  Someone please help! I am an intermediate user and I can't get windows update to work since December 4. I was on youtube and what you clicked on a link under a video, a Malware Removal window skipped upward and before I could do anything he disappeared since this happened, windows update does not work, (not KB972696) (error 80072efe code). How can I return update still works once, then update of Defender and system restore points?

• Hardware changes not detected using a flash drive, the missing, system restore points tried every fix that MS can offer in Windows 7

  All of a sudden, I have several problems with my computer.  I can't not computer to recognize a flash drive.  Printer works in the same usb port.  I used Device Manager, checked the drivers, made every difficulty that MS has to offer, each difficulty that Dell can offer, but the problem remains.  I don't feel uncomfortable so I don't have to play with the registry.  I uninstalled the drivers and rebooted.  The only changes that I did before this happened was to uninstall and reinstall I-tunes.  The flash drive, I use would be defective?  When I went to the system restore, my restore points have disappeared, that was the point where I uninstalled I-tunes.  I also noticed that when I tried to detect problems with the resolution of the problems of hardware and devices, it says "material changes may not have been detected.  In detail, it also shows "there is no configured windows in a way never install driver - edition".  WHAT?  I know that windows IS configured to automatically install.  (Deep breath)

  1. What is the model of your Dell computer?
  2. that all measures tried on your own to fix this?
  3 have you tried to test the flash drive on another computer to see if it is faulty?
   
  This problem arises usually when the flash drive is faulty or the chipset drivers are in conflict with the USB drivers.  I recommend you to consult the following Microsoft article and check.

• Windows Xp Sp3 System Restore Points in the process of disappearance

  Without warning my system restore points are missing.

  I checked all the obvious reasons (lack of disk space, etc.)

  I can always put a manually restore point, but when I do it disappears the next time and I'm back to a restore point

  I just got the 'volume' down on my percentage for RPs to 200 MB space and he killed all of them except the last RP.

  Then (although SR was always open) I did a new PR and there were two in the calendar.  Then I did another and there were three...

  Then I closed SR and began again and only the last one (number 3) was still there and the other two had been killed.

  Did you present your cursor percentage of volume, right?  If this isn't the case, you should at least try.

Recently, a malfunction of Windows at startup caused my father reboot the system to a previous system restore point. (He says it was one of several options at startup.) Everything seems to work fine now except that I seem to have lost a critical update Windows downloaded after the restore point, Windows Update Agent 7.6.7600.256. Still, there are in my Windows update history and is listed as "installed successfully", but when I check my updates installed, it is absent. Also, when I try to search for updates installed, I get a message indicating that Windows is up-to-date. I can't uninstall the update and re - install because it is missing from my list of installed updates. So I guess that the re-start to a previous system restore point has put this important WIndows update in limbo. How can ensure me that this update is installed correctly and working properly?

  Absolutely, because based on that you are running the latest version of the Windows Update Agent and have the last update to it.

  I had problems restore XP on the computer of a friend.  I can't after installing SP3, a question that will be asked in a separate post.

  In an effort to not having to do a full system recovery on the computer in question, with this latest attempt to recover the operating system and install all updates, I started the creation of restore points for the system after each step, I took to get things running and upward.

  And that is, after installing SP3, with installation fails and then going back until the restoration of the system to an earlier configuration, I found none of the points longer existed the system restore.   :-(

  I'm sorry for the late reply to your post, but I removed the weekend baby a bad back that makes me mad.

  I'll try to put your comments in quotes, with my response immediately after, flea.

  The hard drive is 160 GB.  The car had 2 partitions, the recovery partition.  Before reinstalling everything from scratch, I've used Easeus Partition Manager Home Edition to create a 3rd partition to move the original data of C:\ drive to your new partition so my friend can sort files and keep it as he and his family want and discard the rest.  I just copy everything that I can, because I don't know who, what, and where they have stored files.  I actually found a file stored in the recovery partition, but I moved it.

  • Read the KB article.  To make sure that we are on the same page, I get "system drive" means C:\.
  • Lack of free space should not be a problem.  C:\ is 32 GB, 10.1 GB used.  D:\ is 111 GB, GB used 21.2.  E:\ is 5.98 GB, used 5.00.  E: is the recovery Partition.
  • No disk compression
  • Did not display the warnings system restore.
  • I do not turn off System Restore fo any player.

