My address bar went as icons half dozen of my start page. System Restore does not work. Any suggestions?

I am running Windows XP Home Edition. Read something about a virus 'System Restore' what kind of looks like what happens to me. The computer obviously isn't very useful. It has a line that looks like an address bar, but everything I put in it goes right into the Google search engine

Hello JeffFeeley,

If there is a virus on the system, there may be still on the system security vulnerabilities.  In addition, these symptoms are probably throw-back to have the virus on your system.

Please take a moment to read the following article on the virus removal:

    For general advice, see troubleshooting problems with iTunes for Windows updates.

    The steps described in the second case are a guide to remove everything related to iTunes and then rebuild what is often a good starting point, unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach.

    Review the other boxes and other support documents list to the bottom of the page, in case one of them applies.

    How can I get the airplay icon to appear? Changing the settings of firewall does not work

    Hello Drjoe378,

    I understand that you do not see the AirPlay icon in iTunes on your Mac. If you have verified that your firewall is disabled or that the problem occurs regardless of the status of your firewall, there is a little more that can help return your ability to connect to AirPlay devices.

    1. Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes and Apple TV software.
    2. Connect your computer and other devices on the same network Wi - Fi. If you are using Ethernet, connect the two devices on the same router or hub. If you use the Wi - Fi and Ethernet, plug your device AirPlay the same router that your computer uses for Wi - Fi.
    3. Restart your computer, device AirPlay and network router.
    4. Because some Airplay devices include a power switch for AirPlay option, look for the option in the settings and make sure that the feature is enabled. Refer to the user guide of the device for more information.

  • When I call a file in firefox, the address bar inserts a backslash (\) before the name of the file and it does not load

    When I call a bit files in a backslash is inserted during the loading of firefox (http://razorbackpark.com/%5Chole17.htm). Therefore it will not load. If I manually enter the file in the address bar, it loads very well. How can I fix this behavior?

    Hi LTCreations, glad to hear that worked. It seems clear some cobwebs that cannot be offset by other menu items, but I have not studied precisely the difference.

    This system was given to me the difficulty.  It is clean of viruses and spyware, it was at a time given some.  Now unable to connect to any type of network, IPs as 0.0.0.0, will not be renewed.  Get dependency errors when I try and start TCP/IP.  I reset the winsock stack.  Any suggestion at this point would be useful.

    If restore work not and you do not have a Vista DVD from Microsoft, do a repair disc to do a Startup Repair:

    Download the ISO on the link provided and make a record of repair time it starts.

    Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

    At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.

    When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.

    Link above shows what the process looks like and a manual, it load the repair options.

    NeoSmart containing the content of the Windows Vista DVD 'Recovery Centre', as we refer to him. It cannot be used to install or reinstall Windows Vista, and is just a Windows PE interface to recovering your PC. Technically, we could re-create this installation with downloadable media media freely from Microsoft (namely the Microsoft WAIK, several gigabyte download); but it is pretty darn decent of Microsoft to present Windows users who might not be able to create such a thing on their own.

    Read all the info on the website on how to create and use it.

    ISO Burner: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/active-isoburner.html

    It's a very good Vista startup repair disk.

    You can do a system restart tool, system, etc it restore.

    Data recovery:

    1. slave of your hard drive in another computer and read/save your data out there.

    2. put your Hard drive in a USB hard drive case, plug it into another computer and read/save from there.

