. Mysteriously damaged NEF files

I have a little. Files NAVE of the turtle, I photographed. When I opened the file in Czech Republic, I noticed that two of the eight photos had strips of bright colors that travelled horizontally.  See attachment. Files open or untreated, except that a backup program has copied these files between several files to a second location.  I guess that it is always possible that somehow a copy of corrupted files them.  However, if someone has experienced this problem and knows how to avoid it, I would like to know.  Thank you.

  • Photoshop Camera RAW not supporting my NEF files.

I have a little. NEF RAW images I shot on a Nikon D800 that has been downloaded from a CF of a Canon Mark III friends card. I transferred on my Macbook Pro using a Nikon transfer software and am able to view the images using the Image of Nikon Viewer, but in the finder of my Mac NAVE icon appears as a blank page, not the normal icon of the NAVE and Camera Raw in Photoshop will not open one of these images. Adobe CS5 and I have updated the plugin to the latest version (6.7.1.340) and have tried it on Adobe CC with the latest plugin for this version as well, and I get the same error message on both:

"Could not complete your request because the file appears to be a model of camera that is not taken in charge by the installed version of Camera Raw. .

I also tried to use the Adobe DNG Converter, but this program seems to not be able to manage these images either, as when I try to convert files, a window opens which says:

" ' The source folder does not contain any supported camera raw files '.

I am sure that the images are in tact, I can see the images in the viewer of Nikon, but even the Nikon software is unable to convert. I don't know if this may have been because the card had already been used on a Canon, and having spent all of a sudden a Nikon can affect the structure of the. NEF file, which would explain why the Nikon software could not convert, but it is not yet possible for the Adobe software to read? What can I do? Please help me.

That's what I get with almost all of the NEF files:

The files seem to be intact, I can open the bridge itself or Photoshop, just can not launch applications from the file.

If the problem persists without using iPhoto for the transfer

It must be a typo and instead of iPhoto, you mean Adobe Photo Downloader?

You can use iPhoto in combination with ACR, because each of them have their own method of conversion of Raw files.

This error usually, almost always points to an image file damaged or corrupted.

If you have used the Nikon software to copy the files to your Mac, be advised that such software Nikon is infamous for having damaged files in the process.  Use the Mac Finder or, better, the bridge to download your images.

A faulty card, a hard disk failing, a bad USB port or cable can also be the cause of damaged files.

I've never seen or heard of this error message generated on a Mac by a bad installation of Camera Raw or something other than a file corrupted or damaged.

  • Problem with opening of Nikon NEF files

    Separated from this thread.

I have the same problem with a single Nikon reflect the lens of the camera.  He said that it is a NEF file type.  And windows media player does not recognize and cannot play.  Help, please.

    Hello

NEF files are owner of Nikon RAW format and cannot be opened in Windows Media Player.

You have a few options, including:

    • Download and install Nikon ViewNX2 which can open NEF files.
    • Install Microsoft Camera Codec Pack which will then allow your NEF files to be perceived as file/Windows Explorer and the Windows Photo Gallery (check your camera for taking pictures is listed in the Details section, or it may not work). The links are:

Microsoft Camera Codec Pack  (Windows Vista/Windows 7)

Microsoft Camera Codec Pack (Windows 8.1)

    • Use the photo editing software owner (with necessary plug-ins installed if necessary) to open and edit NEF images.

When you open an NEF image in an application, you should then be able to record it in a much more widely supported such as JPG image format. There will be a loss of quality when you do well, but still, good results can be obtained.  Once in JPG format (for example), Windows Media Player will be able to open the images.

If you don't want to use NEF files in the future, your camera should be able to take/save directly the images in JPG format. Check the settings of your camera.

Yes.   You can download service packs from Microsoft.  The following Microsoft KB article has links to download SP1a, SP2, and SP3 from Microsoft.  Note that you do not need to install Service Pack 1a.  Installing Service Pack 2 will actually install SP1a and SP2.  Also note that the SP1a or SP2 must be installed before installing SP3.

    • Defrag never stopped, didn't report it was over, or what "improvements", he did. I had to "Cancel".
    • Files was between 15 and 30 seconds to open "Preview".
    • The 'Work' folder was still present in the directory tree display. When I clicked it, however, he was nowhere to be found. Could not display it in the command line or from the administrator command prompt. Just a folder with some of my most valuable files - gone!
    • Defrag has run longer than 24 hours because: 1) the instructions says it could take several hours and 2) he has spent most of the time 'analysis' 3) all other options are grayed out and 4) 'You can still use your computer while the defragmentation process'... Finally, I had enough.
    • To the best of my knowledge, I did not remove the file still less his file.

Have you had a glance at this startup repair disk?

Download the ISO on the link provided and make a record of repair time it starts.

Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.

When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.

Pls help me Sir, I would like to Win7 in my computer again.

    Hello

Thanks for posting your query on the Microsoft Community.

According to the description of the problem, it seems that you are facing the question with the reinstallation of Windows 7 on your computer.

