My computer is running a backup catalog or the catalog 'master '?

Recently I lost a good amount of work I had done in LR after the deletion of a bunch of my backup catalogs. (RAW images are safe, but all settings were gone).  This leads me to believe that the catalog I was running was stored in my folder of backups and he had a name that made me think it was several months, while he was in fact the most recent catalog.

Then... How can I find out where my catalog 'master '?  It doesn't seem to be residing in the User/pictures/Lightroom folder (this file has a 'last opening' date which is since the beginning of August) and when I do a Finder search for the name of the catalog that is running, this file is located in my internal 320/Lightroom backups .  This leads me to believe that I'm turning one of my backups as the "master" file

I want the catalog I work every day to be located in the User/pictures/Lightroom folder and the backup until found in internal 320/Lightroom backups.

Is this a likely risk or is there something in the outline of production of LR that I don't understand?

Thank you

Bruce

Bruce,

It is reasonable, but it is not what you were doing, of course. Backups are just direct copies of the original catalogue. At some point you can double-clicking on one of them, causing it to be opened in Lightroom. Once this happened, this catalogue has become your "main catalogue", i.e. the default catalog LR opens at startup.

Are your deleted catalogs still in the trash? Did you remove all, or is it a recent that you can copy where you want your catalogue to be? If there is, copy it, and then double-click its icon.

  • How to delete a backup image of the computer?

Last week I had to format my hard drive of the PC (I won't go into details, but a certain SQL Server 2008 SP1 was the culprit).

I reinstalled Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit and spent 5 days to install my apps and all the updates of windows (SQL Server 2008 SP1, the exception ;-)).

When I got the message saying that there is no update available, I made a full backup pc on my drive hard usb.

A few hours later, Windows told me there was an update available: nothing less than Windows Vista SP1!

So I downloaded the SP1 and installed.

I didn't want to end up with two all backups of pc (I was sure that SP1 had produced changes to the massive file), so I deleted, from Windows Explorer, computer backup image file in my drive hard usb.

When I ran "backup status and Configuration - backup of the computer", he said that, since there was already a complete pc upward in my drive hard usb (which is not true, I deleted it!), going to back up only new and changed files... I had no other choice, so I made the back up and found it was actually a partial upward (I can tell because the size of the backup, the original was almost 50 GB and the second one was 31 GB).

I went on the MSDN forums and found I could do two things:

    (a) change the registry to remove all values full them pc backup keys.
    (b) format my USB HDD.

I've done both. The second it took me almost all day today (copy + / 200 GB of my hard drive on my HDD to the PC, formatting the USB drive and copy back the +/-200 GB).

When I tried to make my backup of the computer, it says "this computer has not been saved.

I sighed and thought: "it was worthwhile, I will have as a backup of the computer!

But no, it was not to be.

When I arrived at the final stage before actually to support to the top of my pc, the program says "the backup can take up to 55 GB of disk space. "Because a previous backup until already exists... that the differences will be saved."

It makes no sense at all... Did someone there with the knowledge of how to delete a backup image (for good) complete pc so a new (full, incremental) can be produced?

I think that being able to add/remove the backup images is a core feature.

    Thank you for your help,

    Hi Sergio Torres,

Sorry for the delay getting back to you.  I'll pass your program for better Assistant forum post since this is related to a set of program with Vista rather than a security/privacy issue.  We will track a little to the original problem that you can't get Windows backup to recognize the backup of the image has already been deleted and the need to create a new backup full rather than an incremental backup.  Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

It's the MSDN article, you mentioned, correct?
    http://Channel9.msdn.com/posts/keithcombs/Windows-Vista-complete-PC-Backup-and-recovery/

What you have done with success:
1 / deleted the registry key related to Windows backup
2 / use Disk Clean Up tool to remove the backup
3 / appropriate and completely remove the WindowsImageBackup directory
4 / format the USB all together.

If you already completed these steps successfully, then the error will be with a setting in Windows that always store the old backup file list.  I found this suggestion in the newsgroup Vista, give it a shot to see how it goes.

    "Hi Tim,

because the backup is deleted out of band - it is always saved in the backup catalog. This is because the application always displays the text that is incorrect.

It will be first - come back to the full backup if the previous version is not available on the backup location. It is only the user interface that notifies badly as I mentioned above.

If you want the application to forget * all * older backups - you can launch a high command prompt. type the command line-
    WBADMIN delete catalog.

  • The backup catalog

Can someone clarify for me if when to perform a catalog backup only items save the real files, which makes it useless to save the images in a separate backup process.  Or the backup items simply Details of the catalog?

Organizer catalog backup saves not only the catalog (special folder) files, but all of the images and their folder structure. Its purpose is to be able to restore everything from the backup folder to the location of origin or on another drive or computer. The links are restored so that you do not receive the "disconnected" or "missing" files in the catalog. If necessary, the restore process invites you to convert the catalog if you restore to a more recent version of elements.

  • How to restore a backup catalog of my images on a new iMac

I have one all my images of almost 700 GB Lightroom Catalog

I did a backup of the settings catalogue (without images) one day before the death of my old iMac

I also have a backup of the images via Time Machine (made daily)

I bought a new iMac and copied images inside of Time Machine - keep the same folder structure. I also have the settings saved on the new machine Catalog backup.

