name/type of downloaded attachments is changed to attachment.ashx or something similar

Access to an e-mail account on the site below which provides to Microsoft Outlook Web access. Since the last updated Firefox to version 8.0, the true name/type of email attachments I download is changed to attachment.ashx (or attachment1.ashx etc if there are several files downloaded. It's very embarrassing. Note that the problem does not exist when you download attachments on aol.com. When I use IE as a browser, there is also no problem. Version/system details below are correct.

Outlook Web Access sends a Content-disposition header that is illegal to Firefox. This is no longer allowed in Firefox 8. Firefox 9 will have a work around for this so that Microsoft has set their software.

I want to see the name of a file before I download it as an attachment, but the names of files in the file download blue box only see the part of the name. I click on "View files flaps" but who only works in windows Explorer. I need the full name in the window of blue line screen upload. How then can I list instead of several columns of short filenames?

    Hi Bess,

It would be better that you could provide more information on this issue.

What application you are trying to download the file? Is any e-mail Application or SkyDrive?

If you try to upload a file with a long file name to the SkyDrive or Mail application, it wouldn't show the full name of the file when the download of the file. It shows only a part of the name of the file. It comes to the design of these applications.

To find the full file name, the only option is to rename the name of the file to a short name and then download the files on the machine or SkyDrive App.

    I hope this helps.

  • Vista will not display description of the file on mouse over. File name, Type, size, and Date modified see the upward, but no description.

Vista will not display description of the file on mouse over. When I mouse over, a pop-up window displays showing: file name, Type, size and Date of change, however, it does not show the description of the file.

So, for example if I have 5 files on different types of screw - the description tells me that the size of the screws. IE. 1.5 mm or 1. 8 mm.

Update: try to get the description of the file displayed messing around in the file properties, now out of 10 records, only 2 includes the name of the file in the mice on the pop-up window. So now what lack us, it's the file name and the Description file.

  • Always downloaded files like "attachment.ashx" instead of the file name and file type they actually are.

Since I installed the new version of Firefox (version 8.0), I download each file is downloaded as "attachment.ashx" and will not open. I need to change the name and the type of file to open the document.

This happens regardless of whether I download e-mail, a Web site, etc... All the files I downloaded also have been appointed and had added of file types, but Firefox them changes every time. I've never had this problem before using the same sites and downloads.

    Hi Linda,.

You can download and rename the file with a .doc extension, so you can open them with word, sorry for my late reply.

  • Downloaded attachments are now in as genericlly named ashx instead of their names and native format files. How to get back to normal?

I'm running Firefox on a MAC with OS X 10.6.8 or when you download the files now come as a generic file 'attachment.ashx' instead of having their original name and the extension. I can change the extension to the original and the file opens but it of a pain to have to rename and change the extension for each download. It just started and I want to know how to get that back to the previous mode of download.
    Thank you!

  • Thunderbird does not remove virus when downloaded attachments e-mail message is deleted

I have Thunderbird set in place with two email accounts, IMAP connections separate. Messages are downloaded locally when they arrive and are deleted from the server when I delete my Inbox, the local is a mirror of the server messages. Since an update (possibly to version 30.0), I noticed a curious situation:

My Anti Virus (Eset Endpoint Security: Business Edition Version 5) during the analysis of the computer comes up with many viruses, located in my local thunderbird profile, these are then cleaned and removed by the antivirus, but subsequent analyses, are types of viruses and the change number.

I am pretty sure that is happening is this: I get a small amount of spam - 20 emails per day for each mailbox, these are easy to recognize and remove, what I'm doing, however some of them have fake / accessories virus that downloads of Thunderbird (I guess), but when I delete the message the attachment is not also deleted and is rather left dormant and detached but is then discovered by the Antivirus Scan.

It happened pretty constantly for the last 6 months, at least, he never came before and my amount of spam has been pretty constant - it seems to be a problem with an upgrade (maybe). So, how to remove local attachments when I delete a message in Thunderbird? I also assume that perhaps the attachment has a way to work around or otherwise refuse the removal.

To sum up, the viruses are NOT active, they are NOT infect my computer, but they are sitting in my Thunderbird profile waiting to be activated. the ONLY way that these would get here is via downloads of spam that I receive, and I do not delete the email, but my evidence suggests that the infected attachments are NOT deleted as well.
I haven't checked if attachments are deleted from the server, which is a bit beyond my capabilities at this point, but the enamel was / is displayed deleted from the server.

All help to eliminate these threats, sleep would be very useful, thank you.

failure to understand the storage process causes a lot of gnashing of teeth and lost hair.

Thunderbird uses a MBOX file to store the messages in a folder. When the mail is deleted n it is not removed from this Thunderbird mbox file, it is marked as deleted.

For those old enough databases flat files have used this to improve performance since the time of dbase. Anti virus programs come and start to juggle with the contents of the mbox with very varying results file. Nortons will erase the entire MBOX file and everything is gone. Others try to edit the file and remove the forest, what they dislike, most often, the result is corruption.

As it's inactive data that accesses not personally I just exclude the scanner files. Security which locates ostensibly deleted data and streams it is arm and crying wolf is not security, but a shade, and I use ESET.

Basically deleted re-writing of the MBOX files to exclude mails in that the compacting process is all about, it's expensive and inappropriate time off in there is a little clean task. In the case of the IMAP account defining the expunge on output view compaction usually occur when the program is closed every day.
Right-click on select them settings under set server settings and account write off at the exit. Otherwise daily compaction is necessary to keep the empty files of deleted material.

When the single file by mail arrives (I hope in TB38). Most of this will be questionable that the removal of mail "can" delete the file

  • Why I can't download attachments in the emails? I use Wind.Int.Explorer.

