Migration from old to new SAN SAN

Hello. I was hoping someone could point me to a white paper or a procedure for Dell because I don't think that this is a rare situation.

I have a PS6500 I need moved to a new PS6210. I use VMware with three hosts and I need the whole kit and the shebang to the new San. All procedures out there so I'm not reconstruct the pieces of suggestions of online?

Thanks in advance,

Hello

There is no procedure formal whitepaper that it pulled out of the basic features of the PS Series table.  The ability to add/remove members to a live band.

The 6500 will need to be updated at least 7.1.x firmware before trying to add in the 6210.  The 6210 is likely to 8.x firmware.  If so, you must upgrade the 6500 to 8.1.14.

You'll want to create a temporary pool for the 6210.  I.e. "maint".   When you add in the 6210, it will be in the default pool.  Before you set the RAID policy, move the 6210 in the pool "maint".  When you select the Member, it invites you to configure the RAID, select No.  The menu in the middle of the screen will be "move Member".   Select, then you will see the pool "maint" you have created.  What to choose.  Now the 6210 is assigned to this pool.   Configure the other network interface, and then select the desired Member RAID policy.  Leave the RAID to finish the construction.   If you have not already set it to update the 6210 at least 8.1.14 now would be a good time to do so.  In addition, the latest version of the software is 9.0.

If at this point you have two choices.  You can create volumes on the 6210 Member, format it with VMFS and use storage vMotion to migrate the virtual machines.   Alternatively, you can merge two pools together.  In the graphical interface under "Storage Pools", there is an option "merge pools".   Select the pool "maint" and when you select Merge pools, it will show the available pools to move it to.    The move will appear in the moment.  However, in the background, the space is balanced on to the 6210.  According to the amount of space in use, to move it could take some time.

So if you have taken the first choice, once you have all the data passing above, you can remove this member.  Select the 6500, right of the mouse and select 'Remove member' ' this table will be reset to the factory and removed from the group settings.

If you have merged the pools, once the space is balanced, you will create a new pool.  'temp' for example.  The select the 6500, right 'move the Member' of the mouse and select the pool "temp".   This will push the remaining data on 6500 the 6210.   Once the move is completed, use the option 'Remove member' to remove.

Question: The 6210 is able 10GbE, you're going to be running to 10GbE?

Kind regards

  • Migrate ESX hosts to new SAN array

    Hello

Our company has bought a new SAN storage array and we are looking for an overview on the migration of our ESX SAN infrastructure existing to the new array with minimal downtime. Currently, we use EMX DMX and will migrate to EMC Clariion.

I thought that we could present the new table to the ESX host and then use SVMotion to move on the virtual machine, and then once we are full and everything is well, remove the old array. I don't know what the best solution practice to it would be...?

Currently, we are on ESX 3.5 U2 in all areas.

This sounds like a good idea? Any help is very appreciated!

    Thank you!

    -Mike

It is exactly what you need to do.

    1. present LUNS of size equal to or greater than those on the existing table.

2 format LUNS as VMFS data new warehouses.

3 Svmotion VMs of new data warehouses.

    4. wait for a whille and ensure that everything is fine and then delete the old warehouses of data.

Try Palemoon browser it is same as Firefox but 64-bit and with search engine Duckandgo. Another difficulty which may require older Firefox is to copy and paste the json from your bookmark backups. Firefox keeps a backup copy of your bookmarks on your PC.
Or you can simply navigate to the json file you need (they are marked with the date of backup) and restore. Here is the link for the instructions to restore. Note: you can use these instructions to migrate your office to Palemoon too.

  • Migrate from old apppliance DMM to a new appliance DMM

    Hi Netpos,

I was assigned to the next task: I need to install and configure a new DMM and SNS for updating version 5.3 (since the old servers could have been updated only up to 5.2.2).

My concern is related to the content (layout of the presentations, parameters, timetable etc.) of existing devices.

Will there be a way to migrate content to the new devices?

    Hi Panayotis,

It is currently not supported for the DMM/SNS backup configuration and content of a material model and restore them on a model of different material.

A full migration of the legacy of DMM again hardware option, it is still in the plans, but is not available. I recommend you follow it with your team counts Cisco in order to stay up to date on the plan.

  • From old and new details of triggering of a procedure or a generic function

    Hi all.

I have an obligation to transmit all the old and new of a database trigger column information (for the purposes of this discussion, it will be a front line, insert, update and delete trigger) a procedure/function (either is fine).

My first thought was to create a separate routine for each table, I want to implement this, which has a new and old input parameter for each column, but I realized that I needed a solution where the called routine should be generic (because we'll let other developers call the same routine and we do not want that they have to create their own version of the table).

