  • Help please - recover Vista Activation key

The two HARD drives on my son Jonathan HP laptop recently became corrupt and then dead beyond resuscitation (according to two disc test utilities).

A few years ago, we bought the laptop for him.  I removed the wrong drive and formatted backup drive (because there are corrupted files), and since it does not create the rescue disks, I installed my old copy of Vista Home Premium 64.  The computer that I installed initially this O.S. has since been wiped and a new copy of Windows 7 was installed.

The sticker with the original serial number / activation key # on the back of the laptop of Jonathan carried through beyond being readable.  However, the serial number of HP is still readable.

    1. How can I retrieve the original key to the original installation of Vista 64 Home Premium?

    1. work this key with the installation of my Vista installation disc anymore?

    2. If an answer to Q1 is not available, can I use my older disk of Vista 64 Home Premium laptop of Jonathan key successfully can continue to receive vital updates?

    3. If the answers to both 1 & 2 are negative, Microsoft will release a new key/activation code, and if so, where should I go to acquire it?

Thanks in advance for any help on this!

    Hello

Microsoft will not replace your lost on an HP machine pre-installed product key

support comes from HP for this computer not microsoft

If a computer came preinstalled vista dell HP etc it is selected as an OEM license and is linked to the original computer it is installed on and is not transferable

When the computer dies dies of windows with her license

He bought a retail vista license yourself it is transferable

but you must still know the product key

and it can only be installed on a computer at any time

but as you never said what kind of vista licenses you have read the above and decide what licenses you have

and if the hard drive has been wiped and the product key sticker is unreadable we cannot help you recover a product key

If your son's computer came with preinstalled vista application to HP you send for her recovery disks

normally is not required during their use product key entry

    BUT ask 1 HP

  • Windows Vista activation key is invalid.

We've had this laptop for about 3 years now.  We recently had to take in our repair guy and he re-installed Windows Vista for us.  The laptop worked great since then (several weeks) until the end of last week.

We started getting a pop up notice to activate Windows.  I was hesitant to click on it until I could talk with our guys from the computer.  In the meantime our wallpaper would disappear anytime we stop or restart the machine.  Then this morning when I started the computer upwards the lower right got the message: "Windows Vista (TM) Build 6002 this copy of Windows is not genuine".

I called our repair guy and he said that happens sometimes with a re - install.  He said to go and activate Windows.  When I do, before I even get to a place to enter the activation key, the box that opens shows "Windows Vista home premium product key you typed is invalid for activation".

It follows with the options: "Buy a new product key online", "Type a different product key" or "Contact Microsoft to help solve this problem."  I chose the second option, using the product key on the bottom of our machine and got the message "the product key you entered is not a valid Windows Vista product key.  Please check your product key, and then type it again. "I checked the key and spruced up and got the same message.

Can someone help me please understand what is the problem and how to fix it?  Or at least provide a way to talk to a living person as the "Contact Microsoft to help solve this problem" option in my head of activation window me to a page that had me trying to activate, which opened in the same window that I had already opened.

So, after all the time that I spent to fight with this problem and check and recheck the product key, it seems I should actually check the prescription of glasses - I was confused with a 'B' for '8 '.  Once I typed the key * correctly * everything was fine.  I even restarted my computer twice to be sure that all "stuck".  Sheesh, I feel stupid.

    Thanks for your help. :-)

  • Windows Vista activation key issues

I have a Toshiba laptop, has problems with the firewall and had to take it to get fixed and when I got back with him all my stuff on Microsoft Word is "locked." I can't access any of my stuff out there, it's wanting to enter me an activation code to activate it. My laptop came with Windows Vista already installed and when I received the product key on the back of my computer to activate it again once it says it is incorrect.

Is there anything else I should do? The only disc that came with the computer is one that installs everything here from scratch, I need to use?

