Moving old iMac to newer model

I have a 2007 24 "iMac running 10.5.8 at home and just bought an iMac 27" 5K new. I used Time Machine to back up my old Mac via a USB 2.0 drive, but I'm not sure about migration anything over the old to the new. I would like to have all my files available if possible. I realize that most, if not all of my software will be upgraded to the new computer. I use Adobe CS and QuarkXPress software. And a few other things. What recommendations do you get me upward and run as seamlessly as possible from my old system to this new, with maximum use of document files, previous image and video.

I want to retire from my old iMac, but understand that I may be to have as a companion computer until I get smooth running with the new system. All advice is appreciated. Thank you.

Kort,

Apple is explains the data migration in move your content to a new Mac - Apple Support. Everything you need is there. If you only want to migrate data and not others, then it is better to create a bootable clone or connect the two computer together using OS X Lion mountain: transfer files between two computers using target disk mode. Need you a Firewire adapter Thunderbolt for the new computer for using target disk mode well.

Range normally would be about the same thing... because the power of diffusion of wireless routers is limited by law... and each manufacturer seems to work their routers at full breath.

But, because of the age of the A1143 AirPort Extreme, he's probably lost 30 to 40 percent of its performance, maybe more.

  • Pictures on a new iMac won't start - he's trying to fix the photo library after the migration of my old iMac.  The two are running El Capitan

Photos on my new iMac won't start - get an error message after trying to fix the photo library.  I just migrated all of my old iMac a new aid of Time machine backup.  Both are running OS 10.11 (El Capitan).

Get an error message after trying to fix the photo library.

What does this error message say?  Photos crash or exit gracefully?

Where your iPhoto library that Library stored? In your pictures folder, or on an external drive?

Try to copy the library of Photos directly without Time Machine. Connect the two Macs using your network and copy the old Mac to the new library, well as signed in on your new Mac.

Then try to open this copy in Photos.

Back it up to an external USB drive. Then, connect the hard drive to the new Mac and restore your stuff in the same places where they came from. Make sure that the new admin account, you create the new Mac has the same user name and password that your the one used on the old Mac. This avoids issues with permissions on the data transferred.

  • Old iMac to the new iMac?

I have posted before, but I am now ready to move from my 2007 24 ' iMac to a model of 5K of 2015. The old operating system is leopard (10.5.8) and the news is... most recent .the (Sierra). I was told to join the former backup disk, Time Machine USB 2.0 on my new computer before the first start and following the guests. Of course the software may not be compatible, but I would like to transfer as many files over the old machine to the new as possible so that I can remove the 24 ", or at least re - goal there.

This is the best method. Should I add some steps of the process or do something else? I was aware of something special during this process? Please notify.

    Thank you!

Congratulations Kort! Yes, that would be the best way. But this the first time you start your new Mac. After that, it will create a second home folder issue.

  • Passwords Firefox inside old iMac to MacBook Pro new

    Hello:

I tried to use the add-on, exporting password. He works for export from my old iMac but when I tried to install exporter of password on my new MacBook Pro running Firefox v37.0.2, I get the message "password exporter could not be installed because it is not compatible with Firefox 37.0.2.".

    So . . . .

Is there another way to export and then import Firefox passwords?

    Thank you

    Thank you!

I've used both and they both work.

First of all, I transferred the files logins.json and key3db of my old Firefox my Firfox again on the new MacBook Pro. Alto! It worked!

Then I registered Firefox Sync. It will be the end of my problems to keep up-to-date on both computers.

BTW. I discovered that both computers running Firefox v37.0.2. Apparently the problem is with the password exporter. It cannot be installed on Firefox v37.0.2, but if it is installed before you upgrade to Firefox v37.0.2 that he continues to work.

    Thanks again!

Command-r does not work on a 10.6.8 system, you would need 10.7 Lion or better to do. If you try to install a new system and that you have already downloaded, then go to your Applications folder and double-click "install OS X...". »
