Need to reinstall XP, have product IDS but no product key

My computer came with windows XP, but it crashed and XP was lost. If you have the product ID but no key... product and windows is... can not currently installed I install using the product ID?

http://answers.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/Forum/windows_xp-windows_install/product-ID-but-no-product-key/efabcad4-9282-4904-a575-e3734c4167e9

But skylin52 was the OP on this thread (but your post appeared there, too). You are the same poster?

The answer to your question is no the product ID is only generated once the installation is complete. So if you are prompted to enter the product key during the installation process, you must enter the product key (which is 25 characters long).

Here again, in some cases (depending on the brand and model of the PC), you are not prompted to enter the product key. What is the brand and model of your PC?

  • Is my Windows my product key license? Also, if I want to download the iso of Windows 7 yes I need to buy a license/product key of Windows 7?

Is my Windows my product key license? Also, if I want to download the iso of Windows 7 yes I need to buy a license/product key of Windows 7? Or my Windows 10 will work?

Your license is the product key.

You don't need to buy a license if you already have a product key.

Step 1: Download a copy of Windows 7:

For 5 years, Microsoft made it fairly easy for users of the Windows 7 operating system to get reinstall media. If you have lost your support disc or installation retail collection; either it has been damaged or defective; You can download a copy of the edition that you have licensed from a membership site called Digital River. More recently, Microsoft ended the availability to reinstall media that you can download as a. File ISO in Digital River, which is a digital reproduction of an optical disc.

It was particularly convenient for people who could not easily get the manufacturer's recovery media, did not want to pay the fees required to get or preferred a clean configuration without the software packaged manufacturers or even a recovery partition does not work. It's easy to use, all you had to do was reinstall and reactivate using the product key located on the certificate of authenticity and download all the drivers on the manufacturers website.

Given that this option is no longer available, what are your options? See the article for more details:

Make sure you scroll down and read the section:

What to do if you cannot get your manufacturer recovery media, refuse to use or to buy it or the Microsoft Software Recovery Website does not work?

Step 2: Perform a custom installation, see Windows 7 section of the following article how to perform a custom installation:

  • I want to reinstall Windows Vista, but I do not have a disk when I bought the laptop; I don't have product key, however; What should I do?

My old laptop is now very slow performance, no doubt because it is hopelessly cluttered with unwanted stuff, viruses etc.. So I have tried various methods of cleaning without success, I decided to reformat (all data on it has been transferred to a new laptop) and start from scratch by reinstalling Windows Vista Home (installed when I bought it). But no installation disc has been delivered, although the product no key. is located on the underside of the laptop. What should I do? I could ring you, but I don't have a land line, and a long call on my cell phone would probably cost a fortune. It would be great if you were ringing me to talk me through the process (07760 101610)

    Hello

Sorry, this is not Microsoft and we don't do phone calls that we are for the most part, Windows users help each other here...

Here are the different ways that you can reinstall Vista.

See which is more easy for you.

You can contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send you a set of recovery disks.

They should do this for a small fee.

To reinstall Vista using their recovery disk/s, you start from the 1st recovery disk they provide and follow the manufacturer's instructions to reinstall:

You need to change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order:

How to change the Boot order in BIOS:

    http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/SS/bootorderchange.htm

"How to replace Microsoft software or hardware, order service packs and replace product manuals.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/326246

And if you have never received a recovery disk when you bought your computer, there should be a recovery Partition on the hard drive to reinstall Vista on how you purchased your computer.

The recovery process can be started by pressing a particular combination of the key or keys at startup. (Power on / start)

    Maybe it's F10, F11, Alt + F10, etc., depending on the manufacturer.

Ask them to the proper key sequence.

And if you do not score a manufacturer of recovery on your hard drive, you should be able to make your own recovery from her disks to reinstall the operating system.

Go to programs > name of the manufacturer of your computer > then their system or recovery tools software topics for them, depending on how it is formulated.