My question is: in the newly installed copy of LR on my new machine, how can I restore and apply this saved catalog related images which are now on my new iMac?  Can I do a new import of images in LR and then somehow apply the catalog, or I load the catalog and then point it to the pictures, that respect?  I tried the latter and all I get is a screen full of blank thumbnails with question marks on them.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi KurtHeck

    Greetings!

You must open the backup catalog on your new computer.

    • Choose file > open catalog.
    • Navigate to the location of your backup catalog file.
    • Select the backup the .lrcat file and click Open.

If after the opening of the catalogue you found images as missing.

Reconnect your Images in the catalog suite Adobe Lightroom - find folders and files moved or missing

  • Backup catalog is much too large - is it possible to copy a smaller instead?

I just installed PES 13 on a Mac under OS x 10.10. After creating a catalog, I decided to make a backup, but I couldn't believe what happened. It literally took all night for backup to do, and that she consumed 1.5 TB of space on an external drive. It contains a complete copy of each image, which most is larger than 20 MB RAW images. I don't need these images saved - I have already two backups of all original images on different drives - and I can't save another 1.5 TB of disk space for this.

The catalog that organizing PSE actually use - the user > library > file Adobe etc. - is only 900 MB. Of course, it contains copies of all the images. Can I copy this catalogue to a backup disk and send it to users > etc if I need to replace? This will keep information on the sides, version sets and batteries, which is really what I want?

Yes, you can copy your catalog folder where you want as a backup. That will keep everything in your organization. Note the catalog is all the catalog.pse13db database folder and its subfolders and associated files. This folder should not be in the default path, it can be moved elsewhere.

The reason of built-in backup/restore of the Organizer is to provide backup image files and catalogues so that you can restore everything on a new drive or computer, on another operating system or OS version...

If you do not have such a backup, you will be able to restore your catalog and the same disk image files, they are now, no problem. But what happens if your current drive breaks down? You will restore image files and catalogues in another computer... and all the images will be declared missing, given that the new drive not to be recognized. You can use the reconnection of the Organizer function... good luck!

You can also take your backups without a recovery catalog database. The additional advantage of using a database to catalog vs using the controlfile as repository (default average) target is essentially
    >
RMAN automatically manages backup metadata in the database control file is saved. To protect and maintain metadata backup for long periods of time, the RMAN Repository is created in a separate database. This repository is generally referred to as a catalog of recovery. The benefits of using a catalog of recovery include:

    *

    Stores long-term backup information
    *

Store the metadata for multiple databases
    *

Restore a backup available on another system

Another reason to use a recovery catalog is the limited size of the target database control file. If the control file is too small to contain additional metadata from backup, then the existing backup information are crushed, making it difficult to restore and recover using these backups.

Time Machine backup to a sparsebundle.

The sparsebundle will use the share name of computer. So, it should be obvious who is your Macbook and that is your Macpro.

Open the sparsebundle in Finder and keep open the subfolders until you get to the backup of each separate hard drive...

You has of course set the exclusion in Time Machine?

By default, Time Machine will exclude your second drive unless you have included it. Did you?

Once you get to this level during the backup, you can do a full restore manually whenever you want.

    Hello Francesca Montani,.

Thank you for using communities of Apple Support.

Congratulations on your new iMac! I understand from your message that you want to create a backfile to your iPhone 5 c, but are afraid of losing the data on it. I know how it is important for you to keep your data on your iPhone 5 c and to create a backup file for it.

When you plug your iPhone 5 c in your new iMac, iTunes should open. Your iPhone 5 c should also receive a message asking if you trust the computer. Go ahead and trust of the computer.

iTunes should display a page that says: Welcome to iTunes and you give 2 options. You want to choose the option to play up like new. Don't worry, it will not erase anything from your iPhone. The next page, you should see if the page summary of the iPhone. You should see a picture of an iPhone and a description.

In the middle of the right side, you should see a section called manually backup and restore. To create a backup file, select Back Up Now. This article has steps and a picture to help you create an iTunes up. I have also highlighted the steps below:

The backup of your iPhone, iPad and iPod touch

    iTunes

    1. Open iTunes and connect your device to your computer.
    2. If a message asks you to Trust This Computer or device password, follow the steps on the screen. If you have forgotten your password, get help.
    3. Select your iPad, iPhone or iPod when it appears in iTunes. If your device does not appear in iTunes, know what to do.
    4. If you want to save data of health and activity of your device iOS or Apple Watch, you must encrypt your backup: check the box called Encrypt [device] backup and create a memorable password.
Write down your password and store it somewhere safe, because there is no way to recover your backups iTunes without this password.
If you do not need to save your health data and activity, you can make a backup that is not encrypted. Just click Back Up Now.
    5. After the end of the process, you can see if your backup completed successfully in the iTunes preferences > devices. You should see the name of your device with the date and time that iTunes created the backup. If you encrypted your backup, you should also see next to the name of your device.
