation program from here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=24

  You will see that it is described as being for IT and the developers, but it is no different than the same file that you can download from the Windows Update site (if you can get there).

  If after installing SP3, you still have a problem with Windows Update, run this Fixit:
