My computer crashed; Windows is unusable...

Windows has become corrupted and is now unusable (tech thought it was related to facebook). I have recovery disks; However, when I try to use, the computer hangs right on. The Sony Vaio laptop came loaded with Vista Home Premium, I have no software disc. Make suggestions on how I can get operational back without having to spend hundreds to have a tech?

Contact the manufacturer/party where you bought it. They are responsible for operating system OEM they had you sold.

  • Caused Windows updates computer crash

Anyone else have problems with latest updates (from June 30 to July 10)?  Since June 30, my computer has stopped unexpectedly 5 times.  I ran virus scan, ad-aware, etc.  The only thing that worked was a system restore before June 30.  Unfortunately, Windows automatically updated again and I had the same problems.  I had to remove the updates manually.  Any ideas why this happened?

  • Computer crashed during a windows XP update

I was trying to trouble shoot a problem with a computer that would crash intermittently from time to time.  Put 3 downloaded system update for installation.  I put out of service and some updates to try to make sure I had the latest files.  When installing on 3/3, the system crashed again!  I knew it wasn't good.  I was not able to restart the system.  When I boot it comes up with the windows logo and progress bar, then it stops with a blue screen and the following message.

Stop: c000021a {fatal system error} the System Manager system initialization process ended unexpectedly with the State 0xc000026c (0x00000000 0x00000000).  The system has been shut down.

Is there anyway I can recover from this situation.

I tried to boot from the start with F8 menu.  I chose restore to the last known good state, but not luck.  Are there any other suggestions out there.  XP was preinstalled on the Dell computer.  I is not a MS installation disc, but have the Dell restore disc.  I resisted using it because I think he goes back to the initial state of the computer and I will rebuild the system from scratch.  Inplace installation is a good solution or it just will make worse?  Any help from anyone would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you. -Nat

If by "computer of new beginning" you mean that you have started your recovery or disk restore factory set and reinstalled Windows, then the ability to recover your files is practically zero.  You can try a utility like Recuva (http://www.piriform.com/recuva) but since you have rewritten the entire hard drive, it is highly unlikely that anything will be recoverable.

I don't understand what mean these things or why my computer crashes because of this. also when my computer goes down it will take me to a blue screen crash then it will say something about the memory management caused the crash. Will someone help me by giving me detailed instructions to step by step on how clean/fix this problem?

Blue screens are caused by defective material or defective hardware drivers.

To see if a fix is available

In Control Panel (and select Classic discovered in the left pane) select reports on the problems and Solutions (problem of type in the START search box), go to historical problem, right-click of your error and choose check for the Solution. You can also right-click and choose Details for more information. Post the details here.

To see if any recent system change caused it

In Control Panel (and select Classic discovered in the left pane) choose Administrative Tools and then choose reliability and performance monitor and choose the monitoring tools then the reliability monitor (type reliability in research on Start). This list is a chart of the software installs, uninstalls, updated Windows and crashes by date (scroll left to see earlier dates). See if your plant has started to happen after you installed or uninstalled something.

    Standard hardware troubleshooting

First to test we can the material. Material defects can appear as many software defects, that's why we need to test the material first...

Follow these steps in order. Defects of memory can cause disk corruption, disk failures can cause corruption of the disk. Damaged disc causes corrupted files (which SFC may be able to fix). If you get a stop error and after return. Do not run chkdsk with faulty memory.

    Diagnosis of memory
If you have not run a diagnosis of memory, please do. Click on Start - Control Panel - choose Classic view in the left pane - choose Administrative Tools - then memory diagnostic tool.

In Vista and later if SMART failure predicted Windows prompts the user to run the backup.

    Run chkdsk
In computer all your drives right click and choose Properties, then the Tools tab, and then click check now. Check the TWO boxes and then start. Reset. This will take from one day to the next.

    SFC
Check the alteration of the file by clicking on Start - All Programs - Accessories - right on command prompt and choose run as administrator. Type (or copy and paste by clicking in the command prompt window and choose Paste).

It will be able to see which files are corrupted. We may be able to copy it from another computer.

    Dump files

Dump files are files containing the status of the machine when it crashed. We can analyze the file to identify the driver (or program) causing the accident.

    Analyze dump files
If you want to analyze your own dump files. See below to download for analysis.

You need start exploring as an administrator to access the files in C:\windows\Minidump. Explore a right click and choose run as administrator.

Download and install the debugging tools for Windows
Install Windows SDK, but simply choose the debugging tools.

Create a folder called symbols in C:\

Start Windbg. Menu file - path to the symbol file and enter

    SRV * C:\symbols* http://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols

Close, and then reopen WinDbg. Menu file - Open Crash Dump

It will analyze the crashdump. You must close and reopen WinDbg for each analyzed dump file. Because you download symbols from the internet WinDbg seems to be to do nothing. But it's the download. Be patient.

Looking for a driver or a library system that the incident occurred at the end of the list. Find the file, do a right click then Properties - Details tab. If it shows a driver, you will need to update the driver identified. Most of the pilots are in c:\windows\system32\drivers. If it has a file system see if you can get a program to analyze - v.

Type in the theWinDbg command prompt

    ! analyze - v

-v means Verbose and if the accident was created by a program, as opposed to hardware or a driver, it will appear in the middle of the list.

    Download them for analysis

Or download files minidump to your Public SkyDrive folder and copy the link in the address bar, and I'm going to do an analysis.

SkyDrive is the download file from Microsoft, Windows Live, at https://skydrive.live.com/site.  Read about it at http://explore.live.com/skydrive.

If you downloaded one of the Live applications or a web site based Live mail account, you already have access to your Skydrive.

Put your list of events in the Public folder and copy the link in the address bar.

    How can I fix it?