If you can't find any reference to it, contact the manufacturer for advice on how to make these recovery disks.

Some manufacturers have more available Vista recovery disks.

If this happens, you may need to try this instead:

You can also borrow and use a Microsoft Vista DVD, which contains the files for the different editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) must be installed. The product key on your computer / Laptop box determines what Edition is installed.

Other manufacturers recovery DVDs are should not be used for this purpose.

And you need to know the version of 'bit' for Vista, as 32-bit and 64-bit editions come on different DVDs

Here's how to do a clean install of Vista using a DVD of Vista from Microsoft:

"How to do a clean install and configure with a full Version of Vista '

    http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/117366-clean-install-full-version-Vista.html

And once the operating system is installed, go to your computer manufacturer's website and get the latest drivers for your particular model or laptop computer.

And phone Activation may be necessary when you use the above installation method.

  • I need to reinstall Windows Vista home Premium, but I don't have it on the disc, I got a serial number.

I've upgraded to windows 7, the upgrade requires a previous version of windows must be installed before it can be used.

When I installed the upgrade first, it worked perfectly, unfortunately I do not have a set of recovery discs before upgradeing from Vista to 7 (stupid I know!).

I bought the components to upgrade my PC and want to reinstall windows, but cannot without Windows Vista Home Premium disc, and I can't find anywhere to download them, or find someone willing to let me copy their discs (I only need a copy discs, I have my own serial number).

True to form, I also forgot to make disks of backup to my laptop before it got a virus (edition windows Home premium), feeling very stupid.

If anyone knows where I can get copies of these discs, it would releive a lot of stress.

That you have a legable Vista product key, then use these installation files to make a .iso and then bootable DVD/USB as shown here:

    http://en.community.Dell.com/support-forums/software-OS/w/microsoft_os/Microsoft-Windows-and-Microsoft-Office-downloads.aspx

This will install Windows Vista with the activation of the phone. Note using your Windows 7 update product key directly with the good Windows 7 .iso file directly should work and you should not need to install Vista. You can, or perhaps not to activate by phone.

  • Need to reinstall Vista OEM laptop computer, but does not have install media

I already have the serial number of my windows that was on my laptop and now I need to install it on the same laptop. but I don't have the windows CD. So, I have to download it. but I can't find any valid and functional link to be on microsoft or any other Web site. is there anywhere to download?

    * original title - where can I download a windows vista Enterprise edition? *

    Hello

There is no available free and legal Vista download

Here are the different ways to reinstall vista:

Contact the manufacturer of the laptop computer and ask them to send you to vista recovery disks to reinstall the operating system back as it was when you bought it

they do it for a nominal cost of $

also ask them if you have a recovery partition on your hard drive to get back to the way you bought

you would normally press F10 or F11 or Alt + F10, 0 at startup to start the recovery process according to the manufacturer

Ask them of the exact key sequence

or borrow a microsoft dvd vista

Make sure that you borrow the correct 32-bit or 64-bit microsoft dvd to your computer

they contain all versions of vista

This is the product key that determines which version of vista is installed

Save all data, because it will be lost, do the above

  • Don't install windows vista no disk but have product key sticker

Interesting problem? I have a laptop Acer Aspire 7720 G, which had Vista Home basic installed on the purchase, without discs provided but sticker windows product code based on the laptop. I just bought and installed windows 7 Home premium which seem to instal fine, but now my graphics card is not recognized (nvidia geforce). all I get is poor graphic vga? I tried to update the drivers from windows update and nvidia, no sucsess. 'Systems' I can't even see my graphics card, it seems I just graphics vga integrated, not good on a computer with blu-ray/dvd player and power dvd installed, nothing will work out of a bad quality dvd movie.

How to get Vista recovery Media or the Vista recovery Partition on your computer back to factory settings.

There is no Vista free download legal available.

Contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send a recovery disk/s Vista set.

Normally, they do this for a cost of $ small.

