    Hello

Thank you for using the Microsoft Windows Vista Forums.

If you have a wheel mouse, Windows Vista default scroll 3 lines in a document, Web page, etc., at a time when you scroll the wheel upwards or downwards.

Send instructions on changing the properties of the mouse. Under "Vertical scroll", choose whether or not to scroll a few lines at a time or a full page at a time. It is best to scroll one full page at a time, if you work with very large documents.

If you scroll through a number of lines at a time, check the box under "The number following lines both" to change this behavior. 1 line is slow scrolling; 100 is the fastest.

You must change the mouse settings by following the instructions below that will help you solve the problem.

To change the mouse wheel works

    1. open the mouse by clicking the Start button, click on the Control Panel, clicking hardware, and then clicking on the mouse.
    2. click the wheel tab and then do one of the following:

    • To set the number of lines that the screen will scroll for each notch of mouse wheel movement, click on the next lines in both number and then enter the number of rows you want to display in the box.
    • To scroll an entire screen of text for each click of the mouse wheel, click one screen at a time.
    • If your mouse has a wheel that supports horizontal scrolling, in the tilt the wheel to scroll the number of characters in a time zone, enter the number of characters you want to scroll horizontally when you tilt it flying to the left or to the right.

Click on the link below for more information on changing the settings of the mouse.

  • I need help, turn off the internal mic

Please explain to me as I am 5. I have a headphone (with mic jack and Jack audio input type). Whenever I plug them in, however, the computer decides to use the internal microphone instead. Is it possible to switch off my internal microphone without turning off sound settings (given that my headset in would appear under micro)?

I'll try to look in the Device Manager to see if it does not show two microphones.  If so, you can disable one of them.  To get the Device Manager, click Start and right click on computer, then click Properties, then Device Manager.

    Good luck.

  • V.17 Firefox WXP and W7 turns off the "back" button, Reload button, Home button and bookmarks toolbar items - how do I get them back or return to V.16?

All the buttons worked fine until I updated Firefox to v.16 to v.17. Now, I can't get any of the buttons mentioned above in the toolbar to work more. Links inside an HTML page still work, but not the buttons above.

This BUG v.17 appeared on my platform PC WXP and W7, only after I updated Firefox to v.17. No other changes have been made that would cause this BUG on each PC.

If I can't fix this, then how can I rollback to v.16?

    Hi James:

Thanks for your reply. You confirm what I said in my last post, that the problem was incompatibility with FF TUL v.17. I just disabled and will wait for an update of compatibility by the developer, if you eventually come.

I still believe that there is too much FF updates - almost one a week, it would seem. They should be coordinated so that they go out less often when possible. In addition, all updates should include a functionality, like any decent software update.

Thank you once again you have your answer.

  • I need to turn off the Fn Keys L530

    Hello

I work for a school district and we have online tests. Of the requierments is that all the function keys are disabled. I have a solution to do, but are left empty-handed.

Does anyone know of a solution for my problem? I would have preferred a GPO if possible.

    Thank you

You'll probably have to write an autohotkey script to remove the link F1 to F12.

Brightness and volume probably cannot be disabled because they reached a level relatively low. Other shortcut keys can probably be rebound:

  • How can I turn off the monitor (e.g., "standby") via the command line at the push of a button (or any other shortcut need not additional software)?

    Hello

I don't like it when, after a break from work on my PC, the screen turns off as set up through "Power Options" in the control panel. That's why I put the relatively high threshold.
However, when I know that I will not need the computer for a while, I want to save energy and wish the mode "sleep" could be activated immediately. Turn off the screen is not an option, because it has a USB hub built-in - off completely would be to unplug any connected device. Usually, if the computer has always works and might need the resources connected.

Ideally, by pressing a button (or start a program or something), the screen would immediately go in mode 'sleep'.

On systems prior to Vista and 7, IIRC, running a command in the sense of:
    Rundll32.exe user32.dll, SendMessage (HWND_BROADCAST, WM_SYSCOMMAND, SC_MONITORPOWER, 2);
would do the trick. The dll should run the command to set the monitor to sleep. We could create a shortcut or even integrate the command in a batch file, but unfortunately it doesn't seem to work on Vista or 7.

Does anyone have an idea on how to do it on Windows 7?

I would strongly try to avoid having to install any additional software to help me. (There is quite a little all about, even free applications that promise to do exactly that, but I want to avoid them if possible.) "And I can't believe that this basic that could be done on XP cannot act more on 7!).

    Thank you for your help,
    NicApicella

    Hello

Sleep is one thing and switching Off the Display is quite another.

I found a way to turn off the screen in case you don't have a hardware switch or a keyboard shortcut as in my Dell Inspiron laptop (Windows 7).

Create a batch with the following script file:

    echo off

    C:\Windows\System32\powercfg.exe-changer - monitor-timeout-dc 1
    C:\Windows\System32\powercfg.exe-changer - monitor-timeout-ac 1

    START/min/Wait C:\Windows\System32\scrnsave.scr s

    C:\Windows\System32\powercfg.exe-changer - monitor-timeout-dc m1
    C:\Windows\System32\powercfg.exe-changer - monitor-timeout-ac m2

with the idle time to turn off your screen set in the Control Panel, replace m1 and m2.

Control Panel > Power Options > any 'Active' diet Plan > change Plan settings > disable the display setting (minutes).

    For example, in my computer laptop m1 = m2 = 30 and 10.

Now create a shortcut to the batch file and optionally assign a keyboard shortcut and an icon.

    Explanation of the script:

The first two commands sets the idle time Display Off for the minimum possible setting of 1 Minute for the AC and DC (battery) power. The third command put the system mode blank screen saver 'instantly' and / Wait for the screensaver to terminate application. After 1 minute of inactivity, the monitor turns off power completely.
The Saver screen/Wait is over by the event of the reactivation of a movement of the mouse button, the last two lines of code will come back the idle time-out settings of origin defined in the Panel view. This to ensure that after waking up, the display does not Turn off all 1 minute of inactivity expire.

  • When the Admin sign on the office comes to the top, but after that the computer does not respond when the user tries to do anything. There are actually turns off the computer with the power button.

    Original title: user profile

My administrator user profile does not work properly, but I have a user profile that has activated the parental control that worked well for about a year and yesterday when this user logs on the desktop comes up, but after that the computer does not respond when that user tries to do anything. There are actually turns off the computer with the power button.  I ran a virus scan and spyware scan in my user admin profile and he has not found anything.  I don't know what to check.

    Hello rhunter15,

There may be a program to interfere with Parental controls so that we can try a few things to see if we can determine the application or program that is causing problems.

First of all, we run System File Checker to see if you have a corrupt file system.

    • Click Start
    • Click on all programs
    • Click Accessories, and then right-click on the command prompt.
    • Select the Security tab and choose "Run as Administrator"
    • Click on command prompt
    • Type SFC/scannow.

It will scan and repair any damaged operating system files.

To determine if there is a program because of a conflict, we recommend that you perform a "clean boot" of the computer. A clean boot is designed to disable programs and services in the background as much as possible. This helps determine which service or program can be the cause of the problem.  For more information about how to perform a clean boot for troubleshooting, click the number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base.

KB 929135 - how to solve a problem of performaing a clean boot in Windows Vista.
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135

Once you have finished the clean boot, check again and see if you get the error of parental control.

If please post again and let us know if that helped pinpoint the problem or if you still need help.

  • HP Pavilion Notebook 15-p045tx: wireless capability is turned off, the Wi - Fi button on / off Greyed Out

    Hello

I was faced with this problem for a lot of time.

The Network Diagnostics, it gives this error:

    WiFi is disabled

I don't have any hardware button that can wifi device off / turn on my keyboard, see the example image below:

I never turned off the device physics wifi directly or from the BIOS.

Tried the "f12" also, airplane Mode which also did not help.

in any case, I tried on things until now, nothing helps:

    (1) reset BIOS HP using HP Usb Disk

    2) update drivers wireless Broadcom using HP Support Assistant

    (3) re - install the Broadcom drivers

    (4) install the Realtek drivers

    (5) Restroing 8.1 full disk recovery Windows.

    (6) installed Linux (Ubuntu/Fedora), but that also free WiFi does not appear.

Please guide me what can be the possible cause of this problem.

The issue seems to be with my wifi chip.

Eventualy I had to take the laptop to the Service Center. The guy tried everything I did once again.

Finally, the issue is resolved, he plugged into the smart wifi, cleaned both ends, a little with the help of an eraser and reinserted and voila, it has detected. He said it could be the issue of carbon deposited on the ends of the chip connection.

Since then, I've encountered same question several times, and everything I do is open my laptop, plug out a smart WiFi card mother, clean up a bit and plug it again.

And he started working like a charm.

Maybe it is loose or I don't know what the exact problem is.

But he still has a problem with the antenna, I get very low my wifi signal, even if I'm in the right range of wifi router.

    Hello

The tone of the lighting buttons you can disable in the BIOS (the BIOS setup > advanced > System Setup). There is an option called beep sound.

In General, you can also disable all buttons light in the BIOS, after that you will not see these shortcut keys more but only turn off the icons is not possible.
