  I installed the webcam above about 1 week ago and have since had problems with Skype-to-Skype calls.  Initially, I thought it was a problem with Skype, my Skype call today was ok, but the webcam turned itself, no matter how many times I turned it on!  I thought I'd try installing again, using the CD ROM that is labeled "microsoft LifeCam 3.0."  However, when I clicked on the Setup, a message came saying that a later version has already been installed?  Where should I go from here?  As you can probably, I'm a "techno-phobic", so the responses of a single syllable would be much appreciated? !!

  I suggest you to uninstall all previous versions of drivers installed for the Lifecam HD 5001 by following the steps below. Unplug the appliance before you uninstall.

  During the uninstallation, the device in the Device Manager, make sure that you follow the steps below:

  a. Click Start.

  b. access control panel > system > hardware > Device Manager.

  c. open Device Manager and expand the imaging device.

  d. right-click on the device Lifecam HD-5001 and uninstall the device.

  During the uninstallation of the device in Device Manager, make sure that you place a tick against 'delete the driver for this device '.

  Later, access the link below and download the latest drivers and firmware updates. Install it and check if it works.

  Apple Installer starts to run for some reason. Use all the memory, Mac goes down, two workaround solutions 1, mechanically internet disconnection, 2) leave the installer in the activity monitor. Both work, I catch him before Installer devours all the memory.

• LifeCam HD-5001 will not install

  I have similar problems as the others.  I installed my webcam 5001 and Lifecam software.  Halfway through, I told plug in the camera.  After I did Windows recognizes the new hardware and continued to install the drivers.  LifeCam completed installation.  Then a window pops up saying that the pilots could not be installed because the required line was not found in the INF file.  When I opened Lifecam it says there is no camera connected.  When using Skype or Messenger seeing Live to power the cams would come on but no picture.  After several attempts to install different, still the same problem.  I uninstalled Lifecam.  When I went to Skype then I got the video.  The microphone does not work well.  Same thing on Live Messenger.  I went to the Device Manager and found the webcam listed in 2 places.  A location was in imaging devices.  When I open it says the cam was working properly... all the drivers installed.  The other location has something not normally.  It's other devices.  The cam is listed there and that's where it says that it does not.  I tried to remove the cam, turn it off but it is not serious, the Lifecam software never accesses the camera and other services prevents access.  Any ideas would be useful.  I downloaded the latest version of the Lifecam software and firmware updates with the same results.  In the error window that says: "the required line is not found in the INF" there is a "speaker" icon.  Not sure if this is indicating a specific or no problem.  I have a gateway computer, do not know what brand motherboard.  It has no built-in sound and video.  The processor is an AMD quad core 9100 rated 1.8 GHz.

  I gave up the webcam.  It'll probably work whenevwer I update to Windows 7.  Thanks for the help.  Sorry, we couldn't find a solution.

  Computer XP crashed yesterday. I am up and goes on (new) another one, also XP.

  I plugged the old drive hard as long as primary and secondary road, tried to reinstall XP on the old disk, failed in both cases.

  When connected as a secondary drive, I can access (? almost?) all the files and folders on the old hard drive, but a scan to find errors is interrupted every time.
  I guess the drive is lost and trying to recover the data and if possible programs of this player.

  Is it possible to transfer program files from the old drive to the new primary drive so that they work, I don't have to reinstall all the programs?
  There are also some programs out there that I downloaded and do not have an installation CD of.

  The short answer is 'no '.

  The long answer and the explanation as to why this is the case, follows:

  When it comes to third-party software, there are, unfortunately, no way for us to know what registry entries, you will need to program or what all the dependencies file for her.

  For this reason, the only recommended way to get software to work is through their installation.

  My advice on this subject would be to continue to contact the software manufacturer to obtain the keys of the essential software.

Start directly on the desktop is a minor advantage, but we can do anyway with a tap if we move the desktop icon to the left upper corner of the screen of Metro or if we run Explorer on startup in Task Scheduler. I really wish MS would work out that 98% of people who use their computer for work hate the Metro screen and its almost unnecessary applications. If they don't work it out at the time wherever they release 9, they will have lost a lot of us permanently.

  Updated 17 Dec: based on the advice of Andrew, I have installed 8.1 to 8.0 on one of our three machines of Windows 8. All office programs have been preserved. So the message to MS must be that if they can do this with 8.1, how come it is not possible with Refresh or restore of Windows 8? If Recimg is supposed to cool off without destroying programs.
