My supported if ESXi VMware inside my VMs tools are outdated?

Hello

One of my customers like to install a new cluster on ESXi 5.1.0u1 and migrate virtual machines in a cluster on the cluster 5.10u1 5.0. But it does not update the VMware tools (in the first place).

He asked me if the ESXi 5.1.0u1 servers are always supported by VMware if VMware tools running are obsolete.

For me, Yes, but I can't find an article/paper which can confirm.

Can someone tell where I can find an official statement about this?

Thanks in advance.

  • Updated VMware vCenter Operations Manager tools

Hello everyone, I just use Citrix Xenserver to VMware vCenter with Operations Manager 5.8.4.  I've looked everywhere and cannot find an answer to this.  Is it possible to update VMware tools in the vCOPS TIME?  I just started my new environment with v8 of Veeam backup and he lets know me that VMware tools are outdated.  The only reason why I ask because, coming from Citrix Xenserver v6.2, whenever a device from the virtual computer is provided by Citrix, you're stuck with the tools provided in this unit until they update the device.

If it's good to update the VMware tools, it's as simple as opening the console to each virtual machine in the vApp and he tell the ' Install/Upgrade Vmware Tools?  Or is there a more complicated step?

    Thank you

    Brett

As far as I KNOW, the VMware tools upgrade is not recommended on vCops.

This breaks the device and you can ignore the message of the VMware tools obsolete.

  • SQL Server 2008 R2 taken Failover Cluster support in ESXi 6?

    Hi guys

I think that it is based on the many articles of MS and VMWare I was wading in but did anyone have knowledge if a SQL Server 2008 R2 failover cluster is supported on ESXi 6?

I think we have to run on a Windows Server 2012 R2 operating system unless we are forced to stick with Server 2008 R2 for reasons of inheritance

    Thanks for the tips

  • Adobe officially support under Photoshop VMware?

I need to convert Photoshop discrete servers for an image based on a VMware/resizing Blade Server environment.

Adobe officially support under Photoshop VMware?

In addition, what versions of ESX are currently tested and supported?

I understand you may need some configs special to get licenses to work... What is it?

Also, if some versions of Photoshop are supported and others are not supported under VMware, I need to know that as well.

How to get to a product manager at Adobe?... For gods sake, they have a blockade of customer service to get a person who knows such things.

  • Physical serial ports are supported in ESXi?

Physical serial ports are supported in ESXi?  I install Windows 2008 SBS on a HP Proliant ML350 G6 ESXi (version of stick USB HP) running. The server comes with a serial port on board.  I was hoping that connect an external modem and expose it to the virtual server, Windows SBS 2008 to serve as a network fax.  Is this possible? Alternatives if not supported?

    It would be a no.

There are TCP/IP USB devices, do not know if there are similar devices for the series, but NO physical devices, sound cards, usb, parallel, series can be transmitted to a virtual machine.  That's because ESX uses vmotion, and it was designed to let the virtual machine move between machines, so allowing physical connections so would interfere with this operation.

  • VMware HA host-level tools?

I have a small question around to have installed VM and VM HA features of basic tools.  I've seen cases where, in the course of a host crash in a cluster with HA, some or all virtual machines do come up not on other hosts.  In the inventory, they appear only as grayed until the host is brought back to the top.  It was on a 4.0 host (not sure of the patch level).

We know all that VM tools are a good idea, but we have still a few Linux VM who did not install them for other reasons.  This is something that we are working, but for reasons of this issue, they have them.  None of our virtual machines use "virtual machine failure control" to monitor burst OS itself - just HA at the cluster level.  The cluster had much power to contain virtual machines on other host.  No idea why some virtual machines that would not be introduced on other host automatically after the crash?  With the VMware tools installed in guests is not required for the base-level host HA to the best of my knowledge (i.e. If a host goes down, vCenter should move all the VMs that were in the inventory of this host).

I think at this point it may have been some sort of bug that is probably fixed in versions/patches later.

    Any other ideas?

    Thank you

You have defined the priority of restarting the virtual machine. All VM in priority will restart first and then medium and low. You also have the option to disable HA for some VM. I don't know if these settings are there for virtual machines that have not moved. Also VMS residing on the store local data or non-shared storage will not move.

    > We know that VM tools are a good idea, but we have still a few Linux VM who did not install them for other reasons.

For HA works, you don't need the vmware tools. This requires only when your gos vm fails and you want to restart your vm.

    > No idea why some virtual machines that would not be introduced on other host automatically after the crash?

check the priority of restarting the virtual machine? or if HA is disabled for thos VM? and these virtual machines must reside on shared storage.