  • When I started to have problems, I simply started from scratch with a Destructive Restore process.  When I'm really frustrated after several failures, I started looking for a quicker way to get back to a point just before I installed SP3 and found this KB.  After that, it was the safe boot mode and using the Control Panel Add/Remove programs to remove the SP3.  And I got very, very familiar with the process!   Laughing out loud

  • Other Easeus Partition Manager, I never got far enough along to try any other third party software.  My "modus operandi" is updated completely OS and Internet Explorer before I install any other software and update it.  However, with the idea of the recovery Partition, do not not the software isn't an option.

  • I learned long ago, the days of 8-bit, unless there is a real hardware failure, almost all computer problems can be tracked to a human being.

  Step 1: Start Windows backup and Volume shadow copy services
  a. Click Start, type services.msc and press to enter.
  b. in the list of issues, double click Windows backup and Volume shadow copy services.
  c. change the startup type to automatic and click on the Start button.
  d. click ok to apply the changes.

  Step 2: Run SFC (System File Checker) scan to find and repair missing or corrupt system files and check the result. To do this, try the following steps:

  I think that you can't remove already created restore points ignore them. If your laptop is set correctly now I recommend you to create your own restore point and you will know which is the right one.

  Always ensure that backups and restore points are not placed in the HP_Recovery partition. It is usually the d: drive.

  Sometimes my system restore points disappear and I have learned to rely on them.  I heard that defragmentation can erase the system - something to do with the Windows shadow copy service restore points.  Is there a safe way to defragment a hard drive (internal or external) WITHOUT losing any system restore points: both those created manually as well as automatically created?   I really thank you goes out all the time and difficulties that you have not only to explain my problem but at the arrive at a solution that has worked for you.  I already read the CNET critical user of and download Ultimate Defrag, but have not yet installed it because I have a few questions that may be critical to my getting the same wonderful performance you met.  Not wanting to - by my own ignorance - replace one problem with another, can I ask if you know where I can find these answers? :

  (1) my PC has 1 G of RAM an and a Pentium 4 processor, a desktop Dell 8 years.  Have I not enough resources for the programme of work?

  (2) I have two internal HDs - a bunch of 80 G and 40 G Data - with a 1 t external for backups.  Will I be possible to defragment one at a time so that a period of 8 hours at night will give the app some time to run and complete - especially the first time I use it on every HD?

  (3) a review mentions a setting from the default installation for those who have my knowledge minimum tech. Is it choose a wise move in my case? I only will give non-essential options or options I'd understand even when doing this?

  (4) I need to turn off WinPatrol (Start Menu Manager) and install my Avast AV in addition to all the normal precautions for cleaning?

  (5) should I disconnect from the internet before installing (I have a shortcut on the desktop that allows me to turn off my DSL modem)?

  (6) can the program itself or its installer to run in Mode safe and which is preferred? Of course, I would create a prior restore point I have restart mode without failure.

  (7) a critic says that the 50-page help document is of no use to someone with my limited knowledge. Is there a training video or another type of help?

  If I have already imposed on you enough, perhaps some other experienced users could help answer the above?

  How to record the system restore point/data files to the remote storage device. for example, CD? Why... I need to run ID or remove malicious software programs on PC. To completely clean, I need to disable System Restore which will remove all the old system restore points. I want malware recovery option, if necessary, in my opinion.  Ask also procedure - how to restore the files to restore the system from the CD for PC?   For a multitude of reasons, I don't want to go through the hassle of the old image restore, reinstall windows XP, etc. to "work around" malware / problems of virus, or remuneration mcafee $90 to 'fix' my PC for 5 days.

  Sorry, but you can't do that. Instead, you can picture the system with a program like Acronis True Image Home and save this image on an external hard drive. After getting the system cleaned (or if you decide to do a clean install), you can use True Image to make an image of your own system and also imagery incremental backup for your restore image is always up to date.

  BTW, I do not recommend disable the system restore first during the cleaning of a machine. Leave it on and then turn it off then clear on the old Restore Points, turning it back on.

  There may be several reasons for the restoration of the system do not have to work.

  1. If you are using Norton, disable it before using the system restore.

• No System Restore Point, then how to return to a system update before?

  Windows has completed an update and my task bar is back to an older version, changed color and left me with an old start button (grr!), more my Sidebar is now completely opaque, whereas previously it was translucent. For some reason, there is no system restore point to go back to a system update before, and I am not allowed to create a system for yesterday restore point, so, how do I fix these errors?  Obviously these defects are not affecting performance, but given that I'm a bit OCD, they cause some irritation. : O
