Missing topics when compiling HTML Help

I have written and maintain support systems for both products in RoboHelp 5.0. Each has compiled fine in WinHelp 4 years format. When I compile one of them in HTML Help format (.chm file), and then double-click the .chm file to open it, the summary and Index seem to be filled correctly, but I can't open a topic when I double-click on a in the table of contents or the Index. The heading window remains empty. I think I should be able to open the .chm file that is independent of any application and open all the subjects that it contained, just like I can with a .hlp file.

I'd be able to have access to all of my subjects (about 2,000 indexed and contextual 650) simply by double-clicking the .chm file? Are there specific project settings, that I need to set in a specific way to get HTML help to include all topics? Another thing I might be dominant?

Hi pgcalc and welcome to our community

I guess that you can run the. CHM from a local network? (Network)

If so, take a look at this link.

  • Is there a limit on the length of the path when compiling HTML Help?

I "ve been pulling my hair out on these days because I have a project that has been compiling fine, but when I created a branch in RoboSource and checked and tried to compile I get an unexpected error Microsoft HTML compiler." I looked and looked for find what could be different. Today when reading messages, (thanks to all who post here problems and solutions) I came across something regarding referencing a file that is too deep in the tree. Made me reflect on the directory names. So, I changed the location of the compilation to a place higher in the tree and it compiled.

Anyone know if there is a limit on the path where the .chm file is built, and if so, what that limit is?

    Thank you

    Nita

    Hi Nita.

I don't know that anyone has definitely found a good limit that you found along the paths can be a problem. I guess that it is 255 characters as this figure appears elsewhere. As a general rule, I try and keep my ways of project as short as possible, even shorten the directory names where possible.

  • Fonts missing error when compiling.

I use the Output Designer 5.7. For presentment targets I PDF more all HP PCL5 and PCL6 most all printers Xerox PCL5, except that I removed targets Asian presentment. When I compile I get messages on the fonts of various sizes of Arial to Arial 10 pt. These messages mean that the police has been changed for all targets of presentation or just one? Is there anyway to say what targets presentment has modified fonts?

Here is an example of a compilation of JFBatch message. A similar problem appears when compiling the GUI.

    MSG #: 100 police passed: ' Arial (W1) 8.0 PT - Regular "to:" (W1) Arial PT. 10.0 - Regular'.

In fact, I thought that this one myself. If you compile from the user interface dialog box indicates which printer does not support the policy in question. If these printers were removed the presentation targets then the error disappears.

In my case, the question was HP 4 L, 5 L and 6 L printers.

  • RH10 made double path to some images and fails to compile HTML Help

I have a project which has been upgraded several times.  RH10, until he has worked and still works in RH9.  RH10 fails to compile this project and "Stops working" in Win7-64.  This project has been removed from the version control that did not fail, but did test a lot faster.

Towards the beginning of the 2 pop-up warnings compiling on the two images, we use as bullets that she, that the source does not exist.  There is no it's because it's doubly path (example: D:\project files\testproject\D:\project project\WarningSymbol.jpg 'cannot be copied to' D:\project files\testproject\!) SS! \Microsoft_Html_Help\! chm_temp_folder_0\D:\Project project\WarningSymbol.jpg. reason: source does not exist.

Go figure, the path is stubborn.  I tried to search for all styles and all pages for the use of these images and buried somewhere in this project is a hidden link in the code that I can't find.

In addition, the last file compiled prior to the stoppage has been redone so I think that this topic is ok.  I cut all of the text pasted into Notepad and replaced and reformatted to ensure there's no hidden strange characters.  No luck.

    Has anyone seen this?

    DV

After messing around with this for a few days, I went back to the working version RH9 project, copied to another folder and opened in RH10.  It's working now.  Something in the previous conversion or something after the conversion to corrupt the global variable and other links.

It seems to work now.  Good thing we saved.

  • Unable to auto expand topics when loading pages F1 help

    Hello

In application, we were limited to use Microsoft Compiled HTML Help. I'm more familiar with this format and have encountered a problem with subjects not auto expansion when the pages are launched.

We have integrated context-sensitive help, but I found at the launch of the application using F1 that although it loads the relevant topic it does not develop the menu to the appropriate section. I found a thread that suggested that I had to put the TOC box so "Always show selection" has been verified, but it did not work.

    I use Robohelp 8 version 8.0.0.203.

Can someone please advise if this is possible using this output and to advise on how we can get it to work.

    Thank you

    Alix

You don't need to create a new project. Just:

    1. Microsoft HTML Help set your default single source available. Right-click on it to do this.
    2. Create a new window. Right click again on a window and select new window.
    3. Set the option in the window.
    4. Change the properties of your page layout of single Source to use the new window.
  • X 5 crashes during compilation HTML

I searched through the forum for my problem, but if some are nearby, none reflects the situation I met recently. I work with RH X 5 in a Windows 2000 (Windows 5.00.2195, with Service Pack 4). In October, everything worked well. Because of the older development environment that is used in our society, I'm limited to generate HTML compiled as the help output. This worked well in October of last year, but now HR crashes when compiling the help file.

