Migrando ESX ESX 3 per 4

Pessoal,

A verificaram ESX 3.0 para ESX 3.5 or ESX 4.0 pode ser feita usually dando boot no servidor using o DVD sistema e ele dara an option of upgrade or I have than formatar o servidor e instalar zero?

  • ESX4.1 network

First of all, I must say I'm not a person VM, I work on the side network.  We are conducting a debate on how best to integrate the 10Gb network adapters in our environment.  I have read a document dealing with the use of their 10Gb NICs in VMWare.  We currently have up to 10 1 GB per server connections in a switch of Cisco C4900M.  The cost is very high and I'm sure you can imagine what looks like the rack with up to 8 ESX servers per rack.  The Intel document mentions VDS a few times and I am sure that we do not use VDS in our environment.  I want to be able to 10 GB connections two port channel/trunk together and spend all of our traffic through this port channel.  This traffic will include service consoles, vmotion and traffic from the server vm.  Our VM system administrators do not feel that this.  They are always eager to have a separate copper to connect to the service console, or even of vmotion.  Personal networking feels that this can be performed through the port channel by creating a vSwitch and then by creating groups of ports that are members of the vSwitch.  And of course, we'll add the tag of vlan for the port group.  Is what someone does this and is ready to get an idea of trunking esx servers.  I'll also join the Intel document I've read.  Thanks for any info you can provide.

Thank you, Calvin, this is what we as thought network types but we receive disagreements on the side of the virtual machine in the House.  It seems pretty clear, channel ports and the trunk the 10 GB, create a vSwitch and add Exchange to the vSwitch.  Once again thanks for the info.

    Hello

My advice would be to start by being clear on what you mean by a port channel. Types of networks as we want to talk to LACP - but VMware does not support this in general.

A lot of the Adviser comes from an older technology. Where VM traffic performed a NIC could flood until the management traffic on this NETWORK card would be reduced from 1 GB. Copper separate has become a practice best that was almost.

Be realistic, no virtual machine will flood a NIC 10GbE in such a manner. We have tried, with iperf, and we could not always bring a network of management in offline mode. Regardless of any old advise you read, there is no reason that this does not work. In fact, all our lab environments use a single 1 GB NIC for iSCSI, vMotion, VM traffic - and management. I wouldn't do it outside a laboratory, but the point is, it works very well.

Edit: I would also point out that the HCL for 10GB network adapters is very low. Get one that is listed. I had a customer wishes to use a certain brand of network cards, and this was a complete disaster with the seller to provide no compatible drivers HCL.

  • Loan of CPU per ESX host

Is it possible to pull the CPU statistics Ready an ESX host basis by?

The cpu.ready.summation metric is only available for virtual machines, not for ESXi hosts.

But you can work around this problem as follows.

    $vm = Get-VMHost "esx1","esx2","esx3" | Get-VM $metric = "cpu.ready.summation"$start = (Get-Date).AddDays(-1)

    $stats = Get-Stat -Entity $vm -Stat $metric -Start $start $stats | Group-Object -Property {$_.Entity.Host.Name} | %{
        New-Object PSObject -Property @{
            Name = $_.Group[0].Entity.Name
            CpuReadyAvg = ($_.Group | Measure-Object -Property Value -Average).Average
        }
    }

The script collects the metric value for all virtual machines hosted on the ESXi servers on which you want to report.

The values of time ready for all the virtual machine running on a specific host are on average.

  • Get the number of virtual machines per ESX host

I am able to get the account with the following script command, but what I want to do is to report a 0 if there is no virtual machines on a host.  Currently it just show nothing if there are no VMs.  Any suggestions?

    Get-VMHost | Sort - the name of the property. Select Name, @{N = "VMCount"; E={($_ | Get - VM). County}}

You can add an IF in the part of the expression.