Assuming that McAfee Security Center is NOT yet installed:

McAfee (and Norton) applications are notorious for not not upgrade (or uninstalling) itself.

    1. download the McAfee Consumer Product Removal, save it to your desktop tool: http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe

    2. close all open applications (that is, anything with an icon on the taskbar).

    3. right click on the file that you saved in #1 above and select run as administrator to run the utility. DO TAP not your keyboard until the race ends, then restart.

    4. do a clean install of McAfee Security Center.

-Online if you purchased your software directly from McAfee, go to https://home.mcafee.com/Secure/Protected/Login.aspx to connect and download your software.

Do you still have the program, but maybe just lost the shortcut for it?

See what you have here, C:\Program DVD Maker, look for DVDMaker.exe.

It may be necessary to show both hidden and system files and also uncheck 'Hide known file types' in Control Panel / folder Options / view to navigate to the specified location.

If you have the .exe, and then you can right-click on the .exe and "Pin" in the Start Menu or use "send to" to place a shortcut on the desktop.

If you type DVDMaker.exe in Start Menu / search box, or men Start / RUN box, which could launch for you.

  • Upgrade to Windows 10 erase all files and programs now on my computer, or make it unusable?

Upgrade to Windows 10 erase all files and programs now on my computer, or make it unusable?  I have since I have not answered on this site, I headed to the computer store, 'Best Buy', to see if their staff or their staff of in-house computer repair people called "Geek Squad" could answer this question.  NONE OF THEM COULD.

Well up to now, I had a lot of problems with windows 10. Some programs do not work. My wireless guard is disconnected. And when I restored it windows 8.1, my browsers did not work. It's just on a single computer. Others have not yet verified, I'm very satisfied with the situation. He also removed my antivirus program.

The biggest problem is with the software I paid for and that you do not have a disk to reinstall. WHY - because today ' today, software publishers want you pay every month, and when things like that, go bad, there is no record of re - install the software. I spent hours trying to solve this problem, but until now I'm waiting for Microsoft's online live chat 194 minutes go.

I would say that they should have ethics applied to developers of software for this kind of things don't happen. How unfair is that they release a product with a ton of bugs simply because developers are too lazy to correct the problems before its release. They must be charged a fine for lack of ethics in programming.

So to answer your question - so far the files are still there, but has great difficulty with the programs works not as they did. In addition, if go back you to an earlier version of windows, it seems that they made it impossible for previous versions to work as before without having to reinstall all the software you have.

I'd wait until they have corrected most of the bugs. I'm stuck, but you're not.

  • WINDOWS MEDIA CENTER - WINDOWS 7 - COMPUTER CRASHES

Whenever I turn on windows media center to watch live TV, after about 10 minutes of watching TV, my computer crashes / turns off.  I have to hold in the power button for a while turns back on after that is the case of the computer. I get no error message, it's just completely off / hangs the computer.

    Dell Inspiron Intel Core duo

    Windows 7 Home premium

I got so sick of this, I spent the last few hours trying all sorts of things.

This seems to have solved that problem.

First of all, I went to my monitor of resources because of the above message on the video memory. I have never in line or running anything while I watched the live TV on windows media center. As I thought, everything was fine. I had a lot of resources free etc, but while watching I noticed my McAfee security software and decided to disable real-time scanning and firewall. (I never try to watch live TV on windows media center all in line.) I always turn off my network card when I'm not online anyway so felt ok with turning the firewall and scanning off.)

And guess what! for the first time since I use Windows Media Center, it has not crashed my computer. So, it looks like Microsoft and McAfee need to understand this. I tested it several times and each time McAfee is on and working when turned off, it blocks. It will be a headache to have to remember to turn it on when I go online and off when I want to watch the tv media Center in windows.

I suggest to have the people to do this step first before making do them all the steps you gave me above.  We hope to see some sort of update of Microsoft and McAfee for this question.

    Hello

Use the other methods here and startup repair to see if you can access more and then
Use the methods in my my 1st answer above and don't forget to launch SFC and CheckDisk. Also you
    can try a repair Installation.

You can try some of them in Mode safe - tap F8 repeatedly that you start.

If you do not have a Windows 7 disc, you can borrow a friends because they are not a copy

Clean Windows. You can also do an ERD on another computer.

Try the Startup Repair - (if at anytime, benefit you from some, but not full access coming to Windows
return and then try to startup repair.)

  • Computer crashes to 2 or 3 minutes after startup, sometimes said "not genuine Windows".

    Hello!
    I have a Toshiba Satellite L750D. Windows 7.
Everything works fine when there is 3 months, I bought the laptop.
A few days ago, it started to happen:
The computer starts correctly, Windows starts up, watch the user login screen. Everything works well so far.
This desktop computer, runs Windows as usual. Two or three minutes later, it becomes terribly slow. So slow that just try to open Explorer takes like 5 minutes... Then the situation becomes unbearable, it's as if the computer crashes.
Then I have to stop it manually (by pressing button On / Off for 5secs).
In another time, share this problem, it appears at the bottom right of your desktop that the copy of Windows is not genuine.
I know that it is authentic, I bought the laptop and I have activated Windows correctly. But hey, this is a minor issue and only happens 1/3 of the time I try to start the computer. The main problem is that Pseudo-gel of infinite of Windows.
Start in Safe Mode does not change the problem at all. It starts well and like 3 minutes later, becomes terribly slow.
I can solve the problem somehow (running antivirus, etc.) because I can't throw soft...
Appreciate your comments on this issue,
    Best regards

    Hello!
Thank you for the comments, but since the computer is a Toshiba, it has a default System Configuration that allows me to restore the laptop in fabric, without having to start windows.
I did, I lost a couple of files, but now everything is ok.

    Thank you
