Hello

Is it possible to run full scan on MSE without apparently keep her.  If I put it to analyze and go outside that is not sleep to increased all when I go home.   I tried with the screen saver turns off but still the same.  Basically, I want to complete sweep out and when I return to full scan not find laptop screen dark and no progress and reconnect and wake up the scan to life. I'm on Windows Home Premium 64. HP Pav6.

Thank you.

Yes, right click on a file or folder and selecting 'scan with Microsoft Security Essentials' in the context menu will undertake an analysis only for this file or folder. Most antivirus programs will allow you to do.

If you use the method in my answer above all computer will be searched for files ending with the .log
extension. .log files may exist in many places that some are created by the other program and not part of
    Windows.

In fact, the best thing to do with the .log files is to leave them alone and let handle them everything that creates
them. 3rd party programs that create a .log file usually include methods to remove or clean them.

    Also occasionally use disk cleanup.

  • Scanning time

I put my MSE to scan Monday @ 18:00 when I leave work. I arrive the next day and it seems it all started. I have the CPU at 100%. Why is this? He said: it did not begin until 08:01 Tuesday morning.

    Could you clarify it please:

Yes. I off my computer Monday so it can analyze.

You answered 'yes' to "Was the computer into hibernation", but the computer started hibernation before the scheduled start time?

If your departure procedure is to put your computer to sleep (or hibernation) by clicking on the Start button, just before you go, why not start the MSE scan manually (Monday) just before leaving and configure the Hibernate to occur after a period of inactivity, rather than undertake manually standby/hibernation.

I entirely freed from AVG Internet Security version on my PC.   Despite being checked in all the right boxes for internet protection that I find that he had not checked ANY of my email accounts.  I have a problem with my hotmail and msn messenger.  I have a person showing a 'friends update"on MSN Messenger, which is not on my list of contacts and get e-mail from hotmail contacts that were pirated.

I contacted AVG who advise me that accounts like Hotmail web-based e-mail, Yahoo or AOL are not protected by their product - but they could be synchronized with windows mail.  Why is this not stated clearly on the box!  The only accounts I have are AOl and Hotmail.  I'm a Windows Messaging account (how?) and how do I syncronise my Hotmail and AOL accounts so that they are protected - thank you.  I use mobile e-mails.

They told me I was the only person having this problem (cough) - my neighbor has a virus sent through his Yahoo account and it is too with AVG.

    Thank you.

Your message is in the forum for the users of the software program anti-malware for Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE).  Your question is clearly with AVG rather than MSE.

According to this thread, you were using MSE on February 21, 2012: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/protect/forum/protect_start/mse-scanning-more-often-than-normal/02789423-dc7d-4ff1-8ee0-e0b2cd5255a1

Here it is March 2, 2012 and you recommend AVG which is fine... it is that you are your option.

Just a reminder (also indicated in this thread Jetta48) that you should not use more than one AV program providing analysis in real time, so if you are now using AVG, I hope that you have uninstalled MSE.

    Kind regards...

  • What anti-virus for Comcast email

I have a Dell OptiPlex 3020 with Windows 7 Pro and recently changed my internet provider Comcast cable.  With cable Comcast is my internet provider, I use their own email Comcast as my e-mail program.  I use the regular version of Vipre as my antivirus.  I was wondering if the Vipre antivirus was check my emails so I contacted Vipre support to see if the Vipre AV was in fact checking my emails.  I was told that it wasn't the support Vipre agent.  So I called Comcast tech support to ask if Comcast was check my email and told me that I have to get their "Constant Protection" program in order to have my verified emails.  One of you have Comcast cable or any provider of cable internet and how are you going to have your emails monitored for virus content.  What programs antivirus will work with Comcast cable to monitor the emails of Comcast.  I would appreciate hearing back from any of you with suggestions on what to do and what might work for me.  I would like to know what antivirus, malware or any other safeguards you use with internet cable operators.  I love the format and layout of the Comcast E-Mail more Windows Live E-Mail and would rather continue to use Comcast email instead of download the Windows Live E-Mail.  Thanks for any help you can give me.

    Pete

Hi Pete, and welcome to the forum.

Analysis of e-mail (as a separate item) is a layer of redundent in AVs these days. It's a little something of scareware used AVs market.

Email infections occur when attachments or links to malicious software are open and written on your hard drive, not when the email is downloaded. If your AV real-time cannot detect malware at this point, his e-mail scanner does not detect it during the download, because both use the same signature database.

I never activated mail scanning in many AVs I used over the years and have never been infected through this vector.

I use Comcast, but doubt that their email should be treated differently. Currently the free AVs of avast and Panda Cloud are recommended by the regulars here. Their real-time protection will protect you from infections of e-mail, even if they do not use a separate email scanner.

