• How to Power Nap, sleep & AutoPowerOff play together?

Hello

Configuration & system background: This is related to a network of small business for which I wrote a custom backup script that I have tested before deploying. The script rsyncs selected files from the workstation (2013 Mac Pro, OS X 10.11.6) on the server via wifi with an Airport Extreme. SSH without password is used by root to connect from the desktop to the server. The server is a Mac Mini (OS X 10.11.6/Server 5.1.7) 2014 end set not to sleep.

The script is loaded from launchd and is set to run at designated times throughout the day and night. It seems to work fine when my computer is awake. I read launchd to run programmed events when a computer wakes from sleep. What seems really do experience during the night (when I'm personally in mode "sleep"), it's that the script will run intermittently (i.e., not to the regular time) but it fails because the first use of SSH (of rsync) will expire. Full hostname of the server is used in the script, Vice President of the IP address.

On the workstation, Power Nap is enabled and the computer is allowed to sleep. pmset standbydelay = 10800 (3 hrs) and autopoweroffdelay = 14400 (4 hours). My understanding is that information in Mail, Notes, Contacts, etc., will be updated only if these applications are running. on my computer, I think that Notes was the only one running all night.

Assumptions:

(1) power Nap allows the script runs because the computer has partial wake up during the night.

(2) the script is falling in the night economy modes of energy of the workstation do not allow DNS queries.

Then test: I got standbydelay and autopoweroffdelay every 12 hours and see if the script runs correctly this evening.

Issues related to the:

(1) my assumptions seem valid?

(2) which of these modes of standby energy disables searches DNS or other network activity?

(3) someone has a link to the proper documentation describing the technical inter-agency interactions when Power Nap is active?

Thanks in advance.

UPDATE: change the standbydelay and autopoweroffdelay every 12 hours seems to allow the script to run. Execution does not at the scheduled time, so in my opinion, it happens when something else wakes the computer (the NAP is enabled). However, it seems much more likely to be broken pipes at night that I do during the day, and I'm this troubleshooting.

On the server, I confirmed by the newspaper pmset that computer don't is not reported as being put to sleep, so now I am bad shooting other things which could cause a part of the network to not work properly.

So I think that I have answered my first question (i.e., valid assumptions), I'm still looking for help to question 3.

Thank you.

• Active power Nap

With active Power Nap, with El Capitan 10.11.5 iMac

With it a feature to check for new messages; Does this mean that Apple mail must be open so that it works even if the computer is in "standby", and what other things NAP can do?

Hi Neon3214,

Should mail, in fact, be open for the NAP to the arrival of new messages while your Mac is asleep. For more information about the features provided by Power Nap, see article below.

• Mail, Notes, Contacts, calendar, reminders, photo stream, find my Mac and iCloud documents are checked hourly. To receive updates during NAP time, Mail and Notes must be open before your Mac beds.

• Napa-GL8E Motherboard BIOS update problems

Hi, I have a Pavilion Elite m927a and Sunday, this update of the Napa-GL8E motherboard BIOS wanted to install. I did, and then all the computer froze. I was like, oops. so I forced it closed (power button which took place) and rebooted, and the same update arrived. I though maybe if I get rid of the process would lead, it does not freeze? so I forced it shut again, and the entire computer is dead. Would not boot the computer and emitted a beep code in groups of two, given that the BIOS was not happy (couldn't get the MESSAGE). So, I would have reset the BIOS myself, ' cept that I just bought a month ago, and I didn't kill my warranty, so I called HP and got a technician of po as a side note, it took over an hour for a person pick up, and I've been waiting very unfortunately. Anyway, the Grinch came to a fixed rate (I don't know what he did I wasn't there), but it doesn't have me talk about the update, and now, she wants to always be updated the update even that caused all the trouble.

My question is this; What should I do about it? I'm too scared to run it again in fear of having to w8 for a technician again.

Ty! ^^

Do not install it.

Word to the wise, do not install an update of the BIOS, unless you have a problem or you need something like a new game or software.

This hp article should help you remove the element of updates (especially the last two sections):

• Can I switch to an Intel Pentium D 945 on a card mother Napa-GL8E?

Hello, I have a HP Pavilion a6403w with an Intel Dual - Core processor E2160 (1.8 GHz) on a card mother Napa-GL8E. I would like to know if it is possible to switch to an Intel Pentium D 945 (3.4 GHz) on this motherboard. Before that everyone goes to the top and say no, I read a few post image Core 2 s running on this motherboard. And if an Intel Pentium D 945 would not work, what else would be a good upgrade for my PC? Thank you.

(Edit: Opps, I posted this in the wrong forum.)