I watch the compilation process. It seems to happen all content and media files. I find myself with a '! chm_tmp_folder_0' file which seems to contain everything that I will need the .chm file. But about 30 to 40 seconds, once the "ehlpdhtm.js" step in the build process, he started in the "Transformation of keywords... "the generation dialog box disappears, HR is not refresh and it then closed without comment after a few seconds. I find myself with the aforementioned tmp folder and a .chm file that seems to be the right size, but when I try to open it, I get a "Cannot display page" message.

I moved the project folder in a folder with a short file name just off of the root of the hard drive and tried to run again. The same problem. I upgraded version X5.0.2 (I had been in X5.0.1) HR... his problem. I checked that Comcat.DLL version 4.71 or higher, as suggested in the tech note rb_10293, checked all the URLs of had the slashes to appropriate web addresses, checked, I had an appropriate default section and the window, and then I tried the trick of removing the .xpj file and the project to open the .hhp file. It always crashes when I try to generate the system compiled HTML help, exactly in the same place every time. (Oh and multiply the frustration: outputs WebHelp Pro and FlashHelp all printed Documentation generated successfully.)

Any ideas why my project crashes like that?

I gave up trying to find the source of the problem.

I started a new project to HTML help, copied on all subjects. Update. Success. Copied media files. Update. Success.

I did this step by step for: terms, DPE, OCD, window design, ssl settings. So I'm about 95% back to where I was before all this started, and I have all my new topics and content in place. I guess I'll just work here as if it never happened. I'm a bit wary of adding index keywords, because I have a sneaking suspicion that it was the source of my troubles, but I have no idea why this would be so.

In any case... Thanks for the help, Colum, Leon.

    Kind regards
    -Jay

  • * $$PlaceHolder$ $* appears where the header should be in the HTML Help topics

I worked on this project for a customer since 2004, update when they update their software.
I've recently upgraded to RH7 and worked on an update on their project. When I build the output HTML help this morning, the header was OK on only the first two topics; then, on the following topics, I was getting warnings "Script error".
I returned in RH7 and checked for files missing etc - everything is OK.
Then I made a menu > tools > update HTML effects that usually sorted any deviation of conduct or earlier versions. New compilation using HTML. Again, the header is normal on the first two topics only, but on all other (100 +) subjects, the heading is replaced by the text * $$PlaceHolder$ $*.
The header includes a table cell with a graphical background and a small graphic in the cell itself.
The two topics that display correctly are at the highest level in the table of contents; all other topics are on the books in the table of contents.
I tried sequence through a value of zero and a value of 1, but same problem. I tried to remove the display of sequences through the generation of output, but the same problem.
Headers not display correctly in preview mode topic.
I tried to delete the model of all subjects and then reapply; and then made a new construction. When I try to run the Help Guide, I get the pane contents in view OK, but the topic starter is empty, and I dialog "error in Script Internet Explorer":

    Yes/No ".
If I click Yes, this Guide works OK with all the headers in place.
I can then choose any other subject, and everything is OK; If I choose the topic starter, then I get the script error message once again.

  • Impossible to compile CHM - Message says to close all the Windows HTML help

TCS 1.3 running with the latest patches.

Single source project - out using HTML (.chm).

When I try to compile, I get the following message is displayed:

"Cannot create compiled file. It can be opened in another window. Please close all Windows HTML Help and try again. »

I don't have any HTML Help windows open. Closing of HR and restart do not solve the problem. I have to shut down the computer, which is a serious concern, before I can compile again. I do not work in a network directory, which may be the cause, but I would like to know if there is a process that I can kill for Windows Task Manager that would allow me to compile without having to restart my computer. I don't see any process that identifies itself as something that I can kill for this problem.

    Anyone?

    Hello

This message normally you launched the. CHM file you are trying to create. The first step in the process is to destroy the existing. CHM in preparation for the construction of a new. Just as you must destroy a House on a lot where you want to create a new.

If your. CHM is on a network drive, another user may be subject to open. (yet another good reason to work locally)

If your. CHM is on your local drive, RoboHelp believes that you have opened. If you press Alt + Tab, you see a blue arrow pointing upwards. Which indicates the CHM file running.

    Hello

A few months back I have facilitated a Webinar by Adobe on the use of multimedia in RoboHelp. Indeed, it is one of the pain points and where I REALLY wish that people would create a lifting of shields and the demand for better multimedia support.

Click here and complete the form to request that

The best bet on an empty stomach and the safer for audio clips is to create a small SWF Captivate you can then incorporate into a topic. Second best is to host the audio clip on something like SoundCloud and use their embed code.