    > At this point I think there may have been some kind of bug that is probably fixed in versions/patches later.

4.0 is very old version that is not yet supported now. However you use the basic features of HA so I do not think that you hit any bugs. I find something wrong with the settings of your HA. Please check.

    Thank you

  • VMware Workstation and Hyper-V are not compatible. Remove the Hyper-V system role before running VMware Workstation

Ouch. I just started to do some Win Phone 8 and development Win, and all simulators are needed for development.

This means that a dev to Win8 may only work on their host... I'm sure it would work in a virtual machine.

Can I make for happy? (Hyper V might have to win here... sigh).

VMware Workstation and Hyper-V are not compatible. Remove the Hyper-V system role before running VMware Workstation

Once you install the Hyper-V role on your host, your host is no longer running Windows 8 as the native operating system.  It runs Hyper-V as the native operating system, and Windows 8 runs as OS management within a privileged under Hyper-V VM.  With the Hyper-V role installed, * everything * runs in a virtual machine under Hyper-V.

So to run a virtual machine under my computer in Windows 8 under Hyper-V, you must be able to run a nested VM.  It's possible with Hyper-V, the hypervisor host, but with the updates in custody, I mentioned above.

  • VMware tools are not available

    Good day to all.

I'm trying to get a picture of old Win98 installed in VMplayer 3.14.  The host is Win 7 64 bit.

The image is an Acronis image made when the Win98 box was commissioned in 2006.  The Virtual Machine and went through a lot of screens 'new search', on which he seems to work fine.  However, the video resolution is terrible (640 x 480, 16-color.)

The problem is that I don't seem to be able to install VMware Tools.  More specifically, go to the Virtual Machine-> and trying to find the installer shows only that "VMware Tools" not available

I'm quite new to VMware and don't know what I should try next.

For any help or suggestions appreciated!

Here's a direct download link.  "Détarer" it and then run the .exe excerpt and this will install the winPre2K.iso in VMware Player.

You could create a virtual machine with a virtual disk free based and then edit the vmx file:

    numvcpus = '2 '.

    pciBridge6.functions = '8 '.

After changing the vmx file or reboot the virtual machine to inventory or leave VMware Player and restart it.

  • Cisco ACS 5.4 is supported on ESXi 5.5?

    Hello

We modernize Cisco ACS to version 5.4, but the only available platform VMWare's ESXi version 5.5. The docs to install ACS indicates that version 5.0 and 5.1 are the only supported versions. Does anyone know if version 5.5 is supported too?

    Thank you :-)

It is supported in 5.6 ACS:

5.6 ACS supports the following versions of VMware:

    • VMware ESXi 5.0
    • VMware ESXi 5.0 Update 2
    • VMware ESXi 5.1
    • VMware ESXi 5.5
    • VMware ESXi 5.5 Update 1

Just 4 new generation 8 HP DL360ps and VMware support matrix is not those listed, but it has HP DL380 Gen 8 s.

is it just a timing thing and they have not been approved yet, because they are so new?

ESXi installs ok, except for a mistake of memory in the condition of the equipment...

    Thank you

    Hello world

Looking at the notes of relase for the 5.1 ESXi update, looks like I can install MAC OSX 10.8 on ESXi now. I followed the instructions below vmware site

    http://PartnerWeb.VMware.com/GOSIG/MacOSX_10_8.html

Now installing crosses very well until he needs to reboot once done. The first error I get in the vmware.log file is a. vcpu0 - hostsmcread could not open the playerlooking for answers in the world, I decided to change the input .vmx as follows: smc.present = false

Starting the virtual machine back up I now get this error: GuestRpcSendTimedOut: message to the box to tools-DND expired

No idea what I should try. It also looks like his tent install VMware Tools.

Also, I wanted to know about licenses. Im not clear if I'm reached unrestricted license trying to run MAX OSX on ESXI. There was some talk everything through forums, I wanted just to have a clear answer

Any help on these questions would be appreciated

    Hi DForneiro,

If you get an error in HostSmcRead, I would hazard a guess that you run ESX host non-Apple machine.  Apple Mac OS X to support software license conditions require that the OS runs at the top of the Apple hardware, even when virtualized.  We rely on specific Apple hardware on the host computer in order to activate virtual machines in Mac OS virtualization, so if it is not a host of Apple, Mac OS X does not start.  A failure in HostSmcRead means that we were unable to communicate with the hardware required host.

If you are using host of Apple hardware, I'd be interested to know the details, because the failure you see would be something that we want to determine and fix... Otherwise, what you are not allowed by the Apple ALS and we will not be able to help you here.

    See you soon,.