    Thank you

If you mean that you can not turn on, try to do it manually:

To activate manually, go to start, search, and type in slui 4 enter.  Enter your country and press Next.  You will be on a screen with a phone number and a bunch of codes below.  Dial the number and browse automatic guests until you get to a human being.  Have your handy product code because it will be asked.  Explain the situation, but it's the same PC and only installed on this PC.  They should give you a code to enter on this screen to activate Vista.

To solve the real problem (if even the activation group will not help because of this), repost the genuine advantage Forum at:http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/genuinevista/threads.

    I hope this helps.

  • Problem Windows Vista activation key

Thus, Windows Vista requires a product key, but because I couldn't find one, I had a windows 7 one.

I type in the product key windows 7 and it's not accept it. What can I do? Is it possible for me to just use the windows 7 one?

This link takes me to a full retail for WIndows 7 package, which means you should have disks of Windows 7 right at your fingertips.

You can do an upgrade installation with a full license of Windows - or a clean installation - no problem.

If you want to do an installation clean (which I recommend), simply to boot from the DVD and the installation and use the custom option.

If you prefer to do an upgrade, and then start Windows and start the installer from there, choose the upgrade option.

  • Windows activation key is do not qualify

Previous post stated that I could not locate Windows Vista activation key. I found the key, when I enter it I get the message "Software Licensing Service reported that the license evaluation failed. Suggestions please.

Before this AM, I had no problem, the computer is almost 4 years now. This AM, I received a disk error message and the computer "repaired" himself. Now I get the message that Windows is not activated.

The key on the COA sticker on your computer is not really designed for activation. It's just a technical formality. Computer manufacturers main Windows installations come pre-activated by using what we call 'SLP' aka the pre-activation locked system. This system uses the computer's BIOS, a special OEM key and a special certificate of OEM to activate the computer. If any of these items are deleted, corrupted, damaged, or changed... Windows may ask to reactivate, as he lost his pre-enabled state.

Without recover your computer to a factory State, it can be difficult to get the system re-activated. Using the HP Recovery Manager or HP recovery to the recovery disks, the computer will be solove this question, but you will need to re-install all your software-at the factory, the updates of Windows and also back up and restore your personal data.

    Please send Bravo

  • I have a computer that runs XP and used to run on Vista. The computer came with an activation key for Vista. What should I do if I want to return it to Vista?

I bought a brand new computer, so I can't remember if it came with a Vista installation CD or if this content is available online. As far as I know, the activation key was initially registered under my name.

Also, if I succeed at, go back to what it will do for installed programs. Should I install them again? What about programs that come with a limited number of licenses, as a McAfee antivirus?

    Hello

If you reinstall vista, you must reinstall all THE programs

Here are the different ways to reinstall Vista

Contact the manufacturer of the laptop computer and ask them to send you to vista recovery disks to reinstall the operating system back as it was when you bought it

they do it for a nominal cost of $

    ____________________________________________________________

also ask them if you have a recovery partition on your hard drive to get back to the way you bought

you would normally press F8, F9, F10 or F11 or Alt + F10 or 0 to start to start the recovery process according to the manufacturer

Ask them of the exact key sequence

    __________________________________________________________

or borrow a vista microsoft dvd; not a HP, Acer recovery disk etc

Make sure that you borrow the correct 32-bit or 64-bit microsoft dvd to your computer

they contain all versions of vista

This is the product key that determines which version of vista is installed

  • XP activation key does not not on the machine which was previously lowered the mark to Vista Business.

I have a machine that came from Dell with an OEM of Windows Vista license and was demoted to XP and given a valid XP key.  The machine has been turned on and updated normally with this key.  Due to viruses and malware, the owner of machines wants to perform a new installation of XP.  I have Windows Vista Business key and the key XP Pro that was published during the downgrade.  Trying to install XP Pro I get to the point of activation, and the key is rejected.  When you try to call and explain the situation, I am sent to the support tech then asked to pay for support, as they cannot help me.  I do not pay for support when all I want to do is accept a XP key that was obtained legally through Microsoft downgrade policy.  Hardware wise, nothing has changed in the machine, why is rejected the XP key, which was published by Microsoft?  Thanks for any thoughts on this.

