• Update of the MacPro early 2008 (many questions-advice welcome)

I have an ATI Radeon 5770 1 Slot PCIe (I have concerns everything) and a 120 GB OWC Mercury Accelsior E2 PCI Express high performance SSD with eSATA expansion Ports - these are not esata port multiplier. I'm not sure what to do with these, they are 6GBs ports. I was thinking about a work drive raid 0 to a port with a couple of SSDS too adequate or sufficient (not sure what size here). I'm owner also already ST2000DM001 of Seagate 2 disc HARD Barracuda 2 TB SATAII 6 GB-s technology 7200 RPM drive naked cover brand new in packaging.

  2. my berries are full of old records.  My system and applications are on a 500GB - I have a 1 to filled with photoshop psd for the most part - files (I just read that it is best to keep the TIFF files as non-compressed and I wonder if my psd files saved can hurt convert tiff files), a 1 TB partitioned into 800 MB for the current photoshop files and 200 for personal documents files I have the original 320 GB I was using as a small raid 0 dedicated to the photoshop file I had open and stops. the 120 GB in the Accelsior of mercury, can I use as a scratch disk. This screwy configuration is in response to my external LaCie recently dying (it's what I wa using machines - (this player been gave me, even though I know better than to buy whatever it is named lacie) I have everything backed up on bluray but I am aware of the precariousness of my set-up.) I have a bootable mavericks and a yosemite bootable on flash drives, but I'm very nervous about my situation as a whole.

  3. so I have a lot of options, not a lot of money and a lot of confusion about the best thing to do now... I need a sustained speed - once is not only fast open - more that I need disk space.

  I am considering:

             purchasing some enterprise hdd on sale (5 x 500GB to 1Tb HDD) and putting them in externally in a safe raid for Time Machine connected to a                firewire 800 port, or I could purchase 2 large 3GBs ssd's and put them in raid1 in my spare optical bay for time machine and then transfer offsite at                regular intervals for storage ( I would transfer the other Time Machine option offsite as well).
            that I will make a fusion with the 120GB and a new HDD for system and put it on the other external esata to take advantage of the 6 GBs. I am                wondering if the size of the HDD would make a significant difference in performance speed. I am also wondering if doing a clean install of yosemite                on a this new fusion drive and then migrating some info from the current system disk would be a good idea, or if a new download of El Capitan                would be best.
            i also need to buy a USB3.0 PCIe card for a couple of peripherals - with each port  powered. - so that also opens up some speed possibilities.

  This graphics card is quite recent and was meant to be compatible with my system - but I do not understand why it is distributed as is and it seems that there is no driver installed on one of the splits. I have not found much info and will contact the customer, but I wonder if anyone has seen this issue.

  I think that the size of your existing disks is actually one of your bottlenecks, so I kinda disagree with your idea that you need speed, more space. Adobe apps like chunks of free space for the use of work records and caches. Your installation seems also too complicated.

  Fast large capacity disks are pretty cheap these days. You can get a TB 6 for $200 Toshiba and put it in a good external enclosure. Also, you should be able to install a HDD 4 TB within a Mac Pro 2008, preferably WD Black or HGST. A good pen for a 4 biggest external to cost in the neighborhood of $75, OWC.

  I don't would not invest in a bunch of young readers, whether they are readers "business" or not.

  My 3 year old Satellite 3000 - X 4 recently died on me (is not even complete the initial BIOS messages) and I would like to be able to dig into it but I can't seem to get the case out despite the withdrawal of all the screws! It seems to be "stuck" in the Middle, is there a hidden screw? Someone knows how to disassemble this laptop or where to find patterns of disassmbly such as another computer laptop producers provide on their Web sites.

  As much as I know there is not any type of maintenance manuals to download. A friend of mine also has Satellite 3000. Maybe it's able to know how to solve this problem. I'll ask him.

  It is also possible that there is a screw placed somewhere on another side.

• Satellite 1905-S277 does not start.