  • First time using Windows 7, files in Windows XP, removable disc in the process of disappearance

    Hello

Please note my steps and problems in moving from the personal files of my old Windows XP system to my new Windows 7.
    (1) copy of Windows XP hard drvie files to the removable disk (g)
    2) confirmed all files copied to G:
    (3) connect G: in Windows 7 system
    (4) when I go to computer and select the drive, the top-level folder is empty
    (5) under 'Computer' I confirmed 'free space' on G: is less than 'total size' suggests that there are files on the disk
    (6) I reconnect G to the old XP system and note once again that the folder is empty.  IF this isn't just a parameter "display".  Looks like that Win 7 is deleted or archived the files somewhere.
    (7) with my first attempts, I noticed a dumped error log G complain of FAT32 files.  I tried to convert it to NTFS, but it made the unusable disk.  so I changed.
Is this a possible virus problem?  Some would be with several previous attempts to copy all my files copy and some wouldn't.  I was suspicious of my old XP system so I installed and ran Microsoft Security Essentials.  A MSE scan reported no threats or viruses.  Kaspersky is running on my Win 7 system and similarly reported no problems.
    Any help appreciated.
    Thank you
    Peter.

    Hi Peter,.

Welcome to the Microsoft Community Forums.

According to the description, it seems that you are facing problems with the USB that you get an error message that the disk is unusable after formatting using NTFS. I'll be happy to help you with this problem.

    (1) what is the brand and model of the removable disk?

    (2) you see the removable drive with the assigned drive letter in my computer?

    (3) what is the capacity of the removable disk?

    (4) have tried to check with another removable disk?

    (5) you have the backup of the files on the XP computer?

Wouldn't be a physical damage of removable drive, but with the file system in the removable drive.

Method 1: I suggest you to format the removable in my computer drive, if it is visible. If the format is not successful, I suggest you to format the removable drive using the command prompt.

    (a) click Start, type cmd, right click and select Run as Administrator.

    (b) type format X: (removable X :) drive letter.

Method 2: If the problem persists, I suggest you to contact the manufacturer of the removable drive to get help.

I hope it helps. If you have any questions about Windows in the future, please let us know. We will be happy to help you.

  • Why don't the folder Player\Art Cache\Local MLS \windows\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\App Data\Local\Microsoft\Media have the cover art for all tracks in iTunes

I worked on issues related to the time to do a full scan with MSE.  I discovered that the MSE scan spent 4 hours going through the files in "\Windows\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\App Data\Local\Microsoft\Media Player\Art Cache\Local MLS". With the information of the community, I was finally able to access these files and watch. I was more then a bit surprised to find that the cover is the cover art for tracks I have in iTunes. I deleted some files and found out that the cover for iTunes still works. Windows Media Player is not just music cover art.

So anyone know why Windows Media Player load cover art files on my system for iTunes titles? It loads the same cover for each track in an album don't ask me there are as many files in this folder.

I have disabled the service "wmpnetwk" and if it does not start even when I restart the computer. Once again thanks to the community. So if I just delete these files that will be the end of the matter?

The Player downloads album art to a database online where the information is provided by a variety of non-Microsoft, as AMG data providers.

The Player downloads album art when you rip a CD. To do this, the Player tries to match the CD for an entry in the online database. If it finds a match, the Player automatically downloads the media information that is available for the CD, including album art. In addition, the reader travels periodically your library songs lacking album art. If it can match a song that is missing from the album art to an entry in the database online, the player will download the missing album art. For information about changing how the Player downloads album art and other media information, see the question bring the player to the difficulty of the media information automatically in media information: frequently asked questions.

Why is album art missing sometimes?

The player would not be able to download album art from the database in the following situations:

    • You are not connected to the Internet during extraction of a CD.

    • You are connected to the Internet, but the online database is missing album art (or there is no media information at all) for the CD you are ripping.

    • Your system administrator has prevented your computer to download items such as album art from the Internet.

    • You ripped the CD using one program other than Windows Media Player; doing so could prevent the player from a match in the database online.

Finally, if the online database contains album art wrong for a CD, the Player downloads this pouch.

The following procedures describe the methods that you can use to fix missing or incorrect album art.

My OS is 7 x 64 IE9. I encountered problems when playing Solitaire. When I first play the game the cards shuffle on OK. However, when I click on 'play again' the cards just don't appear - no treatment. another an instance, it is that sometimes she acts like double-clicking on the stack. The final problem is that when I try to cancel a previous round cards he leaves me not go back until I have continually click Cancel.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled the game - nothing changes. I tried to find some tutorials dealing with similar problems - no answers! Thinking maybe it could be a malware issue I ran Malwarebytes with MSE scans and nothing was found. Some time ago I read where some malware exploits solitaire.exe. I don't know if this is the case and the security software cannot detect. FWIW, I also ran SuperAntispyware and the results were negative. Suggestions, anyone?
