move vmdk to a logical unit number to another logical unit number

Hello

I have my VC running as a virtual machine. I need to recreate the lun. So I need to move the virtual machine to a different unit number logic temp that I created.

I already moved a few vm after their closure.

I have two hurdles. We need to move the virtual machine which can not be stopped.

I think migrate the Clariion LUN.

the other obstacle is to move the Victoria Cross.

Now, if I stop the VC, I can't use the migration data store option.

Download all the files of vc and then scp to the lun temp? then vi the file vmx and update the current path/name of lun and change for the new lun to temp?

is it risky or should I do the clariion lun migration.

any thoughts?

You copy the files to a data store, so at the end you will have 2 copies. You need to remove the virtual machine of the inventory (right click VM and remove inventory does NOT). Then navigate to the new data store, right-click on the .vmx file and add to the inventory. If everything seems ok, you can remove the folder from the original data store.

I hope this helps.

ESX3.5U4/VC2.5 - move vmdk to adequate data store and extend the drive on the virtual machine

Objective: move vmdk to store data with adequate storage and then increase storage D: 20G to 100G

Converter is not available on this architecture. Can I migrate cold vm to the different data store, no prob.

Question: Without use of the converter, method 3 can be used without a secondary vm? In other words, just by using target vm offline, online, offline? Or is it a problem of signing/OS disk on the Windows Virtual PC?

I need to move vmdk in different LUN and extend drive vm windows on D: (non-OS drive). Is this possible via the single procedure? Options?

To use method 3 to http://communities.vmware.com/thread/81121 requires available vm 'secondary', I did not.

Method 3? Using of vmkfstools and another VM of Windows to extend a drive

o stop the VM to resize

o log in the console ESX Server via Putty

o Type? vmkfstools? X & lt; new size of drive & gt; vmfs/volumes / & lt; storage volume name & gt;. / & lt; virtual server name & gt;. / & lt; the virtual disk name & gt;? That is to say. /vmfs/volumes/Storage1/my_vm.VMDK new disk size can be specified in kilo, mega, or gigabytes and will be the total size of the new disk. So if you want to increase a virtual disk of 20 GB of 24GO you would put 24000 m or 24g

o the second virtual machine to help stop

o change the second virtual machine settings and add the first virtual machine hard drive

o power on the second VM and load the disk management snap-in and verify that the first virtual machine disk has unallocated on it space

o select Start, run and enter diskpart.exe

o the command? the list of volume? This will show you all the volumes.

o select your volume based on the results of the list volume command, IE. ? Select volume 1?

o type the command? extend? to extend the volume

o check again the disk management snap-in and the volume is expected to be expanded with a greater ability

o stop the second VM and remove (do not remove) the record of it

o turn your first VM and the new space should be there and ready to use.

for VI3, vmoiton of storage is made by RCLI plugin or a 3rd party

    I prefer the plugin

    http://www.virtualizationadmin.com/articles-tutorials/VMware-ESX-articles/VMotion-DRS-high-availability/storage-VMotion-SVMotion-VI-plugin.html

In addition, if the option to increase the size of the disk in the VIC is grayed out, it sounds like a permissions issue.  Finally, you can not extend the disc using the VIC, if the customer in question has a snapshot.

I want to move the profile data and the addons on another disk.

Can I specify where Firefox puts the profile and the addons?

If another location, then Windows uses by default.
    c:\Documents and Settings\User\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\

    WinXP, FF 3.6.8

You can do this by using the Profile Manager. When you create a new profile, you can specify a location for the profile folder.

You may create a new profile, and then transfer the data to it. For more information, see create a new profile for Firefox on Windows and transferring data to a new profile.

I want to move a program from one hard disk to another is possible? I have the original disc to the software, but it is damaged. The hard disk that contains the program barely works, so I need to transfer all the programs and data to another drive. I used the transfer Assistant, but that will not transfer this program?

Unless you make an exact copy of the installation CD, I'm not sure there is much else you can do.

You can always try using a cloth and wipe the disc from the Center outward. That might do the trick. Or you can use a program like IMGBurn and create a new CD and hope for the best. Other than that, I'm ideas.

