  • Windows XP Media Center 2005 cannot connect to the Internet

    Dear all,

I'm having a problem with Windows XP Media Center 2005. The problem is that when I connect the cable from the modem to the laptop, I only send packets without receiving. The IP address I get is also 169.254.207.207, which is not a valid IP address to connect to the internet, and so I guess that something is blocking the laptop to get the IP address. Another thing I noticed is that when I turned off the modem and restart it, I have connectivity maybe 5 seconds and then return to no connectivity.

You guys can tell me what is the problem, and if I have to download something but in addition to the internet so that I can get my laptop to work. That said, I can connect to wireless with no problems.

Thanks for your help and your time

    Hello

Sorry for the question but what modem did you mean?
A simple analog modem or DSL (broadband) modem that supports support a LAN connection.
If you mean the second then I would check the TCP/IP settings in the properties of LAN card. The settings should be set to automatic

You should also check that you firewall settings.

  • The decoder error: the video decoder has either malfuntioned or is not installed...

I had to reinstall my Win XP Media Center 2005 due to a trojan virus. I formatted and reinstalled. Everything works fine, but I can play is no longer ANY DVD. I get the message "titled" above! I installed and ran the Video Decoder Checkup Utility and it says I have NO MPEG-2 decoder installed! What the heck is with that? I have a bought and paid for a BONE with Media Center 2005, the only way I've seen to get the codecs I need, I have to pay for them?  It's crazy! I thought that I had already paid for them through the puchace of my PC! (Dell)  I have / do not watch TV using Media Center. I only watched DVD (when it worked) really just, I wish the new DVD game! ANY help on this would be appreciated.

Very probably came with your Dell system Power DVD, the decoder is in this program.

Reinstall Power DVD and Media Center works again.

If you purchased a TV Tuner with your system, for example (Angel USB) reinstall the driver on the CD Drivers and Utilities provided with your system.

If you do not have the drivers CD, you can get it from Dell downloads driver.

You can also reinstall burning software provided with your system.

If you miss any CD program or does not have the with your system will...

  • Media Center 2005 crashed I loaded Windows XP sp2. Installing XP cannot load explorer.exe and another dll file... Need help or information on how to request recovery of microsoft disk MC2005... Gateway has not.

Help please... I have a gateway gt4024 designed with Media Center 2005. Recently, the system was not "acting accordingly so I tried to reload the OS." I realized that I didn't have the recovery disc, then I decided to load XP Professional I had on it. The law on the computer is as it has been installed correctly and then I get a message saying explorer.exe could not be loaded properly or the drive perhaps is corupted and the same message to another .dll file. Once completed, I can reboot and use the computer, but then the windows installer will not work and the drivers are still present on the hard drive. Now, I loaded the new operating system before and I know that pilots are not supposed to be always present on the system. I then put a new hardrive has had the same problem. So, I then took the hardrive and placed in another computer that was be a dell and load xp fine without error. Can someone point me in the right direction. I contacted gateway to another Media Center recoverydisk, but they said because the computer was no longer under warranty, that they did not have the specified disc and to contact Microsoft. • When you try to set up my Tv Tuner in Windows Media Center, I get this error message: "TV Setup has encountered a serious problem. Click Finish to exit, and then try again. If this problem persists, restart Windows Media Center or the computer. »

I have a HP m8034n pc with a tuner Hauppauge WinTV HVR-1600 NTSC/ATSC Combo.  The pc came with Vista and Windows media center worked great just with the tv tuner.  I upgraded to Windows 7, December 2 and fail to put in place my tv with WMC tuner.  The recorded shows that I had before the upgrade to Windows 7 appear and play without problem in WMC. I used the hardware diagnostic tool that is installed on my pc to control the Tuner, and during the test, I can see fine TV stations.  This unit is compatible according to microsoft Windows 7. I have the latest driver and tried to uninstall and reinstall. I ran Windows Update and everything is up-to-date. After that WMC checks tuners, it says:

    screen A___
    WMC has discovered the following:
    Analog cable (1 Tuner)

Other tuners or TV signals were detected but will not be configured.

Is this Setup correct and complete?
o Yes, configure TV with these results
    o no, show more options

If a TV signal should be present, check your signal for following tuners connections and try again:
    Hauppauge WinTV 418 BDA Tuner

There is another question, because he does not list my correct tv tuner. I click, so I'm now on A screen again.

When I click Yes, set up TV with these results,-(for the analog option Cable(1 tuner), I select my cable service is, and then click Next.) It then displays a confirmation of analog cable and my cable provider, I click Next again and the error message "installation TV met with a serious problem. Click Finish to exit, and then try again. If this problem persists, restart Windows Media Center or the computer. "appears.

I even tried to set up the signal manually and on the confirmation screen, I click Next, and get the exact same error.

I would really appreciate any help and if more details are required, please let me know.  Thank you!

    -Doug

I don't know what happened, I left my PC off overnight and planned reformatting today. But I decided to give him another chance. Instead of saying the tuner was not available. He showed me a static snow image strong, as he was trying to use my Analogue tuner. In fact, it is supposed to use the composite input for my cable box. I re set my TV signals, and now everything works well again. Its strange because I reboot half a dozen times last night and it's never worked. Leaving the PC turned off for the night must have done the trick, I guess.

    Hi James,

Welcome to Microsoft Community where you can find all the answers related to Windows.

According to the description, it looks that you are not able to install Windows XP Media Center.

I have a couple of steps that should help you to solve this problem.

Follow these 4 steps to install the KB925766 correctly:

    a. if the 886904 update is installed, you must uninstall the 886904 update before you install the Update Rollup 2 for Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005. Otherwise, the installation of .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 will fail.

To determine whether the 886904 update is installed, follow these steps:

    i. click on start, run, type appwiz.cpl, and then click OK.

II. Click to select the show updates check box.
III. in the list currently installed programs, locate the following item:

Fix for Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 (KB886904)

If you see this option, you must remove the hotfix. To remove the patch, click on the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 (KB886904) Hotfix and then click on remove. Then, visit the Windows Update Web sit to download and install the Update Rollup 2 for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005.

    b. to install this update, you must have Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 and .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 installed. Windows Update detects whether these packages are installed. Windows Update automatically installs these packages for you.

    (i) follow the link below to download the .net framework 1.1 manually:
    http://www.Microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=262D25E3-F589-4842-8157-034D1E7CF3A3&displaylang=en
