Move the windows on a new hard drive

I have three hard drives in my system and I can't the system to move the windows on the faster hard disk.

You will need to have to use a cloning software to image (clone) of the system on the fastest disk drive or you will have to reinstall Windows on the fastest disk.

Anyway make sure you got your data from the faster drive or it will be gone when you perform one of the functions.

  • Can I move my Windows on a new hard drive?

    Here's the situation:

I currently have a pretty old IDE hard drive, and I'm looking to upgrade to a new motherboard that does not all IDE ports. So basically I'd copy my current hard drive (Windows and all) in a more recent SATA one?

If not, is there something I could do to move all my stuff on a new hard drive, even if I have to buy a new copy of Windows?

Thanks in advance for any help, I'm pretty lost at this point.

Look for a hard drive that suits. Note the manufacturer. Go to their website and download the software they provide for copying/cloning the old drive to the new. Use the new disk on your upgraded computer. You may need to do a telephone activation.

Note that to do this and have an installation that can be enabled with the current number of product, your version of Windows Vista should be a commercial version and not an OEM version. OEM, those who come usually pre-installed on a PC, versions are valid only for the equipment on which they were originally installed.

However, even if your original version was OEM, there are ways to proceed. Do the hardware upgrades. Install a new copy of details of the operating system of your choice. (This could be the opportunity to move to Windows 7 unless additional fees). Put your old drive in an external enclosure that accepts IDE (PATA) drives. Copy your files from the user on the newly targeted PC. You will need to install all the old applications.

It's a pain in the underworld, but the performance improvements are generally well worth the effort.

    Good luck.

  • move the creative after a new hard drive

I used to move the system with Augsburg suite cs3 to a new disk (ssd) (with Acronis True Image 2011). Disable the following devices before or not?

Yes, disable (help > deactivate) your cs3 that was on your old hd.

and you can expect to one (or more) of the problems if you clone your adobe programs.  You must install the adobe programs correctly using the installation files and your serial number.  Make sure that your serial number is correct and secure prior to disable.

However, the requirements for the media upgrade is that you have an operating system already eligible such as Windows XP or Vista installed to use it. Since the Windows 7 end user license agreement.

15 UPDATES. To use upgrade software, you must first be licensed for the software that is eligible for the upgrade. After the upgrade, this agreement takes the place of the agreement for the software that you upgraded. After upgrade, you can no longer use the software that you upgraded.

So, if you are always denied, you will just have to reinstall Windows XP or Vista and let it do the verification of eligibility.

  • How can I empty the Windows installation on my hard drive?

How can I empty the Windows installation on my hard drive, please?  I was going to re - install, then I changed my mind.
Now, every time that I reboot, instead of launching Windows XP Pro, it try to run Windows installation.  The installation program appears as a second menu item under "Windows XP Pro" on the black screen at launch.

How can I remove it from the startup screen and flush it out of my system?

    Any correction, automated for this?

    Thank you.

It is difficult to determine what you did, but the symptoms you describe can be eliminated by editing the boot.ini file (you can also make things really difficult if you make a mistake when you edit the boot.ini file, so be careful).  Will not be "flush out the Windows installation" of your system, but it will stop the menu from appearing at startup time.

    See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/289022

Your boot.ini file probably has a second line in the [operating systems] section.  Make sure that you delete only the line that points to the installation routine.

  • HP TouchSmart 420 - 1000 t CTO: need help with the installation of windows on a new hard drive for HP TouchSmart 420-1000 t CTO (bought in 2012)

My hard drive is failng in my computer I get the message that "the failure of hard drive" is imminent for several months now.  I did just recovery disks after I bought my computer and that you have ordered a new hard drive.

I thought that the part of the setup of windows on a portion of the current hard disk that I need to replace.

I want to just make sure that if I can restore the windows completely and that all programmes provided with the computer are on the recovery discs I want to do it myself - so I need to know I'm doing it correctly!

    Thank you very much.

PS I found this web page below and I want to just make sure that it applies to me:

This link in the post seems to apply to the situation.  If you have already completed the defined recovery disc then it should just be a matter of running the recovery disc after the new hard drive is installed.  The recovery disk set will be "restoring windows completely and all programs included with the computer".  Be aware that all other items that were installed or personal data will not be restored.  When replacing the hard drive, do not buy a disc exceeds the limit of 2 TB, such as published in the SPECS for TouchSmart 420-1000 t CTO.