    Hi all
We use oim11g ps1 bp04 and connector AD ICF
We need to move the AD on a specific OU user say "OU = disable, dc = test, dc = com"

The idea is that the user is automatically disabled the shd moved user to the "OU = disable, dc = test, dc = com" and disabled as well. "

    1:
We thought to create a new task of process and using the adapter OOTB uses the 'user update", we may be able to set the value of the OU as a literal. But I am not able to understand the origin specify the literal value of the ORGANIZATIONAL unit in the variables of the adapter.

Please can anyone suggest how can we do this?

Neige2: Write an ST that move users to the disabled person or after being disabled.

    Any thoughts?

    1. create the adapter task process
    Create a string variable

Select the logical task-> Set Variable-> in menu drop-down select return value of adapter-> type of the operand as a variable and the qualifier as the name of the variable

2 create conditional motion user task in process user def AD and select the map above.
provide the static OU in the input variable and the plan of the return value of process data-> organization name

    3. attach this task on the success of the task of the user to disable.

  • move VMDK files

    Ladies and gentlemen,

I have a cluster of nodes 2 MS. obviously shared drives are all RDM. However, the descriptor (mapping) files (VMDK) are on a data store, and the OS boot virtual disks. I have the BONE pushes offshore to another data storage-vmotioned Bank. However, can't get rid of the data store original as the descriptor files for shared drives (RDM) is still there and I can't move. I guess I can go thought delete/re-attach RDMs process and place the VMDK on another store. However, for this I have to go through the administration of cluster as well and I would really like to avoid this. My wuestion is: is it possible to move files VMDK for RDM without removing and re - attach firmly? At perhaps a similar way to storage vmotion? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • VIC SVmotion Plugin not able to move VMDK and leave the rest

I use ESX 3.5 update 4 with the 1.0.0.0 SVmotion plugin.  I have a virtual machine that has 2 disc two currently on the store of data even zFCP.  I wan to move the second disk (D:\) in the first disc on the zFCP data store and a SATA data and survey the VM store.  I right-click the virtual machine, select storage to migrate, and I emphasize the second disc.  I can drag it to the SATA data store and click on apply.  After a few seconds, I get the error message:

The requested Storage VMotion would move disks to a virtual machine without affecting the virtual machine, a new home page, but such an approach is not supported on the host source "hostname".

If I try to move the VM together with the two discs, which works very well, but I only want the second disc.  Is it possible to move one disk of a virtual machine and do not have to move the entire virtual machine?  I thought that the SVmotion point should have the ability to move around VMDK.

    Thank you

you will need to do this, use the remote CLI.

First install the VI remote CLI, you can download it from the following locations.  http://www.vmware.com/download/vi/drivers_tools.html.

Open a command prompt, and then navigate to the bin directory in C:\Program VMware VI remote CLI\.

Then, run the following command to put the svmotion in interactive mode

    C:\Program Files (x 86) \VMware\VMware VI remote CLI\bin > svmotion.pl - interactive

It will then ask you to enter your coordinates of VC and once you are connected to the VC, you need to enter the name of your datacenter (case sensitive)

then it will ask you to enter the location of the vmx

Enter the path of the data of the virtual machine (for example MyVM/MyVM.vmx store

then it will ask you to enter the name of the destination database (in your case the SATA data store name)

then you will be prompted by the following

you will be prompted with the following message if you VM disks.

You can also move the disks regardless of the virtual machine.  If you want to stay with the VM disks, then skip this step...

You would individually place the disks (yes/no)?

    type Yes

It will now ask you to enter the path of your vmdk, so you must enter the path for the two discs.

    MyVM/MyVM.vmdk

    fibredatastore

    hard MyVM/myvm (2)

  • How to convert a vmdk into a vmdk 'partition individual logic

I have a new computer, I'm too migration.  I have a partition on a disk, to that I want to dedicate a virtual machine from my old computer.  How can I convert the old "based"vmdk (single growable virtual disk) to a virtual machine that "owns" the partitionX of the diskY?»  Is this possible or do I have to recreate everything (that is, create a new virtual machine using the 'individual' partition and reinstall windows in the new virtual machine, etc...).

We have understood your questions - answers still apply your reformulated question.

    > Maybe a more fundamental question - what performance gain would I see?

It depends - if you use a type vmdk growing now you can get a significant performance gain.
If you use a preallouee vmdk now so I don't expect a significant difference.

Note: as soon as you go to a physical disk snapshots are banned, suspend, and sleep is prohibited...
You will pay for this gain of theoretical performance with loss of flexibility.
