Hello, everyone! I hope you are all well.

I have a desktop PC Compaq Presario CQ5300Y, to which I would like to upgrade the memory.

The product specifications indicate clearly that the motherboard, a M2N68-(Narra5), 2 x DDR2 memory media. (In addition, the amount of installed memory is 2 GB.)

The product specifications, in the information section of upgrade memory also mention the following:

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Dual channel memory architecture
    Supports two DDR2 DIMM (240-pin)

    Supported DIMM types:

    PC2-5300 (667 MHz)
    PC2-6400 (800 MHz)

    Memory non - ECC, unbuffered
Supports DIMM DDR2 2 GB modules
Supports up to 4 GB * on 32-bit PCs
    * 32 - bit operating systems cannot resolve a full 4.0 GB memory.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm clear (with what the article said) I have only available two DIMM DDR2 2 brackets.

"What confuses me is the statement" ""supports 2 GB DDR2 DIMM '. This is the reason for my question.

"Supports 2 GB DDR2 DIMM" means that I have to use 2 GB DDR DIMM only, which means I can only go to 4 GB? Or could I use 4GB DDR2 DIMM, which breaks the barrier of 4 GB?

In a few words, I would like to - at least - 8GB (assuming that I find two modules DIMM DDR2 4 GB). Would it be possible to have the above configuration?

It is important to mention that the PC is running a 64-bit operating system.

I would appreciate the attention he can draw on this issue.

    Best regards.

    Hello:

Each slot of memory on the motherboard of your PC cannot accept that a maximum of one module of memory of 2 GB.

    1 x 2 GB will work.

    2 x 2 GB will work.

    1 x 4 GB will not work.

    2 x 4 GB will not work.

  • Compaq presario 1800us (470013-558) memory upgrade

It is an old laptop that I am trying to get a little more life on as a replacement/backup machine.  At currently stock 192 MB of RAM (64 MB on MB, 128MB on SODimm).  Performance is naturally miserable because of the many to get excited when the virtual memory should be used.

Specs say it can take up to a total of 320 MB and the HP parts store indicates that a 256 MB module was formerly available.  The part number of this 256 MB module is 175325-001, but it is essentially impossible to get now.

Online sellers seem to indicate that the equivalent part 256 MB is 161554-B21, which is available.  I ordered and received this part from a local seller online.  However, when I installed it, the laptop still shows that a total of 192 MB of RAM.  Software memtest.exe see the module 256MB 128 MB.

    Either:

    (A) the 256 MB module, I received is defective

    (B) the 161554-B21 part belongs the wrong for this machine

    (C) the BIOS is not configured to see the full 256 MB (BIOS shows any useful info and there is almost nothing to twist here - is - it possible to see more info?)

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Jerry

At this point, there are only a few explanations that can explain it.

    1. the motherboard is limited. This probably isn't the case since it supports up to 320 MB of RAM.

    2. the RAM is classified. A possibility, but the RAM chips appear to be intended for a stick of 256 MB of RAM.

    3. some of the RAM chips are failed, but not be detected by a tester memory. It's the most likely scenario.

I would contact the supply store that they have been purchased from replacement or the manufacturer of the RAM for troubleshooting.

I would also recommend, get the HP RAM if possible. If you are interested in the HP RAM, then you can try this RAM. If it does not load, just search the 167136-001 part number. It is listed as available here, but I would be surprised if they still had the PC100 memory.

    For me it s case;

  • Problem upgrade memory on Satellite M40-142

    Hi all

I am trying to upgrade my M40 - 142 (win XP) with 2x1GB memory modules. the initial memory is a single unit of 512 MB. When I remove and replace with 2 new modules of the system starts.
If I leave the original memory in the slot and add only a single module 1 GB system startup and total ram 1.5 GB.
If I use a single module of the new memories, the system is not to start again.

I tried to update the bios to the latest version but when I run the .exe is an error and I am not able to run it.

looking at the specifications of the motherboard should support the upgrade of memory 2x1GB.

    Thanks for your help

    Marco

I guess you used the memory modules live all simply not compatible.

The laptop s RAM can be certainly upgraded up to 2 GB of RAM (2 x 1 GB), but you must use simply compatible and God quality modules.

Cheap may be not compatible or defective.

  • Update memory

    Hello

    DIMM or SODIMM?

    Voltage?

