I have lost my Windows XP disc in a move and can't reinstall the file to a disk, how to fix this?

When you use certain features sounds and Audio devices, you see a message like this:

Windows cannot display the control of volume on the taskbar because the Volume control program has not been installed. To install it use Add/Remove programs in Control Panel.

It seems that the c:\windows\system32\sndvol32.exe file is missing.

This may occur if your antivirus/antimalware application thinks the file is suspicious and quarantines (effectively delete) the file.  You can replace the missing file with a backup copy of the file that is in another folder on your system.

Describe your current antivirus and software anti malware situation: McAfee, Symantec, Norton, Spybot, AVG, Avira!, MSE, Panda, Trend Micro, CA, Defender, ZoneAlarm, PC Tools, Comodo, etc..

Assuming that Windows is installed on your C drive...

We know that XP keeps copies of critical system files in the following folder:

    c:\Windows\System32\dllcache

Using the Explorer, search for or navigate to the following folder:

    c:\Windows\System32\dllcache

Locate the sndvol32.exe file, right-click, choose copy (it copies the file to the Windows Clipboard).

If your Solution Explorer settings are not set to display file extensions, you will see only a file called 'sndvol32' which has an icon that looks like to the volume control slider (this is the file you need).

If the file is missing in the dllcache folder, look for a copy of the file in this folder:

    c:\windows\ServicePackFiles\i386

Browsing from a level in the following folder:

    c:\Windows\System32

Right-click on an empty area in the window of c:\windows\system32 and choose Paste to paste in the missing file where it belongs.

Answered in the affirmative if invited to replace the existing file.

Now try your features sounds and Audio devices.

Note that run sfc/scannow will not replace the missing file because it is not this that sfc/scannow does.

  • WES7: 'Windows cannot access the installation sources. "Check that the installation sources are accessible and restart the installation.

I try to install Windows Embedded Standard 7 on an vacuum Compact Flash 4 GB but when installing, I get an error message "Windows cannot access the installation sources. "Check that the installation sources are accessible, and run the Setup again."

I created an answer file with the Configuration of Image Editor and I created an Image of the IBW of my answer file. All the files and the Image of the IBW (738 MB) files are copied to a USB bootable 4 GB. I inserted the Flash DRIVE to a computer with a Compact Flash 4 GB (which contains only a primary NTFS partition set as Active) and it starts on a USB key. IBW Wizard starts and I followed the instructions until the disk selection step. I chose the disk and partition of Compact Flash and I press the next button. First 2 installation steps manage (copy of Windows files and extend Windows files) but 3rd step (installing features and updates) failed with the error message "Windows cannot access the installation sources. Check that the installation sources are accessible, and run the Setup again.'.»

I tried to do the same thing with a Compact Flash 4 GB, which contains 2 partitions: a primary NTFS defined as active and a system partition, but I got the same result. Then I tried to install it on a Compact Flash 8 GB which contains 1 single defined primary partition as active and I managed.

Problem is that I must install on a Compact Flash 4 GB.

    Can someone help me please?

    Assuming you are using Vista...
Do a system restore. Choose a date on which all the shortcuts are present and work as your restore point.

Start button > Search box, type system restore > press the Enter key > uac prompt > click on choose a different restore point > next > select dates as your restore point, until the click > next > finish

    Hi TomFlow,

    1. which edition of Windows XP you are using?

2 did you a recent software or hardware changes to the system?

    Method 1:

You can try to start the Fixit from link and check if it helps:

    Method 2:

You cannot start the Windows Firewall service in Windows XP SP2

Important: The above article tells you how to edit the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs.

For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, follow the steps from the link below:

  • Windows cannot display the xp sp3 firewall settings

I tried and did not work start > run regsvr32 hnetcfg.dll [Enter] cannot find module I also tried sharedaccess.reg which doesn't work anymore

    If that's what you get:

"Due to a problem not identified, windows cannot display windows firewall settings"

    Try this:

To resolve this problem, two DLLs must be re-registered:

First: click Start-> run, and then type

    regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\atl.dll
    and click OK

    Second:
    regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\hnetcfg.dll
    and click OK

This should enable the display and the configuration of the XPfirewall settings.

Hello my pblem is that my Windows media player does not play wen I insert my dvd disc it say that a compatiable device is not installed please help me thanks in advance

    Hello

    Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double-click on the device - driver tab - click
Update the drivers (this will probably do nothing) - then RIGHT click the drive - UNINSTALL - REBOOT
This will refresh the default driver stack. Even if the reader does not appear to continue below.

Then, work your way through these - don't forget the drive might be bad, could be a loose cable or
slight corrosion on the contacts (usually for a laptop) and other issues.

Another possibility is that the cables are loose. Remove ALL power, then make sure that the cables in both
ends. Remove and replace, do not just tight. For laptops, you can often clean power and
contacts data with a pencil eraser.

    Hope these helps.

Please do NOT post in all capitals.

What do you use for security?

If you are using an Internet Security Suite, it will have its own firewall and disables the default Windows Firewall.

And you should have only one firewall to avoid problems related to the operating system.
