I am at my wits end now ragarding Microsoft Windows vista update code "80070246" error Need help.

Hello

I have windows vista and for the last few weeks I can't get windows updates. I just get an error with this code 80070246 screen. It says 'never' most recent checks the updates and updates have been installed 'never '. I did the operation of Micorsoft update packages to prepare and package files autonomous but still no luck. I can't do this thing global installer that you burn it to a cd and run your windows disk with as I don't have vista or windows disk that the computer came with it installed, but no disc.

Completely fed up that I can't install printers etc.. Ive tried to disable my internet security completely taken it out but still no luck so it isn't a firewall problem.

Can someone please recomment something?

Yes, this problem did start once my previous [subscription of the antivirus application?] has expired.

Personal data backup (which none should be considered 100% reliable at this point) then format the HARD disk and do a clean install of Windows.  Please note that a repair installation (upgrade AKA on-site) won't fix this!

HOW to do a clean install of Vista: section "If you want to reinstall Windows Vista by running a new installation...". "of http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/Installing-and-reinstalling-Windows-Vista

Tip: Contact the manufacturer of the computer for instructions on the use of the hidden restore partition (do not be confused with the system restore) to do a clean install of Vista.

Once installed the clean, you will have the equivalent of a "new computer" in order to take care of everything on the next page before connecting the machine to the internet or one local network (i.e. other computers) otherwise and before using a flash drive or the SD card that is not brand new, or has not been freshly formatted:

Tip: After getting the computer fully patched, download/install KB971029 manually: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971029

NB: No matter what Norton or McAfee free trial which is preinstalled on the computer when you bought will be reinstalled (but invalid) when Windows is reinstalled. You MUST uninstall the trial for free and download/run the removal tool before installing updates, Windows Service Packs, or updates IE and before installing your new anti-virus application (which will require WinXP SP3 must be installed).

Note: Extended Support for WinXP (x 86) SP2 ends July 13, 2010. After this date, computers that run Windows XP SP2 will NOT be offered additional security updates critical (x 86), automatic updates do not work, and Windows Update Web site is not accessible until SP3 is installed.

  • End of support for Windows Vista?

I read on the website of mutiple Microsoft gives more updates for Windows Vista Home Premium after April 10, 2012. Is this true? On the official Microsoft page (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/products/home), it says: "Microsoft sells more than Windows Vista, although we will continue to support. It is still available from some retailers. " And when I look on the end of Support page (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/help/end-support), he said only that the support for SP1 had completed last year.

So I'm a bit confused. I would be grateful is someone could clarify that for me.

    Hello remco8264,

Please see the end of support for the OS to Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 at the following link:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/products/lifecycle

You wouldn't get updates for Windows Vista SP1, but if you install your service pack SP2, you will always receive updates.

    I hope this helps.

  • had my computer for 4 years and now bed screen Windows Vista (TM) Build 6002 this copy of windows is not genuine?

Screen reads Windows Vista (TM) Build 6002 this copy of windows is not genuine.

I had this for 4 years and no computer has ever seen this. I'm on anyway by clicking on "Activate later."

All the 'Help' forums I see suggest retype the product key. The sticker on my computer has a series of 20 characters of 5 letters and then 15 numbers without dashes or breaks.

When I retype it, on the second character (letter) he stops because the field says "invalid character": he wants a number when my product has letters.

In the system when I go to start. Computer. Properties of the system. He also says that I need to activate and has a product ID number with numbers and letters (5 numbers-3 letters-7 digit numbers 5) - but that doesn't work either. I don't know what product key to use because the two seem invalid now or my computer does not allow me to type the right pair...

    so far.

All the advice give me links that do not work, such as:

    Help!

Because my computer is more than 3, I can not yet ask questions by phone. Each application number for my service code that crashes then upwards on me are not covered...

Thanks for any help-i'm mystified as to how this could happen right now. I have not downloaded new programs recently...

I'm afraid to try to uninstall because I don't want to lose my itunes or personal files...

I guess I need to just unplug and get a flashlight, because I easily see not no sticker on my computer with that type of number... it seems crazy that the number is not available otherwise.

If the worst comes to the worst and you have a vista OS preinstalled, Dell, HP or whatever, you do not say, contact the manufacturer of your machine and ask them to send you a set of vista recovery disc and reinstall the operating system to how you bought your machine

normally, these recovery disks do not require an input key product on your part

and they do it for a nominal cost of $

    ________________________________________________________

also ask them if you have a recovery partition on your hard drive to get back to the way you bought

you would normally press F8, F9, F10 or F11 or Alt + F10 or 0 to start to start the recovery process according to the manufacturer

Ask them of the exact key sequence

and the same thing applies to that too; No product key entry required by you

Download updates but let me choose whether to install them - if you select this option, Windows will download the updates on your computer, but not install them automatically. If you want to install updates, then you must install them manually. You should only select this option if you have a reason to not install updates automatically. Only advanced users should use this option.

    or

Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them - if you select this option, you'll be alerted when there are new updates available for download and install. You can then choose to download and install the updates that you want. This option should really be reserved for people who know exactly which updates they need, or those who have little access to the Internet.

  • Updated my computer hardware, now not activate Windows Vista.

I have recently (a few weeks ago) installed a new card mother and CPU, and now my copy of Windows Vista Edition basic family is "not authentic". I tried to enter the product key, and it comes back as invalid.

A new motherboard is considered to be a new computer.

The product key that is connected to the computer applies only to the "old" motherboard It does not apply to the new motherboard.

