Migration Oracle RAC to the new data center

Hi all

We are 'legacy' Oracle 11 G RAC cluster from another company and I am looking for a way to migrate with the minimum of downtime. Our team has no CARS, nor database administrator Oracle also experience.

We intend to test the migration by cloning the environment a few weeks before and just see if everything is OK.

Question is, what is the best way to migrate this RAC cluster and it's data to a new data center? Reinstallation of the operating system (Linux) and recreate the RAC cluster are not an option I want to examine.

For example, in the land of SQL Server, we can use sending newspapers or replication to keep a copy of the database in the new data center as close as possible direct database (data-wise). Date of commissioning, we stop the direct instance, run last restore log or something else, then set up the databases on the new data center.

Thanks in advance.

Data Guard. It is the name of "log shipping" feature Oracle. It's probably closer to always on SQL Server availability groups, except that the Oracle database is a large group.

I speak not Active Data Guard which is an extra cost that gives options on top of Data Guard.

HTH,

Brian

    Hi all

I want to migrate to a display of a new data center environment in a different physical location.

I like to keep the original ip addresses and FQDNs.

Is it best practice for this type of migration methods?

I have two drivers, composer, brokers security server, 160 related clones with persistent records.

We do not have a connection in fiber between the sites, so cannot perform a rebalancing.

You can use something like veeam vSphere replication to copy virtual machines to the other site and then just turn the 'old' off the coast and the new ones on. Your biggest problem will be changing hosts. Only other option might be to physically move the old hardware to the new site. Persistent drives will be a pain. • Moving cluster in the new data center in virtual Center.

    Hi all

I want to store my virtual Center layout. To do this, I want to move an existing cluster that exists on another physical site in a newly created in the virtual data center. When I try to move the existing cluster object, I get an error saying "the operation is not supported on the object.

This does mean that I have to create a cluster and move the hosts one at a time, or is there a way to move the real cluster?

    Thanks in advance.

You have to re-create the cluster indeed. Logout of the host, and then add the host to the new cluster.

  • Moving Cluster to new data center and move ASM Lun

    Hello

My question is for an upcoming project. We want to grow our three existing node on our other data Center cluster. Servers will be moved and would re - ip, but Oracle, CRS and ASM houses remain intact.

We have our ASM on EMC Clariion disks. The idea is to use EMC Replication Manager to replicate the LUNS on EMC Clarion in the other data center and to present them to the cluster.

My question is if it looks like a valid plan, or I think to simplistic?

Will keep it even replicated LUN the ASM disk identity and data in order to be recognized and available in start?

In addition, in order to minimize downtime, we want to move a single node of the cluster first, then others do appear later.

    Thanks for your opinions.

    Hello

To replicate ASMDISK success, all databases in the Diskgroup must be down or in backup mode.
Replication starts with the online database (IE database in backup mode hot) needs attention, because all data/redo/controlfile files will be copied in use (i.e. corrupt), be necessary will perform database recovery.

I think that you already have this doc, but I write anyway.

    The plan seems good.

  • How can I find out who created a new data center or virtual?

Is there a specific log file?  I'm trying to find out who created a new data center and some VM.

The events are not stored in a file, but are stored in the database of vCenter in the VPX_EVENT table. The creation of a data center is a vim.event.DatacenterCreatedEvent in the EVENT_TYPE column. The user who has created are in the USERNAME column. The name of the data center is in the DATACENTER_NAME column. Time of creation is in the CREATE_TIME column.

I tried to create and delete a data center and after removing it, I could always find events in the database.

  • Copy of VM to the new data store

I need to copy an existing virtual machine to one datatstore to the other, initially, I thought that I would be able to register to the VM, clone the virtual machine and then unregister the virtual machine.

Unfortunately the VM I will be copying is the virtual Center VM and therefore this action must be carried out while it is connected to a host and cloning is a feature of VC.

