My laptop keyboard has changed.

My 2 year old had changed my keyboard somehow and I don't know how to reset.
Several keys now must the fn key at the same time to bring up the correct letter. If the Fn key does not then a number appears instead of pressing the 'i' key that is to say without the Fn key returns '5'. The number keys always seem to function normally. Is there a way to reset the configuration of the default keyboard? The problem pc is a laptop.

Hello

Sounds like the fn key is stuck. You can try to rap top to loosen or lift the CAP and pull it upwards. If she fails to come out, you may need to be replaced. If it is under warranty, it is better to have the manufacturer to do so. • Satellite L650-170 - keyboard has stopped working

    Hello.

The problem is that my laptop keyboard has suddenly stopped working. It does not at all.
Although it responds until Windows loads up, which means that it is a software failure. External USB keyboard works too.
Someone has any idea how to solve this problem?

    Hello

This means that in Windows the keyboard doesn t work?

In this case, I would try a system restore to an earlier point. Maybe this can help get rid you of this problem.

  • On NEW laptop keyboard does not work after that the screen keyboard has been activated and then deactivated.

Look at my friend got a new laptop and went through the whole upward. the on-screen keyboard has been activated which invalidates the real keyboard when the on-screen keyboard has been disabled the real keyboard has NO return. If this is a bug... Fix it. This is not a driver issue, it is not a user error. Stop giving people answers, trying to pretend like it's not not the OS when most people already know that it is.

I'm sorry, but I didn't not new meant only one day.  And when I got my new laptop, one of the first things I did was to create a point of files, even a day later I had a restore to use - point and that was possible here as well.  I'm sorry it wasn't the case.

If the system restore option is not available, do a startup repair, boot from the disk Installation of Windows Vista genuine (or one that you can borrow from someone) or a recovery disc.  Here is the procedure: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial148.html.  You may need to change the BIOS to do first the CD drive in the boot sequence to boot from the CD.  To do this, hold the screen that tells you the key F to push to enter the menu start or start of installation.  Push it quickly. Make the changes, save your work and exit.  Put the CD in the drive and reboot.  When you are prompted, press any key to boot from the CD.

If you do not have a floppy disk, you can make a bootable recovery disk by using http://neosmart.net/blog/2008/windows-vista-recovery-disc-download/ with burning software like: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/active-isoburner.html and, of course, a blank CD.

If this does not work, you can try to go into the BIOS during the startup (the key appropriate to push appear on the screen to enter the boot menu or boot installation - try them both in turn if both appear. It is possible that the BIOS contains an option to disable the keyboard (which may have been activated by the keyboard on the screen but not changed when disable you the on-screen keyboard) and you may need to re-enable manually.  There is a slight possibility, but it is an option to try.

Another option to try is to set up a new user account that has never used the keyboard on the screen and see if the regular keyboard works when you connect to this account.  If so, you can simply treat the original as a corrupt account account and use the following procedures to complete the transfer.  To fix this use http://windows.microsoft.com/en-AU/windows-vista/Fix-a-corrupted-user-profile.

I hope that one of these aid procedures.  I'm sorry if they seem to 'generic', but we do not really know what is the problem - especially since the system is new.  We try and identify the cause and fix the problem at the same time using the procedures available to us.  I suspect there's a registry tweak will correct this problem, but I went through the whole registry, and although I found several referencers keyboard, I could find no which seemed to control or not activate the main laptop keyboard (though it has been in one of the entries that has been encoded in binary that I couldn't read).  It's possible someone who knows more about the registry will respond to this issue with a proposal to amend (or perhaps another solution).

I hope that one of the solutions I proposed works.  Please post back in all cases we will know whether or not to continue searching for an answer.

    Good luck!

  • Satellite 1905-S301: laptop model name Virus has changed?

I think that my Satellite 1905-S301 has been exposed to a virus. This is the worst I've ever seen: he has removed my firewall (Zonealarm), antivirus (AVG free) and Spybot. disabled Center Windows XP security, firewall and automatic update; I am unable to go to safemode (blue screen on startup); and I can not yet use the recovery CD because it has changed my machine to a 1900-801. This virus seems like it has intelligence.

