  I hope someone here can help me. I tried everything I can.

  Here's the situation. My connection was fine, when suddenly my computer turns off (it's happened). When I turned it back on I had no connection. I ran Network Diagnostics and tried every suggested repair. So I called At & t tech support and we checked everything he could think of. The last thing we did was an "ipconfig" and found that my ip address has been starting by 169. He believed meant that my network card was bad.  Also, after running the network diagnostics, he said "there could be a problem with 1 or more network adapters on this computer.

  I did everything that is obvious.  I ran the ethernet cable directly to the top of the tower.  Ive took my laptop to the library with a free internet connection.  It certainly is a problem in the laptop, not the router or cable or internet service.  I tried a system restore - but he said no changes, I downloaded and reinstalled the driver, I checked that the parameters of intellectual property have been updated with automotive and DHCP is enabled, and I have disabled the firewall. I went to the store and got an adapter wireless usb - no difference.

  Someone on another site recommended I try this: I did an ipconfig release & renew, I also did winsock.

  I haven't downloaded service pack 1, but I had to update automatic, put in place all the time, that ive had the computer.

  Anyone have any idea what could be the problem?

  If 127.0.0.1 shows a timeout of the request then the problem is with the NIC itself.  There are a few steps I want to confirm, however, because I want to make sure that everything in this information also indicates this issue.
