Network adapters and VLAN (optional) shaded in DCUI

I'm studying for my VCP exam and I use a nested in workstation installation. Suddenly I don't have access to the network adapters in the DCUI. I've migrated the two network interface cards used for the management of a group of management vmkernel ports in a distributed switch.

Anyone know what is happening here? Google gave me this indication Configure networking Greyed in DCUI

But in my case, the hosts are always connected to vCenter and work fine no problems anywhere.

As you migrate your management VMkernel service VDS, all virtual switch tasks, including managament VMkernel configuration interfaces / VLAN must be done on vDS and not on ESXi.

  • Advice on how best to configure the network adapters and virtual switch in ESX host

I'm new to VMware and am its implementation.  I got my training a few weeks ago, and now I'm configing my hosts.  I have 3 guests, each have 2 network cards.  There is a virtual switch that ESX creates when it is installed (vSwtich0).  The books said that it is advisable to delete the VM network port of virtual machine that is assigned to the value group default virtual switch and put it on another virtual switch so that you keep your management network separated from the network of the vm for performance and security.  If I do this, all my virtual machines will have to go to 1 NIC b/c I only have 2 NICs per host.  I thought that I have just to keep all my groups of ports on the default vSwitch0 and add my second NETWORK adapter so that I can take advantage of the Association of NICs for redundancy and load balancing.  However, I'm not sure on the performance and the security risks.  Do you have any ideas or advice?  I could also create two virtual switches and put my virtual machines on one which would have a NETWORK card dedicated and put my service and Kernal VM console on another virtual switch with a dedicated network card.  However, in this scenario, I have no fault tolerance or load balancing.  We are a small shop and we have about 10-15 VMs on each host.  I don't have access to b/c distributed switching we paid only for the company (not more).  Thank you.

Hi and welcome to the forums,

With 10-15 VMs per box and I guess that I would seriously consider adding two extra cards for each host in the production machines. You could then do something like:

    vSwitch0 - vmnic0, vmnic2, vmnic3 - Console of Service, VM LAN network

    vSwitch1 - vmnic1 - VMkernel

That would give you redundancy and performance to access your hosts (SC) and also for all your virtual machines. The VMkernel would get a NETWORK card dedicated for vMotion and could be on a separate network. He didn't need redundancy really as if the NIC sank the only issue is that you cannot vmotion virtual machines. In this case you would just move one of the NIC workgroup through to those switches manually.

If you only have 2 network cards, then I would say having a vSwitch with two attached network adapters and VLAN the VMkernel may be off. I want absolutely to the redundancy of having two cards together.

    Hope this helps,

    Dan

  • Grouping of NETWORK adapters and NLB on ESXi 3.5

I want to get ESXi to load balance the traffic to my NFS storage, but have had no success. My test set up is the following:

    • Two blades each with two physical network adapters dedicated to the ESXi for NFS kernel ports

    • Two switches

    • A NETWORK adapter on each blade is connected to each switch - it isn't an Etherchannel or trunking configured

    • Two NFS devices on a different IP address

    • Eight virtual machines on each blade, four to connect to a data store on each device of NFS

    • ESXi NIC teaming across two network cards with the option "route based on the virtual origin of switch port code.

My understanding is that each virtual computer must use one of the network cards, but about half must use a physical NETWORK card and half the other. Instead, all the traffic of all eight VMs released a physical NIC if I disable the physical NIC, it moves the second NETWORK card without problem. Then they both work, but he never uses both at the same time. This behavior is consistent across the two blades.

Is throughbut limited to ~ 110 MB per blade and the storage system can easily exceed this.

I've attached a screenshot of a virtual switch in place.

    TIA,

    Will be

Virtual machines are access NFS data warehouses directly? If Yes, then yes it should work that way - however if you are using the NFS data store to host the VM files, including virtual disks and then traffic will turn off the vmkernel port and if have vmkernel unique port then what you are experiencing is expected - the vmkernel selects the outgoing NIC based on the virtual port id so if you have a single port vmkernel will suffice a single port as well as a NETWORK identifier unique will be used.

  • Detect a VM with 4 network adapters and same NetworkName

    Hi all

I'm writing a script that is all servers with 4 NICs and his 3rd and 4th adapter have the same NetworkName (VLAN).

I want to have output with:

    Name of the server

NetworkName (the name of the network that is the same on the 3rd and 4th network cards).

I wrote something, but I can't find so 3.4 NIC NetworkName is the same:

    $ArrayVMS4Nics = get - VM | Where {$_.} PowerState - eq "Receptor"} | Select Name, @{n = "NumNICs"; e = {(Get-NetworkAdapter-VM $_ |)} Measure - Object). County}} |? {$_. {NumNICs - eq 4} | Select the name of ExpandProperty-

    foreach ($vm to $ArrayVMS4Nics)

    {

    Get - VM $vm | Get-NetworkAdapter | Select NetworkName, Parent

    }

Thank you for any help or advice.

    EddieM

In your 'foreach' loop, you create a 2nd network cards.

    $myVmNetworkAdapters = Get-VM $vm | Get-NetworkAdapter | select NetworkName, Parent

And in theory, you could write an if statement. You have the option to define additional variables according to the index names in the table or simply specify the index in the if statement.

    If ($myVmNetworkAdapters[2].NetworkName = $myVmNetworkAdapters[3].NetworkName) {
Do something (not sure what you want to do here)
    }

Now, I didn't test the syntax, but I hope you get the idea.

  • Deployment of ISE in network routing and Vlan

    Hello world

New bee to ISE. I want to help/suggestions on how to deploy ise in my network or comment if my plan is working

Machines to ISE, Servers (ALL) and Corporate (Dot1x and field) in vlan 10

Comments should be in the vlan separate 20

By default that all switch ports must be in the vlan 30 having nothing but only to DHCP.

Each endpoint must come through vlan30 and then pushed to vlan respective IE 10 if corp (Dot1x) PC and comments vlan 20 if mab and do not appear in the endpoints.

    What is a successful deployment?

Secondly the fact inter - vlan routing is required in this scenario for the endpoints to be controlled properly.

ISE are able to communicate and of endpoints that are not in the VLAN of the police.

    Hello

Deployment of the ISE requires a lot of consideration in many aspects. Suggest you read the cisco documentation carefully to become familiar.

    http://www.Cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/TD/docs/solutions/enterprise/security/T...

Node ISE Cisco plays many roles; Admin, monitor & Service policy. The crux of the political service (PSN) is one who plays the role of RADIUS (RADIUS of tip to be precise) server to handle requests from the AAA.

For authentication dot1x internal hosts, you can have a PSN ISE in-house LAN (VLAN even as servers) or users. Whereas, for wireless clients, you can use a dedicated NHP or share the PSN according to safety requirements.

    See you soon,.

I have a Gateway LX6810 - 01 desktop runnning windows Vista Edition Albums Home Premium, 64 bit, 8 GB of RAM, all the latest updates and Service Pack 2. I connect to the internet through the network connection AT & T Uverse high-speed broadband (12gbps). He worked for over two years now with no problems until now. All of a sudden one day after I rebooted the machine there is no internet connection. When I went to the network and sharing Center, I receive a message that there is no installed network devices. SO, I went to the Device Manager window and there is no device listed network but when I opened the "hidden devices" he has been. (Why it is hidden I have not the slightest idea). SO, I went to the BIOS and checked for if ensure the LAN has been "activated" and it WAS.  I don't always get the same message "no network installed devices. SO then I went on the website gateway and downloaded the driver LAN for my machine and my LAN and reinstalled the driver... I ALWAYS get the same message and I still have no Internet connetion. WHAT could be the problem? Although I consider myself relatively smart, I'm NOT a computer guru, so be kind and state your suggestions in the jargon of the 'no' then I'll understand. Thanks for your help. I'm out of ideas.

    Hello

Thanks for posting the request in the Microsoft community!

I understand that you receive the error "no network listed device" on the Device Manager window and you don't have an Internet connection. We will try to solve this problem by following the suggestions.

    1. don't you make changes on the computer before the show?
    2. What is the exact error message that you receive when you try to connect to the Internet?
    3. what anti-virus software is installed on the computer?

To resolve the connection problem, try suggestions

    Method 1:
Try the steps in the link and check.
Windows wireless and wired network connection problems
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/help/wired-and-wireless-network-connection-problems-in-Windows

    Method 2:
Temporarily disable the antivirus and firewall installed on the computer and check.

    Enable or disable Windows Firewall
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/turn-Windows-Firewall-on-or-off

NOTE: turning off Windows Firewall may make your computer (and your network, if you have one) more vulnerable to damage caused by worms or hackers.
You can see the following link to disable the Antivirus installed on your computer software.

    Disable the anti-virus software
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/disable-antivirus-software

NOTE: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you need to disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network, while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks

    Method 3:
If the steps above do not help, you can reset the TCP/IP stack. To reset access the link below and either click on "Fix it for me" or follow the instructions to fix it yourself: http

    Method 4:

  • Moving from a static network to and auto IP network

I'm running Vista 64 home premium on my lap top. At my office, I have a router linksys running on a static IP address. At home, I use a router linksys on an IP to auto. Windows seems not to be able to tell the two apart, he still thinks it is the router to work and I have to go the IP4 setting and set it to automatic. When I go to the Office I have to go back for the IP4 setting and set it to static and re-enter-the all the info and safety. I'm at whits end with this and any help would be great.

I set up a network for each at each stop. Even if I select what I want, I still have to change the settings.

The office is secure and reception is open and those affecting must be changed also.

    Hello

Since you are using a single network adapter for the configuration of static and dynamic IP addresses, it is not possible to switch the IP addresses automatically on the same network adapter. However, you can use two network adapters and configure the static IP address on the an and a dynamic IP address on the other network card that should solve the problem.

Alternatively, you can also use a network Ethernet controller to configure the static IP address for the office and a wireless network adapter to configure the dynamic address access to the House.

Hope the helps of information. Please post back and we do know.

  • Virtual network and switch Option grayed out?

I have two hosts on my environment, clustered. Web client (using Vsphere 5.5), I choose a host-> manage-> virtual switches, but all the options are greyed out (add host network, refresh the network hosts, manage physical network cards, etc.). I go to another host and choose the same thing, and these options are available. I don't know why this is happening? I have googled around, but can't find anything useful.

You can do it in vSphere Client Host? Sometimes the Web client takes forever to load the icons change to the virtual switches.

Maybe you should give the vCenter, a little more RAM and the Java process Web client as well.

    Hello

I want to add a port group of VM for about 200 guests vSwitch. This can be done manually, but if anyone can help me to do it with the help of Powercli. We have guests organized on the basis of clusters.

    Virtual machine port group.

    Tag network:-XYZ

    VLAN ID: XYZ

    Thank you

You could do something like that

    $clusterName = "cluster"
    $pgName = "test2"
    $vlanId = "1111"
    $vSwName = "vSwitch1"

    Get-Cluster -Name $clusterName | Get-VMHost | Get-VirtualSwitch -Name $vSwName | New-VirtualPortGroup -Name $pgName -VLanId $vlanId

It will add the portgroup to the vSwitch on all hosts in the cluster

  • vSphere Console screen settings of network adapters

Hi, by ILO to the vSphere config screen one can configure the network adapters for network management, IP, DNS, etc hostname. It is very good for the initial installation.

After you add the vCenter Server network adapters are bound to a distributed switch. After that if an ILO is to vSphere config screen, once more parameters can be played, however maps / NETWORKS VLAN cannot be edited/seen that options are greyed out, while all others can be edited.

If he server is removed from the broadcast switch and disconnected from vCenter is no differencem, including a new start.

Why this happens, and what is the resolution for display network assigned to the network adapters?

    Thank you

A distributed switch is a construction of vCenter - make changes is therefore, outside of the authority of a single host. DCUI configuration settings are mainly there to get an operational host after installation, do not to make changes after that that he has been set up and added to vCenter.

If you choose the option 'restore a standard switch', it will demolish the host from the distributed switch and restore a standard switch of style "vSwitch0' with generic management options. You can then change settings again the DCUI. This is mainly used for troubleshooting.
