Need to update/import my favorites/bookmarks from old G4 on my G5
Monitor to leave the old G4 running Firefox 3.6.23, then (as no picture the screen) using Firewire to mount the G4 HD on my G5 running Firefox 7.0.1
Need to update my Favorites/Bookmarks onto the G5(which as laptop didn't use so much) On the Firewire G4 'Disk' opened Firefox -> 'Bookmarks' -> 'Organize Bookmarks', & in Library Window -> 'Import & Backup' 'wheel' -> Manual Backup -> filename j.son saved to Desktop of G5. 'Force Quit' the old Firefox, & opened the 7.0.1 -> Bookmarks -> 'Show All' --& in Library clicked on Import & Backup 'wheel' -> select 'Restore' -- Choose file x Manual, select the 'filename j.son' file on the Desktop(supp. a 'backup' of my G4 Fav.s/Bookmarks) -> 'Open'. This promotes a 'drop-down' that says that 'all of your prev. bookmarks will be replaced'. Click 'ok' -- nothing happens, nothing is replaced Tried several times from scratch -- no change. No Bookmarks imported. What to do?
Hi rb - thank you very much for taking the time to come back to me!
Am not sure if what you found is different from what was initially on the Firefox search re. Bookmarks -- which didn't work, but at did manage to get them transferred to my G5, am going to mark it 'solved' so as not to take up more folks time. Do thank you for your help! Much best -- cstirnckwr

I need keystrokes to import and export bookmarks
I'm blind and use programs output speech to run my windows 8.1 machine and of course impossible to use a traditional mouse. I arrow and tab through each accessible section of the menu of bookmarks, but also with key applications and could find no way that focuses on the key to the achievement of each task. I also tried her curse and swear!
Hi Eggman,
This seems incredibly frustrating. The following worked for me:
1. launch Firefox and press Tab six times to access the bookmarks menu. Press ENTER.
2. press Alt then arrow up once, and then the right arrow twice to reach the menu import and backup of bookmarks.
Once you are in the menu import and backup, it's just a matter of selecting the desired option (import bookmarks HTML, export bookmarks in HTML format, or to import bookmarks from another browser).
I hope that this will take you quite far as your program of speech output can guide you the rest of the way.

Can I import my Firefox bookmarks from an automatic backup to a new MacBook Pro computer?
I backed up my MacBook Pro 11 OS X Lion with Time Machine system and then got a new MacBook Pro 13 OS X Mountain Lion system. I can't use Time Machine to restore my system. I was able to drag and drop my files, but I forgot to backup my Firefox bookmarks HTML. Are automatic backups .json accessible Firefox for me on my external drive for Time Machine? Can I find one of these backups and restore it on my new laptop? I did not all new bookmarks, crushing would not be a problem.
Have you already found the Firefox profile folder in this Time Machine backup?
- < User > /users//Library/Application Support / Firefox/Profiles/< profile >.
In Mac OS X v10.7 and later versions, the file $HOME/Library is a hidden folder.

I accidentally replaced my backup with current bookmarks while trying to import from it. The original bookmarks were not present to Bookmark Backup in the profiles, so I used Recuva for recovering. Now, Firefox gives the "unable to process backup file" thingy.
System Restore didn't help either.
I managed to recover intact bookmarked using Recuva, deep search in the Profiles folder.

Find and import bookmarks from old version of FF to the last FF
Hey, guys. Just built a new computer and the old HARD disk for data drives are installed. Computer now running off SSD drives, Win7 and reinstalled apps. Installed the last FF (11) and realized how much my missing favorites are. I think the old version was 3. ???. But by using the suggestions here, http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Recovering%20important%20data%20from%20an%20old%20profile just do not seem relevant in my case or I simply don't get it. There is no file "places.sqlite" for example is on my old 'C' drive, which is the place where the old FF operated since. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
All the best, Don
What you have to do is find the APPDATA folder on your old hard drive. This is usually a hidden folder. If you read your backup information, it will tell you where this folder is usually. Don't forget that need you to do this on your old drive (which if you plugged it into your new PC is probably not labeled C).
Then, when you find this file, just drill down to your profile and you should have all of the files that are discussed in the recovery of data from an old profile. Then copy it into your new profile!

How can I move bookmarks from old laptop XP to new Windows 7 one?
My new laptop (still awaiting delivery) will have Windows 7 Home premium 64-bit. I read on this site that it's OK to use Firefox, even though it is designed for 32-bit, but I don't know how to transfer my favorites.
I took a glance at the sync add-on. Unfortunately, this has been deleted by its developer.
Anyone know how I can transfer the bookmarks on the new laptop?
Thank you.

I want to stay because the old pc still works
Yes, if you use the HTML export format or the more comprehensive backup JSON format and copy the file to the new PC, the two are completely independent. However, if you have set up the synchronization, then the two will be linked and often changes over to another (for better or for worse!).

Problems copying bookmarks from old Hard Drive to new hard drive
The motherboard on my old Windows Vista 64 - bit is dead. The hard drive is still accessible. I bought a new PC with Windows 7 and installed Firefox. I find the.default file for Firefox on the old drive hard and copied and pasted in my new profile on my new hard drive. The old hard drive is connected to my new PC with an external hard drive enclosure. I tried looking for in my old profile user Firefox hard disk of old. I do this by clicking on my old username, go to Program Files (x 86) and only one program file that I found for DNA. Firefox has been installed on my old PC, so I'm surprised that I can't find what it listed under Program Files (x 86) on this drive. If I search the old drive for 'signet', it evokes my bookmarksbackup and other files of bookmarks '.json '. I tired bookmarksbackup copy for my new Firefox profile on the new hard drive and it seems to work, but the old bookmarks do not appear when I open Firefox. I looked at the links troubleshooting for the same problem that others have posted, but they seem irrelevant, because I can't find the sqlite or the directory where my old Firefox settings are stored on my old hard drive. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
Firefox settings are not stored in program files, but they are stored under APPDATA.
If you take the newer JSON file you have, open Firefox, press Control, Shift and B at the same time, then go to "Import and backup" then 'restore', then choose file, you can import it like this?

Favorite transfer from one laptop to another laptop Vista to Windows 7
Bought a new laptop which uses Windows 7. I would like to transfer bookmarks from old laptop which uses Vista for the new laptop computer
On the Vista PC, open Firefox and click on bookmarks (Alt + B) > show all bookmarks and in the upper left corner of the new window, click on import and backup > export bookmarks as HTML.... Then, on the new laptop, you have to go through the same steps as above except the last step where it must choose import bookmarks in HTML... and find the saved file previously.

Basically, the Bookmarks imported for IE8 is displayed correctly under 'Bookmarks', but when I activated the personal bar, the button has been added, but says "blank"... I did the whole process 3 times; same result... Need help!
You may need to manually move the bookmarks in the bookmarks toolbar folder if this folder is currently empty and you have IE Favorites folder "From the Internet Explorer" in the Menu folder bookmarks.