If Dell provides you with downgrade XP Dell support is required to provide support.

  • Home Basic activation key for Windows vista

When I want to buy a key for activation of basic Windows Welcome microsoft vista, I need for windows 10, I want to receive Windows vista on the old laptop Acer 3680, any help would be appreciated, thanks.

    Hello

    Microsoft sells more than Vista.

You should try amazon.com, etc. to buy Vista.

But be very careful to buy pirated software.

Normally the Acers come with preinstalled operating system and the product key on the COA sticker attached to the machine

    See you soon.

  • After the system restore, I get "windows vista product key you typed is invalid for activation.

I had to do a system restore a few weeks, now I start and get the message "the windows vista product key you typed is invalid for activation" but he worked for 4 years. now HP tells me I pay $ 130 move to 7 since vista is old.

    Hello, Phindude13,

    ) Click the Start button

    (2) type: slui.exe 3 and press the Enter key

    (3) enter the product key from the sticker on your computer

    4) click on the next button.

    (5) you will be asked if want to enable, click ok

    (6) it will attempt to activate over the Internet and will return an error of invalid key (it of ok, go to step 7)

    7) click the Start button

    (8) type: slui.exe 4 and press the Enter key

    (9) select your location from the menu drop-down and click on the next button

    (10) the next screen provides the number to call to activate by phone

NOTE: when you call this number, you will first hear an automatic voice who will try to activate Vista for you. If the automated voice gives you an option to speak to a representative of Activation Live, select this option. If this is not the case, do not enter all the numbers. This should force the voice automated transfer you to a Live Activation Rep. trying to activate through the automated voice will not work, in your case, your Activation will be successful only through the Live Activation Rep.

Once completed, you may need to restart twice.

  • Activation key for Vista will not work

Re-installed Vista (valid copy) 3 times on different computers in the House and then tried to intall on your laptop - now the product key does not work. So rather than buy a new product key for Vista, I prefer to get Windows 7 but do not want to spend $$ if he's not going to work. The laptop is stuck on activation without another internet access a screen that direct me to Microsoft to buy a new product key for Vista. Try to install Windows 7 with a drive will overwrite all this nonsense Vista activation?

    Hi joelmc26,

If you have a product key then this "only" usable on computer product key "a". If you used the key poroduct to simultaneously install Windows on 3 different computers you're wearing violation of your license agreement. To be honest, if you do this, then I'm surprised that you got that day. If you install windows on another computer "you" he remove it completely from the previous computer.

This error message receive you about activation? Already used, for example product key? To obtain the active product you must telephone Microsoft. See this link from my Web site:http://vistasupport.mvps.org/product_key_already_in_use.htm the service is automated, but you will get finally a 'real' person, if you carefully follow the instructions on my Web site. If you use the same product on three different computers you will not get an activation code. If, however, you have taken off a Windows Vista-based computer and then install on another, then you need to explain it to Microsoft. Then it's support technician if it gives you an activation code. If everything is legal and above all Council then there should be no problem.

In the case of a computer from a major manufacturer contact them via their web site.  Many have recovery media low cost for just the situation you encounter.  Also they can cause (however unlikely) a new product key to replace the one that has rubbed off.  If all else fails see also: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;en-us;326246

  • I changed my computer from XP to vista. How can I get the activation key when Laura by windows vista?

    activation key for windows vista

How you installed Vista as an upgrade on XP or to perform a new installation? Did you use the installation of a media installation upgrading or complete dvd or did you by TechNet or MSDN subscription paying there?

With or without a dvd, you must enter the product key that was included with the media or have bought and downloaded via the store Ms. The product key is usually on the plastic case, the dvd of Vista arrives or accompanies electronic download and is that you enter during the installation/update level or when you use the control panel > system > change the product key to see active Windows.

You'll need a product key valid for the edition in question that you are now going to run.
