recently my computer sony laptop hard drive broke, so I change the new one and then install oem Windows Vista HomePremuim but after I can not active there. My oem key comes from the sony laptop.  He says "the product key you entered dose does not seem to be a valid windows vata" product key.    now, I can only 30 days trial. only 28 days left. need help please.

How did you install Vista?  If you have used a dvd recovery then it shouldn't require the entry of a product key.  If you are being invited to activate it, you can activate using the 25 character product key printed on the label at the bottom of the laptop or, in models later in the battery compartment.  Make sure that you do not enter a B for an 8, etc.  I suggest to use a magnifying glass and a bright light to make sure that you read the characters correctly.

If it's a standard dvd of Windows, where did find the product key?  If it's a retail dvd, you must use one on the label on the dvd case.

  • Windows 8.1 OEM key and new motherboard

My laptop was broken so it's under waarranty and they changed the motherboard and now I want to activate my windows 8.1 upgrade to 10 but I n t have the oem key, and that key is not in the bios becaut now, I have a new motherboard.

How can I activate my windows again?

    Hello

Sorry to hear that Atrium... obviously service agents forgot to update the Windows key after the replacement of the motherboard.
As far as I know the key OEM activation process must be done before performing the recovery process...

What shall I say I see no other way to communicate with the service in order to solve this problem... once more talk to the guy and I'm sure they know what to do

  • Z240: Need Windows 7 activation product key

I am running Linux on a workstation Z240. I want to use the Windows supplied with this workstation license to run Windows 7 on a virtual machine inside my host Linux OS. I have over the content of the original hard drive. Unlike a laptop, it doesn't seem to be a sticker indicating the product key of Windows that I need for activation. I read there may be a digital product key in the BIOS, but I searched the menus without finding.

I wrote what I thought, it was the Windows product key before you erase the hard drive, but it turns out be the ID of the product instead.

    Any ideas?

I'll answer my own question. It seems that with Windows 7, it can be done. Even if I take an activated Windows disk image and run it on a virtual machine, Windows 7 recognizes that the hardware has changed and that it is a non-active state.

I also tried to save the key product for the BIOS and restore it on the copy of the VM, but activation does not always work.

  • I need windows 8.1 product key for my Satellite C50-A483

    Hello

I am trying to upgrade my windows 8.1 to win 10 (Toshiba Satellite C50-A483) and when I contact Microsoft they asked me about product key for my victory 8.1. I can't find.

It s from integrated in my laptop from the factory.
Where can I get the product key for my windows?
I have another laptop (computer hp laptop)
The product key is labeled in the back of my laptop

For the original version of OS that you got with your laptop, you don't need key product for activation. Whenever you install original recovery image Windows is automatically activated.

In the past product key label was placed on the bottom of the laptop. New model do not have it.
Unfortunately you can not do more. Valid product key is part of the original image recovery only and cannot be used for any other activation.

What is curious, if you notice at the beginning of the report's true State.

In any case, go to the start menu and type slui 4. Make sure you do it on an administrator account.

In the dialog box that opens, select your location and call the Microsoft Product Activation Center. Follow the instructions that the automated phone system gives you and then try to activate it.

  • 10 Windows and BIOS OEM different keys product key

Recently, I upgraded my Lenovo Windows Windows 8.1 10 PC. For Windows PC 8.1 windows OS product key is embedded in the BIOS. After the upgrade the OS of Windows 10 of Windows 8.1, I compared the product key Windows 10 and BIOS OEM key and what I have discovered, is that the two are different. I expect that the two keys will be the same. Can someone tell me why the keys are different? What kind of question? Contact Microsoft for the same thing?

They must be different. You have upgraded a system 8.1 Windows system Windows 10. As part of this process, a new key for Windows 10 is generated and assigned to your system. This is as expected and by design. No need to contact Microsoft.

  • The product key from a portable computer that is running Windows XP does work on any other version of Windows XP? (OEM or retail, etc.)

original title: Windows XP Pro product keys

Different versions of Windows X is made?

