New Briefcase is a program from microsoft, I have windows 7 OS
I recently had an icon "New portfolio" appear on my desktop. I have windows 7 and when I right click the icon to get the properties of this program it does not say where. It is a Microsoft program? Thank you Ron Thomas
Hi Ron
If you right click on your desktop and place the cursor on the 'new' you should see "Briefcase" in the dropdown list... so, the answer to your question is Yes, and you may have inadvertently created one.

How to open. VMO files from the old program from Microsoft called makeover
Several years ago I purchace one program, I thought to be from Microsoft called makeover. It's where you took a picture of a person and with the program changed their hairstyle, color, features of the face. Found a disc I scored some photos of my kids we did together at a family event, and they are .vmo files and would like to know if there is a patch to open.
Hello
1. which version of the operating system are you using?
2. What is the full name of the software?
3 are those files that have been saved from another computer?
4. do you have the media to reinstall the software?
5. If you are unable to install the software, you can install in compatibility mode?
Check out the site mentioned below for instructions on how to install a program in compatibility mode.

Change the path to the updates from microsoft updates vs. windows
Fully updated, xp pro, ie8
When you click Start, all programs, windows update, go to the updates of microsoft with the compatibility view
which connection online for microsoft updates gets updates microsoft without compatibility view
can I change the path for my start, all programs, windows updates to be updated from microsoft without view compatibiliy?
Edit: have reinstalled os with a sp3 slipstreamed cd.
Edit2: no sites are not listed in my compatibility view settings.
There is no need to uninstall/reinstall MSE.
1. open IE (only!) to Microsoft Update . Click change settings in the left pane. Scroll to the bottom of the page. To stop using Microsoft Update. Disable the Microsoft Update software and let me use Windows Update only (check).
1B. Reboot for good measure.
2. your shortcut on the start menu should now be updated to Windows . [1] use it (not the Tools menu pull-down option) to go to http://update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate. Assuming that it does NOT open in compatibility mode...
3. "Flip" your source of default update appropriate Microsoft update by clicking on the option / link on the main page of Windows Update (IIRC).
3B. reboot for good measure & test to see if the Microsoft Update shortcut on your Start menu will however open IE8 in compatibility view.
PS: I don't have a WinXP box handy to test myself, but the last time I used the Microsoft Update shortcut on one of my client computers, it has not opened in compatibility view. As far as I know, MS may have changed something since then so YMMV.
=============================================================
[1] If you persevere with Windows Update as a source of update by default, MSE will always be 'auto-update' [even thought that Windows Update will offer more optional updates Defs] but will offer no updates to the ESM (e.g. new versions MSE) program or updates for MS Office, Silverlight, or Skype . -

received a call from a man who said he represents Microsoft windows and my computer was very damaged. He said hitting CTRL, microsoft windows and R key. I hang up. I guess it's a scam. What happens when you hit the keys?
Calls unrequested telephone of this nature are almost always a common scam. Do not let them give any info, do not give access to your PC, not give them all the money and do not go to all the websites that they suggest. One moment.

Microsoft issues never not solicited for phone calls of support or security.
These types of callers can use completely fictitious names or bogusly claim to be of real companies other than Microsoft as well.