  I have a satellite 1905-S277 and when I push the power button everything begins to start, but it fails. Initially, the hard drive starts but then seems to stop. The power light and the light of the hard drive, but after a few seconds the hard drive turns off light. I can still hear what I believe it's the fan turns. The laptop worked fine right along the. I put here a few months ago and when I went to use it the battery recently died. I have the expense for a few hours then tried to start it and here we are. Good news.

  My laptop did lights not after one of my modules of memory is dead.
  I first checked the simple modules (a removal) and replaced it.
  In my case it helped.

• Satellite A300 PSAJ4e doesn't work if no battery

  I have a toshiba satellite psaj4e. My motherboard (a000032270) recently died so I bought a refurbished.

  After the installation of the motherboard, I noticed that when it is connected without battery, it won't start.
  But with the battery, it starts but does not load when it is turned on.

  If it is off or in standby mode, it charges the battery.
  I also noticed that when I use the sd card reader it charges for the period where the sd light is on...

  Any ideas? I can't reflash the bios cause it requires the adapter...

  Maybe I'm wrong m but looks a bit like a card problem mother are you sure that the purchased motherboard is ok? I would recommend asking the dealer if this mobo has not be rehabilitated.

• HP Pavilion g7-1365dx: wireless keyboard does not work.

  I have a combination and connected mouse microsoft wireless keyboard to my laptop.  The mouse recently 'died' and replace the batteries with new Energizer batteries did not help.  I bought a new Logitech mouse and installed the new USB connector and the mouse worked flawlessly.  However, the wireless keyboard does not work now.  If I reinstall the 'old' or the original USB, the wireless keyboard connector works fine.  The new mouse does not work with the original USB connector.  So now I have two USB connectors that are connected to the computer to make the functional keyboard and mouse.  Is there a solution to eliminate one of the USB connectors?  I realize that the brand of the mouse and keyboard are different.  This is the problem and if so can it be fixed?

  Well, you answered your question yourself. They are different products, so you need 2 USB receivers.

  The alternative is to get a replacement of microsoft mouse if it is still under warranty, they usually do.

• I have a Sony HDR - HC3 HDV and want to download only the parts of a video

  I have been using a Sony HDR - HC3 Handycam HDV1080i VCR for many years and have been able to download parts of a video on the part of the band whenever I wanted to.  The camera recently died and I replaced it with an exact version that I still had the band to download videos, so I decided to buy a used recorder which manages the same MiniDV tapes.  When I go to download the only now allows me to download the whole band or nothing.  Someone can explain why this is and is anyway to download portions at a time?   I save machines under tension and can pass from one to the other before I had a chance to download them.

• How to obtain a backup copy of Windows XP due to move on to another PC

  My PC Gateway 2002 recently 'died' because the hard drive crashed and I moved to an iMac and recently installed "Parallels" to allow me to run Apple applications and Windows.  My original CD of Windows XP operating system has been damaged which prevents me from installing Windows XP.

  If you are referring to a gateway OEM Windows XP CD, it cannot be installed on a different computer anyway.

• HP Officejet Pro 8610: Printer paper mangles

  I bought a HP Officejet Pro 8610 a few months ago to use mainly for scanning and copying for a home business.  I could not get the printer to print a sheet of paper without deformation of paper and printing things on an angle.  I use paper nine of a ream of fees.  I tried to reload the paper, using less paper in the tray, using more paper in the tray, etc.  My main Canon printer has recently died, and now I have to be able to print business documents and controls on my HP printer.  Any suggestions?

  The HP 8610 can care for the moisture content of the paper, or maybe the printer doesn't like the weight of the paper you are trying to use.  This is the simpler, more straightforward answer.

  Assuming that you selected correctly before the type of media in the printing preferences for the printer knows what kind of paper to expect and how to react - the printer is maybe not able to manage this particular test.  If this is the case, and regardless of the perception of the quality of the paper, there is no way to force the printer to accept this document.  It is not a question of "bad paper" - it is a question of how the printer sensors respond to the book.

