Narrowing of thick disk of 200G to 100G thick disk
Hello
I have a thick Win2008r2 provisioned disk model with a 200G drive with a single partition C:. How can I reduce this model on a stocked disc thickness 100G?
Thank you

Question of partition: partition and narrower than the disk space
Hi, I have a big problem with OS X El Capitan 10.11.3.
I used to have a Windows partition with bootcamp which I deleted via bootcamp, but it crashed.
I lost all my partitions and even os x. I have therefore started in recovery mode and launched disk utility, I could not create a partition OS X 90Go on my 120 GB SSD, and I installed OS X on it. Once installed, I have tried to maximize the size of the partition in disk utility to the actual size of the SSD, but it wouldn't work. Worse still, it actually shows my OS X partition a 60 GB instead of 90... (we also say that change log has not been activated, I allowed him but nothing happened)
How can I make my OS X partition as big as my SSD?
Here are some pictures of the utility disc and occupied disk space.
Try to launch the Boot Camp again to see if it will delete the partition. It acts like it doesn't have.

I know this has been discussed before, but I can't find a situation quite like mine and wanted to make sure that I had all my options in front of me before I did anything. It's on a box with ESXi 4.1, build 260247.
I have a virtual machine with two virtual disks: one for the operating system and one for data. One for data is 1.6 to and has two partitions: 1.1 to and a 500 GB. I would like to delete the 500 GB partition and then reduce the virtual 500 GB disk so that I can use this space on other virtual machines.
The most popular way that I found in my research is to use the VMware converter to make a copy of it and adjust the size of the disks. That however, does not seem a very viable option. There is no additional local storage to put the VM convertered files, then it will have to be written to a network device any. This combined with the fact that I would copy the OS partition too much (that I don't need), makes this option in way too slow.
My only idea is to copy all the data on the virtual disk's data to a network device or a USB (through the USB transfer), delete the virtual disk, re-create it with the appropriate size and copy the data back.
Is there a more easy/fast way to do this? I'd appreciate any help.
Thank you.
Unfortunately, the converter is the only option I know for shrink disc. However, due to the situation, I think that the copy is going to be the best method for you.
Another option is converting only select the player data to convert to the new virtual machine, shrink, migrate over and import it into the existing virtual machine after you remove the other VM. Its a roundabout way, may be slower and not also require that you have the space, but it is another option.

I just tried to resize an ASM disk and although the reaction was "successful", it does not appear to have been any change.
I was trying to shrink DATA_0001 from 200G to 100G. Am I missing something obvious?

SteveHi Steve,.
I think what happened occurred due to certain steps in your initial procedure, a corruption of ASM header that cannot be repaired automatically more. Therefore, check if ML Note 553319.1 - ORA-15036 when to start an ASM Instance - can be used to solve your problem, too.
Now, in order to avoid such things, I would make the following the next time:
Stop all except 1 ASM instance.
CHANGE Diskgorup RESIZE DISK - the disk that you want to resize.
Wait for the rebalancing that may occur finally.
stop this ASM instance
change the size of the disk to the disk level
restart all instances of the DSO.This seems to be the safest way to do it. A perspective HA, some optimization might be possible, I think.
Hope that helps. Thank you

The partition without space unallocated disk
Hi people, I'm using win - xp professional SP3. I want to partition my hard drive sparked doesn't have that one disk C with no unallocated space. I don't want to format or reinstall my operating system, is it possible that I can create a partition on my hard drive. I tried to reduce the disk, but there is no option of narrowing in the disk management window.
Help on this matter is highly appreciated
Windows XP has no native tools to do this, you need to use a third partititionneur of the to do. Acronis, Symantec, terabyte and Easus are some of the companies that come to mind that have the tools to do this. Free trial of TeraByte BootItNg utility to do this.
Remember that anything can happen when you work with disk partitions and partitioning/resizing tools, a swipe of the finger, a power failure or a software problem can easily lead to a catastrophic loss of all data on the disk, make sure you have a backup of your precious files BEFORE to proceed to this!

Tecra A11 - possible disk HARD 12.7 mm thick?
How can I check if a hard drive 1 TB 2.5 "12.7 mm thick will fit in my Tecra A11 without having to buy one to try?
Good question. Call the nearest service Toshiba and ask? I mean who can offer more help with what Toshiba service.
In any case, I'm sure you can use it.What you can do is to remove the HARD drive cover placed at the bottom. And check the installation of the HARD disk. Check the HARD drive carrier. As far as I know, 4 screws HARD drive are on the same place for two hard disks and these 3 mm should not be problematic.