Is the best method to use the New-TkeDatastoreDirectory and TkeDatastoreFile-copy to copy these through to the new data store?  I think I read earlier that it does not work or is very slow for large VMDK files?

    Thank you

  • How to migrate Office persistent link clones of workstations for the new data store

Hello. We have clones of persistent link to view running in the environment from our view. We need to migrate these desktops to new storage. Rebalancing is out as this will include a refresh operation - destroy anything and everything installed in c:\ of the user. Is there a method to migrate Desktop clone link persistent to a new data store, while keeping the office in the same exact state (i.e. c:\ is not updated).

    Thank you

Never say impossible. I came across the solution when I read the article by Duncan Epping:

    http://www.yellow-bricks.com/2012/03/15/Dr-of-view-persistent-linked-clone-desktops/

I have that for my situation. Basically, replicate data from view in the new storage warehouses. Set up data warehouses replicated without re-signing with the cluster of ESXi. Turn the power off and unsubscribe the vCenter view workstations. Save the workstations from the data store replicated/mounted to vCenter and power over desktop computers.

VCenter, nothing dramatic has happened if she sees just as vm being unregistered and re-recorded activity from the same exact data store (the same UUID). View Admin is happy because he sees just the events as desktop computers that have been turned off and then subsequently in reverse. Nothing has changed regarding the database to view ADAM, we still use the same data warehouses.

I have already tested before for a scenario of View DR, and he succeeded. Between remembering who and Duncan's article helped me to adapt the same process for this. Nothing is impossible

  • NFS share for one (1) added when adding to a new host in the existing data center

I'm sure it's a simple answer, but I've been beating my head on the wall, trying to find a solution. The scenario is as follows:

1 Vcenter has several hosts in different groups. All built at the same time with a NFS share that is shared among all.

    2. I add a new host to the data center (I tried independently and also added to a cluster as well).

    3. the new host sees its local disk as a data store, as expected, but I have to add the shared NFS datastore.

    4. at the level of the host, I go to configuration-storage-add storage and the NFS share.

It shows and normal with NFS (1) as the name. I can't rename it as it says THAT NFS already exist. I understand that there are in the vcenter DB, but how to add this new host or host an existing environment and maintain the name of the NFS share? vCenter 5.5, 5.5 esxi

    Thanks for your help

  • Turning to Oracle RAC to the only Oracle database

    Hi all

We are responsible for "make a copy" of Oracle RAC database a customer and our plan is to finish with the FCAC and allows you to host a new unique Oracle database. Very few of us familiar with CARS and looking for suggestions on how to do it (without affecting the source JAR).

Can take a full expdb of the source database and simply use impdp to import into the standalone database server?

    Comments/suggestions appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

Can take a full expdb of the source database and simply use impdp to import into the standalone database server?

It is an option. Data pump does not care if the source and/or destination is CARS or a mix. If the database is too large, it can take a lot of time to complete.

Another option is to use the DOUBLE of RMAN feature. And another option is to restore the database from a backup.

    See you soon,.

  • Migrate Oracle RAC 10 g 32-bit to 64-bit machine cold sauvegardΘ

    Hi people,

For the moment I list possible migration strategies and one of the options I'm considering is to stop the Oracle 10 g 32-bit RAC on the 32-bit computer and copy data files to another machine 64-bit (oracle 10 g 64 bit RAC installed). Given that I have currently is the test installation available (will) be available later on this month, I would like to know if it is interesting to explore this method was further.

The documentation I've found is to a single node (http://docs.oracle.com/html/B13831_01/ap_64bit.htm#CHDCDAGE) - someone has already tried this for a cluster of more?

    Thank you...

Even if it of the CAR or not RAC, in my view, the tasks of database are same

    (1) set cluster_database = false
    (2) upgrade start
    (3) $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin/utlirp.sql
    (4) start normally
    (5) run ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin/utlrp.sql

  • PowerCLI script to migrate virtual machines to the new vCenter environment

    Hello world

in the next few weeks, we need about migrate 700 VMs (Windows/Linux) server to a new environment (new vCenter, new hosts, but VMs will remain on same data warehouses). VMs will be migrated not in one batch, but rather from time to time (which, however, can understand the need to migrate some 10s of virtual machines at the same time).