    Try it like this

    Get-VMHost | Sort-Object Name | Select Name,@{N="VM";E={if(($_ | Get-VM).Count){($_ | Get-VM).Count} else {0}}}

  • Cannot add the ESX 6.0 host to vCenter Server 6.0

OK, I'm testing laboratory a vsan 6.0 cluster.

I have my running 6.0.0 esx hosts and vcenter server is 6.0.0 also.

I have the services platform on a virtual machine and vcenter on another. I was able to create a data center, then a cluster below.

Then I went to try to add a host to my group and I get this error...

Failed to contact the specified host (hostname\IP). The host may not be available on the network, may have a network configuration problem, or that the management on this host services may not respond.

Per this KB: KB VMware: Add a host VMware ESXi/ESX from VMware vCenter Server fails

I confirmed that my vcenter server and platform services server can see all esx hosts. From the vcenter server, it can ping the host esx and PuTTY can access all of them. I even installed the client and it can connect to all esx hosts. I used the netbios name, IP and FULL domain name and they all work.

I have only a single subnet, so this isn't a problem. DNS resolution works in all areas of both sides, vcenter esx hosts and host esx to vcenter.

    I am quite puzzled.

OK, after working with VMware on this issue, I think that I thought about it.

All my hosts are DL360 G6 servers.

My hosts are run the same build «VMware-ESXi-6.0.0-2494585-HP-600.9.2.38-Mar2015.iso» ESX Downloaded from HP.

All buildings are in trial mode.

After placing a call to VMware, they had me build some ESX VM, the services of the platform and the vcenter VM on an ESX host. We suspended because it took all day to go upward.

Once I woke up all the parts (sql server, esx vm, server platform & vcenter) in virtualization nested, I created my data center, then Cluster then added the ESX host.

The hosts added properly, no error. Then I remembered when I installed ESX inside a virtual machine, I am angry that the iso, I had the habit of HP does not work in my VM nested due to virtualized hardware.

Then a fire came into my head. We will rebuild all of the physical cluster but NOT use the CV provided the iso file but use VMware provided iso file "VMware-VMvisor-Installer - 6.0.0 - 2159203.x86_64.iso".

I did it today. I have rebuilt all hosts with the provided iso file VMware ESX...

Spun SQL Server vCenter, service platform, all VM VM VM you need. My AD & DNS VM are on another server, so he has been upwards all the time.

Connected to the web interface (yuck!).

    Created my data center...

    Created my Cluster...

    Add all my Cluster hosts.

    All of this worked!

Therefore, if you encounter the same problem, I'm plan to generate your with the provided iso file VMware ESX hosts and try it. In my case, the provided HP iso file didn't work properly for me.

I also downloaded the iso file of HP 2 other times to make sure and do a validation test and it did the same thing.

    Hello

There are 100 computers a virtual especially windows 7, some esx host of linux.5 by fibre channel switch and storage and ISL connected with other 5 hosts and other storage containers.

Because the disc is too big I think for a mix of raid 5 7 + 1 and 2 raid 10 raid in 2 pools of hitachi groups, large stripping.

but when I present too big lun in esx will be a problem of reserves scsi? or is it only when I have too much intensive vms in a data store? I want to keep 1 lun = 2 data warehouses.

Hitachi has 2 LUNS of controllers.all I have will present 2 ports to each controller or is better one port per controller? each esx should see tha luns.is even it correct as implementation? its my first project and I don't have too much experience.

Possibility - you should consider that a single LUN has only a single queue, which may present a problem of system.

make sense that due to scsi reservations?

There is no reserve of SCSI.

  • Licenses for ESX I have 5 vs physical Reources hosts

I hope somone can answer this question for me.

    My script is as follows

    4 x Dell R710 each with

    2 x CPU sockets

    288 GB OF RAM

Each ESX host is registered with Enterprise Plus

All 4 hosts are in a single cluster of 4 nodes

Given that the new license allows 96 GB of RAM per CPU socket, should I be removing some of the RAM and put it on other servers, or is it possible to apply more licenses for existing servers.  I ask this question because I ran out of memory resources in my cluster.  Yes, I understand the places available in a cluster, but looking at the resources for each host in the summary in vCenter tab, I have more than 60% or more of available memory on each host.

