Moved active Win 7 on a virtual to a new HOST computer - now need to reagent but...

When I try it does not accept my product key.  I went through their activation dialog box, called the phone number, entered their code and told me I had to get a new key. (Waste of time).

Okay, I need to talk or to send someone who grasps the situation. What do you recommend?

  • Error message: «the virtual network on the host computer drivers are incompatible...» »

Just bought a new computer that is running Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit.

    I installed VMWare Workstation 6.5.1 build 126130.

I copied on a machine virtual from the old computer (running Windows XP Pro and VMWare Workstation 5.0.0 build 13124). I improved this VM Workstation 6.5. This virtual machine is currently running Windows XP Pro.

When I run the virtual machine on the new computer, I get the following error message:

"The virtual network on the host computer drivers are incompatible with the installed application of VMWare. Version expected 5. Please reinstall the product. Virtual device Ethernet0 will start disconnected. »

Note that the virtual machine runs; I don't have any network capacity.

I read the thread http://communities.vmware.com/thread/186731, who seems to have the same problem. He had installed 6.5 on 5.5; When he uninstalled and deleted all of the directories, and then reinstalled everything went well.

I don't have any product VMware existing on the computer that would cause this type of conflict.

So, what should I try to fix this?

    Thank you

    Wayne

    If you want to install only vmnetadapter, open cmd as admin in vmware workstation dir and run;

    "rundll32 setupapi, InstallHinfSection VMnetAdapter1.Install 128% CD%\netadapter.inf"

You can also repeat for vmnetadapter8.

If it does not run as above

    "vnetlib - install devices.

  • migrate virtual machines to new host

How can I migrate easily all my virtual machines (12) on my current 5.1 ESXi host to new host ESXi 5.1... ?

[1] put the former host's hard drive in the new host and perform an upgrade from 5.1 ESXi installation disk (the hard drives of the two hosts are the same)?

[2] put HDD in the new host as a secondary, pop disk in the ESXi 5.1 installation disc to install ESXi 5.1 on the new host's hard drive, but migrate/import virtual machines from the data on the secondary drive (drive old host) store? the host of the former

[3] pop in the ESXi 5.1 installation disc to install ESXi 5.1 on the new host's hard drive. Once completed, put the hard drive of the host of the former in the new host as a secondary drive and copy/import virtual machines from the data store on the secondary drive (drive old host) using VMware vSphere Client?

[4] install ESXi 5.1 on the new host, he networked with the old host and use VMware vCenter Converter to import virtual machines from the old host?

What might work is engaging the larger disk of 'old' to a SATA port once you have installed the disk again, ESXi. Attaching to a port USB probably won't work because VMFS volumes are not supported on USB devices.

  • How to run virtual machines on new host after reconstruction?

So my upgrade from 5.0 to 5.1.0a do not go well and I ended up re-installing the hypervisor. I have all the virtual machines in a store of data that is not affected.

After the mapping data store, how I open / launch VMs on the new host of bed?

    Thanks for your help.

Browse the data store, right-click on vmx for each virtual computer.  Add to the inventory.  Now, you can access and start them.

  • virtual machine on the host computer has been detected to have a duplicate ip address

I have seen several threads about this, but they are all either point to one) all resources used or b) firewall issues, and since I have neither, I wanted to see if anyone knows the answer...

I have 6 servers identical all running the same exact version of ESX Server 3i 3.5.0 build-153875 and 5 of them work perfectly, but the 6th gives the same error as the original poster. It obviously isn't a problem of firewall from the 5 / 6 work very well and I connect to all (and about 15 other servers vmware ESX Server) of my workstation. The server with the question has no installed VMs (don't stay connected long enough to build a) and he passesd all hardware diagnostics I run on it. It has an IP address static, put in place like all other servers and ESX I reinstalled several times.

Looking at the logs, I see this message: virtual machine on the host has been detected with a duplicate IP address

How is this possible, is that there is still no VMs on that? Anyone know how to fix this?

How is this possible, is that there is still no VMs on that? Anyone know how to fix this?

Not sure why she complains VM, as you didn't tell any virtual machine set up, but define you as static.  Are you sure that you do not use an IP address already in use?

Disable the ESX host, can you ping the IP?  Something is using this IP address somewhere, so the message can be vague, but something is causing an IP address conflict.