Can someone point me to the literature on best practices for guest disc formats?
I know all the Compellent thin-provisions. However, in VMware 5.5, when you set up a virtual disk in the comments you have several choices:
- Lazy provisioned to zero thickness
- Eager provisioned to zero thickness
- Provision of thin
And then, at the level of the OS, you have the choice of:
- Base
- Dynamics
I would like a pointer to the technical document explaining the advantages/disadvantages of each choice and recommended best practices.
Kind regards
Kath
I would like to either thin or thick lazy to zero. The two will take the same amount of data on the HDS. The main decision is where you want to manage your storage space? If dilute you on thin you need to make sure that you make no provision in both places. If you have thick lazy to zero, then you can only on commissioning on one side.
Say that I always thin on thin. Recovery of the space at the level of the virtual computer is not officially supported immediately, but maybe someday.
In a virtualized environment, always keep it simple. There is no dynamic performance with virtualization

ENVY 15 t-j000 Quad Edition disk hard thickness
I'm looking to replace the hard drive in my ENVY 15 t-j000 Quad Edition with an SSD. HP site is not currently in the thick of the preinstalled hard drive. I'd rather get an ssd that leaves no extra unused space in the computer. What is the thickness of the hard disk installed in the ENVY 15 t-j000 Quad edition so I can pass to an ssd the same size? Thank you.
Hello
It is very safe to use 7mm thick, as mentioned in my first answer.

FVO-exporters/OVA with already Thick-Provisioned disks?
Hey guys!
I was wondering, export OVA/OVF also shrink down thick disks configured?
It would be great if she did it, because I have a VM swallow 4 TB of disk space that is to be exported, but only about 300 GB are currently used. (600 if taking into account RAID)
Thank you!
Hello
Yes, he does. In addition, it will compress the data.
Kind regards

Virtual machines deployed on VSAN without selected with THICK disk storage policy
Hello
We had an admin build 50 VMs on our data VSAN store but did not choose the VSAN storage policy while he got the default which allows you to have the THICKNESS of the disks provisioned
I have chnaged any of the virtual machines to use the VSAN storage policy (which uses a thin) but the virtual machine is still using all the space
Is there a way to make virtual machines recover white space, now they have a VSAN storage strategy?
Yes - I have to agree with Duncan. I don't think that there is a way to return/reduce the size.
An idea is, if you have additional storage, Storage vMotion VM to NFS or VMFS, converting to thin and then back to VSANS with a policy that doesn't have a "thickness".
Try it with a VM - see if it works.
A bit of a drag, I know, but I can't think of any other casual way.

VMWare esxi 5.5 - is possible to shrink a thick disk hard put into service?
Hey guys
Recently, I have increased the size of the hard drive to one of my VM to 300 GB drives when I only need 200GB.
The player is supplied thickness. Memory I don't think that you can reduce a thick disc put into service from the client VMWare 5.5.
So my question is, is there another way I can reduce this hard drive stocked thickness so I can recover unused space?
Kind regards
Aaron
Yes, technically, if you have a 300 GB windows volume supported by a thick hard of 300 GB you can do the following:
- Defragment system files comments with Raxco Disk defrag or similar, as the use of the option consolidate free space
- Try and make sure that a good number costs blocks by the end of the partition (options defrag boot use pagefile and $mft etc.)
- Reduce the 200 GB partition
- Storage vmotion virtual machine and set the destination thin format
This hard never will now have more than 200 GB unless the windows partition is cultivated but the hard remains thin. Otherwise, vmware standalone converter or vmkfstools way to go. If prefer vmkfstools.

Convert a disk of thin thickness without interruption
Can I convert all disks on a thin thickness virtual computer without turning off the virtual machine?
Yes, if you have the Storage vMotion available in your environment... just migrate the virtual machine to a data to another store and select the disk of destination in. thick.

Unable to connect the existing thick disks in VM
Hello
I am trying to establish a connection between a series of existing virtual disks and some virtual machine. So far, I was able to connect to all my discs thin-set in service without any problem with the following line:
$targetVM | New-harddisk - DiskPath ($disk. File name)
However, it seems that this command does not always work when it comes to thick-set disks in service, resulting in the following error message:
http://PUU.sh/9xBs9/a73fd64b20.PNG
I'm trying to get a work around for thick discs, but I'm out of ideas.
Thanks in advance.

Confusion of thin or thick disk
Hi all
I have a strange problem.
We have a several s vm disk who told me are thick, but all I can see suggests that they are thin.
In the data of one of the disks store, it says the following: size and put into service, which shows me the disc is thin.
Do not know why the size shows still as provisioned, while the Linux operating system is no indication that 52 GB is used out of the 100 GB provisioned
When your right click on the vmdk, you have the ability to inflate the disc, this also highlights the disc being thin provisioned.
According to my understanding, the inflation option should be grayed out, be they vmdk is supplied thickness.
When you right-click the virtual machine, select edit it also shows the drive as being thin
Someone has seen a question similar to this one before or can help clarify if my argument of the disk being thin is correct or not.
Thank you
JIT
According to your screenshots, discs are THIN provisioned. If the disk is THICK you get a column 'Provisioned size' (screenshot Ref first). I assume you are using the VI client.
Also you don't get not "inflate the option" If the disk is THICK. You are right.
