Microsoft Word attachments to e-mail

I have a new Dell inspiron 531 with vista home premium Service Pack 1 s. Automatic updates installed Service Pack 2. I bought and installed MS Office Home and Student including MS Word 2007. I have Windows Mail. I can't open a MS word attachment that is sent by e-mail. I get the following: when I double click on the attachment another box pop up asking, do you want to open this file? I click Open and get the following answer: this file is not found, c: /... / (name of the file is inserted here). The attachment was created by MS Word 97-2003 document. How can I open these files? Why am I having this problem? It is my first experience with Vista. I've never had this problem with Windows XP, which is what I wanted to when I bought this computer. BestBuy told me that Microsoft was no longer sell XP and I failed. Is this true? Thank you. I also installed Internet Explorer 8.

Why is this?

Nobody knows :(

The problem is what this happnes to a relatively small number of users, and even among them, the behavior of which is not consistent.  2 with this condition, I personally had my hands on, shortcuts oringal started working as soon as Windows Mail is open from the start, programs, Windows Mail.  But this isn't the case for you.  There is a link some with temporary internet files IE8 (move that made HIM sometimes also solves the problem).

You could try to remove the non-working shortcut and create a new law - work dragging one in the start menu.

Yes, Microsoft Office Word is responsible.

Save it in a folder of your choice. See if you can open it.
If you are able to open it this way, then you need this:

Try this, instead of open Windows Mail on the part of the shortcuts to quick launch or desktop, or in the Start Menu, start it from "start |" All programs | Windows Mail' and see if your attachments open.  There is a recurring problem between Internet Explorer 8 and Windows Mail that causes this and many people have been able to resolve the question drinking from Windows Mail in this way.  These discussions have a lot more information:

  • Windows 7 and Outlook 2007, Microsoft Word won't open

Windows 7 and Outlook 2007 - Microsoft Word attachments are not open.  Word opens but not the file.  Excel works fine.  Sometimes just Word opens and says not responding do not.  If I erase the data word file in via regedit it solves the problem. Also, whenever I open Word I get the question if I want Word to make changes to my computer.  In addition, I can't open Word files by double-clicking.  I have to open Word first.

Techie Microsoft asked me to change a setting of compatibility on the winword exe file and it fixed the problem immediately.

  • Will I lose my google account or microsoft word or email and the email records if I reset firefox?

Increase the grip on my firefox ("not responding" sometimes "the script is not responding"). Last night the mozilla would not respond to my email, so I opted to close the session. What a mistake. I lost all my email, some of them, business correspondence. Will I lose my Google account, e-mail and files written or my program Microsoft Word or Internet Explorer if I "reset"? I'll wait for a response before as I have "reset". Thank you for your service. Sincerely.

This support article describes what refresh: Refresh Firefox – reset settings and Add-ons.

But to answer your specific questions:

    I'm going to lose my...

    • Google account: No. If Firefox don't forget your Google password, you can log into your account and save it again.
    • E-mail: No. your email is not stored in Firefox, it is either stored on the e-mail service provider's website or a separate e-mail program, or both.
    • writing files: I'm not sure what this is. If you are using an add-on to create/save these files, then it is possible that the files will be gone after a refresh because the data associated with the modules are removed. However, if you have created these files in any other way, they should not be affected.
    • Microsoft Word program: No.. A Firefox Refresh does not affect the Microsoft applications.
    • Internet Explorer: No.. A Firefox Refresh does not affect the Microsoft applications.

I noticed that you mentioned a "Reset". Windows has a reset function. I'm only talking about Firefox built in refreshment and not resetting Windows.

    Hello

    · What is the operating system on the computer?

You must set the default e-mail like Outlook or Windows Live Mail on the computer program to send emails from Word.

If you are running windows Vista or Windows 7, then you can follow the procedure from the following link: change which programs Windows uses by default: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Change-which-programs-Windows-uses-by-default