  • Dedicated network adapter to the virtual machine and the host computer not let can visit his profile

OK, here's my question, I know how to give themselves a phyiscal nic to a vmware, but I wanted to take it one step further and do not leave the host send or receive data from this network card, only the virtual machine can use this network/NIC...

Here's my reasoning, I have to network conections, one is for my internal/field network and the second is a direct connection to the internet (Comcast) I don't want to use to separate the machines have for internet connection, I want to be on the same machine phyiscal and have just the vmware machine talking to comcast... is it possible?  I am running VMware workstation 7, last update.

    Thank you

    Cdrshm

I assume you are using a Windows host?

    If Yes...

-first set up networking networking with vmnetcfg.exe

-assign vmnet0 to the network card for the internal network

-assign vmnet2 to the network card used for direct access to the internet

-Right-click on the map network-icon in the systray and access the properties of the network adapter for vmnet2

-Disable all other protocols and the Protocol of vmware_bridge for this network adapter

result: a virtual machine that uses vmnet2 can directly access the internet and the host has no IP address for this network adapter - and therefore cannot use it.

  • Moved the files to the new location and now need help

    A bit new to dreamweaver.

    CS4 Mac

I had created a site on an external HARD drive.

Some time ago I moved it to my internal HARD drive.

When I went to edit today I can't open it as a website... just like the individual pages.

When I went to use a portion of my assets, DW says that "I have to set a site before I can use any assets."

How to redefine my site - if I have already defined it, but DW doesn't see it...?

I hope that makes sense.  Any help is appreciated.

    Thank you.

Should I create a new site and move my files to the new site?

    It's a solution VERY!

  • Did not backup VCenter VM with space in name and the virtual created from ESX host computer

    Hi all

Have worked on the backup of VMware VM ESX 4.1,5.1.5.5 for nearly a year and now I'm familiar Vsphere API (VADP), VDDK API,.

Now, I'm working on the same implementation by using the credentials of vCenter it works very well up there in the name of VM space.

VDDK API fails to open the disc with the error code VIX_E_FILE_NOT_FOUND 4, I studied on it, the problem is with "vmpath", the setting is mandatory when using VDDK with vCenter.

vmpath is in cnxParams and it specifies the owner of the particular disc vm.

vmpath format is "vmpath = DatacenterName/vm/VMname" for example. 'vmpath = myDC/vm/testVM' it works perfectly

but the problem is when it's likevmpath = myDC/vm/test VM"i.e. the space in my VM name and then fails.

I use VDDK 5.5.4 and vCenter 6.0 because it is compatible with the other.

    Thank you and best regards,

    Dipak Poirier

Please provide a code snipped, including the full command. This could make things more clear.

  • When you run a single virtual machine on the host computer, is it ok to assign all the processors for comments

I have a single guest Windows 7 Pro running on the host ESXi 5 U1.   It will always be in a 1-1 configuration (we needed server hardware, but with BONES desktop for purposes of licensing).  The host CPU is an E5603 (Quad - core 1.6 GHz).  I want the guest to have the maximum amount of possible processor cores, because a true multi-threaded application runs.  Because Windows 7 is limited to 4 cores, I disabled hyperthreading on the processor so that when I assigned 4 cores the VM, I get all 4, not the half because of hyperthreading.

I am setting for claim processor between the host and the guest?  Should I only assign 3 carrots to the guest while it is still available for the host?

With the requirement, it's guessing more than knowing what to configure. I think that with 2 Dual-Core configuration, I suggested above, you're on the save side.

  • VCenter moved to a new host, now it shows as orphans

Hi, I moved vCenter to a new host.  Now when I open vCenter, it shows the server under the old host as (orphans).  The new host is showing that (not answer).

  • How to move the virtual machine from one host to another?

The two boxes under ESXi 5.0 (hypervisors freely licensed).

I have a virtual machine (FreeBSD) that I need to go to another box.

Network ports are not the same, but I guess that's not a biggie to reconfigure the network cards. Other than that, I have to follow a few best practices/SOPS or copy & paste is everything I need to run perfectly on a different host?

    Thank you very much!

FastSCP allows you to copy directly between hosts, so it can save a lot of time you copy.  I don't know what you mean by 'manually' copy files.  Do you mean using the vShpere client and download the files to a location then download them to the new host?  Either way works perfectly, but FastSCP you must save a step.