  • The drive on my Acer Z5610 is overheating and stop. How can I transfer my Windows 7 on new HARD drive

Would appreciate help from the members of the Forum.

The drive on my Acer Z5610 is overheating and stop unexpectedly. I bought a new 1 TB WD HARD drive. I tried loading the Acer recovery CD 3 I initially created in order to load all applications touch etc, but received a message to say that I got at loading Windows. The computer came pre loaded with Windows 7 Home Premium, so I did not all Windows disks. My question is: How can I transfer Windows 7 on my new HARD drive so I can begin to rebuild the PC?

    Hello

I think that you have created the driver & application backup, if this is the case & * if the old HDD is still detected & boots you could create a factroy restore discs, if not then you might even get to store.acer.com.

  • Installed Windows on a new hard drive with an old processor, the video controller, there are no drivers

I have updated all drivers for obtained with the exception of my video controller. Since then, I've used about 200 GB of space on it from the information that I want to keep, but apparently the drivers because this computer does not exist for windows 7. What should I do?

  • Can I move my current operating system that came with the computer on a new hard drive?

My family got a hp pavilion m7560n some time ago.  Last weekend I heard on that clicking sound from the hard drive I think.  Since then, I only heard once or twice.  All that I know is that clicking may mean the hard drive is defect or on the way that him.   However I don't know if this is the case if the sound starts and stops.

I want to know if I can format a new hard drive to replace the one provided with the system and always keep the same format as on the system when it was new.  I mean here the operating system and all other programs who came to this topic.  The recovery that are made to work for this computer discs may work on a new drive hard format if it is put in place of the system?

Or are otherwise free to carry the operating system and other programs on a new hard drive.

The hard disk provided with the system's 320 GB, I have one that is 500 GB.

    Hi logicman77,

the recovery discs are meant to be exactly for this purpose.  You can put in a new drive hard (500 GB is fine), and the discs will reinstall XP, as well as all software provided on them.

The computer will look like it did the day you took it out of the box.  This document will give you details on the implementation of the recovery: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/bph07145

  • Installation of Windows on a new hard drive

I have a computer I want to get a new, more large hard drive. The vehicle currently has Windows Vista installed on it and the hard drive still works, I just need more space. What should I do to install Windows on the new drive? I will use the installation disc that came with the computer. If I get out the old hard drive, install a new one, put Windows on the new, then format the old one? Basically, I want to avoid having Windows installed on two hard drives to work.

    Hello

the steps you have mentioned are correct:

take out the old hard disk - the new drive hard install - reinstall vista - old erase hard drive

You can then use a the old hard drive to backup your data

and read too much about the displacement of the full to avoid you operating system having to load data and programs again. but then you still wipe the old disk

It might make you save time and effort:

hard drive manufacturers will normally provide the cloning software to move your operating system installed from the old to the new hard disk

If you have vista business or ultimate, you can use the builtin vista complete PC Backup to move

  • Pavilion p6230y: how to reinstall Windows on a new hard drive

    Hello

Recently, I had a hard drive failure. The drive is about 7 years so I understand he lived a life busy for a long time, and I plan replace it. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to make the recovery discs and I don't have a windows CD, because it is installed on the disk hard when I bought the computer. If I had to buy a new HARD drive, how would I reinstall Windows on it without re-purchase a copy? I was told there would be a product key on the chasis somewhere but I couldn't find the model and serial number for the bureau, nothing to do with Windows. I also searched HP website to see if I could order recovery disks, but this option is not visible anywhere. Help, please!

    Thank you, Alex.

    Alex, welcome to the forum.

Unfortunately, because you did not the system recovery media when you bought the computer, you will need to buy a full copy of Windows 7.

Here's a guide to help you try to order the HP discs.  However, I believe that it is very unlikely that they are always available from your computer is more than 7 years old.

Please click on the Thumbs up button '+' if I helped you and click on "Accept as Solution" If your problem is resolved.

  • Reinstall Windows 7 on new hard drive

My laptop hard drive has crashed and it is impossible to recover anything. So I bought a new hard drive and realized that I don't have installation media. Microsoft has taken the digitalriver site down and does not allow me to download win7 on their site because my key is OEM. What are my options? Lenovo does not allow their customers to download win7? After all, I have a valid key. Grateful if someone here can help me.

I finally fixed it. Use the recovery since a laptop another lenovo and changed media key to windows after installation. And then upgraded to windows 10 without any problem. Thank you!