Anyone know how I can force the recovery CD to restore my system?

What about first formatting the entire HARD disk, then use the Toshiba Recovery CD.
    This should help.
I don t think that the virus has changed something in the DMI and changed the model number of the laptop.

  • Keyboard layout has changed

My keyboard has suddenly changed such as SHIFT + 2 gives rather than ", the hash key gives------, shift + 3 gives # instead of the pound sign etc.» However, when I check in languages all parameters are still English UK. All responses I've looked at suggest that it is a problem if the keyboard layout gets switched to the English of the United States but mine is permanently set to English UK. How can I fix this.

    Thank you.

    Hello

Thanks for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

    I understand that the keyboard layout has changed and I'll be happy to answer your query. Let me ask you;

    1. Remember to no particular change in page layout settings or in the computer before the show?
    2. What all the troubleshooting methods have been tried?

This problem may be due to some incorrect settings or due to some corrupt language files. Let's try the following methods and check the status.

Method 1: Try to set a keyboard as a default configuration and check if it helps.

To set a keyboard as the default keyboard, so you don't have to change the input methods to enter text with it, follow these steps:

    a. open Language in the Control Panel by dragging from the edge right of the screen, tap Search (or if you use a mouse, pointing to the top right of the screen, move the pointer of the mouse down and then clicking Search), Add a language you enter in the search box and then click Add a language.

    b. press or click on Advanced settings.

    c. under Override for the default input method, select the keyboard layout, you want to be your default keyboard and then press or click Save.

Method 2: If the problem persists, remove and re-add the languages.

You can see: change your language or your keyboard

Hope this information is useful. Please feel free to answer in the case where you are facing in the future other problems with Windows.

  • The rest keyboard layout has changed

I use the dvorak layout.  It is not a problem at home.  But sometimes I use the computers of others or to use another computer to work.  It would not be a problem because, in theory, you can simply activate back.

The problem is that when I change it to the American keyboard layout, it does not change back.  I even removed it from the menu available dvorak is more selectable.  But there is still the dvorak layout.  Even the CTRL + key shift hotkey remains and it is the only real way to go once I put the dvorak layout.

How do I * definitely * make available to the United States?  Or I have to wait indefinitely for a fix and everyone is just going to get mad at me?  This issue had on Windows since at least Windows XP and it's probably in Win8.  I use Win7.

PS: I know how to change it already.  Control Panel > region and language > keyboards and languages > change keyboard... > General > [select United States-Dvorak] > delete but this DOES NOT WORK!

    Thank you.

Greetings!  I too use the Dvorak layout for over 15 years now and love it.  It is now a challenge for me to use a Qwerty keyboard these days.

Of course, the best response is that, since it is a user-specific preference, you must create your own connection to the other computers that you use occasionally.  Then simply logging in (or 'switch user') to your own username, the keyboard will change to your favorite Dvorak after the opening of your session is over and will be at the time where others connect with their own username.  It is what I use to keep mental health between me and the rest of my family at home.

If commandeer you an existing connection and replace the Dvorak keyboard, all you need to do is add Dvorak to the list, and then select it in the "Default Input Language" section as you did.  You must keep in mind, however, that the default keyboard language is applied whenever an application is launched and will be preserved (i.e. cannot be changed except bar Ctrl-Shift or language) as long as this application or window is running.  Other applications launched from this window can inherit this trait, too.  To return to no-Dvorak, you simply change the default keyboard input language setting (no need to remove the Dvorak topic) then exit and restart any applications that are running and have been initiated with the Dvorak type keyboard as default.  It's always the way it worked for me.  If you are temporarily requisition of someone else to logon, it may be better to add the Dvorak keyboard list but keep the Qwerty keyboard as the default keyboard and then change of Dvorak with Ctrl-Shift as needed.

    JW
