My Windows Vista will be able to do a permanent upgrade to Windows 7 If this isn't an activated version?

My Windows Vista allow not even put it in my contract. I raised this issue with Microsoft here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_vista-windows_update/windows-authorization-failed/1eb76641-c316-4cee-b9f2-07822b2ca07d?page=1&tm=1331999060993#footer but have not yet followed the suggestions of the last answer. My windows is unauthorized. But with many errors that occur on the computer, some hardware (RAM) and other software, I thought that it would be better to simply upgrade to Windows 7. But before I'm ready to do a permanent upgrade, I need to know if a version of Windows Vista will be able to upgrade to Windows 7. A licensed version of Windows Vista was purchased by us, and a licensed version of Windows 7 will be bought when you're ready to upgrade. Is this possible? Or Windows Vista must first be authenticated?

EDIT: upgrade is also done if all goes well to avoid having to go through the whole process to fix my problem with windows authentication as described in the last post on the link above.

Hello

  • Windows 7 says this isn't authentic after changing the HARD drive and can not activate

After a Windows Update I received a notice that my version of windows was not authentic, which is false because I had windows on my laptop because I got it 4 years ago. Recently, I had to have the changed HARD drive as it corrupts. Installed new HARD drive and partition it a space in which the old files to hard drives. Seemed to turn very well when HARD drives were exchanged and windows installed on the new drive until windows update. My Microsoft certificate key is passed out to illegible but I don't have the product key for the OEM version. Any help would be great, thanks.

If Windows was preinstalled on your computer, you can enable using the code from the sticker on the computer.  If you can not read the sticker more, you will need to contact the computer company he built.

If you purchased Windows from the store, you can enable using the code of the case/box/CD.  If you can't read it, you must contact the retailer who sells to you.

  • Why can't the upgrade procedure be re-scheduled to warn users BEFORE they upgrade they will lose the additional features they have relied on for years? This isn't a trivial matter - read the other "complaints"!

For the second time in my experience, an update of Firefox led to a lost feature where the modules are considered incompatible. It is UNACCEPTABLE that the user is not warned prior to this loss. It is immaterial that the Add-ons are third parties: If Firefox can 'discover' the problem AFTER the upgrade, it can warn us BEFORE the upgrade. I love Firefox, but you've already lost one of my sons as a user because of what it sees as a casual disregard for the personal choices of the users. Give us the ability to customize Firefox. Fantastic! Can paralyse us when we innocently do a upgrade. How much more of your user base that you want to lose?

As a user of long date of Firefox (and Netscape), I tend to agree with you that some type of compatibility check must be done before the real Firefox takes place version upgrade. I never install a new version of Firefox on my previous version. I admit that I'm a more experienced user and generally start to use new versions of Firefox during the beta test period and install the beta version, with a separate profile required, to test the new product and test the compatibility of the add-on. I know that's not possible or convenient for all users.

The following extension can save you some frustration.

    • It adds an option "Empty list" on the screen Add on
    • It will show compatible Mozilla products and versions for each Extension.
      • I do not believe that the Extensions installed from other sites that the site Mozilla Add - ons are included; you will need to check the site from which you downloaded the Extension or with the developer of the Extension for the updating of the plans for the new version of Firefox.
    • I installed it and I use it as a first step before contacting the developers Extension and or visit their home/forums pages looking for beta versions of their Extensions for new versions of Firefox.
    • This will help you if you do not allow automatic updates of Firefox; most versions of news (e.g., Firefox 3.x of Firefox 4). See:

Perform a custom installation of Windwos 7 on Windows Vista:

Boot from the Windows 7 DVD
    Click Install now
    Accept the license agreement
When the option is displayed to select a type of installation, click (Custom advanced)

Select the disk partition where you want to install Windows 7 click Next.

You will receive the following warning:

The partition you have selected may contain files from a previous Installation of Windows. If so, these files and folders will be moved to a folder named Windows.old. You will be able to access the information in Windows.old, but you will be able to use your previous version of Windows.

(At all costs, do NOT click on anything in Format, deletion or Partition name.) So even do a custom installation, your personal files are still kept. Click OK

The installation program will now begin installation. During installation, your computer will be restarted several times.

Once the installation is complete, you can complete the Out of Box experience as the choice of your laptop, create a username, password, your time zone. You can then proceed to download the latest updates for Windows and reinstall your applications and drivers.

You can then retrieve your personal files from the Windows.old folder and reinstall all of your applications and drivers.

Personal data backup (which none should be considered 100% reliable at this point) then format the HARD disk and do a clean install of Windows.  Please note that a repair installation (upgrade AKA on-site) won't fix this!

HOW to do a clean install of Vista: section "If you want to reinstall Windows Vista by running a new installation...". "of http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/Installing-and-reinstalling-Windows-Vista

NB: Do NOT use the 'version of Vista' you downloaded! If your HP computer came not with a set of disks when you bought it, there is a hidden partition restore (not to be confused with the restoration of the system) you would use to do the clean install. Contact HP support for assistance.

Once installed the clean, you will have the equivalent of a "new computer" in order to take care of everything on the next page before connecting the machine to the internet or one local network (i.e. other computers) otherwise and before using a flash drive or the SD card that is not brand new, or has not been freshly formatted:

If the upgrade to windows 7, it will be able to read data discs my xp? l have data recorded on cd and on Word, and then transferred to cd/disc, to save. My XP PC can read the disc on reinstalling Microsoft Works, which has the word inside program. Windows 7 will be able to read these discs of data?

    Hi steve,.

Just to make sure I understand, you have the Word documents on them with backup discs and wondering if they will be recognised by Windows 7.
If this is the case, then you should not have to worry. Windows 7 will read the disc properly. However, as with XP, you will need to install the correct program that you would use to open files.
In other words, if they are Word documents, then you will need to have MS Word installed or installed works for viewing.
Hope this helps and let me know if you need more information.
  • I will be able to use the pqservice partition after I have re-installed windows?

    Hello
    PC - Acer aod270.
It had windows 7 installed starter.
I reinstalled windows 7 Professional. I installed it on drive C. I left the pqservice partition and partition system (100 MB) only, has not formatted or anything.

My pqservice partition will be usable, or should I reinstall windows professional still and everything to not have space unusable format?...

    Hi batusia

If you leave the PQservice partition intact, then you will be able to use it if you want to restore Windows 7 Starter to your PC.

If you erase the partition, then no, he will not be able to be used.

If you need additional disk space, make sure you do recovery disks/USB key beforehand, so if you want, you can reinstall Windows 7 Starter.

I didn't not say (or necessarily) anything, I simply asked if this thread is on the same computer as you other thread.

Assuming it is, you will use the discs that came with the computer or the hidden restore partition (should not be confused with the system restore) to the clean install of Windows.

If the new facility leaves you with WinXP Gold (without Service Pack), you will need to install Service Pack 2 manually before you will be able to install updates (including SP3) via Windows Update. See my response to your other thread.