Because the computer does not recognize the CD - R into the DVD player probably boot order is set to hard drive first. I suggest to change the DVD boot priority in the BIOS and then try to perform the Startup Repair.

Note: BIOS change / semiconductor (CMOS) to complementary metal oxide settings can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the configuration of the BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Changes to settings are at your own risk.

In order to make changes in the BIOS, I suggest you to contact the manufacturer of the computer.

    Method 1:

Unplug all external devices connected to the computer with the exception of the keyboard and mouse and check if the problem persists.

    M odes 2:

If the problem persists try the Startup Repair. It is one of the recovery tools in the System Recovery Options menu. This set of tools is on your computer's hard disk and on the Windows installation disc. To learn more about Startup Repair , you can refer to the below mentioned article:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/Startup-Repair-frequently-asked-questions

    Method 3:

In addition, if startup repair is not enough, you can perform a system restore, check if it helps you to solve the problem. For reference, you can see the article mentioned below.

What are the system recovery options in Windows 7?

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/what-are-the-system-recovery-options-in-Windows-7

Note: when you perform the system restore to restore the computer to a previous state, programs and updates that you have installed are removed.

Hope it would help. If problem persists always post back with the current state of your computer and the result of the proposed suggestion, we will be happy to help you.

    Kind regards

  • Hard to edit NEF files in Ps CS6 from Lr

    Hello friends

I use Lr CC 2015 for these past few weeks and I suddenly have problems of editing the NEF files in my Ps CS6. LR is giving me a prompt Camara 9.6 gross required and there are three options to choose from. If I choose open with Lr, then the files is due open in Ps CS6 but with additional problems that add trouble to my workflow. If you choose the option shown above, then a PSD file is automatically created which is automatically added to the collection of catalogue /-that I don't want. As I finish my montages in the CS6 Ps and save the file as a JPEG, this new JPEG file is NOT automatically get registered in the collection as part of the stack - which has been a part of my default workflow from Lr began "stacking" characteristic. In fact, even a few weeks back there is no problem by opening NEF files in CS6 and after mounting, those were to me collection automatically added as part of the battery with the original RAW file.

I don't want the PSD files, but I want the JPEG file to add that happening before.

So please help me to solve this problem.

    Thank you

LR imports only the documents that you use to register with, not save as.

You use edit in PS, select Open in any case one of the 3 options data when he complains of needing ACR 9.6, which should result in your seeing a NAVE in the title bar of the open document, not a TIF or PSD, then you can do save (not save under) which will automatically lead to the top save it under where you can select JPG format and it should automatically be included in your catalog.  The reason to register slot, even if you have chosen to record is because you cannot save in the document of the NAVE which is listed in the title bar and it generates automatically allows recording to jpg.

If you edit in PS and LR create a PSD or TIF on the way in PS, as you describe as what you do, now, then your backup will simply save as TIF or PSD document even once, which will include as TIF or PSD in LR and any attempt to save as to a JPG does not include the JPG.

If you previously received a JPG in LR so it's because you were doing a Save not save as.  Something changed with your workflow, where you meet LR generate a TIF or PSD.  This is the reason why the jpg files are is automatically included.

If you are is more invited three options that include open anyway as you do an Edit in PS, maybe you chose not to show once again, when he asked you and he jumps just ask and do whatever you chose this last time.  If this is what is happening, then go in LR preferences and click Reset all WARNING Dialogs going ask that even once and you can choose open anyway when he complained of needing 9.6 ACR.

Of course, to use the software as designed, would be to use PS CC 2015.5 with LR CC 2015.6.1 and it should work without problems, except for a reason, you still use CS6.

    --

I asked if you were using edit in PS or else to go to the PS, because you could also have defined photoshop.exe a third external editor and call it directly using change in PS.exe, bypassing the normal editing in PS.  A third editor always creates a TIF or PSD.

  • Suddenly unreadable NEF files in Lightroom

    Hello

I'm starting to work on photos taken with Nikon D90 (NEF files) a few days ago.

I renamed with Lightroom, some of them and the pictures become illegible with Lightroom (I can see them but not edit them or export) and Windows File Explorer (an error message appears and I can't see the pictures)

I can read with Fastone viewer and Nikon ViewNX.

On the picture you can see the sign! This means that the files are unreadable and the French message "the file cannot be opened in Lightroom" means "the file cannot be opened in Lightroom.

    Lightroom problem 01.JPG

    Lightroom problem 02.JPG

It seems the problem happens when I rename the pictures because I can read and modify the files with the old name, but not the new name one.

Could you help me to solve the problem and explain to me what is happening?

Sorry for my bad English and I hope be clear

    Thank you for your help

    Olivier

I saw two different icons exclamation point in Lightroom. This one seems to indicate you don't have the right version of Lightroom, or it seems to be a corruption of file, so the message may not be read. What version of Lightroom do you use?

In addition, other exclamation point icon produced an error message indicating that the file is missing.

I would recommend that you download the latest version (9.6.1), unless you have an older operating system which will not support it.

Mac: Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter: for Macintosh

Win: Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter: for Windows