When I run a script in the cluster by looking at the location of cluster information, I used more slots there are.  My cluster admission control policy has been set to 1 host and I was getting the error on the cluster, saying there isn't enough availbale resources for HA., but when I change the policy of cluster control admission to the processor by 20% and 20% of RAM, I have no problem with HA failover ability resources (even though I'm 96% for the current Capcity of failover memory).

Any suggestion would be greatley appreciated.

    See you soon

    Ant

Welcome to the community - a thing to do you know, it's memory is not phtysical of RAM but vortual RAM (vRAM) - the amount of memory used by the virtual machines running on the host - the with the company rock you more to use 96 GB x 2 x 4 or 768 GB vRAM in your enfironment - and that is also a rolling 12-month average so you can approve but to ensure that you are in compliance just add the amount of RAM you assign to virtual machines - and if you have a virtual machine with more than 96 GB just treat as 96 GB.

To unferstand what is happening with you cluster HA need for more information on virtual machines running - as the number of processors, amount of memory allocated.

  • Problema aggiornamento da esx 4.1

    Hello to all,

    "

Compliance status is Incompatible and remediation fails for ESX 4.1 Update 1 guests when you scan or clean up the hosts against a 5.0 ESXi upgrade of base
When you perform an upgrade analysis of ESX 4.1 Update 1 against hosts an ESXi 5.0 upgrade of basis, compliance status may be Incompatible.  Sanitation of the 4.1 Update 1 against a reference level 5.0 ESXi ESX host upgrade may fail. Scanning problems and sanitation are caused by third-party drivers in installing ESX 4.1 update 1. After an analysis of upgrading of the hosts more than information on third party software are provided in the details of the conflict for the upgrade of base.
Workaround: two types of drivers could cause problems.

    • Drivers Async, for example oem-vmware-esx-drivers-scsi-3w-9xxx .
The seller goes out of asynchronous mode for ESXi 5.0 drivers, and the drivers will be available in the repository of VMware fix. If you need these drivers, you must download them, use Image Builder CLI to create a customized image of ESXi that contains them and clean up against the custom image. Without the ESXi 5.0 drivers, relevant hardware devices may stop working.
    • Disapproved the drivers, for example oem-vmware-esx-drivers-net-vxge .
The pilot is discontinued in ESXi 5.0 because the relevant material is discontinued. In the Update Wizard Manager remedy, on the ESXi 5.x upgrade page, click Remove installed third-party software that is not compatible with the upgrade and continues with reclamation.  You should be aware of the functional implications of removal of third-party software, because the relevant hardware devices may stop working.

  • How to add SAN LUN in ESX of CLI?

    Hello people,

I work for a team of engineers to implementation, where our tasks involve the construction of about 15 bunches per month.

As part of build tasks, we end up consuming more time add the SAN LUN in the ESX servers all running ESX 4.1 through the Victoria Cross.

I understand that the vmkfstools command could help us create a partition vmfs3 on the LUN, but when I do it asks me to set the partition to 0xfb and I believe that we should use the parted for that utility.

I can't define it with a single command. My goal is to put these commands in a script to speed up the work.

    presented.png

I'm also not sure if the LUN list that I see in the Terminal Server to ESX Server session is the same as what I see in the VCenter. How can I do?

Comparing the two screenshots, I see an additional LUN of the Terminal Server session

Would appreciate any help in this matter.

    Hello

Take a look on the link below

    http://www.virtu-al.NET/2009/08/28/PowerCLI-mass-provision-datastores/

And if you work in a team of engineers, I recommend to familiarize themselves with PowerCLI, tool very powerful

BTW, I remember if you would vmkfstool used for the creation of VMFS, data warehouses will be not aligned LUN pieces that could lead to a deterioration of storage I/O performance

  • ESX, number of network cards, NETIOC or traditional approach

    Hi all

I have a question of design on the network of an ESX environment configuration.