    3 Alternatively, use Knoppix Live CD to recover data:

    http://www.Knopper.NET/Knoppix/index-en.html

    Download/save the file Knoppix Live CD ISO above.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm
    Download the Vista software from the link above.
    After installing above ISO burning software, right click on the Knoppix ISO file > copy the Image to a CD.
    Knoppix is not installed on your PC; use only the resources of your PC, RAM, graphics etc.
    Change the boot order in YOUR computer/laptop to the CD/DVD Drive 1st in the boot order.
    Plug a Flash Drive/Memory Stick, BOOT with the Live CD, and you should be able to read the hard drive.
    When the desktop loads, you will see at least two drive hard icons on the desktop (one for your hard drive) and one for the USB key.
    Click on the icons of hard drive to open and to understand which drive is which.
    Click the icon for the USB drive and click on "Actions > Change the read/write mode" so you can write to disk (it is read-only by default for security reasons).
    Now to find the files you want to back up, just drag and drop them on the USB. When you're done, shut down the system and remove the USB key.
  • Select icon workstation: so, 'aid', so: "Help and Support Center" - > does not work.
    When I select "Help and Support Center" with Microsoft, I get the error message: "Windows cannot find helpctr.exe.
    Can I reinstall anything from Application or system recovery disks - or download the Microsoft HELP?  -
    Or can only be re-established by dong RESTORATION?   Thanks for you help... ~!
    Do you mean you see a message like this:
    Windows cannot find 'helpctr.exe.  Make sure you typed the name correctly and then try again.  To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click search.
    The Center help and Support sometimes get broken with overzealous cleaning and there are a lot of things to 'try' who sometimes work and sometimes they are not. Sometimes people drop everything simply and never reuse Help and Support Center, but it can still be repaired.
    Do you now or nave already used third-party applications on your system where the product description includes descriptive as sentences:
    cleaner, mechanic, detective, doctor, heal, optimize, clean up, tune up, speed up, set towards the top, compact, compress, faster, power, boost, boost, gum, muncher. guaranteed or all that has an icon that looks like a key, the key or the screwdriver?
    We will restore some things in the registry who sometimes kill himself by malicious software or, sometimes, these cleaning programs.
    Before making any changes to your registry (although I hope that this update), make a copy of your registry with this free and popular tool:
    http://www.SnapFiles.com/get/ERUNT.html
    Then go to this page WWW of Riou (thanks, Ramesh).
    http://WindowsXP.MVPs.org/startmenuhelp.htm
    When you click the file startmenuhelp.reg on this page with your browser, you will see a bunch of text which is information of record that you want to apply to your system.  It seems daunting, but it's not so bad.
    Press Ctrl + A to select all the text, then press Ctrl-C to copy the text to the Windows Clipboard.
    Click Start, run, and then in the box, type:
    notebook
    Click OK to open a new Notepad file.
    Press Ctrl + V to paste the information that you copied into the Windows Clipboard in the Notepad file.  Save the new file in Notepad on your desktop and name the new file something he can hold, as:
    startmenuhelp.reg
    Quit Notepad and double click the file startmenuhelp.reg on your desktop and respond in the affirmative to the question about adding information to your registry.
    Test your help and your support now, then restart and test again to make sure that the changes 'stick' with a reboot.
    You can delete the file startmenuhelp.reg to your desktop.
    If that does not do so, you can reinstall the whole (not reinstall XP - just the help and Support Center)
  • The icon is grayed out SAVE and SAVE AS option does not work in my Acrobat Adobe Reader ms
    The record command is grayed out when I open a .pdf document in the Acrobat Reader from Adobe viewer. I used to "save under" once opened, but now this command does not work properly, I think it happened after an updated operating system (windows 10), so I thought it was related to her, but I can tell...
    The keyboard Short-Shift-CTRL-S does not work either... but he used to work and it works with other .doc or .odt files
    The point is: why could I do save and save as when already have the open PDF (pdf viewer) before and now this button is grayed out and cannot save or save as the name more?   • Firefox address bar does not work
    I recently updated my software Kaspersky of Kaspersky Internet Security Kaspersky Total security, 2015 at around the time that Firefox automatically updated from version 35 to 36. I don't know if the update of Kaspersky has nothing to do with the problem, but now the Firefox address bar does not work. I've 'come down' Firefox to version 35, but it still does not work.
    You can add a URL in a window of the Firefox window (Firefox or Google) search engine, and that works, like clicking on the hyperlinks that appear. But the address bar is totally dead! The address in my browser Google toolbar also works OK
    I hope that someone familiar with the operation of Firefox knows how to solve this frustrating problem as I prefer Firefox Google.
    Thanks for the help.
  • How to remove a web address in the address bar drop down list? The old advice does not work. Help!
    The OLD advice for this problem, listed below, does NOT work. Web addresses just do not detach:
    1) click the arrow located on the right side of the address bar of Firefox. A list of URLS will come down.
    (2) place your cursor on the URL that you want to delete manually.
    (3) press and hold the "shift" on your keyboard. Then, press the "Del" key The URL highlighted is removed. Or I have been advised to hold the 'Ctrl' key Neither work.
    There are a few new instructions, updates on how to remove the unwanted drop web addresses. Everyone?
    Hi, if your problem is removal of the history of the site. Click on the firefox menu and go to history-> history-> click history on the left side of the window. Now you can remove unwanted Web sites from the list.
    If you want to delete bookmarks fallow the instructions remove bookmarks
  • The address bar does not work in Thunderbird 3.31
    In TBIRD 3.31, entered an address does not work. Is there a fix, or TBIRD has just been lazy fixing a huge problem in the update. Besides the gray boxes that we seem all to hate, this is what happens. Let's say I want to send an email to David Richards. I go to the first line of the address on my message, type "dav" and four addresses are presented for me to choose... David Elliott, David Richards, David Franks, and David Bloom.
    I click on 'David Richards' and the insert name and e-mail address on the address line 1. I hit TAB or ENTER, to go to line 2, to insert a second address and immediately 'David Richards' is replaced by David Elliott - the first name in the suggestion list.
    Only two workaround solutions are, after you have inserted the correct name in the list, 1) right-click on the 2nd line of the address, or 2) type the name on line 1, so that it is the first choice in the suggestion box until I hit TAB or ENTER.
    This, of course, defeats the function addresses completely automatic filling.
    Lazy Thunderbird HELP. How can you not have noticed and it's already fixed?
    Yes, it's a bug, and no one is being lazy.
    People volunteer their time to bring you a mail client and as soon as there is nothing like a problem, someone is lazy. Seriously, this is not acceptable. Before commenting on the contributions of others, please indicate what your contributions have been.