That is to say) the product key from your laptop will work with "ANY" XP CD (OEM or other)

I know that with Win 7 there no difference

My wife has an XP laptop that needs a reconstruction (it is sloooow) and the original recovery CD corrupted - will be a work of standard CD - with its original product key?

I don't want to go there and try - for fear that once the installation started - the hard drive will be formatted and it won't come back!

    Very!

Each version of XP had its own drive and discs were also different between OEM and retail channels.

Some manufacturers also BIOS-locked their discs so that they could not even start running on computers other than their own.

  • Microsoft Windows Vista Business OEM product key issue

I have a Windows Vista Business OEM product key but no CD. Is it possible to download the Image? Or I can upload the image of windows 7 or XP and install (enter the product key: Vista) free?

It's not Microsoft, and we have nothing to do with your downgrade rights.

    Read these information from Microsoft:

You can also borrow and use a Microsoft Vista DVD, which contains the files for the different editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) must be installed. The product key on your computer / Laptop box determines what Edition is installed.

Other manufacturers recovery DVDs are should not be used for this purpose.

HELP, I recently changed my motherboard in my dell 490 accuracy now my windows activation is indicating that I need to activate my product key. I have been using this product key for now.need some time to get this problem is resolved.

    Hello

You cannot change your motherboard without the approval and assistance from Dell

    read this:

If you have a license to OEM preinstalled, DELL, HP, etc any update at the Board level or changes must be done jointly with the computer manufacturer

an OEM license is linked to the original tho hardware it is installed on this computer life

When the computer dies the license dies with him, unless the manufacturer is willing to help you

If you did this Dell wihtout support and approval, you have cancelled your vista license

Windows 7 Starter is not available for free. If it is preinstalled on your computer, look for the COA sticker, which is normally available in the lower part of the Netbook/laptop or in the battery compartment.

If you can't find your product key, you will need to buy a new one.

  • How to get windows using my oem product key

    Hello

I got windows 7 preinstalled on my computer, I formatted it

I need windows disk via my oem product key please tell me how

    Hello

The only legal Windows 7 download available is now Microsoft, as Microsoft has stopped DigitalRiver Windows 7 ISO downloads.

    http://www.Microsoft.com/en-us/software-recovery

But Microsoft only provides these downloads for Windows 7 retail product key, not preinstalled OEM product keys (Dell, HP, etc.).

As you have licensed preinstalled OEM (Dell, HP, etc.), contact the manufacturer of your computer to order recovery media that they need to provide for a small fee, if it is still available.

Or you can also borrow the same exact retail edition DVD of Windows 7 and use your product key to reinstall.

    See you soon.

  • Pre-installed Windows 7 Home Premium - OEM keys - retail keys - COA label underside of the laptop... MESS!

In 2011, I bought a laptop MSI CX 640. Windows 7 Home Edition Premium has come with it preinstalled. With that I think I buy a license for the operating system and the right to use and reinstall it if I need it.

Over the past four years this handyman crossed a lot of Setup on the laptop, including Linux, Windows 8 and 8.1 and Windows 10 technical overview etc.

Fast forward to today and I learned from Microsoft's offer of a free copy of Windows 10 for owners of authentic versions of Windows 7. So, what I have to do is return to the original genuine Windows 7 Home Premium I own and I will be able to reserve my copy of Windows 10 right?

Not so fast, accomplishment that could not and certainly turned out not to be so simple at all.

I had several long phone calls with Microsoft, who finally dumped the hot potato between the hands of MSI.

MSI I have to say has been useful at the beginning, they sent me for free and quickly 2 recovery disks I needed that SHOULD have helped also go back to square one, just like I wanted.

Should, but actually didn't. Recovery fails with an error that seems to imply that the process is looking for a nonexistent disk 3. MSI is perplexed, all that they have these discs and the simple instructions they send with them. In addition, they are totally in the dark and "will not go dark.

