  After owning our router (R6300) for a few years, I thought it was time to change the admin password to something more secure than the 'password'. I changed and set up questions for password retrieval, but the new password or the old password works. I seem to be tryingthe correct password, since it confirms it when I get it back.   If does not work, then you need to reset the router without the factory and reconfigure. When you have done this, you will be able to connect with the password by default, but make sure that change you the router default password and default wifi passwords. • Acting wacky homegroup

  I have Windows 7 on my server at home and Windows 8.1 on my laptop.  I installed a printer wireless HP on the server (don't know if are wireless printers "on" a particular computer more, but anyway...) I had several problems with printing to it from the laptop (8.1) and have reduced the problem to a mismatch between the two versions of Windows networking.  Specifically, there seems to be a problem in "Homegroup".

  Initially, the problem that manifests itself as the following on the server error message:

  The Peer Name Resolution Protocol service (PNRPsvc) or peer network (p2pimsvc) Identity Manager service does not work.

  After a lot of research, trial and error, I think I solved this by following the steps listed on this link.  (Specifically, deletion of idstore.sst)

  Now the required services are running, and my laptop says a homegroup is available.  But we are not out of the woods yet. I click on 'register', I enter the password (retrieved on the server by clicking on "View Password"), it whirs and stir for a while, then says "Windows no longer detects a homegroup on that network." I tried the password several times to make sure.  Then, thinking it could be a password too complex for me to type correctly (a lot of 0s and operating system and other things), I went to the server and tried to change the password to something simple.  To my dismay, he came back and said "cannot set up a homegroup on this computer."

  Working groups have been quite complicated.  Now, I have to deal with this BS HomeGroup.  Please advise, it's tax season and I really don't have time for that.

  No you don't need a home group although it is usually an easy way to share files and devices.

  Would you be able to help me more if I had administrative control?  Because the place that did that at my computer only altered my administrative control, if I'm not mistaken it is still mine.

  At this point, you should probably take the computer to the one who did what they did and ask them to retrieve the files for you.
