Moving VMs to different vCenter using SRM + RecoverPoint

I need to spend 5 virtual machines to a different data center permenetly. The good news is these virtual machines are already protected by 3.4 SP1 RecoverPoint and Site Recovery Manager 5.0, because we already have replicate them I'm working on a way to swing these VMs, reverse the RecoverPoint replication and pretty much swap around, so they are replicated to the initial data center.

I just installed SRM 5.0 so we continue to use its latest features, but I assume that what I said above is actually possible? Perhaps he might not be as clean I hope, but at least I wouldn't be able to do the following? Keeping in mind, if this fails, we would just go back to how it was.

1. run the failover plan that will recover virtual machines to the new data center

2 reverse replication in RecoverPoint, making the new primary data center

Is this possible?

The old production VMs is converted into placeholder VMs. The point behind this conversion is that identity of the virtual machine does not change when you cycle complete (failover from A to B, Reprotect to B, B to A failover). It should all work modulo any RecoverPoint questions and / or ODA I mentioned. Incidentally I have never worked with RecoverPoint SRA, so that part is purely speculative.

  • Licensing vCenter with SRM

    Hi all

I seem to be going round in circles with this question - I have read the documentation and recorded a call with the service the customer on this subject, and the answers are contradictory to say the least...

We seek to implement a SRM solution in a new infrastructure - essentially a management cluster will use SRM failover management of virtual machines to a domain protected to a DC recovery in another city controller.  The DC recovery will be dark for normal operations, only more direct when MRS. failover occurs and will not host virtual machines.

The question I have vCenter licenses of MRS. The documentation states that, during failover of a vCenter server from a site protected for a recovery site hosting any other virtual machines, only 1 vCenter license is required. However the VMware licenses team said the 2 licenses are required for automatic restoration of VMs for the protected site of origin once he recovered.

So, who is? Any thoughts anyone (who is not a dealer or someone trying to sell me licenses)? Happy qualify points if necessary to answer the question...

    See you soon.

    Jeremy.

the vcenter in Dominican Republic must be put under tension and linked with the SRM server of the RD, in this scenario, it's actually light and 2nd license is necessary.

  • Redundansy vCenter by SRM

    Hello!

I have vCenter VM on the ESXi host. I can create redundancy by MRS vCenter?

For example, if ESXi host with vCenter server VM failure, can SRM start VM vCenter on another ESXi?

    Thank you.

All first use SRM you will need a vCenter Site recovery too, and on recovery in protected site vCenter, SRM will be repeated this virtual machine on the recovery as a normal VM site.

  • The steps required to perform a migration to a new server vCenter using distributed switches?

We are currently on version 5.1 of vCenter and ESXi 5.1 on all our guests.  We use a vDS on our current server vCenter and will need to migrate to a new server vCenter soon.  Is there a documentation about the steps to migrate to a new server vCenter using switches distributed?  We hope to achieve this goal without any downtime.  The problem is that we need that VDS on our 10GB network for the aggregation of links.  If having to migrate guests at standard switches before moving them to the new vCenter server, there will be problems of network performance.

Because information about your environment are stored in the database of vcenter al you should just be able to stand up the new vCenter server and that it points to the existing database

  • Restore backups of data to different vcenter server recovery

    Hello

We have separated closed vCenter in our society in different places, I'm just starting to use Vmware Data Recovery instead of VCB for backups. Is it possible to restore the backup of Vmware Data Recovery of Virtual Machines to a different vCenter Server?

If you can, you could point me to documentation that shows how?

    Thank you

    Glenn

You can create another device VDR with the same data from disk (or NAS share).

Then connect to this device (you can also use the VDR plugin when you are connected to a host, not only when you are connected to vCenter) and wait until it import the backup catalog.

  • How to configure the different VLANs (using the E3200)?

    Hello.

I want to implement different VLANs (using the E3200) so that I can have two different networks that cannot access each other.

The E3200 is connected to a modem for internet access.

I would like that the two networks to access the internet.

The only E3200 does support the creation of VLANs?

If not, is there another way I can satisfy the requirement by using the single E3200 (using something else than VLANs)?