However, one representative suggested that if I could get my hands on a copy of the operating system OEM I certainly would be able to install and use the key I have on my laptop MSI low COST label to activate it. His logic I think, so I'm going to work on this. Another detail, I have to mention is that tht key on the COA label is kind of door as they are all are sitting unprotected Abdel low. But I can take a photo in high resolution and with little digital magic improve to a point where I hope I can read almost all of it and try to guess the characters who are still in question.

Or so I thought that, actually, he does not leave 2 possibilities.

I'm guessing either not right (possible but not likely in my opinion, after all the tests I had) or is NOT an OEM key or if it was has now been cancelled.

Now I'm guessing is NOT a key to the retail, who tried with a copy to the details of the operating system.

So where this leave poor me, owner of a license of Windows 7 Edition Family Premium authentic apparently, I can't use.

I hope that one of you readers can help understand me this and I hope my work and tribulations (I'm a very determined guy) can also help some of you in this if you are also in my shoes.

One final note of common sense me:

If I buy a product, whether it is OEM, sale retail or gift from God, I would get with it all licenses, numbers, keys, permissions, instructions, ten commandments necessary to have access to this product at any time and without hassle.

Which seem to apply to most of our purchases isn't?

NOT THIS ONE OF COURSE!   MICROSOFT?

Why not reinstall Windows 8.1 or just enjoy the opportunity for Windows 10 preview to the free final version.

I'll be able to upgrade the Windows 10 insider preview to the final version?

Yes, you will be able to switch the preview of Windows Insider to the RTM version for free.

Company officials noted that if you join the program initiated Windows you get the free upgrade to the final version.

    Last confirmation:

When asked if there would be a date for the deadline insiders before 10 reaches RTM Windows, Gabriel Aul of Microsoft says preview builds will continue to come up to the final version.

"We expect to keep overview to insiders builds all the way up to the RTM." More details to come, but no cuts planned. »

    https://Twitter.com/GabeAul/status/592917514503507968

After the upgrade, you can switch to the Stable channel.

Otherwise, your best option is to get Windows 7 Home Premium retail media and use COA key to reinstall and reactivate. To learn more:

How to: What are my options for Windows 7 reinstall media?

  • Windows 7 will not activate with the OEM key, after the failure of HARD drive.

    Hello

I was recently asked to repair my brother DELL laptop.  The HARD drive failed and the system unusable.  I replaced the HARD drive and installed Windows 7 Home Premium x 64 (earlier version of windows) from my own installation media.  The recovery partition had survived the failure of HARD drive, I would have just cloned that and used, but this was not an option in this case.

The problem that I am experiencing, is that windows don't will not activate, saying that the key is not valid.  I was told that installing Windows 7 media would work with a retail or an OEM key, but that doesn't seem to be the case.  The key OEM I use, is from the computer it came from originally, and the only material change is the new HARD disk.

I try to avoid ordering an OEM Dell installation CD, as which costs money (I already have my own installation CD) and takes time (why do they have them available for download?).

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

you use an OEM SLP key that only works with the manufacturers recovery media.

change the product key to that on computers of COA
Click Start, type slui3, press ENTER.

    Additional information:

Computers, which are built by large manufacturers provided with pre-installed Windows are supplied with 2 two product keys:

OEM SLP: This key comes pre-installed in Windows, when it comes to the factory. This key is designed to work with the special instructions isn't on the hardware of this manufacturer. Then, when Windows was installed using the OEM SLP (in factory) Windows 7 key leans on the motherboard and he sees special instructions and activates. (that's why you had no need to turn on your computer after you brought it home)

COA SLP: it's the product key that you see on the sticker on the side (or at the bottom, [or in the battery compartment]) of your computer. It is a valid product key, but must be used only in certain situations (for example, if the OEM SLP key stops automatic activation for a reason any). The key must be activated by phone. (Note: all manufacturers that use the SLP OEM system are bound by contract to include a certificate of Authenticity sticker (COA), which has a COA SLP key, on the computer)