Often, I receive an e-mail with a document to open or be ownloaded d. I use the new program area of Comcast .net receive on Vista. Comcast said it was a Microsoft problem. The document said that usually it's a Word 2007 Document allowing macros. When I hit open, it opens a window and save in a file. It doesn't seem to be a way to open this file in the place of «.saved» So, how to open these attachments?

Need a program on your system that can read Word documents.  You have MS Word/Office or the free Word Viewer http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=3657ce88-7cfa-457a-9aec-f4f827f20cac&displaylang=en or the free OpenOffice www.openoffice.org (that I recommend in your current situation if you do not have Word/Office) or something else that does the job (but you must be SURE he can read Word 2007 documents allowing macro.)  Earlier versions of Word or Word Viewer (or same OpenOffice) might have problems with such a document unless they have been updated to handle the new format (and can be done at the center of technical support of Microsoft Office or by downloading the latest versions of OpenOffice or Word Viewer).  Once installed, then you can then read attachments and Word documents.  Try to open attachments again.

Maybe there is a problem with the associations.  Double-click on any Word on your system (probably one in Documents or on your desktop) and see if it opens Word and displays the document.  In fact, try to open the saved file to see if you can.  If so, then the associations work and which is not the problem.  If no, go to Start/Default / programs / associate a file or Protocol with a program / search .doc and check the default program - is probably not Word.  Click on edit, then select Word.  If Word is not an option, click Browse and locate the file winword.exe (somewhere in Program Files) and make it the default.  Do the same for .docx and .rtf (and any other type of file that Word to open).  Then try to open the attachment again (you may need to reboot for changes to take effect).

If this does not work and you have the right programs so I am sorry to say that the problem is probably with the e-mail program and not with Microsoft (Word or Vista) - despite what you have been told by comcast.  Try using Microsoft Mail or Microsoft Live Mail like e-mail software to see if you can get your email and download attachments of one of these programs.  It shouldn't be too difficult to implement one of them (Microsoft Live Mail is a little better, but it must be downloaded while Microsoft Mail is already installed) - parameters should be essentially the same that you use for your comcast mail (you may need to go into the settings of mail to comcast to get them because they probably put in place for you and you don't know them).  If you can get Microsoft Mail or Microsoft Live Mail to send and receive email, and then send yourself a Word attachment and then when you receive it see if you can open it.  If you can, then the problem is certainly their e-mail software (and you can prove to them telling them that it works with Microsoft Mail or Windows Live Mail).

A work around until the problem is resolved, just save attachments and then open documents saved - at least you will be able to access the information in this way until common sense is fixed.

If none of the works above, try posting your question in the online Forum to get Networking, E-mail, to: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistanetworking/threads where the people who specialize in problems like yours email will be more than happy to help you with your problem.

  • Why this all my Outlook email attachments download now as "attachment.ashx" (which has never happened before the 8.0 update)?

After Firefox update to 8.0, attachments that come in my Outlook email so not download correctly. The attachment in the email is still correct, but when I go to open or download the file, the window that opens to ask what to do with the file calls the file 'attachment.ashx '. I have never seen it before. If I rename the file after you download and put the correct format on it (.jpg, .pdf, etc.), the file opens correctly.

How can I get my attachments to download again with their appropriate file name and the file extension?

This should now be fixed in Firefox 9 - please download and install it here - mozilla.org/firefox

  • Suddenly yesterday all types of files are downloaded as 'attachment.ashx' instead of pdf, doc, or something else.

I use Firefox for many months to access my work using Outlook Web Access (OWA) mail. By clicking on an attachment always resulted in the download file intact (for most PDF files and Word documents). All of a sudden yesterday all types of files cause the download of 'attachment.ashx '. I had not changed anything in Firefox. I restarted Ff, then my computer without effect. Then, I deleted and reinstalled Ff - no change. Now in the window of the files PDF and documents are not listed, but I can't go in there when even because they do not download as such. I use Ff on Mac OS 10.6.8 8.0.

Further investigation showed that Outlook Web Access has been set only for Chrome (in Exchange 2010 SP1), but not for Firefox (so he sends different responses to different browsers and send content always broken for Firefox).

I encourage the people affected to this to open a case of pension at Microsoft while the Firefox team focuses on how best to improve the situation within Firefox.

  • The name of the download file

    Hi all
I have the code to download a file on the server and I'm entered general information in a MySQL 5 DB table so that when the file is displayed as a link, the user is directed to the right file. However, for some reason the code I am using is not capture the name of the file as if it was in another application. Can someone tell me why I get actually the path of entire file inserted into the DB table when all I seek to capture is the name of documents?

I have attached the code for your control.

    Thank you

Run cffile first and then the insert query. in the use of the query
    ' #cffile.serverfile # ' instead of ' #form.videocontents # '.
CFFILE. ServerFile contains the name of the downloaded file stored on the server.
the form of file type field allows only the use to select a file to download. There
real value is a temp cf file that is created during the download and
    deleted after successful download.

Mail becomes incredibly slow, but only if I download attachments (photos, files pdf, etc]

This has happened a lot lately.

However, if I can download files attached to my iMac mail becomes so incredibly slow, even if I delete the email with the files. If I quit Mail and then restart the problem persists... Follow these steps to start in safe mode.

    1. Start or restart your Mac.
    2. As soon as you hear the startup tone, hold down the SHIFT key.
    3. Release the SHIFT key when you see the logo Apple appears on the screen.

After the Apple logo appears, this may take longer than usual to reach the login screen or your office. This is because your Mac performs a check of directory of your drive to boot in safe mode.

To leave safe mode, restart your computer without pressing any keys during startup.

Then try to download an attachment.