    Double or Single Channel module?

I would also like to know what replacement memory (brand names that are compatible HP) choice I have? Can anyone help?

    Hi Fotzou,

I don't have a lot of the information you are looking for, what I found in the Maintenance and Service Guide is a reference to the reference numbers that is known to work in your notebook memory HP. You can find this information on page 47. I have also included the document 'upgrade memory (RAM)'. This will guide you through the steps of verification of the amount of memory can be installed, the maximum memory supported and how to install it.

An option that you always check the HP Shopping web page, to see if there is memory available for your laptop modules there.

    Thank you.

  • Satellite M40X-230 memory upgrade

    Upgrade memory

I have a satellite M40X-230, most of the documents indicate that it is expandable up to 2 GB of RAM.
On the underside there a memory expansion slot which will have a 1 GB SODIMM, giving me a total of 1.5 G bytes of RAM.

Is it possible to add the other 500 MB. (I'm experimenting with Virtual Machines and data bases)

    In case anyone is interested!

There is a module in memory of 500MByte located on top of the motherboard. Unfortunately this is mounted internally in the case.
It is located below and slightly to the right of the center of the keyboard.
However, the casting of the cover of the laptop cover electronics and so it is not accessible by simply removing the keyboard. the top cover should be thrown which also consists of removing the screen.

Otherwise, the module is mounted in exactly the same type of socket than under the machine.

    Help, please! Thank you.

Retina models do not allow upgrading RAM.  Only non-retine models have available slots by the user on the logic board.  In fact Mbps retina models have a very low rating not repairable (ifixit.com gives a 1 out of 10 for * user *-fixable).

The thin design of systems of retina require RAM soldered on the Board and different format of version 2.5 SSD in readers.

In addition... to open the case on a non-retine model is an option authorized user without voiding the warranty.  Open the case of a model of retina gives Apple the opportunity to decline any warranty service if something breaks (map logic, display, fans,...).

  • VMware Fusion 7 and VMware Tools - leak memory in Debian comments

At some point during my updates from Mac OS X to Yosemite, VMware Fusion to 7.x and my Debian a guest to 8.0 "Jessie" on my 2012 Mackbook Pro, leaking memory of the Linux kernel is developed.  If I follow these steps, then I'd lose soon about 3 GB memory of the core area.

    1. Install Debian Jessie in a new machine virtual de VMware Fusion
    2. Install open-vm-tools or VMware Tools bundled.
    3. Perform an intensive IO as operation simply cat/dev/zero |-c 1000000000 head >/tmp/test.txt.
    4. Smem - wtk and see ~ 3 GB memory under the dynamics of the kernel memory, benefit.

I opened the 15709682007 assistance request and the representative said that they will fix the problem in a future release. In the meantime, I have what seems to be a workaround for someone else that is affected.  Basically, pulling packages from backports jessie seems to have solved the problem.  This is based on the comments added to open-vm-tools.

    1. Add the Debian repository -backports jessie in /etc/apt/sources.list
    2. sudo apt - get update; sudo apt - get install t Jessie-backports open-vm-tools-dkms open-vm-Tools-Office
    3. sudo apt - get - t jessie-backports dist-upgrade (install kernel 4.1)
    4. Restart comments

    A few quick thoughts:

    1. If you have several virtual machines (or other programs) running on your computer host and VMware Fusion detects that there is memory pressure on your host computer, it uses the "balloon" (vmw_balloon for the latest distributions of Linux) Guest pilot to fly some memory of the guest OS.  This memory "stolen" would appear as memory Dynamics non-cache kernel inside the guest.  Running "sudo rmmod vmw_balloon" should release all memory climbed to the guest OS.  Note that using the balloon driver generally improves the performance of the guest and host, despite the appearance of fear "used memory" inside the guest-"used memory" is just a thing of accounting that we had to use in order to change the priority of the memory between the host and the guest.  It is not "used" in the conventional sense of the term.

    2. I believe that recent versions of virtual hardware non-cache dynamic kernel allocate the necessary memory for SVGA and 3D features (display RAM, texture RAM, etc.).  Disable graphic 3D acceleration or by reducing the amount of graphics shared memory if you are using a new version of virtual hardware (both in the VM > settings... > display) might help.  Decommissioning of a virtual equipment as early (in the VM > settings... > compatibility) can also help.

    See you soon,.