  Beautiful paper is not always equal paper which is printed on each printer.  HP printers are not the only picky ones in the world.  All printers of high quality can respond to the report in this way.  You don't have to use paper HP, is told by the way.   Try different papers.  Place this paper somewhere cool and dry to store and try again later.

  Hi my sony vaio vgc - v2m HDD recently died and was replaced. Unfortunately the cd supplied with the machine has been moved (I moved house twice since the purchase of the vaio!).

  My question is how can I reinstall windows xp and have legally activated?  I still have the original product identification code, can I install out of any windows disk and enter my code?

• the upgrade card mother DM3-Pavilion

  My 4 year Pavilion dm3, recently died on me. It's a little elegant machine, I wanted to wear around and who was always OK for occasional daily tasks. For these reasons and others, I would at least try to replace the defective motherboard and revive.

  The model I bought is a dm3-1003tx exotic model (bought in Thailand, especially with a keyboard QWERTY/thai), with Intel SU7300 and discrete nVidia GeForce G 105 M graphics chip.

  Given that the original motherboard is not easy to find (PN 584079-001, only a couple of bids on ebay of the Japan), can someone tell me:

  -If it's OK to replace it with an another based SU7300 of motherboard (can be with or without the nvidia chip - I really don't need it).

  -or even better upgrade to a motherboard of SP9300 based to get a performance gain? If so, should I expect any change (it looks that the consumption of energy and the frequency of the buses are higher with the SP9300 then maybe RAM...?)

  Is there any tool available around compatible HP part numbers?

  No, there is not a matrix of cross, useful reference because it would be. I think that HP is simply too many different models and parts for someone to keep track of it all. HP Service is inspired by replacement with the same part number so their internal service people wouldn't even have much use for such a thing, just us end users.

  Motherboards have the processor soldered to the and there is only a single part number for the fan/radiator Intel stated so I would say that if you replace your motherboard with it:

  580663 001

  with the SP9300, you'll be able to reuse your fan/radiator. In the case where you don't have it here is the repair:

  All models use the DDR2-800 memory and accept up to 8 GB. Different motherboards all seem to have the same ports and such and will have the same anchor points. You could even theoretically install a card mother AMD-based, but this would require to reinstall an operating system, and I wouldn't trade an Intel processor for an AMD processor in any case unless AMD have been much cheaper. A Committee from AMD would also require a different radiator, however.

  My computer recently died - a brand name (Packard Bell) for a large chain (PC World) c/o a framework legal and paid for copy of Vista OEM * spit *. I replaced the dead PC with a skeleton system and what I picked up on the PC dead worked very well - EXCEPT FOR WINDOWS which required activation within 3 days. The position of Microsoft, I have to contact the seller, so I did. They said that it is down to the manufacturer... which, as expected, directed me to the seller. Because failure is clearly of Microsoft, I would like an answer from Microsoft (as indicated by the name of the site) as opposed to a pretext for Microsoft.

I had previous problems with graphics on flaws cards, having recently die completely with the stick of a RAM. Having replaced the two I didn't have these problems. Its strange how it happens out of the blue where the rest of the time all is well.

• Old computer is dead, HARD drive still alive. Can I install windows 7 on your new computer without formatting the old HARD drive?

  My old desktop computer recently died of a motherboard failure.  As I understand it, I should be able to install windows 7 from my old computer to the new, but only if I delete the old installation.

  Does this mean that I have to format the old HARD drive?  Because the old computer HARD drive seems to be alive, I would retrieve the data on a new machine first, before I have to format and I need to install windows on the new computer to get the data from the old HARD drive.

  No, it is taken on trust that the old installation is no longer active, there is no mechanism to remove the old license in order to make a valid new. Remove the Windows directory (or rename) makes the old system inoperative.

  You find that the automatic authentication fails on new construction and need to call the licensing Center to check that you have only one installation. Apart from the OEM rules if a license has been activated too often, and recently, it fails in a 1 time.
