NB 100 - upgrade to intrepid Ibex - 8.10

Hello

I was able to load Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid successfully the Toshiba NB 100. It works perfectly until you update with the new kernel and get the latest updates via the Update Manager. When I charge intrepid, everything except the wireless worked out of the box.

After the updates, I lost the cable and network. So basically the new kernel completely disabled my internet connection. No wired or wireless network. I have somehow managed to get my woreless running with madwifi drivers. It worked without any problem. But I still haven't the NB 100 wired network connection. I tried to set dhcp and static IP, no anything.

My hard drive also makes a rattling noise. It was more default Hardy Heron. When I upgraded to Intrepid, the rattling reduced but it is still there. OAT hard drive usually makes spiining noise. is this normal? It seems as if the hard drive is one of opportunity, perhaps one of those who has used and abused for 2 or 3 years.

No response for the cable running network will be appreciated.

Rest all works well with the modernization and upgrading of 8.10. The resulting sound is detected, webcam detected, Skype works.

Best regards

I had the same problem with the cable network. No solution. But also for display: compiz doesn't work anymore.

I posted a thread in the forum of Ubuntu:
http://UbuntuForums.org/showthread.php?t=1068624

Could you tell me if compiz works for you?

Thanks in advance,
Stone

    Hello

Well, this unit is a little older. As far as I know, the HARD drive is under the keyboard.
In this case, you will have to remove all covers. Unfortunately, I n t find any detailed documents related to this procedure.

But I know that at the bottom of the device, you can find the modular Bay. This allows you to add an additional hard drive. I found some information that you can use a 30.0 GB HDD modular Bay.
In this case, you can use two hard drives of your laptop.

  • System update / installation in a freshly restored z60t 2511-EJG software

    Hello, is Ottorino.

I ' ts good to know that such a forum exists.

I hope to find the answer to a problem that I can't solve.

I worked with my z60, running Debian Lenny and I almost forgot to winXP,

with the exception of some applications that I really need (mostly Nokia PC suite). (The dual boot still worked very well).

A couple of last week, I started XP, for my mobile phone backup and thinkvantage asked me for updates. I let the system to download a lot of patches and updates, but on reboot I got a lot of problems.

I never managed to return to the status of previuos (working!).

I have all my copies of backup (partimage), but nevertheless, I decided to buy the recovery CD set and start from scratch the whole thing.

Therefore, I made the offline restore procedure to return the computer to factory conditions.

Then I removed all of the things that I have no need (symantec, diskeeper lite, games, Messenger).

After the reboot, I installed my antivirus and also launched a thinkvantage system update.

After awhile, the thinkvantage system update responded a bit like 'nothing to upgrade' or more.

I noticed that in Explorer (6.0), there was an icon thinkvantage (Installer): when you press it, a update/upgrade process began, but ultimately failed.

I then googled around and I realized that the Installer software is no longer supported.

While searching on Google, I let XP to download and install Service Pack 3.

After a reboot, update system started by itself, tried to connect and download something (732,52 KB), it keep on downloading up to 42% and once again ended by saying "the sistem need not update/update" or similar.

Then I tried to install a new version of system update (3.14), but before I installed the NET.framework 2.0 such as requested by lenovo, but without any improvement.

Update system connects, start downloading and eventually stop on 42%.

I would like to see as the stuff of thinkvantage functioning again, before installing debian.

Any suggestion to create works of thinkvantage?

    Thank you very much

    Hi eheikell,

Yes all that happened in the weekend.

I really need the laptop this week, that's why I was in a hurry.

    Thanks for the information.

I'll check the site in the coming weeks.

    Just for the records...

I installed Ubuntu Intrepid ibex, yetesterday and installation was really child's play.

Only a few adjustments to install the finger drive.

If I think that thinkvantage has been designed to help users to...

  • questions h8xt HPE

seek the ps 600w for a charge of $100 upgrade. I can't find the specs on this unit. Is it profitable to make an HP upgrade or buy a name brand ps by external sources. In others is a 80% effective. 600W + ps a better choice for the money.  Also if I added a gtx550ti or gtx560 with the plu PS video card, is it really broken down in this cabinet with a fan provided wardrobe.  Thank you

    Hello

Looking for some of the higher end model HPE, PSU 600 watts HP runs $70 - $100 depending on the model.  Newegg has the Corsair CX600 on sale for $60 (normally $70) and it is a 80% + efficient quality PSU.