If you have currently snapshots, you can consolidate first or leave em and just copy them with the rest of the virtual machine. There should be no need to do something with snapshots, if you perform a migration 'offline '.  As long as you take all the files, snapshots will be displayed on the destination host computer when you save the vm on the host.

I did 'on-line' migration of large virtual machines first to the take a snapshot on the source host, copy basic to the first destination host disks while the virtual machine was still running on the source host.  When I was ready to migrate the CPU processing, I power off the virtual machine, copy the other files (which would include the deltas from disk and whatnot) and turn on the vm on the destination host (which would cause only a few minutes of downtime).  Later, I consolidate records by removing the snapshot on the destination host.  Way to a poor man to do a migration of vm on ESXi free edition with little downtime.

  • Require a process step by step for the migration of virtual machines to new VMware ESX hypervisor

    Hello

I'm looking for the method step by step for the migration of virtual machines to new host ESX Migration both cold and hot.

Scenario - I have two data centers running ESX host stand-alone (with VM) in Europe. I need to build the new ESX host in new Dataceter to Singapore.

Need prerequisites, the methods available for migrate VMWARE virtual has new host ESX (in the new data center) with minimum downtime.

It will be great if you can enumerate the markets or redirect me to documentation that I can use to create detailed steps as the target host compatibility check on VMs and so on.

    Please advice

    Concerning

    AVI

The steps are correct. The virtual machine must be turned off (step 3).

  • Slow down the virtual machines on the host of underutilized - unknown reason

    Hello

What could cause virtual machines running on a host computer with a lot of unused memory, processor power and disk IO sink so slowly that it takes 30 minutes just to open a Windows session on one of them?

I ran about 5 virtual machines on a host with 16 GB of RAM, but have now upgraded to 32 GB of RAM in the hope to add more virtual machines. At some point, most of the machines is idle, and SysInternals Process Explorer shows less than 20% use by the processors. E/s disk too is usually measured in kb/s - 16 disks systems although RAID is capable of much more of IO.

As soon as I run about 6 or 7 of virtual machines instead of about 5, I meet considerable slowdowns as mentioned above. I use only about 20 GB of the 32 GB in the system when problems occur.

    Dramatik2

The aggreggate e/s disc is irrelevant.

You need to look at the disk queue length, read, write, transfer, etc.

  • Activation of manipulation of the virtual machine PC - Backup Windows XP Home

My question is what to do about Virtual PC Windows XP activation ona machine and how to manage it.

Because I need to upgrade the system drive on my old DELL PC (and after changing the hard drive I want to do a new install of Win XP (OEM version)), I wanted to save all of my current system. In case something goes wrong or I have to go back and look up some settings I wanted to create a VM from my old PC. I used Microsoft tool disk2vhd and create a virtual drive. On my laptop, I installed Windows Virtual PC, created a new virtual machine and mounted this virtual drive of my old PC as an existing drive.

This virtual PC will not be used for any research other than the occasional software or settings once used.

After I created this virtual machine, I wanted to test and I entered my credentials a window poped by saying - "this copy of Windows must be activated with Microsoft before you can continue. You cannot open a session to what you activate Windows do you want to activate Windows now? To shut down the computer, click Cancel. Yes-No-Cancel"

I don't want to press YES since I have no idea of what he will do. I really don't want to find yourself on a blacklist with blocked windows cannot run a virtual machine unable to use and update my old existing pc.

I would appreciate any advice. What should I do? Should I press YES? It will raise red flags? If I can't do that it will be solved otherwise? A special key or something? Or it is impossible to use a virtual pc as a backup solution?

    Thanks for all the answers.

MS did not sell XP packs over a year ago - there are a few stoists still with the inventory, but be very careful when you buy, as the majority of those advertised on the internet is a counterfeit.

  • Windows activation on the development of virtual machines

I'm in my projects and software services provider, we have 50 odd VMs where I do the test for the integration of the software product to my customer. Came out to be very expensive to manage a huge active virtual machines with OS field. We need to test it with say Win 732 bit with IE9, Win 7 64 bit with IE 9 and Win 7 64 bit with IE 10, IE 11 and Windows 8, 8.1 and so on.  What Microsoft suggests in this case. This isn't production environment, whether for QA. Please notify

You must invest a MSDN subscription and use the license of Windows 7 Enterprise included with it, available in 32 and 64 bit. It allows up to 1 500 activations I think.

Compare the benefits of the subscription . Visual Studio