In short, we must decide how many cards per server, we need.

It's an ESX cluster for a Cloud Computing environment (hosting).

I told my boss about 8 cards per server would be appropriate (4-port ethernet cards).

He said, however, that I am crazy in the coconut with so many NICs per host,

because of the complex network management / wiring.

and said that the 2 network cards should be sufficient, or maximum 4.

We don't know yet if we'll use NETIOC or the traditional approach

with multiple VSWITCHEs to separate the network flow.

That's what I had in mind when using no NETIOC:

    THE VM NETWORK:

    VSWITCH1 - ETH0 (active) = physical NIC 0_port0

    Eth1 (at rest) = physical NIC 1_port0

    VMOTION NETWORK:

    VSWITCH2 - ETH2 (active) = physical NIC 0_port1

    Eth3 (at rest) = physical NIC 1_port1

    IP STORAGE NETWORK:

    VSWITCH3 - ETH4 (active) = physical NIC 2_port0

    (Passive) ETH5 = physical NIC 3_port0

    NETWORK FAULT TOLERANCE:

    VSWITCH4 - ETH6 (active) = physical NIC 2_port1

    (Passive) ETH7 = physical NIC 3_port1

Is it really that crazy to have 8 adapters per ESX host?

If so, the 6 is acceptable?

I think 6 would work if we combine vmotion and storage over IP on the same VSWITCH,

or tolerance vmotion and the fault on the same VSWITCH.

He thinks that 4 is an absolute minimum.

Somehow, I don't think it's a good idea to combine the vmotion/ipstorage/and fault tolerance

on the same network adapter. I think that if we get only 4 adapters for each host.

We forget storage over IP and keep all related storage

    connected with Fibre Channel.

But maybe I am too greedy-NIC here?

Currently, we do not fault tolerance

but I think that there is a demand for it in the future.

It is, therefore, may be an exaggeration to allocate separate physical maps to do this.

It might be better to combine it with the flow VMOTION?

That's what I had in mind when using NETIOC:

1 virtual switch, whose actions for the load balancing,

and with the load database grouping enabled.

    SHARING OF NETWORK FLOWS:

    VMOTION 20 |  VSWITCH1 | eth0_ACTIVE

    MGMT 10 |                         | eth1_ACTIVE

    NFS 20 |                         | eth2_ACTIVE

    FT                  10  |                         | eth3_ACTIVE

    VM                 40  |                         | eth4_ACTIVE

    |                         | eth5_ACTIVE

    |                         | eth6_STANDBY

    |                         | eth7_STANDBY

It may take a higher share for NFS valuie.

We don't know yet what kind of goal, NFS data warehouses will be used.

There will also be Fibre Channel connected to data warehouses.

In the NETIOC scenario, if 8 physical NIC are really too much, I guess we could

    do with 6

But 6 also seems to be a minimum in this situation for me,

or can come out us with 4?

Also, about NETIOC, given that this kind of thing is still pretty new (since 4.1),

anyone here have experience with the new NETIOC feature on

    a distributed switch?

I would get at least 6 cards per server,

better one or two network cards too much that you do not use at the beginning.

but have the option to use, at least be blocked eventually.

not being able to implement a feature (for example. Fault tolerance)

because you have no free NIC more.

Or otherwise, they should just go with 2x10GB NIC,.

and distribute the stream with NETIOC.

It would greatly simplify cabling and management.,.

    and give more bandwidth

    Well...

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Concerning best practices, you will need 8-

vMotion and your management network (you had left it) can share a pare - woth the pair configured active / standby management and standby/active for vMotion - FT, VM Network and Sotrage IP network should all be insulated and redundnat - depending on your load I/O that you can condense up to four network adapters with FT/VMs and storage over IP sharing the same NIC but on different VLAN -