Cluster names and folder structure will be identical to the old and the new vCenters. As host in the new vCenter names differ from those in the old vCenter, thought to provide a table of 'translation', which tells the script to save a given VM on host B (new vCenter) when having been registered in order to host a (old vCenter) and so on.

I thought writing a PowerCLI script which, broadly speaking, can accomplish the following steps:

    • Connect to vCenterOld and vCenterNew
    • Correspondence table of host to read from a file (see step "register VM vCenterNew below)

    Then, in a loop:

    • Ask VM name
    • Get the settings of the virtual machine: Datastore/path, network/Portgroup, HA restart priority, host, folder, note
    • View the parameters and the VM name and request confirmation migrate the virtual machine
    • Turn off VM (closed OS gracefully, but force power off if power status is still not equal 'off' after a time given)
    • To unsubscribe from VM vCenterOld (removal of inventory)
    • Registry of the VM to the data store vCenterNew (assumptions: same folder as vCenterOld, host names are different, but for each source in vCenterOld host a host of destination in vCenterNew for you join the virtual machine to can be provided, that is, CSV)
    • The value of VM portgroup (same name as in vCenterOld)
    • Set VM HA restart priority
    • PowerON VM
    • Wait / check the VM (for example, ping) connectivity / continue immediately if the virtual machine is accessible or after a certain time if the virtual machine is still inaccessible
    • Confirm that the virtual machine has been migrated successfully, OR ask the user to check the connectivity of the virtual machine

    Now to my questions:

    • Is anyone know about an existing script that does something similar or contains parts that can be useful to compile a script like this?
    • How can vCenter two connections at the same time been managed within a PowerCLI script - or doesn't work at all and a connect/disconnect to/from the two vCenters must be completed for each virtual computer?

    Many thanks for any help.

The following seems to work for me

    $vm = Get-VM -Name MyVM$nic = Get-NetworkAdapter -VM $vm $vdPG = $nic | select -ExpandProperty NetworkName

    Get-VDPortgroup -Name $vdPG

  • migration of user to the new environment of horizon profile view

Hello, we have a new environment of horizon view during the installation of hardware new and ready to go

at the moment we saw 5.1 in production. 5.1 environment is configured with dedicated workstations + user data disks. the windows profile is redirected to the user data disk. We also have records of the location of desktop and my documents redirection to a cifs share.

We must abandon our users to the new environment with minimum disruption of our EBU end (IE not re - create profiles). We also want to integrate the management of persona in the new environment of horizon view.

no indication on how to better accomplish the migration would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

    -charlie

With regard to the use of Windows and persona profiles that should be pretty simple migration.  I had a similar situation, and the first thing I would do is to configure persona in your GPOS.  You can use the existing path or create a new path in there is an option for "Override Active Directory chemin_profil_utilisateur if it is set."   Alternatively, you can make the folder redirection with persona at the same location. Again, I would set up your GPOS with the same settings you use for roaming profiles and folder redirection, then remove the old GPO and implement the new persona profiles.  I've lived without interruption of service, but you may need to do a global gpupdate/force on the clients.

  • Move VM vcenter to the new data store

    Hello

I have a cluster with 2 data warehouses and I must "empy"one for then reassign the disks on the SAN. " However I seem to be in a situation of catch-22 virtual machines, I need to move/migrate is the VM vCenter. I need to have propelled him down to move the data store, but then I have no way related to migration. I presume that this requires a manual move/copy of the vCenter VM file to a data to another store, but not sure of the consequences etc..

    THX

    Gerry

Since you are using a business license you can Storage vMotion, VM of for the new store of data without any stop.

Select VM-> click on migrate-> select change Datastore Option
