Migrate from vCenter Server 5.1 again cluster

I have my server vCenter Server (v5.1) VM on a former cluster of servers ESXi 4.1/5.0. I only have vSwitches on each of these hosts. I now have a new 5.1 ESXi hosts managed by this same vCenter Server cluster. However, this new cluster has a with completely different dvSwitch VLAN is configured. I have already created several new VM in this new cluster with the new VLAN / port groups.

I would spend my vCenter Server the old the new cluster and I can't understand how to do this since I can't access my dvSwitch when adding my vCenter Server VM to a new host.

Any ideas?

Thank you

BM

Is not possible. For a migration live to work, you need the source networks and applications available in both environments.

I just create a new server vCenter in the 5.1 environment and migrate new hosts to the new vCenter server.

  • Migrate from vCenter Server again HW with Cisco 1000v in environment

I have a cluster 13 hosts ESXi 4.1 using a cisco 1kv currently and you want to move the vcenter server to a new host.  I anticipate using the same database as the existing host and IP.  Having the 1kv cisco in the environment will prevent simply connecting me the new instance of an existing database (after powering down the first instance) or it will create no additional steps in the process?

As long as you manage the server vCenter and db, you should be fine.  You will encounter problems if you change these, like the 1KV, is ultimately always a dvSwitch, associated with the server vcenter himself.  Thus, while you plan to move to new hardware, your vCenter is still considered to be the old vcenter, otherwise, you will encounter problems.

    Hope that makes sense.

  • Local SQL database migration from Vcenter 5 to a SQL cluster

    Hello

I'm trying to migrate my real installation vcenter 5 with a sql local database to a SQL clusster.

This is manipulation that I do:

    -Stop services vcenter

-Copy the mdf and ldf for the database files in my directory my SQL cluster

-Change the ODBC connector to specify the path of the database news

After this manipulation I try to restart services Vcenter and he pop up me an error.

After somes tests I do an unistall of the vcenter instance.

I have check the ODBC connector after unistall and it has been deleted.

I create another with the pathof my database to my SQL cluster and I restart installing Vcenter 5

When I check "use an existing database" and specify my recreate ODBC connector before.

    Installation works very well.

After restarting my server vcenter server start without problems and work.

I need to know if there is a possibility of just 'fix' the instance to specify the new database because uninstall the instance is a great action?

    Thanks for help you,

    Hello

I have try this manipulation in the laboratory environment and this work as a result of this step:

-Copy the files mdf and listening to your new location of the database database

-Unistall Vcenter Server on your server

-Remove the ODBC if not erased by installation

-Create it again with the new location of the database

-Restart installing Vcenter Server and specify "use an existing database" and refer to the ODBC connector create just before

-To complete the installation and launch your Vcenter

Attention I have try this experiment with a 5 Vcenter environment.

I don't know if it works with 5.1

  • Migration from SQL Server to Oracle during 11.1.2.4 upgrade

    Hi all

To further expand on the title, wanted to check if it is possible to migrate from SQL Server to Oracle, while improving 11.1.2.1 to 11.1.2.4 on brand-new material. There is a change in all the components (s/w, h/w, RDBMS) so I wanted to run this generic statement by the forum to see what the experts think.

Where in the equation can count us on LCM?

I know that John Goodwin had already answered a few questions on the same subject for previous versions, but as 11.1.2.4 is a different game... I would be grateful if someone could share their thoughts.

    Thank you!

If you are installed on hardware costs and migration then it should be independent of the RDBMS. Not to say there is no problems with passing of 11.1.2.1 to 11.1.2.4 (if you use planning, for example, business rules-> Calc Manager) but they certainly should not be linked to the fact you've changed the underlying database.

  • Migrate from vCenter to a cluster of a nonclustered Member

Work on a new environment and I'm stuck with something sorta here. I have 3 guests, 2 are new material (r.620) and 1 is more old (1950). The 1950s was presented today, the R620s have been about 2 weeks now.

Now that the 1950's the mix so I created a new EVC cluster limited to Penryn, r.620 1950 and one are in the cluster. I want the other r.620 in the cluster, BUT my vCenter is running on it. Cannot migrate the vCenter for memebers cluster because it is exposed to the extensions of the processor beyond the limit of Penryn from the pole...

A little lost on what I can do here? Is there a 'stop invited, migrate to host X, boot prompt' type function I can use?

Assuming you are using a shared storage accessible from all hosts, vCenter Server VM power off, remove it inventory of the current host by connecting it directly to the host (using the vSphere client), and then connect to the host of the 'target', add the server vCenter back to inventory and turn it on.

There is no data for the endpoint collection... And I'm not entirely sure of how you added the vCenter object it... y at - it a calculation object named "vCenter? To answer your specific questions about the models, however, they must be stored on a cluster that is part of the tissue group for data collection to pick them up... They are not considered as a global entity (as a resource calculation). Add models to one of the clusters and then to collect data on it, and you should be fine.

  • migrate from vcenter host to another host ESXi while offline?

I need to move the virtual computers that host my vCenter and vCenter database to ESXi servers in another cluster, the new cluster uses CVS is not the case of the old Cluster. So I need to turn off two virtual machines to migrate them on.

Would this work and be the best method?

Stop vCenter and stop virtual machines for vCenter and the vCenter DB.