At the end of the day, I think that I would need at least another router.

    Thus, for example,.

Router a (E3200) is connected to the configuration / modem to DHCP with a rank 192.168.1.1/24 LAN IP address.

Router B is connected to the router and Setup for DHCP by using a LAN IP range 192.168.2.1/24.

This peripheral way connected to the router A should not have access to devices connected to router B and vice versa, correct?  For example, X device connected to the router cannot ping or browse files on the device is connected to router B and vice versa, correct?

Do I need to configure anything else on router B?  For example, do I need the DNS configuration settings so that devices connected to router B can connect to the internet without problem?  Do I need to specify that these VLANs are not bridged and which router, or both?

I already know how to configure a static IP address, DHCP, beaches LAN IP and static DNS settings on a router, etc.

With respect to wireless devices, I think that they would follow the same model; for devices connected to the router wireless (E3200) have access to other devices Wi-wired and connected to the router, but not to devices with or without wire, connected to router B and vice versa.  However, if the wireless devices have currently access to wired devices was also connected to the router, so it's good for now.

    Thank you very much!

    -Rami

The E3200 has no support VLAN according to the manual. There is no way to configure two separate networks with this single router.

You need to add network electronics.

    Ex:

    Managed with VLAN switch

    Another wireless router with VLAN

If your modem provides several public or private IP addresses, then you could put a switch after the modem and two wireless routers that are attached to the switch.

  • The strange thing is that, when you go and try to remap the drive, it shows that the drive letter is mapped to a different drive used to be shared on the server?

I am running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit in a dish netwrok with no announcement. I can map drives on the server without any problems and everything seems fine. Then after a few hours it seems to lose the mapping on the drive. There are two mapping drives and he loses a. It will show in my computer as being mapped, but you cannot access it. You can connect to the mapped drive on bringing the command run and typing in the UNC path in.

The strange thing is that, when you go and try to remap the drive, it shows that the drive letter is mapped to a different drive used to be shared on the server? Once you tell to remap things in car are fine for a few hours.

My question is where and why it does this?

    Thoughts?

    Thank you

  • To connect to vCenter using the same Session with PowerCLI

    Hi all

Is it possible that we can establish multiple connections to vCenter using the same session with Powercli.

    As connect-viserver-Server "vcenter1" - domain\domainacnt of the username-password "Password".

is to establish several connections and we want to limit, because we are in the process of report generation based on the web developing using Powercli with IIS.

    Please suggest.

You can use the Session parameter on the cmdlet Connect-VIServer .

I use this for the PowerShell Workflows, see workflow of PowerShell and PowerCLI

  • I can't connect to Vcenter using vsphere client

I installed vCenter 6.0 and vsphere client 6.0. I can connect to the web client, but when I am connected to vCenter using vsphere client I got error.

In vsphere version 5.5 I can connect to vCenter using vsphere client 5.5.

I can't find any information on this subject on vmware.com.

Do vsphere 6.0 support connecting to vCenter using vsphere client?

I guess you are using Vsphere Client beta built which has only the features of client enabled host.

Try GA build Client to connect to vCenter. However, the latest vsphere 5.1 leave are available only in the web client.

  • vROPs and SRM - protected Machines and placeholder VMs have different guest free space operating system

    Hi all

Question: Home - health - screen 'one or more machines virtual comments file systems are running out of disk space' has different values for MRS. protect VMs and VMs placeholder.

Someone has to meet a gap with machines SRM protected value of free space of different OS comments that the position expressed VM?   I've been enforcing a cleaning of the guests with < 5% free space.  When we clean up the comments, the alert is cleared almost immediately on the VM protégé (power on), but the position expressed VM is never a present according to vROPs value.

Is this a known issue? Is the problem with SRM or vROPs.  Are the vCenters related with MRS supported?

I'm under vRops 6.2.0.3528905 build 3528905.  We use array based replication and have a GB link between sites.  Replication occurs in less than 5 minutes, so this shouldn't be a problem.  I can still see the question once a day and VMS space have yet to synchronize or to get close in value to their counterpart protect VM.