Read that this response (s) from another thread on a similar, if not exact, question:
Although the responses came from Win7 forum, same reasons apply to Vista.

    http://social.answers.Microsoft.com/forums/en-us/w7install/thread/699b1b77-6090-4EAF-AA9C-2761f90b2080

    The question was:

My old motherboard and CPU have been damaged and have been replaced. I try to use the same license that I used on the old machine, but it is not valid. Is there something I can do or do I have to buy a new license?

    Excerpts of answers:

    J.W. Stuart:
If you have a version of Windows 7 OEM of your off lucky because the OEM key is linked to the PC/Mothboard forst installed it on.

    Andre Da Costa:
OEM licenses are bound to the first computer you install and activate it on

-OEM versions allow all the hardware upgrades except for an upgrade to a different model motherboard

-OEM versions does not move directly from an older Windows operating system

So, Yes, you must purchase a new license, a full version too: http://store.microsoft.com

    Hello

You can get a new hard drive and reinstall Windows on it.

Check with the manufacturer of system for options.

If it will run Windows 7, which would be the best option.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------

If they were under a court order to return the computer of course sounds like they should have to
Return it with a drive hard and in good condition. Mybe not because I don't know any of the details.

  • Help, Windows vista updated suddenly out of nowhere and now it stops and restarts everytime I turn it on.

I was online when suddenly windows updated and rebooted on its own. When I signed up in the hour glass repeated "busy", and then it suddenly takes me to this error page. It gives me only like five seconds to read, then it tries to restart. It seems to work only in safe mode. It's a HP dv6 Windows vista I got like a month ago, and the only programs I have installed were firefox, and boldness.

Go to your computer / computer laptop manufacturer Web site and see if XP drivers are available for your make and model computer / laptop.

If this is not available, XP does not work for you.

  • BlackBerry Smartphones my BBerry is now unusable after trying to update... Please help

OK, I read all over the internet to try to fix this on my own.  I failed to find a solurion.

Today, I tried to update my software through the Bberry Bberry Desktop Manager 5.0 software.  I've done several times before and thought nothing of it.  I chose to have provided updates applied/installed and waited while the process that was happening.  Maybe 3/4 of the way through (I don't remember what exact step took place), I suddenly get a blue screen on my computer showing a crash.

This had never happened before, so I was really hoping that my hard drive is not just conk out on me. Fortunately, it won't happen.  But I was appalled to find that my Bberry had been touched to the point at which I can't return to functionality.

What is displayed on my phone is a white screen that says this:

    BlackBerry platform 4.0.0.247

Options [when he selected readings error from net_rim_bb_options_app:Module 'net_rim_locationapi' not found.]

Saved messages [when selected--> no messages]

Voice recorder Notes [when he selected readings error from net_rim_bb_voicenotesrecorder:Module 'net_rim_mediarecorder' not found.]

I can't do anything else with the phone.  I uninstalled the Desktop Manager 5.0 and reinstalled. When I connect the Bberry to my computer via the USB cord, it was recognized by my computer, but not by the Office Manager.  I even tried to select in the Options--> menu connections, where my PIN has been posted, but that did not help.

I uninstalled DM 5.0 and installed 4.7 to see if this can help, and questions remain.

At this point I don't know what to do.  Can anyone with the expertise of Tech please lead me in the right direction?  Your help will be greatly appreciated.

  • Vista update and we now have a black wallpaper - Satellite P300

Windows Vista update last night on our P300 laptop and is now rather weird.

We get only a black background solid and a lot of the icons that we had are gone, and it will not change the wallpaper. Most of the programs are not loading at startup as usual (only anti virus) and most of the things are missing from the start menu... it happened to anyone before? It sounds almost to what they do when you have a pirate copy of Vista (and of course this one IS legitimate as it came with the lappy)...

    Any suggestings?

I did not physically see the laptop and won't til tomorrow myself... Although my companion knowing its probably just something simple but thought check here around before that snack.

    Thanks :)

    Solved the problem...

A windows update some how corrupted the registry.

I hit log off in windows and then tried clicking on the user name to connect (we just auto journal in value) and when trying to load the profile, we had a service user profile Service has no logon.

A system restore fixed the issue... :)

    Hi Pacoffeegirl,

Welcome to the Microsoft Answers site.

    Follow the steps mentioned below.

    Method 1:

You can reset the Windows Update components. To reset the update Windows components automatically follow the steps mentioned below.

    1. click on the button to resolve this in the article mentioned below.

    2. click run in the file download dialog box and follow the steps described in the fix it Wizard.

For more information, see the article mentioned below.

How to reset the Windows Update components?

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/971058

    Method 2:

This error occurs especially if there is no disk space. You can try a disk clean up and a Disk Defragmenter to free space on the system. Follow the steps mentioned below.

    Step 1:

To determine how much space is available on the hard disk:

    1. click on Start and then click on computer , then point to the hard drive. The total capacity of the disk and free space will appear on a ToolTip.

    2. If you want to free up more space, use the disk cleanup and Disk Defragmenter utility.

    Step 2:

Disk Cleanup lists all temporary files and unnecessary program that you can remove the file from the Internet cache. You can direct disk cleanup to delete some or all of these files and Disk Defragmenter will improve the performance of computers by aligning the files.

    Use disk cleanup

    1. click on Start , type disk cleanup in the Search box, and then click on Disk Cleanup in the programs list.

    Step 3:

    To use Disk Defragmenter

    1. click on Start , type disk cleanup in the Search box, and then click Disk Defragmenter in the programs list.

For more information about Disk Defragmenter, see the following article in the KB942092 .

Features of the Windows Vista hard disk defragmentation utility.
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/942092

The following article will give a better understanding on how to improve the performance of computers.

Optimize the performance of Microsoft Windows Vista
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/959062

After the methods mentioned above, you can update your computer.

    Hope this information is useful.
