  I am the proud owner of a HP Mini 1000 mi, and I must say, so far I've been very happy with it, except for a few small issues.  The main problem is the audio quality, I can understand the speakers being weak and must use that they are quite acceptable, but when I'm in a public space and I like to be able to use the helmet, for some reason the audiojack has very, very poor audio quality.  Even with a pair of bose headphones, there is absolutely no bass, sounds almost exactly the same built-in speakers, I tried to test a pair of headphones usb audio and a pair of usb speakers, but they were not correctly recognized and I did not want to spend a lot of time trying to get them running. I think that audio problems may not be a hardware problem, but rather a software one, a form of filtering audio to do his best on the small speakers remaining filter the bass even in the audio output.  Can someone give me some advice on what to try?  Any ideas would be great, thanks!

  Good tip!  I found your posts very useful.

  I was experiencign the same problem and seem to be sorted. I started on a Live CD of Linux (Ubuntu 8.10) and the sound was perfect, so I knew that it was not a hardware problem. I tried to call the HP support but lacked at the time and he doesn't go anywhere.  Armed with the tips in your post, I restarted in OS of HP and made the following:

  (1) hit: Alt - F2

  (2) type: gnome-terminal

  (3) at the command prompt: sudo apt - get remove idt-alsa-eq-plugin

  (4) after that the packages are removed, type exit to close the terminal

  (5) reboot

  At this point, for me, the sound was normal.  (Well, the speaker has still no - bottom, but at least the headphone jack works well.)

  You are finished.

  If you wish, you can always cancel the foregoing in following:

  (1) hit: Alt - F2

  (2) type: gnome-terminal

  (3) at the command prompt: sudo apt - get install idt-alsa-eq-plugin

  (4) after that the packages are removed, type exit to close the terminal

  (5) reboot

  Hope that helps!  Take advantage of the Mini.

  Update of the post: I initially also recommended the removal of the package: idt-alsa-aec-plugin.  Sohier stressed that he is innocent and that idt-alsa-eq-plugin is the only culprit.

  OK, after a few tries, the solution is now obvious!

  The pinout of the connector 4-pole Combo does not follow the AV cable (standard), where the body of the plug is on the ground

  It's more like the Canon AV Cable camcorder where the Ring2 is the Foundation and the body is the Mic (video on the Canon cable). Below specified connections to work perfectly:

  4 pole socket Headphone jack. MIC Jack                          

  Trick trick (left Audio)

  1 ring (right Audio)

  Ring 2                                   Body                               Body

  Body                                                                             Tip + Ring

  Make sure that you use a 4-pole plug bodied plastic because the body is the Mic (Live) connection and could cause interference if touched

  Ok:

  If the driver is installed, but the device has a problem.

  What you can try is to uninstall the device (right click on it and select uninstall), then reboot and install this driver and see if that fixes the problem.

  Why is the webcam on the mini 1000 very dark.

  THE POSITION of FINAL SOLUTION (Please paste this into the first page)

  With all due Respect, this thread is turning into a hell hole of misinformation.   There is a massive confusion on two simple solutions to this problem.

  THE PROBLEM: HP designed this for a webcam webcam 'outdoors' by affixing a piece of dark, tinted 1 cm x 1 cm of Ribbon in front of the web cam, behind the screen overlay.  These shades the video extremely dark in all conditions except in natural light of the Sun.

  #1 SOLUTION: install the software that allows you to control the brightness/gamma.  If you increase both, your image will be slightly higher. Software options include (scroll to previous pages for links) Skype, MSMessenger, controls integrated Windows Movie and the HP Webcam Driver free (linked to the page 1 or 2).  THIS SOLUTION IS NOT A SOLUTION.  IT IS A MINOR SOLUTION AND YOUR WEBCAM WILL LOOK STILL DARK AND GRAINY, but it will be a little clearer.  HERE IS a LINK to THE OFFICIAL HP driver which is free and allows control of the brightness/gamma.  It's a quick download and easy installation.  Yet once this is only a partial solution: the official HP camera settings: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp35001-35500/sp35414.exe

  SOLUTION #2: it's the only real solution.  Just open the top of your screen (it's super easy to make and the screen is designed to be opened and closed).  Take a pair of pliers, tweezers and remove stained tape that causes all the problems.  Problem is fixed at 100%. I do not understand why why so many people are so adamant against trying this.  This isn't major surgery.  You literally pop open the display (no screws or anything necessary), and you take a pair of tweezers and pluck a piece of thin ribbon.  That's all.  The unit will work perfectly without additional software or hardware changes.

  Note that you can do both.  #2 solution will fix the problem of obscurity.  #1 sOlution will give you more controls.  My suggestion is to carry out the withdrawal from the Strip to solve the problem of dark camera, and then install the driver of HP to give you even more control camera.

  UNLESS YOU HAVE A NEWER SOLUTION, MORE INNOVATIVE TO THE PROBLEM, PLEASE DO NOT POST THE SAME THING MORE AND MORE ONLY SAYING ILS ARE A NEW SOLUTION.

• HP Mini 1000 XP loss of disk space!

  I have the HP Mini 1000 XP base model and love it.  I use Norton Internet Security, iTunes and Picasa 3.  But for some reason, I lose local C: drive disk space.  At this moment I have about 500 MB.  I was at 90 MB (!) before a little lower, I read a tip on the Web to set the parameters of system restore.  Which I did and got immediately bumped upward to the high lombardo.  But I still seem to lose space weekly.  I always remove my itunes and photos Picasa downloads.  I also delete cookies and temporary internet files on all three weeks.  And I defragmented/compressed disk, but who did not have much.  Java keeps asking me to download and install the new update and I'm like "NO!  I'm getting a more slightly obsessive on my MB.  My space can be upgraded?  If so, how?  Are there ways to find hidden files?  Maybe what I deleted was not, even if I saw them in the trash.  Another that the question of space, I love my Mini - and feel that I should get a tip for all potential customers, I'm headed your way!    I thank very you much for your help and advice!

  A very easy solution is to set the min and max paging file to 1024 MB (1 GB), which is a lot. You could even go to 768 or 512 in my opinion a little more extra space. Right now, you have a dynamic (changeable) paging file that is larger than necessary. Define the number that is now 1500 something and the number which is now 3000 something 1024 768 or 512; apply and restart. You should immediately have an extra concert half or more space, then. Setting the pagefile on a fixed number, it is also a fairly well-known performance tweak that helps the computer run a little faster.

  If you are looking for *.jpg (wildcard for all images), you can be sure that you see all the pictures on the hard drive.

  I have a HP mini 1000 with Ubuntu installed on it.  I tried to use the microphone, but it does not work...  I don't know if she just because I do not have the right drivers, or it's broken...  So I wonder where I could find the right drivers (or if there is a fix), or weather I should just send it to get fixed.