  • missing topics involving irregular deadlines

EDIT: Sorry, I always forget to specify, but our help is an HTML-based help system.

First of all, some background: I work with a system of hereditary help file which has been years of preparation, so I don't know about his history and what happened in the past.

Anyhoo, the problem: I did some research on a problem I reported that some subjects were not turning upward when searched on. They are accessible by directly accessing them, but they do not appear in searches.

At first, I thought may be a thing of fusion, as our aid system spans more than 20 individual projects. However, this way of thinking has not panned.

Meanwhile, looking at the real project, I discovered that most of the subject real files seem to have been deleted. At first, this seems extremely odd, given that they still existed in the final help file, but after a quick or two seconds to be braindead, I realized that the .chm project is pretty old, and there was a good chance that the topics were somehow lost or deleted once it has been generated, which explains why they are always appearing in the .chm despite being missing in the project.

So I refreshed the project "like what", awaits now missing topics appear more. This is (for me), real name begins. The topics appear again - the only apparent difference that regenerate the file is was that several screenshots have disappeared (the rest of the text).

It's unexpected for me because the topic files are missing from the project and the table of contents links are broken. Nothing seems to point to an external source, or did not find these lost files elsewhere within projects / .chms that make up our help system.

Therefore, my expectation is that nothing should be mentioned under this title, because I don't know where it's getting the material when I generate it. Anyone has any ideas as to what can happen? At this point, I think is a direct question to track down the original Word docs and reinsert to update and correct broken links (which in turn, I hope that means they will show up in searches), but I'm really curious how this 'Phantom' material still exists in the new .chm, and if it indicates possibly any other question , I should be aware with (as new I'm quite in the dark with the way in which the system is built and mainted before me, and I just started here).

    Thanks in advance!

We have a problem, he must work around where the table of contents indicates a merged file, but look (and maybe the index, I don't remember off the top of my head) shows only subject in the Master chm for project file.

This is caused by the paths are hard-coded in the [FUSIONNES FILES] section. We believe it is to do with the source code control (we use VSS)

    Instead of appearing as files
    Help1.chm
    Help2.chm

    they appear as:
    c:\project\help1.chm
    c:\project\help2.chm

    Solution:
    compile using.
Open the hhp file, delete the path and save the hhp file.
    recompile the help.

We have not found a way to solve this problem permanently, unfortunately, so I have to remember the compilation double whenever we update the main project.

I hope it's useful for you.

  • RoboDemo (Captivate) file links do not work in HTML help

I have about 20 Flash animations (a .swf and a single .html file) that I created using Captivate (formerly "RoboDemo"). They are stored in a subfolder named 'Demos' under the application folder where my compiled help file is stored. Each film is referenced in a with a statement like the following help topic:

    {The EWL RoboEx32.dll, WinHelp2000, HREF is "demos\dc_gaprop.htm" ALTERNATE = "Self_Running_Demo_Links"}

When I compile for WinHelp 4, Flash movies work perfectly when I opened the topics that refer to them as above. When I compile for HTML Help, however, nothing happens when I open the topics that reference them. All subjects in plain text and links to web pages seem to work in the HTML Help version. I am running help on my local disk. I have a Windows XP computer. I use RoboHelp 5.0 (a little outdated, I know, could this be the cause?)

    Thanks for your help!

Thanks for the reply, Rick. It turns out that my problem was that the Flash files are in the wrong place when I compiled the .chm file. If I put them in the folder indicated by themes in my support system (a "Démos" subfolder), and then the Flash movies get compiled in the .chm file and everything is fine. Their location is not serious when I compile for WinHelp 4 because they do not need to be compiled in.

  • The search feature no longer works in any of my projects generated HTML help recently

I use 10.0.1.292 HR and HR 11.0.4.291 for different projects.

Recently, I noticed that the search feature returns no result, in one of my projects that are generated in either Rh10 or 11. I just get the message 'no topics found. It's used to work.

The only thing that was made recently (that I can think of) involved working with the .slp files to fix a problem with the glossary tab and the search functionality in a HR 11 Responsive HTML5 layout. (https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1690579) I, however, do not see how this would break the search functionality in my HTML projects.

    Any ideas?

In both 10 and 11, HR whenever I generated a project like HTML Help (still an example of project) the search functionality was broken. Finally, when I couldn't think what else to try, I uninstalled and reinstalled 10 HR, and that solved my problem - HR 10 and 11!

Apparently some file has been corrupted, but I don't know what broke or what caused the corruption. I'm still trying to get clarification from Adobe, but so far, I only received the following comments:

    • The robohelp cache folder and preferences may have caused this.
    • The problem can be either with updates on the system.

If I should receive any definitive information, I will update this post.

    Thank you.