Getting a HP video card can be difficult to describe the cost of verses of performance.  HP has in the past used special specifications that makes OEM card interpreter diffferent (less performance but less power).

I run a block of power SUPPLY Corsair HX650 and 460 NVIDIA in my HP e9280t cupboard without problems.

Between 460 and 560 energy consumption is almost equal.  The 550TI takes about 30% less power.  If you're concerned about heat then consider the Radeon 6850. The Radeon 6850 will support 3-4 monitors and the price is very good ($150 Newegg).

You can compare cards video here.

Review the specifications of performance ATI and NVIDIA . Look at the specifications of strip memory bandwidth and level of DirectX support.

BTW, I can't find the specifications of the 600 watt power supply either.

  • Qosmio F60-100 - after that upgrade RAM screen goes black

    Hello world
    I upgrade my RAM a g-skill 2 * 4 GB 1066 Mhz DDR3
    I have a Qosmio F60-100
    I am on Windows 7 pro N
I checked whether they have updated bios (the toshiba soft explain to me, that there is not an update available)
I checked if the RAM were compatible with my laptop (these have been suggested to me)

When I put the new RAM in the laptop, in "Starting Windows", the screen goes black and the fan works hard.
So I'm not able to install my new RAM.

These ram are compatible with my laptop?
    What is the problem?

Thanks so much for all those who can help you.

PS: English is not my mother tongue, sorry about that...

    Hello

According to your Qosmio notebook specifications can be improved up to 8 GB. The comparable memory modules are:
    2 GB DDR3-1066-PA3676U-1M2G
    4 GB DDR3-1066-PA3677U-1M4G

I don't know that references your RAM modules but the behavior described is probably as a result of the use of non compatible modules.

    Hello!

I have a satellite 1800-100 and I was wondering if the computer's bios supports a pentium 3 cpu, it has a celeron processor. I found a topic http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=1591&messageID=3907#3907

Can someone tell me if this is possible? a P3 850 is really cheap and it could be a great upgrade :)

    Thank you

    Hello

The processor upgrade is not possible, as far as I know. A long time ago a user has tried the same thing and the new processor has damaged a whole unit because it was not properly cooled.

    Please be careful about this.

    Hello

I Don t think there is plenty of room for upgrading this computer with a new processor. It will be perhaps better to buy a new machine for the money, which will make you spend to upgrade this old machine. :)

    Storm99,

Daniel has formulated a hypothesis unfortunately all wrong.

There are only 3 CPU for this computer, all the 25W. See your system specs here:

    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c02822223

The max would be the Athlon II 270u (Regor) (25W) 2.0 GHz

PS > you power supply is only of 90W.

  • Satellite S1800-100 is very slow - should I upgrade RAM?

    Hello

I am running Windows XP with Service Pack 3 on a Satellite 1800-100.

The performance is really bad, worse than when I first purchased and installed XP a few years ago. The current installation of XP is only a few weeks and I don t run a large number of programs in the background - just basically Avira antivirus.
However, when I try to open Firefox or even explore also slow down the machine becomes real and it takes forever to open a program.

I'm already looking for more RAM (128 MB only here right now) but also I can t remember the performance WHICH is bad when I installed XP for the first time.

So I thought that maybe I should upgrade the drivers and installed some drivers of
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp?service=EU

    But it runs more slowly.
Does anyone have an idea how to top the performance of the laptop in addition to buying more RAM?

Thanks a ton for any suggestion.

    Hello

The upgrade of RAM would bring you even more performance. 128 MB is not a lot of RAM and it should be updated for Windows XP.
As far as I know the laptop supports up to 512 MB of RAM and you need to pass it to 512 MB. Then Windows XP run faster.
You need RAM PC100 with each 256 MB module.

To improve performance, you can do many things. For example defrag your HARD drive, clean the startup folder and the msconfig, disable all services that you need in services.msc, disable Visual effects,.
If you're looking for here in the forum and on Google, you can find more.

  • Satellite 1800-100 microprocessor upgrade

    Hi!, thanks for this forum.

Okay, I bougth a satellite 1800-100 four years ago in a shop, here in Spain. I improve my memory with a module of kingston pc100 144 pin with 256 MB. I mounted this module because this motherboard FSB is 100 Mhz.
Now, my laptop has 384 MB of RAM.

