Move database Standard Edition to the Enterprise Edition.

Oracle: 11.2.0.2
OS: Redhat Linux 5.

We have an oracle standard Edition Server is installed with several databases installed. All are in log mode archive with RMAN backups running.
I need to move a database from standard edition to enterprise edition on a server differenct. My approach was to take the rman backup and restore it on the EA server. This seems too simple and wanted to make sure that I'm not running in something unexpected.
Anyone have any ideas on what I might be missing.

Thank you

Yes - pl follow the steps described in the above MOS Doc.

Oracle Database Standard Edition one Oracle Diagnostics and Tuning Pack

The reason I ask, it is possible to buy the Tuning Pack and the Oracle Diagnostics Pack online (he does not say it is limited to the company on the product description) and my manager wants to use it with the Standard edition. Read the MetaLink following document 1084132.1 (link below), he said that these packs are only an option if you are already running business, is this true?

So does that mean if I execute Standard, it is not possible to run, even if we buy the licenses.

    Hello

The following sections describe the Oracle Management packs. Management packs can be purchased only with Enterprise Edition. The features of these packs are available through Oracle Enterprise Manager Database Control, Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control, and API provided with the Oracle database software.

  • Difference between Enterprise Edition and Standard Edition for Oracle RAC

    Hello

In our current configuration we have CARS on standard edition and customer is now considering to go to Enterprise Edition, but not yet to decide because of the cost.

Is there a difference between the Infrastructure of grid 11gR 3 Enterprise edition and Standard Edition?

They told me first install Enterprise Edition and then will move to Standard Edition if they can not get the EA license, so in this case do I have to re - install standard edition network infrastructure?

    Hello

There is no "grid Infrastructure 11gR 3 Enterprise edition and Standard Edition", is the only Infrastructure of grid 11 GR 2.

On the Oracle Clusterware licenses (grid Infrastructure).
At least one of the servers in the cluster is allowed for the Oracle database (SE1, SE or EE)
A cluster is defined to include all machines that share the same Oracle Cluster Registry (OCR) and the drive to vote.

    On the licensing database.
    http://www.Oracle.com/us/products/database/Enterprise-Edition/comparisons/index.html

Note: Oracle Real Application Clusters (Oracle RAC), is an option to Oracle Database 11 g Enterprise Edition and included with Oracle Database 11 g Standard Edition (on clusters with a maximum of 4 Sockets).
If you move to EA Oracle, you must purchase a separate license to use the RAC option

    Regarding the Installation:
Nothing changes on your current installation of Grid Infrastructure 11.2
Just install a new fresh install to choose EF of the Oracle (the current clusterware) database during installation. Configure services database from this new HOME of ORACLE. Change anything on the database of all the previous backup and used functionality remains unchanged. With the help of this new House Oracle new features are enabled to be used by your databases.

Oracle Data Guard is available only as a feature of Oracle Database Enterprise Edition. It is not available with Oracle database Standard edition.

    Note:
It is possible to simulate a boot environment of database with the Oracle Database Standard Edition databases running. You can do this by transferring manually archived redo of log files using a utility to copy of the operating system or using custom scripts that send regularly archived redo log files of one database to another. The consequence is that this configuration does not provide the functionality of recovery after disaster, the manageability, performance and ease of use available with Data Guard >

So if you want the data to be protected, use Enterprise Edition.

  • Oracle standard edition / standard edition license.

    Hi all

Tell me the differences between standard and Standard Edition One in on CPU/Licensing terms?

Excerpt from the Oracle software investment Guide

Oracle Database Standard Edition can only allowed on servers that
have a maximum capacity of 4 Sockets

When Oracle programs with Standard Edition One of licenses or
Standard edition in the name of the product, a processor is considered equivalent to one
Jack occupied; However, in the case of each chip, multi-chip modules in the
multi chip module is counted as an occupied socket.

I have Intel xeon Quad Core CPU which takes place an outlet.