Computer a6403w and Napa-GL8E pages care about motherboard;

Type of socket: 775
Motherboard supports the following processor upgrades
Intel Core 2 Duo (Wolfsdale) E8xxx
Core 2 Duo E6xxx until E6850 (Conroe)
Pentium (Conroe) E2xxx series with Dual Core E2160 technology
Core 2 Duo E4xxx (Conroe)
Celeron 4xx series (Conroe) until Celeron 450

Based on this information, the Pentium D 945 only is not supported on this platform. Referring to your "multiple posts reading" on quad-core Core 2 on the Napa, the information relates mainly to non - OEM versions (read no HP) of the Board of Directors. Sumsolstice mentions the internal docs showing micocode updated but does not purely and simply that it will work. The best processor would probably be the Core 2 Duo (Wolfsdale) E8xxx series.

• MCP73M01H1 (NAPA) - using 2 + 4 GB of RAM 6400

Hi all

many motherboards can handle more than the official maximum RAM. Found a 4 GB on Ebay module and want to update my old confidence Pavilion (model 2008, Nvidia 9300 graphics, CPU E4700 processor). I'm looking an E 8400 CPU and give him an SSD and an external sound card.

Can he manage this RAM of 4 GB module? Hoping for the best, I'm upset that HP did not offer a motherboard with 4 RAM slots

Hello

Former HP PC are very ticklish with DIMMs. NAPA motherboard isn't spec'd for the DIMMs to 4 GB. See the image below.

The E8xxx Wolfdale would be a good choice for a processor upgrade. Search the E8400 or E8600.

• How to enable NAP protection without buying Norton?

Hi guys iam not the smartest tool in the shed did not use long computers, I'm running Microsoft security Essentials and windows firewall, get boring people, trying to get me to buy $400. NAP because mine is not activated, can anyone who is computer savvy help, I would be very grateful, because I am a pensioner and only use my computer for Internet, email, and social things, I don't do any banking or financial activity, so my question is what do I have to activate my Protection network and if so"how?

What about John

Microsoft network access protection is not something used by most home based computers. It is not something you download or turn on either.

NAP's platform or solution requiring hosts or servers manage network policies and customers to interact with the hosts or servers to be accepted on the network. NAP is primarily a tool to validate or authenticate the protections of the network on a computer before allowing access to a controlled or secured network.

If you are up-to-date with MSE and Windows firewall, you should be fine.

• How to enable NAP

I would like to know if it is posible to turn the PAN and it will improve my online security

If you mean, NAP, Network Access Protection, I don't. NAP is used by companies and similar organizations (large)... MSE is only allowed for consumers and very small (10 PCs) companies.

• Video problems after installation of NAP on Windows7

I'm rebuilding my computer (XPS 400) after a hard disk failure, installed OS (Windows 7), and other programs without issue. I have a monitor relatively new U2312HM, (about a year), the drivers installed and software Power Nap of the disc, now at random, the monitor disconnects and connects again while working on the computer. This isn't a problem with screensaver, it happens when I'm active on the computer. Then he would go empty and come on little no matter what I did with the mouse or the keyboard. I had to make a hard stop down. Computer starts and all goes well, and then it starts all over again. Monitor works fine, press the menu, get message not getting input from the computer. I have a videocard, NVIDIA G-Force 6800 (original to the computer)

Note, I uninstalled NAP without difference, also I am not under any demanding graphic programs. I suspect my graphics card goes... someone has any ideas?

Specifications of the computer XPS 400, CPU speed 3.0 Ghz 4.0 GB RAM

My computer specs, what card should should I need to replace?

Hi wla57,

As the problem occurs when you click on a link, you can try to copy and paste the link in a new browser window to see if it works.

In addition, the problem is with Office 2003 and IE10, I suggest you to post the question on the Microsoft Forum as well.

Please do not hesitate to answer for any further assistance. I'll be happy to help you further.

• Windows 7 computers not compatible Nap (for use with remote desktop gateway)

I'm looking to implement gateway desktop remotely with NAP to enforce the integrity of the customer.

I have gateway Remote Desktop works fine, the clients connect without problem. My problems started as soon as I implemented the NAP of the puzzle portion.

I tried three different Windows 7 machines (two off the field) but I can't get an any of them to sign in, instead, I encounter the message "your computer cannot connect to the remote computer because your computer or device did not pass the network access Protection requirements defined by your network administrator." It seems that all the three machines are in fact considered non-compliant nap because they connect very well once I change to Non-compliant NAP network policy to allow full access. I even turned off all the policy settings in the Windows security SHV, but I still can connect, so it allows to confirm that my problem is with the machines showing non-compliant nap.

Here are the steps that I took on the client:

• Napclcfg.msc to enable the customer to RD gateway quarantine enforcement.
• Services.msc to start the Network Access Protection Agent of service
• Installed the certificate for Local computer > trusted root certification authorities

I have read a number of results of research on this topic but nothing helped me to this day. Anyone know what could be my problem at hand?

Thank you

• How to enable NAP network access protectiuon?

How to enable NAP network access protectiuon?

Network access protection is a feature that should be defined by server admin, and then they could enable or disable it. If it's a personal computer, you don't need to worry about this. This is a feature of the Organization to increase network security.