    Thank you

    Luis C.

So after a discussion with the SRM team and vRealize Operations Manager, has identified vRealize treated VMs placeholder as ordinary VMs.   The interesting thing is that when a failover test is running that hard drives are connected to the VM placeholder.  All the information from disk are ingested in the vCenter site recovery.   Later this was my problem.  I had to open a feature request.  If any of you are in the same boat please do the same so they'll add logic in to MRS.   At the moment my solution was to create a dynamic group for turning off VMs and join the dynamic group to a policy with disabled alarms.

  • Cannot access ESXi host in Vcenter after moving to accommodate different subnet

I moved a different host EXSi 5.5 on a new subnet at a physical site.  The host has been identified by IP not the DNS name.  After the start of Vcenter, I realized my mistake.  The host is always identified by the old IP so it appears as disconnected.  I was hoping I'd be able to simply change the identification of IP address, but have not been able to see how to do this.  I also tried to remove the host (this configuration has a data center and a host), but I can't do it.  I can't add the host (with the new IP address) I get an error message that the data store is identified with the original host.

Is there an easy way to this?

Welcome to the community - you need to remove the old entry in your inventory (using the command delete inventory) and then re-add the ESXi host FULL domain name.

I also moved it to a more appropriate forum-

  • Interesting Situation - migration of VMs to a vCenter to a 6.0 5.0 device using VR

I'm curious to know if anyone has used VR to move virtual machines to a vCenter 5.0 (5.0 ESXi) vCenter equipment 6(6) ESXi using VR. Note: The web client is not installed on vCenter 5.0 and two of the 3 groups that hold the candidates to migration are enabled for MRS.

VR is supported only replying to the same version of VR (for example 5.5 to 5.5) and VR can be installed only on the corresponding version of vCenter (for example on 5.5 5.5). If unfortunately your idea won't work.

Is it possible to update 5.0 6 environments?

  • VMS in the configs using different hadrware

    Hello

I am planning to buy a PC (at home) the next few days. The plan is to install a version of VMWare Server on Windows XP. It will probably take 1.x. There is too much yet, I do not on 2.x. An additional plan is trying to install ESXi at some point, if I'm lucky and the actual hardware is supported. In the end, I intend to stick with the solution, I feel more comfortable with (server or ESXi).

In any case, I have a few questions about this. I'm buying a Phenom II AMD or an Intel Quad Core processor at the moment (trying to find a good solution market). At some point in the future, maybe in a year or so, I plan on upgrading to i7, assuming that prices are falling, etc.. If I set up some virtual (Win and Linux) machines with current PC, how it will be difficult for "transfer" them to the i7 in the future (assuming that the hardware will be supported by ESXi at least, but that's another issue)? More precisely:

-How is it difficult to transfer an existing ESXi virtual machine from AMD to Intel processors?

-Is it difficult to transfer an existing VMWServer 1.x or 2.x virtual machine from AMD to Intel processors?

-Is it difficult to transfer a VMWServer existing 1.x or 2.x - virtual machine for ESXi?

The same questions apply to the improvement of Quad-core i7 too. I ' sure that some plans 'transfer' will not be a sinecure, but if one of the solutions is completely impossible and requires a reinstall of VMS, it is certainly important to my decision. "

    Thank you.

How is it difficult to transfer an existing ESXi virtual machine from AMD to Intel processors?

It is mainly a question of the guest OS used.

If the guest (such as most Linux distributions) uses an optimized kernel using specific features of the UC prompt very probably crash.

Windows systems are usually not affected by this unless there is an application that makes use of special features.

So to transfer prompted a * nix, you must install a suitable kernel (widespread) before the transfer.

How is it difficult to transfer an existing VMWServer 1.x or 2.x virtual machine from AMD to Intel processors?

    See above

How is it difficult to transfer a VMWServer existing 1.x or 2.x - virtual machine for ESXi?

If the client is configured to use the SCSI drives, because it is easy just to export and import the disk.

If the customer uses virtual IDE disks, you must convert these too - VMware Converter fact that you provided the converter is supported by the guest operating system.