In addition, ask them if you have a recovery Partition on your computer/laptop to restore it to factory settings.

See if a manual provided with the computer or go to the manufacturer's website, email or you can call for information on how to make a recovery.

Normally, you have to press F10 or F11 at startup to start the recovery process...

Another way I've seen on some models is press F8 and go to a list of startup options, and launch a recovery of standards of plant with it, by selecting the repair option.

Ask them if you can also make recovery disk/s for the recovery Partition in case of a system Crash or hard drive failure.

They will tell you how to do this.

Every computer manufacturer has their own way of making recovery disk/s.

Or borrow a good Microsoft Vista DVD (not Dell, HP, etc).
A good Vista DVD contains all versions of Vista.
The product key determines which version of Vista is installed.

There are 2 disks of Vista: one for 32-bit operating system, and one for 64-bit operating system.

If install a cleaning is required with a good DVD of Vista (not HP, Dell recovery disks):

Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu

  • Sticker license Vista missing - have product key, but NO version

    Hi all

I am currently working on a laptop that originally shipped with Windows Vista. The original hard drive failed and the system is unable to boot from it.

I have a replacement for the system HARD drive, but the license sticker to Windows Vista on the bottom of the laptop disappeared, and although I can read the product key, I can't tell which version of Windows Vista this appies to (for example, 'Basic', 'Home premium' etc.).

I tried the site of the manufacturer without success and is not any support for system recovery. I have Windows Vista OEM discs, but I'm not sure who the product key to apply to. is there a way to tell? This information can be found by browsing the files on the original defective HDD?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Call the manufacture, they should have a record of your purchase. Once you are able to identity what version of Vista you have to find a friend with a 'Detail' of Vista installation DVD and use it to install (you choose the version of Vista you have ordered) Vista using your product key.

  • Error invalid after reinstalling windows xp product key

Re-install Windows xp on the new drive

my computer compaq laptop has window xp inside and the hard drive is failed.   I have an original cd of window xp; but when to enter the product key, it is not valid.

How to re-install Windows xp on my laptop with the new hard drive?

    Thank you

    Bonzai

What kind of CD you used?
Was it a restore CD provided by the manufacturer or a retail XP CD?

Is the key that you are using a sticker on the computer or the one included with a purchase XP?

If you use the key of a sticker on the computer, you need to be sure to use an OEM provided the CD to reinstall.
The key to the sticker on a computer that says "OEM" will not be able to activate on a Setup from a retail CD.

Make sure you use the key for the media you used (key OEM and OEM media, etc.).
Make sure that the key is the same version that you are trying to install (button Home, multimedia, etc.).
Make sure that you type the key correctly.

  • Windows 7 copy authentic no - need to buy the new product key

I was given a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate, who worked for a while. Now, he said that the product key is not authentic.

I know that I have to buy a new product key, but could I buy a version upgrade, or do I need the full version of rebuy? I also would be able to simply enter the product key for it, or I have to reinstall Windows 7?

I also have a copy of Microsoft Office 2007, which has been installed on the maximum number of computers. Then I must also buy another version of 2007 or he'll be fine once I have Windows 7 rebuy?

Where did you get your license of Windows 7?

Have you tried to restart by phone?

    Activate Windows 7 manually:
    1. click on start and in the search for box type: slui.exe 4

    2. press enter on your keyboard

    3. Select your country.
    4. Select the telephone activation option and brace yourself for a real person.

To install a Windows 8 upgrade version, you must already have Windows 7, Windows Vista, or Windows XP installed on your PC.

If you have formatted the drive until the upgrade of Windows 8 version has been installed, you will not be able to use your upgrade product key to activate Windows 8. To activate Windows 8, you will need to install your previous version of Windows, and then reinstall Windows 8. Help with the activation process, contact technical support.

I would also use the Windows 8 media tool to download the installation files updated for Windows 8.1 with update 1 already integrated from the following link and use it to reinstall:
