Nested ESXI 5.1 in Workstation 5.5 9/10 - constantly losing the connection

Hi all

I am trying to build my using ESXI VMware Lab nested in VMware workstation. My hardware configuration is:

CPU-Xeon E5 - 1620 v3, 7 GHz

Motherboard: Asus P9X79

First HARD - SSD 128 GB David M5S drive

Second HDD - Segate 3.5 "2 TB ST2000DM001

RAM-2x8GB Kingston HyperX 1600 MHz DDR3 Non - ECC CL10

I installed Windows 7 x 64 SP1 and Windows 8.1x64. On both systems is the same. Workstation works fine for 10-15 minutes. After this date, all (vSphere, SSH for hosted OS) connections are closed. I installed a Linux CentOS 6.5, 5.1 ESXI and ESXI 5.5. Linux CentOS 6.5 are inside of ESXI. All connections are bridged.

Then when I reconnect by vSphere or SSH connection, everything works well for the next 10 to 15 minutes.

Below you can see the Logs of Windows (sorry, but I have the Polish version of Windows) and VMware Workstation logs (in this version of the example 9.0.3 1410761) of c:\ProgramData\VMware\hostd\hostd-12.log.

I enclose also a few screenshots.

I would like more information, please ask me.

Any idea what can cause this problem?

Hello

I found what caused this problem. In my lab environment, I have the WRT54G-TM with DD - WRT router onboard. It has been configured in Client Bridge mode. He has some problem with mains supply. I disconnected the router from my computer and plugged directly on the wireless NIC card. He helped with the interruption of network problems, but there were a lot of issues with routing etc. I bought new router TP-Link TL-WR740n v4.27 and connect as a client mode on my primary wireless router. After that everything works fine.

Once again thank you for trying to help.

I hope this helps someone simillar questions.

Thank you!

ESXi does not support on your processor hardware-assisted virtualization.  If your processor is AMD - V, there was a design flaw with the first generation of AMD - V parts that we have chosen to not to bypass.  You will not be able to run virtual machines nested on this material.

ESXi 5.0 supports AMD - V only on later processors and family 10H.

  • Nested ESXi 5.0 Workstation 9 Networking question

I use standalone desktop with 16 GB memory with windows 7 and installed workstation 9.  I created my configuration of base, DC, ESXi-host1, host2 ESXI, ESXI-host3 and host4 ESXI.  I also installed vcenter as a virtual machine within the workstation and I can access all the hosts and vm (DC, vcenter) by name and IP.  Also DC and vcenter, I can connect to internet using vnet0 (workstation).  My management is vnet3 and my storage is vnet4.  I created a new virtual machine called vcenter in ESXi-host1.  I then installed vcenter server and vsphere client.  Everything works well.  I went to install web client and adobe flash player, to internet access.  For switch 0 I vmnic0 active and vmnic1 in mode standby.  The ports VM group vm network which has vcenter vm and vmkernel port with network management.  I went into properties and accepting promiscuous mode network times vswitch and vm.  I can not even access the internet.  This is where I don't know what to do then.  Suggestions?  If you are in need of more data, let me know and I'll give it to you.

Given that I have not found it necessary to connect to the external network, I have not deployed router. To test, I have now deployed a virtual router to connect external network and my VM on nested ESXi can connect to the external network and was able to ping the DC VC etc...

    (1) deploy a Virtual Router download by http://freesco.sourceforge.net/

    (2) connect two network to the router as a display in the snap-in and configure the router

    (3) configure the default gateway of all VM (that is to say DC VC and ESXi host) to use the IP of the router.

    (4) Finally the VM on nested ESXi can connect external network and ping to other virtual machines too.

  • Networking question in VMware Workstation / nested ESXi network configuration problem

    Hi guys,.

I am trying to set up a virtual lab, I setup a domain, a vcenter server and up to 1 ESXi host controller.

I am really struggling with the network aspect in establishing a vmnic for storing shared, please see the attached screenshots and a few questions:

    1. Is a vmnic a real network map? or vmnic correspond to "network adapters" that you put in place since the setting of your virtual machine?

I followed a tutorial and implement 3 NICs on the ESXi host, in Bridge mode, I tried this in my configuration of vmworkstation and I lose the connection to my server vcenter to the ESXi host.

See screenshot attached to how I configured my ESXi host, screenshot is called 'screenshot2esxihost network', I run got each of the maps defined on NAT network.

    screenshot2esxihost network.JPG

See also the screenshot of how I have my configuration of network settings in my VMWare Workstation, screenshot is called "screenshot1. the tutorial does not show how it has its editor of the virtual network configuration, but it puts its ESXi host NICs in BRIDGED mode, and I'm guessing that you can set this time within the virtual network adapter. If someone could tell me what changes should I make in there and on the network cards in my ESXi host, which would be really useful.

    screenshot1.JPG

My domain controller, server ESXi hosts and vcenter are currently on the 192.168.86 range, which currently stood at NAT

See also a screenshot from the vsphere client - I don't see a vmnic "vmnic0", my goal is to be able to add a "vmnic2" for a separate storage network.

screenshot3 unable to add anymore vmnics.JPG

any help would be received with gratitude, I VCP510 review at the end of the month and really hope to be able to get my lab setup as soon as possible.

The vmnic is the rising 'physical' of an ESXi host. So with the 3 network cards that you configured for the host in VMware Workstation you will see under "Network adapters" and you can use them to vSwitches in the section "network".

    Hello

I have an ESXi 5.5 installed on a physical machine (CPU: Intel i7 - 4770 s, 32 GB of RAM), where I have 2 nested ESXi servers. Each of them (physical + nested) execute the last ESXi 5.5 1881737 and time at time, the accidents of the ESXi nested with [msg.log.error.unrecoverable] fatal error VMware ESX: (vcpu-0) 2014-06 - 21 T 20: 03:51.580Z | vCPU-0 | I120 + vcpu-bad configuration 3:EPT:

I have not tried the other 2 options again, may one of them be the answer to get rid of this?

I know it is not taken in charge, but maybe someone has an idea on how to solve this problem... Found this KB VMware: virtual machines stop abruptly with a similar error to: MONITOR PANIC: vcpu - bad 0:EPT configuration... , but this is not applicable .

  • Nested ESXi 5.5 lab for the SRM demo with iSCSI

    Hi all

I was wondering if it is possible to install ESXi in ESXi 5.5 5.5 make recovery of the Server Tier - 1 Microsoft with Site Recovery manager?

So level 1 server applications are: Exchange Server, SQL Server, SharePoint Server and AD DC servers with 5 x test Win 7 desktop.

The external data store to the VMFS will take place by iSCSI NAS connected to the physical server.

Any suggestion and input would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

One thing you'll want to do is to make sure that use you VSphere switches distributed on your cluster nested to ESXi hosts so that you can use the network i/o control (NIOC). For me, I put iSCSI to high priority traffic and everything to normal priority.

With the help of the NIOC will allow your cluster nested in order to operate more fluidly than without it.

My SRM 5.x laboratory is fully nested - probably not supported in a production environment where supported VMware should however.

Here's a blog post of Ather Beg on its results by using the nested NIOC and ESXi hosts - it is the reduction of the spikes that Ather blog article shows that made work nested ESXi hosts networks so much better:

  • Nested ESXi 5.5 laboratory

I was pulling my hair out with this now. Trying to nest ESXi 5.5 within ESXi 5.1 on a HP DL380 G5, but I get the error: hardware virtualization is not enabled in the BIOS, when I try to install 5.5

    I already did:

    -Edited the file/etc/vmware/config for vhv.allow = 'true '.

-Updated the VM to support v9

-Changed the OS to ESXi 5.x (experimental)

-Tried to edit the virtual machine's .vmx file, putting in vmkernel5 instead of 64 others in the field of guestOS

None of this worked, always get the message about hardware virtualization is not enabled in the BIOS of the virtual machine. Anyone nestled ESXi 5.5 yet? If Yes, how did you you do and are there are instructions there. I tried following some blogs out there on the Internet, but nothing has worked.

In addition, the BIOS of the physical machine is up to this day and ESXi 5.0 (nested or otherwise) ran flawlessly on the G5.

    Help is appreciated. TIA!

If it were possible to use virtualized virtualization assisted by material on systems without EPT (Intel) or IVR (AMD) under ESX 5.0, this configuration was not taken in charge. EPT or IVR is now required for virtualization to support virtualized under ESXi 5.1 (and other VMware products that virtualized hardware-assisted virtualization support).

Unfortunately, your CPU does not support the EFA.

  • 5.1 nested ESXi

    Hello world

I am configuring a nested ESXi 5.1 training lab on my production 5.1 esxi environment.

The problem I have is that, once the installation disc starts, it does not detect the vmdk file in local storage.

I created the guest computer using the web client so that it is hardware version 9, added the vhv.allow = true for the comments and also permit EPT Intel VT - x on the client.

I thought that maybe it's because my local data store where I was hosting for the nested esx vmdk file was VMFS version 3 so I've updated that and it did not solve.

Am I missing a step somewhere? Any help would be appreciated.

    Karl

Maybe that's the problem with the controller. try and change the bus to the VMDK controller?

  • Unable to start x 64 VMs on nested ESXi host

    Hi gurus,

I would ask your expertise on the question with my ESXi nested 5.1 checking. I managed to install the nested ESXi host, but I can't start a x 64 VMs. I continue to ask me what follows:

    x64.PNG
    Intel Core i7-3770 CPU @ 3.40 GHz
    DH77EB
    EBH7710H.86A.0100.2013.0312.1351
Virtualization / VT - x is already enabled in the BIOS.
Turn off the Bit is also activated.
verified the host physical and NestedHVSupported set to TRUE
added vhv.enable = "true" on the physics of the host \etc\vmware\config
    created nested ESXi VM
original operating system is any other 64 bit
Once the virtual machine is created, I changed the OS to VMware ESXi 5.x (experimental)
NX/XD flag is already set to expose
    added - H - mask CPU; ECX
Adds the following on the nested ESXi vmx file:
    Monitor.virtual_mmu = "hardware".
    Monitor.virtual_exec = "hardware".
    VHV. Enable = "true".
    monitor_control.restrict_backdoor = 'true '.
    Thanks in advance!

According to the journal of the ESXi VM file, its configuration (.vmx) file does not contain the vhv.enable = "true" entry. Only the configuration file contains, that was how it should be done in ESXi 5.0, but not in ESXi 5.1.

Try to add the entry to the ESXi VM and make sure you reload the configuration (see http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1026043) before turn VM ESXi.

  • ESXi/ESX host disconnects vcenter Server 60 seconds after the connection

    Hello guys,.

I recently made some changes to my VMware Lab.

I'm under vCenter 5.1 with several hosts of ESXi 5.1.  My vCenter ran on one server ESXi 5.1 until I recently migrated there in a window of Windows 8 running VMware Workstation 9.   The vCenter is running normally and I am able to add hosts in stock, but they disconnect after approximately 60 to 90 seconds.  I believe that this issue is that the heart beats that are sent by the host do not reach the vCenter (port 902), I think that it is similar to the issue discussed in the following KB:http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 1029919

    Here are my questions:

    1. the article describes download wireshark and run scripts.  Is there an easier away from do?  I'm literally just checking this single port of the ESXi host, there is no equivalent for telnet from an ESXi host?

2 VMware Workstation 9 block ports or run its own firewall any?  Since this vCenter worked perfectly when running on the host ESXi 5.1 we know this isn't a firewall on the virtual computer problem, I have also checked the Windows 8 machine running VMware workstation and have verified that the windows firewall is disabled.  Windows firewall is not the issue.

    Thank you

    Duncan.

Just a quick question. A fact change of IP address of the server vCenter with migration of VMware Workstation? Maybe http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1008030 is related to the question!

  • Windows 7 workstation loses the connection with the Server 2008 "

Server running Microsoft SBS 2008 Standard.  Second location is the use of Remote Desktop.  These workstations are very good.  Only the workstation in the same place loses the connection periodically.  Workstation can reconnect, but never know when it will drop.  The user has to go to the remote location to know that the work will not be interrupted.

This particular configuration has worked very well for a few months.  Long story short about 2 weeks after main tech (which has implemented) is deceased in August 2010, there was a major issue.  No one is really sure of what it is, but everything is back up and running just now lovely annoying drop except for this connection.

I'm scheduled to go on Tuesday.  This is a seasonal business and people we're patient but kind of necessity to deal with this finally.  I am pretty well convinced that this is not the Peachtree program causing the problem.  However, the error indicates that Peachtree is not installed on the server, and yet it is, obviously.  That is why we believe that the connection has been interrupted.

All this makes sense?  Someone knows the effects of any automatic updates of end of August 2010, which may have caused a situation like this?  I know that currently they don't dare to update Java or something does not work well.  Thought, that you may know of something that happened at that time that could cause this.

  • Nested no uid in result of server really not necessary to sort the results. What does that mean?

When I try to access my Inbox for outitgoes webmail, I get a message saying nested no uid in result of server really not necessary to sort the results. I can connect fine and records, sent access etc, but not my Inbox, what someone has any ideas how to solve this problem? Thank you.

If the webmail, it cannot not be IMAP.  Webmail, by definition, is accessible using a web browser like Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, Safari or Mozilla.  If you use a like WIndows Live Mail, Windows Mail, Thunderbird, Eudora mail client or another, then you will need to say that in your post, since how webmail and e-mail client/server operation are completely different.

Like you say, if you use outitgoes like webmail, any errors that you see on your mailbox should be past on the server.  Thus, this isn't a problem, you can send, since it does not go on your computer and is not an error in your browser.  This is a problem on the server itself.  You will need to contact the technical support of outitgoes.

References to an outitgoes SMTP server appear when you search for "outitgoes smtp.  This means that they offer client/server access to the letters.  If that's what you use, you must always contact outitgoes support because your email client tells you that it receives information from the mail server that it does not understand.  Outitgoes support should be able to help find the cause.
