  If the old system does not start could be the hard drive. Put the hard drive in another computer as a 2nd drive and then access the files. If you use a computer XP, Vista or Windows 7, you should be able to access the files, unless the drive has failed.

  You can save your files by putting the drive in another computer as a 2nd drive (better) or a USB external drive case and then save up to removable media such as CD, DVD or other USB drives. Of course a real store of the computer or the manufacturer of your system can help to recover the files.

  Or you can use a boot Ubuntu CD to back up data. (This will not work if the hard disk is defective or other issues preventing the system from booting from the CD/DVD drive.)

  I've been a loyal user of HP consumer level laptop for 2 years.

  It seems that there is a problem with my laptop screen display.

  For my part, this is the first time this kind of problem has occurred.

  For some reason, in my current (well, now its my last) session, my screen became totally blank on me and turned black, as if the laptop was in a sort out of power status, however, the power of the laptop was always and until the issue has suddenly decided to occur before my eyes , I had been using the laptop and was even working on a coding operating... some of you may know me as the creator of the heavenly System.ini Crown Configuration file.

  Apparently, it is a known issue with HP Laptop, and I don't know if HP is actively focusing on the question of setting so that it does not become an inconvenience to other users of HP laptops or buyers.

  Is there a known solution as to how to fix this kind of problem? This is very critical and I was in the middle of the tent to save the rest of my code in Notepad on my desk, but I would speculate that asides from the 2 files I could save, the rest would have gone unless I would be able to resume my last session which I highly doubt at this stage.

  If someone could please let me know as soon as possible, I would appreciate it a lot.

  If you don't mind not wonder, why do you need to disassemble your laptop to clean the fans.  Just get compressed air boxes and fans of spray.

  By the way; new laptops computers Toshiba are not delivered with recover disks.
  You must create one using the Toshiba recovery disc creator, or you can use the Toshiba HDD recovery!

  PS: User manual contains also some details on the recovery process.

  If you have any sort of planning for regular backup in place, then I'm afraid that you have learned a very expensive lesson.

  The first (and only) calculation rule is Backup, Backup, BACKUP!

  Your Office 2003 NOT 'resides somewhere"on the machine, you will need to re-install from the original disc and when find you them.

  Sorry to be the harbinger of bad news, but you really really need to implement a REGULAR backup strategy.

  I recently had a virus attack and having to reinstall windows.  I tried to use the disk provided by the manufacturer, but it gave me an error... after the failure on my windows partition.  I'm now trying to reinstall windows by using a windows CD, but my serial number tag is severely damaged.  I can't do the serial number, but the bar code is still present and there are a series of numbers greater than what is clearly visible.  Can Microsoft recover my key with these figures?  I already asked at Asus and they do not store the windows serial keys.

  Unfortunately, it is the responsibility of the manufacturer who provided the license installed on the machine. If ASUS will not help you, then Microsoft cannot help either. You will probably need to invest in a new license:

  I found the procedure to create the installation disk (repair).  Apparently, you need to take to another computer window 8 to do.  You also need your own product code.  I think you need to contact asus w / the serial number of your computer and maybe they can give you the Windows product code. I had mine written down, but he lost in a recent move.