But, I would like to increase the speed of my 1800-100

I opened the laptop to investigate the resources inside. I mounted and dismounted several times, CPU Intel celeron 800 Mhz processor. But I Don t know if it is possible to have more information on the characteristics of motherboard'internals. I would like to know which is the microphone the quicker one can get in my book. ¿Celeron 900, 1000, 1100 or more? Where can I get a pentium III 800, 900, 1000, 1100 or more? I didn t see indications or jumpers in the motherboard on the tensions, or speeds and I Don t now if this motherboard determines automatically the voltage and speed when the microphone is mounted. I have 1 or 2 microphones of fastest in the House, and I want to ride in my laptop
without the risk of burning the microphones or the motherboard. Is posible to find information on our satellite motherboard. I Don t know who is the superior of technology of microphones that are supported in my 100-1800.
It is the only way to increase the speed, because the chipset is not really good, and cheap nor quick. I think that when someone buys a computer, desktop computer or a laptop, it can receive all the documentation about the inner workings of a computer, so isn´t?

I m sorry for my questions severals, but I m very intetesred with this problem...

    Thank you all...

    Hi, Rob

Information about the technical details on his books will be no manufacturer of space available.

A laptop is high designed compact Machine, which is not
be for the upgrade of this element by anyone.

OK, hard drive and memory are no problem as long as you can catch this part by opening a ceiling with screws.

So finally, you won't find the technical details of the motherboard is this Forum here, the only chance I have is to talk directly to a technician of Toshiba.

Maybe he'll tell you a bit about you looking for ;)

  • Satellite C875-100 - WLan does not work after the victory 8 upgrade - no driver

I bought a toshiba satellite c875-100 yesterday and I did the upgrade of windows 8.
Before the upgrade of the network wireless connector worked well, after the upgrade, he doesn't.

Device Manager showed that my network connector driver was not installed.
I tried all the drivers of toshiba online for this specific model with the name 'Wireless' in it and later on al the drivers for this particular model, but every time I get the message that the Device Manager cannot find the appropriate driver.

Adesperate attempt I have just tried to choose a driver from the list of windows itself (I choose the realtek PCI wireless network card) but who gave a sudden stop of the system.

Anyone have a suggestion how to get my network controller to work?
If not, is it possible to revert to the version of windows 7, which was already installed?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi mate

As I m wrong not the laptop does support RTL8723AE Realtek Wlan card.
You need the driver that would exactly support the RTL8723AE WLan chip

  • Cannot charge the battery to 100% on X 1 carbon (A 20, 7) after the upgrade to Windows 10

I apologize if it's buried somewhere on the forum. I searched for hours, really, but did not find anything about exactly that.

After months of 'Upgrading to Windows 10' pop ups I finally did. On Windows 7, I was able to change my battery to 100% capacity before leaving for a business trip, then change it to the time where I went home. Now I can't find where to do and it won't load no more than 46%. I tried to download the Lenovo power manager that offered a job, but it doesn't have the menu item separate ' Power' as the instructions on the screen. I tried to uninstall the control method battery compatible ACPI Microsoft suggests another position, but that did not help either.

I have that option after having upgraded my Yoga 2 to 10 Windows Ultrabook. Enegery Manager is still responsible. I just want the same control on my battery on my X 1 as I have on my Yoga. Can someone help me?

    Thanking you in advance,

    Clare

I'll just throw this out there, no guarantee that your system has the exact configuration than mine or that I completely understand your problem: I have an application of parameters of Lenovo in my Windows menu. in this application of settings, there is a section of the battery, at the end of this section is a battery meter reset. I would start there get your battery threshold.

    I hope this helps.

  • Satellite L20-100 - what modules of RAM can I use for the upgrade?

    Hi all

I have TOSHIBA Satellite L20-100 and I need to upgrade the ram memory up to 2 GB.
I found these models on the internet but I don't know that it is compatible with my computer laptop or not.

the following module on the eBay store:

    * 1 GB Kingston DDR2 667 Mhz 1 GB DDR laptop 2 NB RAM *.
    * Hynix 1 GB RAM DDR2 5300 s - computer notebook memory 667 MHz *.
    * ASint 1 GB DDR2-667 PC2-5300 PORTABLE 200 pin MEMORY *.

    Already now I have 512 DDR2 667 Mhz

Or any knows from where can I update the correct RAM?

    Hello

Theoretically, you can use all modules store because all the modules to meet specifications, DDR2-RAM, 1 GB, etc. for example.

In your case, I'd take the Kingston RAM. I've never heard ASint RAM, but I have good experiences with RAM Kingston. I always use Kingston RAM to upgrade my notebooks and never had any problems.

Last but not least, you can also buy RAM of an authorized service provider.