    (i) so that it is counted as chip 4 so 4 socket?
(II) or is considered 1 plug?
(III) should I always take note of the Oracle processor Core factor Table (the software investment guide says nothing for oneself)

    Kind regards
    Alan

To make oracle SE 1 = 1 CPU license, except when the socket accepts several (not hearts) chips specifically IBM Q Series servers have taken on the main Board that accept a card with two processors on this subject, should be 2 permits for standard edition. A grey area is chips with two separate completely dies in-house, the best is to contact the Sales Department of oracle and give them the specification of the server and they can then provide the exact metric of licenses.

  • Move the database as part of the Oracle 12 c upgrade files

    Hello

I read the document upgrade Oracle for the database Oracle 12 c.

    http://docs.Oracle.com/CD/E16655_01/server.121/e17642/upgrade.htm#CHDJJJEE

Here in DBUA, step 8 says that

Move database files in the page, select an option:

    • Move database as part of the upgrade files
    • Move the quick recovery as part of the upgrade area

I wonder why we never need to use this feature to move database files?

I understand for FRA, it will define just the parameters DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST and DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST_SIZE parameters to initialize at the new location and size new startup of the new home of Oracle database. But why never use us animated here database files option?

    Thank you

    Delphine

There is no requirement to move the database as part of the upgrade files. It is simply provided as an option

    Thanks in advance!

    Hello

I suggest that you install classic editiion and import/export company defenitely will work for you without hassle.

Just export / import the schema of the application based

    On SE
    exp system/password owner=userA,userB, userC, userD file=myusersexport.dmp log=myusersexport.log

On EE, make sure userA, userB, userC, userD exists and so any special ROLES before importing
    imp system/password fromUser=userA,userB,userC,userD toUser=userA,userB,userC,userD file=myusersexport.dmp log=myusersimport.log

  • Move 11 GR 2 (11.2.0.2) RAC 3 nodes Standard Edition to Enterprise Edition

    Hi all

I searched My Oracle Support a document describing the steps to upgrade editions in 11 GR 2 RAC environment, but without success.

Can someone point me in the right direction. A grassroots movement, I found http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E14072_01/server.112/e10819/intro.htm#BABFBJCC

But this document does not specify whether it applies to CARS as well. I think I would just top the RAC, grid, ASM and Stanley, SCAN Agents database. Uninstall oracle home in the standard and re - install right publishing company on it without touching the database.

My main growth is Post uninstall and post re - install, something to do with the reissue of links possibly houses to regroup?

Thanks in advance for any help or advice on this issue.

    Jan S.

I have no experience with CARS, MOS Doc 451981.1 (how to convert a database RAC of Standard Edition (SE) to Enterprise Edition (EE)?), but perhaps useful. The doc is specific to 10 gr 2, so changes may need to be made to GR 11, 2. I was opening a SR too.

    NO.

Listener is a specific node resource, so you should have 1 single earphone (ranging from the upper version of DB House) on a server and it will be.

  • With Standard Edition database DB from Enterprise Manager management packs.

    Hi all

As far as I know Enterprise Manager 11g is free to install, but not management pack.
I want to install 11g Grid control in my environment but I got all my oracle Standard edition databases.
    So my question is that:
Which one would use one of the following management pack in my Enterprise manager 11g grid control environment?

Below is the text copied from EM 11 g Documentation

Enterprise Manager offers the following packs of the Oracle database:

Pack of diagnostics for the Oracle database.

    Tuning Pack for Oracle Database+.

Management of change for Oracle Database pack+.

Configuration Management Pack for the Oracle database.

Provisioning and Patch Automation Pack for Oracle Database+.

Hide data Pack for Oracle Database+.

These management packs can be purchased only with Enterprise Edition. The features of these packs are available through Oracle Enterprise Manager Database Control and Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control and API provided with the Oracle database software.

    Thank you very much
    Hems

Not exactly, but you can not register with anything other than Enterprise Edition management packs.

You can continue to use the Grid control to monitor the availability of database and server and perform tasks to others, but the features available in these management packs (as the 'Performance', or patch management tab and so on) will not work. It still provides a value without these packs.

With Essbase you should not all the problems of your switch/bet far Win 2003 Enterprise Edition.

If you are moving to x 64 Win Server you will probably have to do a full install on a new machine in which case you will just be transfer (.otl) schema files, etc. for the Essbase Essbase Server to the new. So no effect as long as you install more Essbase on x 64 don't box correctly.
