Vista will not display description of the file on mouse over. File name, Type, size, and Date modified see the upward, but no description.

Vista will not display description of the file on mouse over. When I mouse over, a pop-up window displays showing: file name, Type, size and Date of change, however, it does not show the description of the file.

So, for example if I have 5 files on different types of screw - the description tells me that the size of the screws. IE. 1.5 mm or 1. 8 mm.

Update: try to get the description of the file displayed messing around in the file properties, now out of 10 records, only 2 includes the name of the file in the mice on the pop-up window. So now what lack us, it's the file name and the Description file.
Help, please...

Description of the file in as long as this is not one of the available variables, which can be shown with ToolTips - but there are others who could easily serve the same purpose. Here are the options:

Here is an article on how to change what is shown. http://www.ghacks.net/2008/02/10/customize-windows-explorer-tooltips/ . It is to change the registry, make sure you so first back it up before doing anything so that you can recover in case you make a mistake (or do the right thing, but it does not work as expected). http://www.instant-registry-fixes.org/how-to-backup-windows-vista-registry/ .

I hope this helps.

The test fails (SFC) checks for corruption in the files on your system.  If she can't even complete, she suggests the Vista all system needs to be re-installed - but you have already done this and you still have the problem.

In fact, look like a hardware problem.  Here are some troubleshooting guidelines hardware that can help (but probably not for this question as what you really need, it is a replacement for test):http://elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Hardware_Tshoot.  Frankly, I think it's time to take the system to a repair facility of good reputation for the service computer (or to return to the manufacturer for repair - costs, schedule, guarantees and make a decision).  I don't know what hardware component.

If you can, try to back up your data before you import it it because they will probably wipe the drive clean during the process. You can use Knoppix http://www.knopper.net/knoppix/index-en.html with a good ISO as Copier: http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm as well as a blank CD (perhaps done on another computer).  This should give you enough access to the system (if you do not have any other means) to backup your important data.  Otherwise, try slaving the drive to another system and access the data in this way.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

    Hi Casey785,

Welcome to the Microsoft answers site.

Step 1: Run (Checksur.exe) system update readiness tool

Download and run (Checksur.exe) system update readiness tool. After downloading this tool, it runs an ad hoc analysis of inconsistencies that might prevent future maintenance operations.

For more information about how to download and run the system update readiness tool, click on the number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: 947821 Description of the system update tool for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821

Article 947821, scroll down to the "Microsoft Download Center" section and then click on the link to download the update for your operating system preparation tool

Step 2: Reset the Windows Update components

You will need to maybe reset the Windows Update components, download the Microsoft fix - it from the link and run the wizard that automatically resets the windows update components, if it does not, I recommend that reset you manually update windows components from the link:

How to reset the Windows Update components? : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058

These steps should solve the problem, give it a try and check if you are able to perform windows updates.

  • Vista will not start - I want my files

I have so much data on my hard drive, but probably only a quarter of the space. One day, I had to use my laptop, but Vista wouldn't start. I turned off via the power button and not kept trying once again - no luck. On the normal start, he would charge for always on the Green loading bar 'Microsoft Corporation'. On system repair mode, it would stop right after this loading bar, on a black-blue screen. After several attempts, I am to decide get a new laptop. Here is some information on my old laptop: model: HP Pavilion Entertainment PC processor: AMD Turion 64 x 2 Windows Vista Home Premium please help me. If you know how to solve this problem, so I am able to make a recovery disk, please say so. If you know good ways to recover the data by other means, which would be also appreciated. Thank you very much. :)

Yes, you can burn the iso to a DVD-R as well.

    http://www.CGSecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk

TestDisk is available on several systems based on Linux. For the recovery and the work of diagnosis, one of the most user-friendly tools IMO is Parted Magic. Download the iso here:

    http://PartedMagic.com/download.html

Instructions on how to burn it on a DVD are on this page. To use the bootable DVD, you have created, you must be sure that your bios boot sequence includes your DVD drive and place BEFORE the hard drive (this is my normal configuration). This way if there is a bootable CD/DVD in the optical drawer closed, the PC he uses. If there is no disk (or a non-bootable floppy disk) in the status bar, the PC will look for a bootable partition on your primary hard drive.

    Help, please

The point of Nancy does very well, is that from the server, the web page cannot find a file whose path begins by file:///C|/Users/tdavis/Documents/... because your C drive do not EXIST on THE SERVER.

You MUST correct these references in your code so that they actually point to the file in a relevant folder root path.

When you have not defined a site again, (as requested) DW will use an 'absolute' path to the file that includes the drive and the folder names in the path. Once the site is defined these must change to show only the location of the root folder, but this does not always happen. If you don't check and change these stray file path references before you put the files on the server, the Web page will not be able to reference what he should look and work properly.

  • Vista will not start - stuck on the progress bar with MS logo

Yesterday afternoon, my HP desktop PC would not initialize. The progress bar would be continually scroll down with MS logo, and it will never change. I tried unplugging all USB ports and running system recovery. This morning, the PC said something to the tune of «this machine could not be restored...» If you have recently made a hardware change try to return to your old configuration. If problems persist, please contact your administrator. »

We had the machine for about 18 months with no problems at all. It is equipped with AMD processors and is running 32-bit Vista Home Premium. I currently have anti-virus protection of software and spyware. I don't think that the office came with a recovery CD. There is a restore disc but I don't know if that was consulted. I tried to boot normally and repair the command prompt startup files with no luck.

I hope that we bought the extended warranty from Staples, but meanwhile information or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

The Advanced Boot Options menu lets you start Windows in advanced troubleshooting mode. You can access the menu by turning on your computer and pressing the F8 key before Windows starts. Try the loads up in safe MODE , there may be some drivers that are corrupt or using last known good Configuration.