Log in to the old esx server and unregister the VM

    VMware-cmd - s unregister /vmfs/volumes/XXX-XXX/vcenter-db/vcenter-db.vmx
    VMware-cmd - s unregister /vmfs/volumes/XXX-XXX/vcenter/vcenter.vmx

Connect again esx Server (in the new cluster) and register VM

    VMware-cmd - s register /vmfs/volumes/XXX-XXX/vcenter-db/vcenter-db.vmx
    VMware-cmd - s register /vmfs/volumes/XXX-XXX/vcenter/vcenter.vmx

Connect again esx Server (in the new cluster) and start the virtual machines

    VMware-cmd /vmfs/volumes/XXX-XXX/vcenter-db/vcenter-db.vmx start
    VMware-cmd /vmfs/volumes/XXX-XXX/vcenter/vcenter.vmx start

No, you cannot vmotion - the virtual machines will be still low - will connect you directly to the ESXi hosts - unregister the form the old host vm - connect to the new host and redisster virtual machines to the new host and light - and remember cautious on the DB server first

  • Planning application migration from SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 2008.

We have a DB SQL Server 2005 to 2008.

Customer is underway for DB Upgrade only and not upgrade the Hyperion applications.

    Hyp version: 11.1.2.1

Components: Planning Hyp, EN and related services, ODI.

    I intend to

1 put level SQL Server side by side and not place

2 migrate Legacy applications on new server

If someone has done this before faced any problem? I see no any problem which should appear as a result of migration from 2005 to 2008 Server, but I wanted to be clear about this. How to plan the application will manage the change in DB.

Is there a method / recommended for this migration?

    Thank you

    Anjum

SQL Server upgrade does not impact on Hyperion.

If in the case of practice on different servers, I mean 2005 server 2008 Server, we have to configure again.

  • Migration cold vcenter server VM to another logical data center

    My version is 5.0

I have a vCenter with multiple logical datacenters.

I'm under vCenter on a virtual machine on a host in a datacenter.  The SQL Server with the vCenter database is on the same host.

I need to move the two virtual machines to a different host in another data center.

All LUNS are accessible from both hosts.

I'm under standard vSwitches, not distributed.   The vSwitches on each host have exact same exchanges that are put in place.

Can I migrate successfully cold other guests off the power, remove them from the inventory, save them with a new host and power back on.

However I'm not sure how to migrate the vCenter cold and SQL VMs.

My first thought was to turn off the power, connect the viClient directly to the guests in question and delete them from the inventory on the current host and save them to the new host.

What I don't know is if the vCenter database will have a problem with the location of the machine since I do change out vCenter.

    Any suggestions?

    Thank you

Welcome to the community - you thought initial is correct since migrate is a function of vcenter but Word of warning make sure that you select Remove flexible financing inventory and not delete from the disk - remove inventory will remove form VM guests of stocks without deleting the VM disk shape.

There will be no problem with access to the database-

  • Two vCenter - migration to vCenter Server 5

Hello world.  I have a vCenter Server 4.1 to exsiting v4.1u1 hosts and production/DEV Essentials Enterprise production management.

I want to build a new vCenter Server 5.  This new vCenter facility will also have the new databases and vcenter Update Manager, on a separate SQL Server.  I'm not worried about the loss of existing data as each of my existing hosts is also rebuilt to ESXi 5.

My question is about licensing.  On the this server vCenter, all my license keys are exhausted.  If I build a new server vCenter, how can I add my existing ESX/ESXi servers to the new server vCenter without licenses available?  I realize that if I remove Let's said ESX01 since the existing vCenter server, these licenses go back in the pool on SERVER.  If I can't add ESX01 on the new vCenter server, I used this same license key?  In other words, have the same active key on two vCenter servers, which are not connected or even the same version?

    Clear as mud right?

    Thanks for your time.

    -Dave

Using the same license key on both instances of vCenter server is actually the only way that you can migrate hosts on the new vCenter Server. I do not think that there is a problem of legal license if you disconnect a host of the "old" vCenter Server - releasing upward CPU licenses - and then assign the license to host again when you connect it to the new vCenter Server.

In regards to your first sentence. Probably, you break the EULA if you manage Essentials through an instance other than the Server vCenter vCenter server for Essentials.

  • Migration of vCenter server vm to incompatible cpu?

Our vCenter server and the SQL database running on a single virtual machine.  The data store is a SAN that is accessible to all the host ESX (i).

How can I migrate this VM to a new host ESX (i) if the processors are not compatible?  I suspect that this departure vMotion?

So far my research for this scenario have not find solutions.

    Hi HopeCollege,

Connect with VI Client for the ESXi that hosts the virtual machine of vCenter. Close it with elegance. Cancel the registration of the host, simply remove it from the inventory.

To connect to the destination ESXi with VI Client. Browse the data store and save the virtual machine of vCenter. Check the network configuration and all settings of the virtual machine. Finally start.

    Good luck.

  • Upgrade from vCenter Server 4 to vCenter 5 problems

I am trying to improve our server vCenter for ESXi 4.1 5. I ran the pre-upgrade and he reported no problems. After you have started the server vCenter 5 install received a message that it could not solve the COMPLETE computer domain name. I was connected under my auto (domain administrators) and could ping a domain FULL of my laptop. Is this an error message to the stop.

Then the installation wouldn't let me select the use of the local system for the Server service account. We have SQL 2008 installed on the server by using domain connections. At this point, I stopped the installation. Do I have to create a new domain account for the service and add it to SQL with SA privileges?

I have the downtime scheduled for this Monday finish the upgrade of our vCenter Server.

    Todd lemmiksoo

I recently came across the error "could not resolve field FULL of computer name", and which has proved to be a wrong PTR record in the reverse lookup zone. If there is an incorrect or missing PTR record, which could lead to this error.

You can consult the VMware Virtual Center Server service on your existing installation of vCenter to see which account is used on the tab log now? If it is not currently using the Local System account, you may need to use the account specified on the screen during the upgrade. If now it uses the Local System account, I don't know what to tell you on this subject.