This is a problem because I want to implement this on all the tables could have a completely different columns (and dataypes). The called routine will operate under a pragma autnonmous_transaction (as will happen is committed) so I need to move all of the fields in all at once.

Another idea I had was to create an object of type (potentially) 300 generic fields that I assign the values to the and pass as a parameter, however I never know before hand what types of data are needed, CLOB, DATE, VARCHAR, etc...

I can anyone has any ideas on how achieve this with a generic routine?

    Kind regards
    Greg.

    Greg Block wrote:
The called routine will do a lot of work, writing more than to connect the tables.

Then I would be seriously concerned by using autonomous transactions. Are you sure you understand all the consequences of this? What happens if the appellant transaction is cancelled, for example, while your work is committed. Are you sure that will never make the system is in an inconsistent state. Are you sure that your routine will never be on the work engaged by the appellant transaction which will be more visible to the autonomous transaction? Are you sure you're never going to generate blockages with the parent transaction?

  • Planning the migration from DAS to iscsi SAN

    Hello

We have a physical server running 6 VM ESX 3.5 (1 win SBS 2003 and linux 5) local SAS disks

    It's a 2xquad core clocked at 2.66 GHz dell

now, let's add a second physical server (dell 2xquad core at 2.5 Ghz) and an ISCSI SAN: we would like to install ESXi on the second server and move all VMs on iscsi storage, so if the first server goes down in a few minutes we can manually set up the other to run all virtual machines (we are a small company and at present cannot afford the company/vmotion license).

I ask for advice because we would virtualize an old physical terminal so win2003 Server (with 10-15 users, mainly working with MS office applications) using the second new physical server.

This is the first time that we install a SAN (it's a dell MD300i with 10 disks 146 GB SAS, 5-disc SATA 1 TB for backup and snapshots) and we want to get the best performance out of it. Read the other posts, I understand that the discs are very important in a server virtualization terminal server and having good performance out of it.

So, with this type of SAN and our workload, we should define a unique group of 5disk RAID with 9 discs and 1 hot spare, with a large ramdisk on it to create one or more data VMFS stores?

or is it better to create 2 disk groups:

-1 with two RAID1 disks for terminal server VM

-1 with seven discs RAID5 for all other VM

with a global hot spare disk?

other general suggestions for migration, we will do?

    Thanks in advance

    Guido

Yes, it's what I would do.

  • Migrated from old Windows XP laptop to laptop new Windows 8. Bookmarks, passwords, custom settings are missing?

We bought a new laptop to Windows 8. I used Windows Easy Transfer to transfer data from the old laptop to the new laptop. Now, my wife, saved bookmarks passwords and other custom settings do not appear on the new laptop.

I do not know if Windows Easy Transfer actually migrated my wife Firefox profile. Where is it stored on the new laptop?

How can I migrate manually the profile from the old computer to the new computer?

I don't know anything about Windows 8 but if you have Firefox installed and running there is a simple method to find your profile: let Firefox for you using the option of troubleshooting as explained in this article

I imagine that the profile of your wife should be in a similar situation to yours, but under a different username.

To migrate manually the profile overwrite just the default profile existing your wife in Windows 8 with the complete profile folder and files of XP. For more details on how to do and more general information please see:

  • Change from old to new

I have my old Mac book pro 2007, which I'm trying to retire.  I bought a used 2011 Mac book pro and a tb sshd to put in it.  Can I clone my old 2007 Snow Leopard - place on the 1 TB sshd, then put it in the used Mac 2011 & update?

Depends on. If it is a model of end 2011, then it cannot be started by a system of Snow Leopard. If it is before the end of 2011, so it can be started from Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or from the original installation DVD program that accompanies new. You must put the old drive in an external enclosure to clone the most recent disc or be able to connect the two using a Firewire cable. Cloning could be done using target disk Mode.

Otherwise, do not clone anything. Install the original OS on the newest disc in the newer computer. Then simply transfer the user account with the Migration Wizard.

Perfect, now you can simply install the ssd and run drives. The optical drive in the BIOS as first boot and reboot, it will start the recovery without F11 etc...

Yes, I actually prefer a clean install of Windows instead of using the recovery discs. This means a new pure system and I can not install anything (from HP or elsewhere), I want because applications such as HP Support Assistant do more harm than good. However, I always use the HP Wireless Assistant. Make sure you have saved all the necessary drivers (it is in a folder called SWSETUP) or at least you know which device is real and download the drivers later the site of home of HP laptop.
